After installing the new Yosemite OS on my iMac I can no longer send email. I can receive email, but not send. I use gmail and can send email on the gmail (google) site, but not on "mail" on my iMac. Any others with this problem? What should we do?

My gmail, which is correctly configured for Mail with gmail SMTP and Google IMAP, works for awhile on Mail, which I leave open while working on other applications. But several times a day I get msg from Google: "We recently blocked a sign-in attempt to your Google Account" . . . and requiring me to verify my account details, re-enter passwords, confirm security settings (or change them from "disable" to "enable less secure methods" and so on). In Mail I also have tried "taking all accounts online", and re-entering my gmail password inside Mail account settings. These steps successfully re-set comms between gmail and Mail ... for awhile, then it happens again. Enough occurrences over a work day that I just quit Mail and revert to accessing gmail directly. Apple Care advisor and an Apple knowledge base article say that Apple can't deal with this, as gmail is third-party app, and they refer me to gmail, and so far I've found nothing helpful there.
From today I also have several instances of a window saying "Mail has unexpectedly closed" and asking me to Re-open it.
I also use Yahoo mail, which stops working with Mac Mail at the same time as gmail, but I do not receive notices to re-verify from Yahoo.
I recently upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite. The Mail problem happened occasionally with Mavericks but is far more frequent with Yosemite.

  • Using gmail with my iphone 4S (7.0.4) I accidentally selected "archive message".  I see no archive folder.  Where can I see/retrieve those emails?

Using gmail with my iphone 4S (7.0.4) I accidentally selected "archive message" for several emails.  I see no archive folder.  Where can I see/retrieve those archived emails?

Thank you!  However, those emails, along with all other mail is sent to the All Mail Folder and difficult to track or isolate.  Looking through hundreds of emails at a later time in All Mail to find what I mistakenly designated as archive is very cumbersome.  Why would the system designate an email as archived if it has no dedicated location?

  • Deleting Orange email settings from unlocked n85

Hi, I recently bought a n85 which was locked to the Orange network, i have had it unlocked and would like to remove the Orange email settings and replace them with t-mobile email settings, I have the web and walk service and would like to be able to use this too is this possible and if so I'd appreciate any help with this matter.
                                                                                  Jms71k

I had the same problem with an N85 that was unlocked but had Optus settings everywhere.  I set up new internet connections by going to Tools/Settings/Connection/Destinations.  Here you can go through and delete all the various access points linked to Orange (in my case Optus) and then add new ones.  When I started my new phone my provider (Telstra) automatically sent me messages with configuration settings that set up the access points for internet, multimedia and WAP.  I just had to move them to the appropriate location after deleting the Optus ones.  With email you should be able to set up your new email by clicking on Messaging and then go to the 4th item down, between My folders and Drafts, click on Options and then click on Settings.  Go to E-mail and click on Open which will then reveal Mailboxes at the top.  Click on Options and then Open.  Here it will probably show Orange.  Click on Options and here you can add a new mailbox and delete an existing one. Good luck.

Sometimes I don't receive a message in Mail (which uses gmail as my only email account) so I have to go to Gmail through Google to find it. This just started recently. Can this be fixed?

  • Please help with setting up native mail app using Gmail with alternate email address

I have an alternative email address setup such as [email protected] configured to use with my online Gmail account.  In the online account, I use the alternate email services smtp server so emails are sent correctly from that alias.
Is there a way to setup the native mail app to use Gmail for mail, contacts, and calendar and use an alternate email address as the sender?  Right now I am syncing contacts and the calendar through the native mail app and using the Gmail mail app for my email.  It allows you to select from all of the emails setup on the Gmail account.
But for simplicity sake, I would like to consolidate to the native email app for all of my accounts - I also have an Exchange based work account.
    Thank you for the help.

  • I can no longer use gmail with Firefox since it updated today.

This morning, Firefox had updates for version 3.6.6 and I did this and now gmail is not working. The page loads and I can see my mail, but I cannot open any of the messages or compose a message and I cannot even see the people on the chat feature (I think this feature didn't even load). Since I can use gmail fine on internet explorer and have checked with other people who say there is nothing wrong with gmail, I am assuming it is a problem with the updates to firefox. My yahoo account works in firefox, so I will give you that email to reply to me.

    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/4.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C)

Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 use a process called, "plugin-container.exe" which was using up most of my CPU when I opened up multiple tabs that contained Adobe Flash files, and caused Firefox to lock up.
My solution was to use Firefox 3.5.10 which you can get from the Mozilla website at [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html]
I am using Adobe Flash 10.1.53.64 without any problem in this version of Firefox. Check the release notes, I believe it contains all the latest security fixes in "Firefox 3.6.4".
Hopefully, they will fix Firefox 3.6 in the next version (e.g. Firefox 3.6.7), until then you should probably use "Firefox 3.5.10".

  • How to use gmail with JavaMail

JavaMail 1.4 is capable of sending and reading messages using gmail.
All that's required is to properly configure JavaMail. I'll
illustrate the proper configuration using the demo programs that
    come with JavaMail - msgshow.java and smtpsend.java.
Let's assume your gmail username is "[email protected]" and your
    password is "passwd".
To read mail from your gmail Inbox, invoke msgshow as follows:
java msgshow -D -T pop3s -H pop.gmail.com -U user -P passwdBy reading the msgshow.java source code, you can see how these
command line arguments are used in the JavaMail API. You should
first try using msgshow as shown above, and once that's working
move on to writing and configuring your own program to use gmail.
To send a message through gmail, invoke smtpsend as follows:
    java -Dmail.smtp.port=587 -Dmail.smtp.starttls.enable=true smtpsend
-d -M smtp.gmail.com -U user -P passwd -A [email protected](Note that I split the command over two lines for display, but you
should type it on one line.)
The smtpsend command will prompt for a subject and message body text.
End the message body with ^D on UNIX or ^Z on Windows.
Gmail requires the use of the STARTTLS command, and requires a
non-standard port, which the smtpsend program doesn't have command
line options to select so we set them as System properties on the
java command. The smtpsend.java program uses the System properties
when creating the JavaMail Session, so the properties set on the
command line will be available to the JavaMail Session.
Again, you can read the smtpsend.java source code to see how the
command line arguments are used in the JavaMail API. There is,
of course, more than one way to use the JavaMail API to accomplish
the same goal. This should help you understand the essential
configuration parameters necessary to use gmail.
And no, I won't send you an invitation to gmail. Sorry.

  • I'm using gmail and lately new emails are showing up in my drafts box.  How do I keep that from happening?

I'm using gmail on the latest version of OS X.  New emails keep showing up in my drafts mailbox along with my inbox.  How do I correct this?  Thanks for your help.

If it's incoming messages that you don't create, then check in Mail to make sure no rules are created to move messages to the draft folder.
Unchecking storing drafts messages on the server should tell you if the problem is originating from the computer. If it stops on the computer and still happens in the IMAP draft folder under the gmail folder (you can check the website also), then it will be a setting or filter action at the gmail website.
If messages still arrive in the draft folder (which will now be a local folder), then you will know that the computer is causing the problem. Then we can figure what's causing the problem.

  • Using Gmail with my old and trusted 8800

I have been using gmail for about 3 years, and I setup gmail to forward emails to my BB 8800, this has all been working fine for 2 years, in the last 3 or 4 weeks emails that I have been sending from my computer at home (using gmail ) have been sent to friends etc, and I also get a copy on my 8800
when somebody replies to my email, I see the message without any problems on my laptop when logged into my gmail account, but now when I look on my 8800, the message displays for 1 second and then disappears, if I press the BB button ( to the left of the trackball ) , and select from the menu "Get Plain Text" , BB displays the dialogue message "Receiving More" and the text comes back
surely I should not have to do this when using a gmail account
only emails that I have kicked off using gmail are affected, all other emails that I receive from other people are fine !
NB  I have plenty of "Free Space"   31559744 bytes
I have the latest software, I have security wiped the 8800 a number of times, I have removed the battery a number of times, all these things I have been told to do by my carrier "Orange UK" , all to no avail, so I have to resort to the internet, and boards like this
    any ideas most welcome
    Peter in London

    Hi Peter,
I'm a new blackberry user but I'm on gmail and luckily it's working fine for me on my 8800... Just a couple of suggestions for you...
    - Have you changed anything in your gmail account? I added IMAP configuration labs and it broke by whole set-up, I had to remove and add the account on the O2 email site again.
    - Are you importing any other accounts into your gmail? I was originally doing a full import into a new gmail account. While this was happening the connection between gmail and my blackberry service would completely break and I would get the "action required - your blackberry is not receiving email" message.
    - Have you thought about getting the gmail app running on the 8800? I'm not sure if there is enough memory on these little things for it, but it might solve the problem?
Good luck - hope you're able to get it running again.
    J

  • I want to set up firefox with 2 seperate home pages, using google with 2 different email addresses

I use igoogle, and I have 2 separete email addresses which I use for seperate reasons, as I will be setting up a web page using one of them. As to this I wondered if there was a way to set up having 2 shortcuts or 2 downloads of firefox with each one having a different homepage, but still using igoogle.
Do I need to download another copy of firefox and while setting it up, set it up with the different email address? Or is there another way of doing this? Or is it something that cannot be done?
