Using Handbrake to burn DVD movie to iTunes to sync to iTouch

What steps do you take to burn a DVD movie to iMac iTunes so you can sync it when iTouch is hooked to it?

Burning is creating a CD/DVD as when you burn the disc with the laser.
RIP is getting the stuff off a CD/DVD.
It is illegal to RIP DVDs to your computer (even if you purchased the DVD), therefore cannot be discussed in these forums.

Does anyone know how to import or copy my DVD movies to itunes? I am trying to import or copy them into itunes so I can watch them on my apple tv?

Sorry we cannot discuss DVD ripping as it is explicitly forbidden in the [TOU 2.8.2|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa#terms]

  • Burning DVD's into itunes?

Can you burn DVD's into iTunes and if so how do I go about doing this?
    Thanks

I'm assuming you mean "rip" (which generally refers to taking content off of a CD/DVD and putting it on a hard drive) not "burn" (generally taken to mean putting info from a hard drive onto a CD/DVD). If you are asking about commercial DVDs, sadly, we can't help you. Commercial DVDs are encrypted. In the U.S. breaking that encryption is illegal and we are prohibited by the terms of use of these forums from discussing software or methods. Sorry.

  • How do I get DVD movies into iTunes (and thus my iPad)?

I have a pc with Windows XP. How do I import my DVD movies into iTunes? Do I need to buy additional software? Or is my best bet joining netflix?
    Thanks!

you can copy them for your own use.
Copying is not the issue. Breaking the encryption is.
But it's kind of a catch 22 in that you cannot copy a DVD unless you break the encryption.
    in Europe it is not
    Europe is not one country.
Most European countries have their own equivalent of the DMCA and it is illegal to break the encryption in some of these countries.

  • DVD movies to ITunes ?

    Hi guys
I wasn't able to find this answer...so here it goes...
Is there a way to get your own DVD movies onto ITunes so that you can load those movies on your IPod?

Your own unencrypted disks from iDVD for example, can be converted with a number of legal applications such as Videora or iSquint. Protected files cannot. The fastest way on a mac is with Elgato's Turbo.264 USB device which offloads the H.264 encoding to the device and is a lot faster like 4X the speed (note ADS makes/sells one that looks identical so there may be a Windows version out there). However the above applications and device will not work with commercial DVD's at all.

  • How to burn bought movies from iTunes to DVD's?

I am wondering if I buy a movie on iTunes could I burn it on a DVD to watch on my DVD player? Do I have to use iMovie?

The content owners are very strict on multi format copying of movies (unlike CDs)  If you want it on DVD you have to buy it again on DVD.  Of course you could just buy it on DVD and stick it in your computer -- except Apple seems to be phasing out including optical drives on its computers since you can, after all, buy the movie on the iTunes Store and if you want to see it on your TV you can also go out and buy an Apple TV so you play your Apple purchased movie on your Apple purchased Apple TV...
One thing to do is just get movies on DVD and check if there is a digital download option where you can also download a version for your computer.

  • I have copied movies using Handbrake and put them in to iTunes. The sound level is fine in iTunes. Is it likely to be as loud on the iPad?

I ask this because the volume levels of movies is notoriously low and I really want to use the iPad to watch movies. Other folks' experiences would be helpful.

Ah. ... I don't get my first iPad until Fri 16th (I hope).

  • Problem Using iDVD to burn a movie

Hi, I'm very new to Mac world and trying to learn.
Recently when I tried to use my iDVD to burn DVD, I faced a problem where even the Mac Support centre fail to help me.
I have a movie files and individual is about 420M in DiVX format. When I import into the iDVD, by right a DVD should be able to accomodate up to 5 or 6 movie. However, when I import the 3rd movie file, the iDVD told me I already exit a DVD capacity of 4.7G.
Can any expert can help me to resolve this issue so that I can burn my movie in DVD using the iDVD?
    thanks for the advise.

    Hi
    1. To me DivX is a stranged format. I use only streamingDV QT.mov files as in iMovie
I drop the movie project icon into iDVD.
I would convert them to this.
    2. iDVD doesn't care about Mb or Gbs on file size - only minutes in total including menu.
If it exceeds 60 or 120 minutes dep on quality encoding seleected there are problems.
One can easily make a 100Mb file that lasts >>2h and a 50Gb that is a 30 min movie.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Is there any way to import my OWN DVD movies into iTunes and my video iPod?

I just purchased the new 30 GB video iPod last week, and although I have already purchased a few movies from the iTunes store, I wanted to know if there was a way to import a DVD movie from my own DVD library like we can with our own music CDs?
    Thanks,

"That's too bad, because these are movies (DVDs) that I own and have purchased legally myself. How is that different from importing your own purchased CDs into iTunes? Seems like a double standard to me."
About "legally owning" the DVDs - Yes, I understand, and I'm figuring that most folks who want to put their DVDs onto their iPod are owning the movies legally (or, at least, it appears so).
That's not really the issue here, though.
The problem is, there is an encryption that is written onto regular, copyrighted DVDs (i.e., movies). In order to get that onto your iPod, you will have to use software on your computer that breaks that encryption, and makes the file into some more "normal" format, like say, MP4.
This action can arguably be considered as illegal, in a sense, since you are removing the encryption that's on DVD, which is protecting it from being easily copied, and transferred around. (which would be illegal).
This is a bit different than CDs, since, although they are copyrighted too, the songs are usually not in a protected format.
If you have a song that you've purchased from the iTunes Store, and you want to break into that "protected" file format, that's the same kind of issue as the DVD ripping.
(Notice that the Hosts included that into the ADUA as well, right along with DVD ripping.)
...It's quite an interesting kind of subject, isn't it?

  • Exporting MiniDV (SD) Projects to hard drive from iMOVIE & then use them to burn DVDs

I am trying to export all my MiniDv files I have already uploaded to iMovie creating multiple projects. I wanted to export the best quality movie possible that is also great for burning DVDs. I have been using h.264, but haven't much success. Should I be using mpeg4 (h.264) or Quicktime (h.264)?  Also, the bite rates have been throwing me off as well. I have tried 5000 kbits/sec and that was so so. I went down from there to 3000 to 2000 and it got worse. I am currently trying out 20,000 kbits/sec as we speak. I also selected CD/DVD-RAM in the export settings over Download & Stream. Not sure if that makes much of a difference?
Most of the MiniDV tapes are standard SD (4:3), but a few are SD wide screen.
I would love to get a master setting to use, so I am not worrying if the quility of the export will come out ok!
I have 50, so time is an essence. This can take me a long time to get through all the tapes.
**** I am NOT using these export files to edit. Just to view
    Thanks,
    Jason

Just to be clear on this.(Yes I know that AppleMan has already asked this question above)
Are you just wanting to transfer what is on your Tape onto DVD without adding any Titles, transitions etc etc?
In other words when you watch the DVD you want it to be identical to watching the MiniDV tape with nothing added or removed or adjusted ?
If this IS the case then try this.
Via Finder navigate to the required iMovie Event Folder.
In this folder you should see either --- " iMovie Movie Cache"  OR " iMovie Cache"  OR  both.
Now in these folders you should see " Cache - 25 .mov " or  " Cache.mov " respectively.
Open iDVD and drag either one of these in.
If you want to put more than one Event on the DVD then drag the other Cache-25.mov or Cache.mov from the other Events in.
Select in iDVD Preferences  > Projects > Encoding = Professional Quality for up to 2 hours video including menu on single sided .
This will be much better than exporting to h.264 and quicker.
Also I don't think that the Single Field Processing "debate " comes into this workflow, could be wrong????

  • Why I can't use a projector with rented movies from ITunes

I rented a movie from ITunes, I downloaded to my Ipad and I tried to watch it in my projector, the communication with the projector is good, but when the movie start my IPad says that the display that I am using is not a supported display for protected material, but with Netflix it works perfectly. Can someone help me out here?

By default Apple does not allow you to project or put any rented material on "external" devices i.e screens or projectors

They must be in mp4 format. With quicktime pro, you can convert videos to the file type that itunes will recognize and that will play on the video ipod...
Or you can download this free converter...
