Using Grid Control for Bespoke Applications

Customer's primary application is in-house built. How can he integrate the Grid Control with it?

There is a link for the Extensibility Guide here:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oem/extensions/index.html
It describes what it takes to create a Management Plug-in (new target type) which can be integrated into the EM Console.

  • Can we schedule Loader Jobs (SQL Loader) using Grid Control  ?

Can we schedule SQL Loaders jobs/process using Grid Control for 11g database ?
    Or
Is it good to schedule it as external jobs using DBMS_SCHEDULER ?
OS is LINUX. Database is 11g R1 Grid Control will be the latest, I believe 10gR3.
Any other suggestions... (I know it can be done using OS utilities like cron and others but that is not an option for now.)
    Thanks in advance.

    Try this
-> Create a shell script to execute sqlldr
-> On Grid, create an "OS COMMAND" job and pass this script as parameters. You'll have options to schedule this job.
Let us know how it works.

    - Mehul

Let me explain to you about scheduler.
You can schedule a pl/sql stored procedure TEST_S as follows...
    Begin
    dbms_scheduler.create_job(
    job_name=>'MY_JOB',
    Job_Type=>'STORED_PROCEDURE',
    job_action=>'TEST_S',
    start_date=>sysdate,
    repeat_interval=>'freq=monthly;BYDAY=MON,TUE,WED,THU,FRI',
    end_date=>null');
    END;
You can also also execute o/s script like .bat or .sh. For this job type should be EXECUTABLE.
Example of converting a .sql script in .bat script...
    insert.sql
    insert into dept values(50,'IT','LONDON');
    exit
    insert.bat
    sqlplus scott/tiger @insert.sql
    Executing now...
    C:\Documents and Settings>insert.bat
    C:\Documents and Settings>sqlplus scott/tiger @insert.sql

  • Data Guard Summary problem using Grid Control.

I setup data guard using Grid Control and after completion, the console of the standby database shows: "Unable to determine Data Guard information." under the Data Guard Summary section. The primary database is not showing the standby. I'm using Red Hat Linux Server 5.7 (64bit) and Oracle 10.2.0.5. This is a standalone (no RAC or ASM involved). When I run show configuration, the following comes up:

Can you confirm that only archive sequence * 58673* is missing or any more? If you have less number of archives are missing then see how the parameters you configured. like FAL_SERVER, LOG_ARCHIVE_CONFIG, LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n so on.
Check below command and see any errors with remote destinations

If the archives are missing so many and you do not have backup, then certainly you have to choose incremental roll forward to synchronize the primary database, then only you can see the configuration status of Broker as valid. You can refer this article to perform incremental roll forward http://www.oracle-ckpt.com/rman-incremental-backups-to-roll-forward-a-physical-standby-database-2/

  • Performance reports using Grid Control

    Hello!
Can we create and schedule database performance reports using oracle 10g grid control?
    Thanks.

    Hi
Yeah its possible to generate the performance reports using Grid Control.
    Ex:
Oracle Enterprise Manager GRID Server contains built in reports to support Database Administrators to generate sightly reports.
First Thing is to click to "Reports" tab on the top, right hand side of the GRID Management Console (figure_grid_management_console). This page is where all the predefined and custom reports can be find. Now click on the "Create" Button on top of the page to create a new custom report. "Create Report Definition" page comes to the screen. There are four tabs for the definition of the report.

  • Grid Control for windows

    Hi Experts,
We're trying to download and install Oracle grid control for windows 64bit but we can't find any 64bit release!
Can we safely download and install Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release (11.1.0.1.0) - Windows 32bit from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/grid-control/downloads/index.html ? or should we be installing a different version??
Should Grid control be installed on the DB server in the 1st place or should it be installed on another server?
    Current Oracle Software: 11.2.0.1 64bit.
Server OS: Windows 2008 Server 64bit.
Can you kindly let us know.
    Thanks

We finally got our facts right..
The Grid Control Enterprise Manager comes only in 32 bits.. However the Grid Control agent that needs to be installed on the DB server comes in 32/64bits and is supported under different OS platforms.
Metalink (Doc ID 412431.1) shows the Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Certification Checker/matrix that we found extremely useful.
Enterprise Manager Grid Control comes with the basic features and is free to use. Any extra features are considered addons and do need to be properly licensed.

I have never gotten Grid Control and database control working for a single database. I have tried. Oracle dbca gives you a choice for Grid Control or database control but not both.
Right, because intuitively it doesn't make much sense (but, as i mentioned, my situation is a bit out of the norm).
But, would there be some sort of error message returned if you did go in and manually start EM? Have you tried to go in and manually start up the dbconsole when GRID control was already running?
I checked the port.ini file and it showed this:
Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (SAIN) = 5500
Enterprise Manager Agent Port (SAIN) = 1831
So it's recognized in that file. It seems odd that DBCA would bother to include that if you select instead Grid Control.
Regarding the additional overhead of running both, would it be a big deal to simply turn EM on when I want to use it, then to turn it off so as to eliminate the additional overhead??

  • Unable to connect to Database using Grid Control

    Hi,
I am attempting to connect to my Oracle Linux Machine which has 2 databases FROM my 10g Grid control which is on a Windows XP 32 bit.
Although I can login to the actual linux box with the host and database credentials ; I cant use the same to login to the database using Grid control.
I have tried testing the connection using Grid Control >> Preferences >> Preferred Credentials >> Host ; but its just not recognizing the credentials as correct.
When I attempt to startup the database using the host and DB credentials : ERROR MESSAGE : <servername> : <servername> comes up.
My agent on linux box is up. My Listener is running fine.
On my Grid control .. i have the DB, OMS, and Agent running as well.
Any inputs on this issue, I'd appreciate very much.

    Thanks for your reply.
Under Hosts on the Main Grid Console Home Page >> "server3.sam" Status shows UP. This server houses my 2 databases. But when I click on Databases >> it shows Instance DOWN.
    Status
    Failed
Details          Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
I have verified that my lsnrctl status is good on the linux box. My target agent is up and running on it as well.
    So I try to start the STARTUP button >> I enter the HOST Credentials of the Linux box and the Database credentials which I use "SYS" (in upper case - just in case that mattered) and choose SYSDBA ;
    Error Message
    server3.sam: server3.sam
I created a new dba account and try to login ... dont seem to work ; I tried using SYSTEM account and even altering my sys and system passwords .. all turn out negative.
And the ANSWER to your question ---> Grid Control >> Preferences >> Preferred Credentials >> Database Instance >> corresponding to my database name ; I enter my sysdba username / password AND the host username / password of my Linux box >> TEST >> which also turns out negative.
This entry is auto filled in since I "checked" the box "Save as Preferred Credential"; initially when I tried to start the DB using the STARTUP button.
By the way, my Win XP doesnt really have a password set under User accounts.
    Any suggestions please ?

  • How to configure EM Grid Control for more than one databases?

    Hi,
I'm configuring EM on Oracle 10gRel1 on Linux. I have more than one databases in the server, and I want use IE at my PC to monitor the databases on Linux server. I can configure and access the Grid Control Console by emca for first database, but cannot configure for the second one, unless I remove the first one configurration. How can I configure EM for more than one databases?
    Thanks.

    Thank you everybody.
Yes, I'm talking about DBConsole rather than Grid Control (sorry for misuse the term). I managed to set up DB Console for every DB in the same Linux box (10Rel1). What I did is:
    1) stop db console and agent with emctl
    2) remove repository with RepManager
    3) config with emca
Then I can monitor individual databases from my PC (but have to login with different port).
I'm thinking mybe I should use Grid Control instead.

  • Has anyone used Grid Control to implement DataGuard?

Has anyone used Grid Control to implement DataGuard?

    Hi,
You are right, without the B&K software there is not much I can load. However this is usefull information. The VIs that you have are a wraper for the calls to the ActiveX pulse control. If those VIs do not provide the functionality for the Intensity Module there are 2 options:
+The developer did not develop VIs for the module
+The Pulse ActiveX control does not exposes the functionality of the Intensity Module.
To find this out, you can create a new VI that opens a reference to the Pulse ActiveX object and start looking for some property that gives you a reference to the Sound Intensity Module, or a a function that allows you to run any methods from the module. There are a bunch of examples that ship with LabVIEW on calling Ac
    tiveX modules.
You can also try to get the documentation for the ActiveX interface for Pulse to find out whether the Module is exported or not.
There is also the option to use Native LabVIEW functions for the Sound Intensuty measurements; the Sound and Vibration Toolset can take sound intensity measurements that are compliant with industry standards.
Let me know how this goes.

  • Physical database creation using Grid Control fail

I have tried several times to create a physical standby using Grid Control. Everytime, the job failed at the step "DBClone -> Destination Preparation". The log file indicated the following error message:

  • Oracle Grid Control and Oracle Application Management Pack for Siebel

I am trying to get the Oracle Grid Control Software to work with the Siebel Application Management Pack so that I can effectively monitor Siebel. The client I am at does not have a budget for proper monitoring solution therefore, I have chosen the free alternative. Anyway, the Oracle 10G Agent is running on all the windows Siebel Servers and all of the Siebel Servers appear within the Oracle Grid Control management tool. At this time I am more interested in monitoring the Siebel metrics versus the windows metrics.. I have added Siebel as a Target Subtab within Oracle Grid Control. I have also successfully run through the Oracle Agent 10G SiebelClassPathfix.bat command on each Siebel Windows Server. What I am not able to do is add a Siebel Enterprise through the Oracle Grid Control Manager Software. When I attempt to add a Siebel Enterprise I receive the following error message. Any suggestions would be beneficial.
An error occured while adding Siebel Enterprise.

Please log a service request with tech support so that we can track this inquiry. On the service request, capture a screenshot of the page where you defined the host preferred credentials, and tell us the names of your servers.
Btw, I take that you are stuck in the step in which you:
    - Click the "Add Enterprise" button to add the enterprise
    - Fill in the 7 parameters
    - Click Ok to start the discovery process
Which release of Siebel and Enterprise Manager are you using?

  • How to use Source Code Control for Large Application?

    Hi, All!
I would like to collect knowledge about "best practice" examples for using Source Code Control and project organization for relative large application (let's say approx 1000 SubVIs).
    Tools used:
    LabVIEW 8.0
    CVS Server
    PushOK CVS Proxy Client
    WinCVS
With LabVIEW 8 we can organize large project pretty well. This described in article Managing Large Applications with the LabVIEW Project.
I have read this article too: Using Source Control Software with LabVIEW In this Article Source Safe used, but with PushOK all looks nearby the same and works (some tricks for compare function are required).
Example. Two developers working together on same project. Internally project is modular, so one developer will work with module "Analysis", and another one with "Configuration" without interferences. These modules placed into Subfolders as shown in example above.
    Scenario 1:
Developer A started with modification of module "Analysis". Some files checked out. He would like to add some SubVIs here. So, he must also perform check out for the project file (*.lvproj), otherwise he cannot add anything into project structure.
Developer B at the same time would like to add some new functions into module "Configuration". He also needed to check out project file, but this file already checked out by Developer A (and locked). So, he must wait until lvproj file will be checked in. Another way is mark *.lvproj files as text files in PushOK, but then one of developers will get conflict message by checking in and then merging will be necessary. This situation will coming very often, because in most cases *.lvproj file will be checked out all the time.
Question: Which practice is better for such situation? Is Libraries better than folder for large project?
    Scenario 2:
Developer C joined to the team. First, he must get complete project code for starting (or may be at least code of one Library, which assigned to him).
Question: How it can be done within LabVIEW IDE? Or WinCVS (or other SCC UI) should be used for initial checkout?
    Scenario 3:
Developer D is responcible for Build. Developers A,B,C have added lot of files into modules "Analysis", Configuration" and "FileIO". For building he need to get complete code. If our project splitted into folders, he should get latest *.lvproj first, then newly added SubVIs will appear in Project Explorer, then he should expand tree, select all SubVIs and get latest versions for all. If Project organized in Libraries, he must do the same for each library, isn't?.
Question: Is this "normal way", or WinCVS should be used for this way? In WinCVS its possible with two mouseclicks, but I prefer to get all code from CVS within LabVIEW IDE recursively...
That was a long post... So, if you already working with LabVIEW 8 with SCC used for large project, please post your knowledge here about project structure (Folders or Libraries) and best practices, its may be helpful and useful for all of us. Any examples/use cases/links etc are appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Andrey

    Regarding your scenarios:
    1. Using your example, let's say both developers checked out version 3
of the project file. Assuming that there are only files under the
directories in the example project, when Developer A checks in his
version of the project, there will be new files in one section of the
project separate from where Developer B is working. Developer B,
notices that there is now a version 4 of the project. He needs to
resolve the changes so will need to merge his changes to the latest
version of project file. Since the project file is a text file, that is
easy to do. Where an issue arrises is that after Developer B checks in
his merged changes, there is a revision 5. When Developer A and B go to
make another change, they get the latest version which will have the
merged changes to the project file but not the referenced files from
both Developer A and B. So when A opens version 5, he sees that he is
missing the files that B checked in and visa versa. Here is where the
developers will needs to manually use the source control client and,
external to LabVIEW, get those new files.
Where libraries help with the above scenario is that the library is a
separate file from the project so changes made to it outside of the
project do not require the project to be modified. So this time, the
developers are using a single project again which time time references
two libraries. The developers check out the libraries, make changes to
the libraries, and then check those changes in. So when each developer
opens the project file, since it references the project file, the
changes to the library will be reflected. There is still the issue of
the new files not automatically coming down when the latest version of
the library is obtained. Again, the developers will needs to manually
use the source control client and, external to LabVIEW, get those new
files. In general, you should take advantage of the the modularity that
    libraries provide.
    2. As noted in the above scenario, there is no intrinsic mechanism to
get all files referenced by a LabVIEW project. Files that are missing
will be noted. The developer will then have to use the source control
provider's IDE to get the initial contents of the project  (or library).
    3. See above scenarios.
