Using Guitar Rig

Think I found some limitations on using Guitar Rig with Mainstage. I have also posted this on NI's forums for some sort of resolution.
It appears, even though you can control just about every other parameter of GR in Mainstage, you are not able to assign a Mainstage controller to a GR controller. Therefore any mappings within GR you have assigned to a controller (i.e. effect on/off, parameter moifier, etc.), you can not set that controller to be set by Mainstage. Also, I see no way to change the GR patch directly within Mainstage as appears to be available on such things as the EXS.
Also, you are not able to set GR as a software instrument with the guitar input on the sidechain within Mainstage. You still can in Logic Pro, but it is not available in Mainstage. Perhaps this is why those patches and controller assignments can not be controlled?
Anyone have any idea how to get this functionality working in Mainstage?

  • Using Guitar Rig 4 / Amplitube 3 in Logic Pro

    Hi,
I'm using Guitar Rig 4 and Amplitube 3 as inserts in my Logic 9 projects and all is working fine.
However neither GR4 or A3 respond to MIDI cc changes from my Apogee GIO foot controller. I've been able to get both products to respond correctly to patch/stompbox changes on the Apogee GIO when used "stand alone".
It looks like when used as an "insert" the Apogee Gio MIDI cc info is not getting thru - When using Ampdesigner/Pedelboard (which I don't very often) the Apogee GIO MIDI cc functions correctly.
Is there a way of getting the MIDI CC messages thru to an insert?
    Thanks for you help

Insert them as "Midi controlled AU" Plugs into an instrument slot, there is an xtra folder for those Plug-Ins and many manufacturers supply these versions.

  • Using Guitar Rig 5 in MainStage

    Hello all!
I'm just getting started with MainStage, and so far quite liking the possibilities.
However, I've hit one thing which seems to be an issue for me, assuming I've understood it correctly. Each patch seems to have it's own channel strips, with it's own AU instruments etc... which to me seems a bad idea. Surely in this state, I will end up having hundreds of AUs running for the same software, which would slow things down?
On top of that, I'm running keyboard, guitar and vocal through Mainstage. All for me, as I switch what I'm doing depending on the song we're performing (and sometimes mid-song). However, this means I may sometimes want to change a guitar patch while keeping my keyboard the same, or vice versa.
So, to my question; is there a way to change AU presets without changing MainStage patch? I mainly need to do this with Guitar Rig 5 from NI, but I'd also quite like to do it with Massive and Reaktor too.
Not quite sure I've worded that very well, so an example:
I have a MainStage layout set up, which has my vocal going through clean with maybe some EQ etc. I've also got a guitar running through Guitar Rig 5, and my keyboard into Massive. During a song, I start off on keys playing Fat Bass 1 on my keys in Massive for the intro, switch to a distortion for the verse with my guitar, then Fat Bass 2 for the chorus in Massive. Maybe later I'll want a clean guitar in a bridge or something too, with some string hits thrown in from Massive again.
The way MainStage is set out currently, I'd need a patch for each combination, which would leave me with at least 3 "patches" for one song and three instances each of Massive and GR running. I'd much prefer to just send in a control message to change the presets in Massive and Guitar Rig.
    Running on a 2014 15" MacBook Pro, 2.2GHz i7/16GB RAM/256GB SSD.
    Thanks

I haven't been able to find a way to get it to work with Guitar Rig yet, but for Massive (and presumably Reaktor) I have found a solution. First, create an instance in MainStage, load it with Massive and load the presets you would like to use into Massive's preset bank. Turn it on so that it will respond to patch changes.
Navigate to the 'Assignments & Mappings' tab of the edit page. Find the device you want to use to send the MIDI CC messages. If it isn't in the list, click on 'New Assignment', which usually creates an Unmapped assignment in the 'All Devices' list. Click the area where it says No Assignment to bring up the Hardware Input popup menu. Choose your device, assign channel to 1-16, and change Type to absolute. From the number menu, choose the CC number you want to send the patch change. Set MIDI thru to Automatic. Name the input to something like CC to PG01.
Click on it to highlight the mapping info. In the far left side of the Control Inspector, you'll see a list of items such as Same as Input, Block, etc. You will also see the name of the instance containing Massive. Select it to bring up a list of control parameters, such as Volume, Mute, etc. From the list, choose MIDI Controller. The third item down in that menu is Program Change. Select it.
You'll see the Parameter values for Program Change. For saved value, select the Program Change number you want to send. Number scheme is 0-127. Now, here's the tricky part that nearly drove me mad before figuring it out. For NI instruments, one of the Range Max or Min numbers must be set to zero and the other to a non zero number. If you want to select PG 0, set saved value as 0, range max as 1 and range min at 0. For any other patch number, set saved value and range max to the same number and set range min to 0.
Also, make sure that the device thats sending your CC control message is configured as a toggle switch, not a momentary, or else it will send the range min program change number when you lift your foot or finger from the button. If you want to send multiple patch changes, add more mappings and assign different CC numbers to select the patch number you desire.
An additional benefit is that you can load up a single instance of Massive with as many presets as it can hold and use aliases of that instance for other songs. In this case you would create a new MainStage patch and populate it with an alias of your Massive instance. Set up a separate hardware input (I use logic remote) and rather than setting the number to a CC controller, set it to Any. By entering the same NI mapping parameters as above, it will send the correct PG info to Massive when you select the MainStage patch containing the alias. If you need to select multiple Massive patches from the new MainStage patch, simply assign the CC controllers to select new patch assignments. All that info is freely assignable and saved on a per MainStage patch basis, so your first instance could select the patch (say 0) and use three CC controllers to set patches 1-3. On the next MainStage patch containing the Massive alias, you could set the PG to select patch 4 and those same controllers can be set to select patches 5-7.

  • How to use guitar rig 3 in logic

    Hi everyone
I am trying guitar rig 3 demo, and one of the features is the capabilities to open the app in logic or garageband and use all the features directly while composing music in Logic.
question: how do you load it? i am used to cubase VST and VST and DX plugins, so i am not really sure how a Mac works.
    Thanks!

is my question too dumb to get an answer? wow...would never expect to see no replies for a question like that

  • GarageBand stops recording immediately when using Guitar Rig Session

When I try to record a guitar into GarageBand using my Guitar Rig Session the recording starts, then immediately stops. This happens on a new track, or on an existing track. Everything was fine before I updated GarageBand to the latest version (6.0.4) via the App Store. I also updated to OSX 10.6.8 too. I've tried recording a track in Reaper and it works fine so I doubt it's a Guitar Rig/OSX 10.6.8 issue so I'm suspecting that it's the latest GarageBand version that's to blame. This discussion was the closest thing I could find to raise a support ticket about this. I'll have to switch to Reaper for now but if it's not fixed soon, I may not come back to GarageBand!

Native Instruments say they'll have a fix to make their software work in Lion in September. From what I've heard it only affects them running in 64 bit mode so try Guitar Rig in 32 bit mode if you can. I've switched to Reaper like I said and I'm finding the transition quite easy. Give their demo a try...

  • Anyone using Guitar Rig 2 in Logic?

I'm having trouble getting GR 2 to work in logic. It works fine as a stand alone but does not work in logic! If anyone can advise me on what I might do to rectify this problem I could sure use it. It's holding up a studio project and I'm not getting much help from Native Instruments support.

Hmmm, I dunno-the concensus in the NI GR forum is the
same? Is it just the driver that's bad or did the
    patch fix it?
    Hi Justin,
May be you could give me a blow by blow discription of how to make this piece of S**t work. I am still getting no input into logic, I can hear the metronome but no imput from the strat at all.
    Here's what I'm using:
    G5 duel 2 gig processor
    Dididesign 192 digital interface
    Mackie digital console DXB 200
the AU version of guitar rig 2 loaded
    logic version 7.1.1
OPEN AUDIO CHANNEL - load plug-in guitar rig
I have tried..... out of the guitar into pedal board, then out of the pedal board into the Console - NOTHING
Out of the guitar straight into the console - NOTHING
It does work as a stand alone through the console but so does everything else except guitar rig, but not in Logic!
Here's the really wierd part you can hear the metronome when the audio channel is armed and record is going - Still no guitar input at all.
Am I just doing something stupid? is the AU version not working? Do I need to load the VST? and help from you is always Greatly Appreciated, this is killing me time wise.
    Thanks again guys,

  • Can I use Guitar Rig 4 Sessions I/O with Adobe Audition CC? Thanks, Al :)

    Hey,
I only need Guitar Rig to power my microphone because it requires phantom power. I've never actually been able to use the effects available on Guitar Rig because I always found it too confusing and never understood how to, so I'm not bothered about using the effects. I've changed the preference settings, but it just won't let me record in a multitrack session. It records on a single track (before you start a new multitrack session), however, it will not let me play it back. I've tried different preference settings, but nothing works! I tried to attach screenshots to show my preferences, but it wouldn't work :/
I would really appreciate it if you could help me!
    Thank you,
    Alexis

    Hi
    Yes... absolutely:
1st you need to download the Controller Editor from NI, then you need to configure the RK to work in "MIDI Mode". Assign the switches & pedal(s) to whatever CC's you wish.
Then, in Mainstage, create the screen controls and MIDI Learn them.
You may need the latest RK drivers too.

  • Using guitar rig in logic -9 but not getting same sound....

    Hey fellow logic users
Ok heres the problem ( cut to the chase )  I am hooking up my guitar directly to the audio box direct to input 1  I have guitar rig in my  plug in section now when i play the song and want to play along It comes out clean, but when i press record enable it plays like the guitar rig sample i created  then when i press the space bar to start playback to practice it  it plays clean but then whe i record it  comes out slightly not the way it sounds when not recording  I hope this is understandable  lol : )   what do I need to do to make what I sound like in the guitar rig while rehearshing it so it comes out the same and not clean.  I put the playback knob on my audio box in the middle so i can hear the drums bass e.t.c  aong with the guitar but still no dirty sound during rhearsal before recording      Thanks

Check under the audio menu options that "auto input monitor" or something like that, is enabled.

  • Guitar Rig 2.2 as a plug in?

Does Garageband support plugins? If so, does anyone know if it will support Guitar Rig 2.2 and if so how do I make this happen?

GarageBand will load any standard AudioUnit plugin. Guitar Rig 2.2 has an Audio Unit version which works perfectly (I tried it, it's awesome). To use Guitar Rig, double-click a track to bring up the info pane, then click "details", then select Guitar Rig in the plug-ins list. Done! In fact, you can use Guitar Rig on multiple tracks in GB which is awesome.

  • MainStage patches not loading Guitar Rig 4 patches

I'm trying to use Guitar Rig 4 as a channel strip plugin for live EG performance. Unfortunately Mainstage seems unable to properly recall assigned Guitar Rig patches and/or recall screen mapping for those patches. It seems like it only loads the first GR4 patch. If I open up the plugin I see the correct GR4 plugin name but when I double click it seems to then load.
I've mapped screen controls to specific editable functions within Guitar Rig 4's patch. Unfortunately after reboot Mainstage patches do not properly load Guitar Rig patches and screen control mapping breaks.
For instance within a specific Mainstage patch, I have a Guitar Rig 4 patch that has a stereo delay. I screen map to the stereo delay's controllable functions (mix, feedback, etc). I test it out and everything works properly. I save. I restart and then the screen controls lose their mappings.
So what's up? Is it a user error or a limitation between the two softwares?
    Andy

    Hi again,
OK so to map a MS toggle switch to activate an event in a Plug-in like Guitar Rig 4?
    - You have Pedalboard as an insert in the channel strip?
    - You have Guitar Rig as an insert in the channel strip?
    - if so
    - selecect the unassigned button in Manstage edit mode
    -  MS will open the screen control inspector panel below the edit view of your MS edit window
    - In the third tab 'unassined' of the inspector you sohould see columns make sure you're looking at the left most col
    - You will find the name of the channel strip (guitar-1) or something like that - select it
    - The next col will fill with info on the channel strip including the inserts - select Guitar Rig 4- The next col will fill with all the attributes of the Guitar Rig patch you've selected as an insert
    - The list will contain all the controllable attrubutes of the componants that mack up the guitar rig patch.
    - Select the WAH/ON/OFF or what have you.
    - Now the switch in MS will control the ON/OFF state of the WAH efect in that Guitar Rig patch.
The same process works for rotary knobs so you can have MS contol the ON/OFF function and allow you to adjust say the Gain and Tone of your choosen Guitar Rig effect. Obviously you can use for Amps/effects/Cabs/and even Tapdeck etc.
Once you have a channel strip set up and your happy with the layout of MS you can save the channel strip and use it in Logic and vise versa - so I have started a library when my guitar and bass patches are channel strips.
This is because I mix up componants of the various Plig-ins I have say - Pedelboard => Ampdesigner => Guitar Rig 4 => Amplitube 3 => and Redwirez as a single 'patch'. So playing live I use the appropriate 'patch' strip in MS and when recording the I use same 'patch' strip in Logic.
    Have fun!

  • Guitar Rig, MBox interface with Logic

I am using Guitar Rig with their foot pedal as input for my Guitar. I want to use my MBox for output control because the foot pedal only has a volume control which has to be manually manipulated and is inconvient to get at. I can see output in the Logic panel but get no sound. I was told I need to use a "bus" to interface with the MBox. I am a neophyte and really could use some help.

It's actually best in my experience to just forget abou the RigKontrol. GR runs fairly solid until then.

  • Guitar rig sounds different

    Hello,
I recently bought the new Mbpr witht he newest software. Now the problem is that the quality of the sound when recording in garageband is alot worse than it used to be. I use guitar rig 5 with it and I have it set up correctly to the track but even though I am using the same exact sound from the rig, it sounds pretty plain and dull and lacks lower EQ on garageband compared to standalone, where it sounds great. I also didin't have this problem with the earlier version of garageband. I couldn't hear difference in that version of garageband and standalone. I have turned off all the EQs and stuff but no help there. Is there any way to make sure garageband has no effect on my input from the guitar rig or is there nothing I can do? Also is it possible to get the eralier version of garageband? Id like to get back to recording so any info on this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Are you using Guitar Rig AU plugin?
Have you tried different master track presets?

  • Guitar Rig & Studio Devil not showing up in GB '09

I have been using Guitar Rig and Studio Devil in GB for a couple of years now. Since upgrading to GB '09 these do not show up in GB at all. I can use Guitar Rig as a stand-alone app without a problem. I just can't access the AU plugin from within GB. Anyone else having this problem?

Never mind. I found the answer here. The interface has changed quite a bit so it took some diggin'.

  • Guitar Rig 5 MIDI controls won't stay mapped in Mainstage 2

I am using Guitar Rig 5 as a plug-in in Mainstage 2 for a few of it's effects.  I am trying to map controls (like on/off) for those effects in Mainstage's mapping section.  Everything works fine until I close mainstage.  When I go to reopen my saved concert, the mapped controls are gone and I have to remap them.  Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it?  It is very frustrating.  Thanks in advance.

Ok i had a bit more of a play and here's what mines doing
If I have a concert with only 1 patch Everything but the on/off buttons stay mapped (as above mentioned)
however if I duplicate ) the 1st patch (highlight patch 1 and command +D) and re-map the on/off switches and have either the 1st patch or the 2nd patch highlighted when I save, then both patches stay mapped opon re opening the concert.
So for me by simply having more than 1 patch in my concert the bug dissapears
Strange but for now its doiing the trick

  • Why wont logic "recognise" Guitar rig 3 when tracking?!?!?

Im trying to track some guitars. I have a copy of guitar rig 3 & a line 6 ux1. I normally use Gearbox (the line 6 program) for my guitar sounds but today try to use guitar rig. Logic doesnt "hear" the sound from the program itself, it only hears the plain electric guitar. Because i normally use gearbox, im not sure what im "doing wrong"....

A loaded insert plugin doesn't record with the signal, it only *plays back* or monitors (only with SWM on) with it.
If you want to record the effected signal, you'll have to use a standalone AU plugin host with the desired AU loaded, and make that the input source for an audio track in Logic.
I am not completely sure I understood your problem, so let me know if it helped.
    regards, Erik.
