Using hanns-g display as main display instead of macbook

I just recently recieved a 19" Hanns-G monitor for Christmas and since it is way bigger than my 13" macbook screen I was wondering if I could make it the main monitor and the macbooks built in one secondary. Post if you know how to do this thanks

Hey,
Sorry for the misunderstanding. Give this a try:
Go to System Preferences> Display> and then follow the instuctions below:
"Choose the Primary Display
You can make the second display into your primary display if you want. Your primary display is the one on which your menu bar, Dock, Desktop icons, and any dialog boxes or messages appear. To select which display is the primary one, drag the white bar at the top of the rectangle representing the current primary display onto the other display. When you release the mouse button, the displays rearrange themselves accordingly."

How do I use an external display with a macbook pro?

Just buy the proper adapter cord, such as MiniDisplay port to HDMI for example.  Plug it in and it will be automatically recognized.  Use System Preferences > Displays to set options.
The display can Mirror your primary desktop or Extend the Desktop.

  • Using an external display with the macbook air

hi, i wanna know if i can use an external display with the macbook air as the tunderbolt is a bit pricey? i was thinking about buyin a LCD moniter wih a VGA port. many thanks

Yes.  You can use VGA DVI or HDMI monitors by buying a  Minidisplay port to xxx adapter and the the appropriate cable (vga, dvi or hdmi).
The MiniDisplayport adapter plugs into the Thunderbolt port.

  • How to use the cinema display while your Macbook is closed

How do I use the cinema display while my Macbook is closed? Whenever I close the laptop the display shuts off as well. I really don't need them both to be on. That defeats the purpose of the external display. when I am home I want to use the laptop like it is the desktop computer.

I am using a MB Pro and a 23" cinema display. Have a wired USB keyboard and a USB wireless mouse connected through the keyboard. When the MBP is closed and when I restart it, the wireless mouse is frozen and the keyboard does not respond. I have to reopen the MBP, use the trackpad mouse, restart again and hope it will work closed. There doesn't seem to be a consistent way to make it work.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks.

I am using duel thunderbolt displays with a MacBook Pro. I only have the option to have sound come from one or the other. Has anyone thought of making the left channel come from both speakers on the left Monitor and the same of the right? If yes, how is that done? The MacBook Pro could even be a center channel if configured in that order.

  • Can you use any external display with a macbook?

    hi all,
I was just wondering, can you use any external display with a macbook? (i.e. gateway, and dell displays?)

    To original poster:
    Yes.
Provided you have the appropriate ports and cables, that is. Some monitors do not have all vga, dvi-i, dvi-d, hdmi, etc. ports, and it can be misleading that all those technologies appear to be compatible via conversion cables (they aren't all meant to be compatible, so look it up on the internet before buying).
    Cheers,

  • How do I use my Studio Display with my macbook while closed?

Just wondering if its possible to use my stuidio dispaly and an external keyboard & mouse while my macbook is closed, and if so how do I do that?

In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131  When you disconnect from the monitor your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

  • Will using a 30" display harm the MacBook Air?

I know it will not run it at it's 2560x1600 resolution, but will it do the MacBook Air any harm to have it connected to a 30" display and set the settings to mirror? I have tested this and know it works and the picture quality on my 30" is fine for the intended use.
(I am looking to use this set up as a looping iPhoto slideshow at wedding receptions.)
    Thank You.

I had mine running on a friends 52" LCD TV, using the DVI connector. It worked fine, and we were impressed with the results.

  • Can the new iMac be used as a display for a Macbook?

I have a Macbook Pro with Retina Display and I wanted to know if the new iMacs which were announced yesterday will allow me to connect my Macbook to it and use it as a display.
I know the new iMacs are not retina displays but it would be great to have additional monitor space.
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, via Target Display Mode.

The keyboard brightness controlls of the iMac do not work. The keyboard brightness controlls of the MacBook only controll the MacBook. Same goes for the display set up of the MacBook, I can change the MacBooks brightness there but not the one of the secondary screen.

  • HT5219 What specific adapter to I need to use my Thunderbold display with my MacBook Pro (mid 2010), running OS X 10.8.1??

Do I have to install any additional software?

Exactly what do you want to connect?  If it is a TV, then a minidisplay port HDMI cable is called for.  It would be something on the order of this (assuming you have a fairly new TV).
