Using home sharing between pc and iphone

I have enable home sharing and the option does not show up on the right side of itunes. how can i get this to show and also transfer music from my pc to my iphone wirelessly.  Thanks.

When you turn on Home Sharing on your PC you will only see the Sharing option in the sidebar if other computers on your network also have iTunes running with Home Sharing turned on as well.
As for how to get it to work on your iPhone go into Settings on your iPhone and scroll down to Music. Tap on the Music settings button. On the Music screen, in the Home Sharing section enter the Apple ID and password that you use on your PC.
Now go back to your Home screen. Launch the Music app. Tab on the More button on the bottom of the screen. On the More screen tap on the Shared button. You should see a list of all available shared iTunes libraries on your network. Make sure iTunes is running on on your PC with home Sharing turned on. You should now see all the music on your PC's shared library. You will not however be able to wirelessly transfer the music from the shared library to your iPhone. You will only be able to play it.

  • ITunes 9 - Using 'Home Sharing' between Windows and Mac libraries

I have my main iTunes music library stored on my Windows 7 PC. It is currently around 200Gb in size, so pretty large.
I want to be able to use 'Home Sharing' in iTunes 9 to access this library on my Macbook over my home wireless network.
I don't, however, want to copy the music files themselves over to this laptop, but simply access the library over the network, and play them via either iTunes 9 or Front Row.
I would appear that the Windows and Mac 'iTunes Library' xml files are incompatible. I can't 'Alias' the Windows library on the MacBook for this reason. Does 'Home Sharing' eliminate this problem? Is there a way of accessing the library on the Windows PC without copying all of the files over to the MacBook?
I want to maintain a single library (which is often changing with new podcasts etc), rather than 2 libraries which I have to keep in sync.
Does anybody have any ideas on this one? I'm sure I am not alone in having this problem.
    Here's hoping...:)

  • Can I use home sharing between my iPhone and iPad? Or do I need to use a computer?

I want to use home sharing between my iPhone and Ipad. So I can use the remote app. But I can't get it to work

You can use it to share the library on your computer to the iPad, not the other way around.
On the computer, set up homesharing in the advanced menu. On the iPad go to settings > music.

  • How can I use home sharing between our iphones (create playlists from both accounts at once)

How can I use home sharing between our iphones, so that we can create playlists with songs from both of our libraries?  We share a Macbook Pro (separate accounts) and each have the new iphone, but when I have my iphone and try to create a new playlist, I can only grab songs from one account.  Is there a way to create a playlist using both accounts since we are sharing?
Does it have to be created within iTunes first on our Mac?

The short answer: because Home Sharing isn't designed for sharing apps, and apps aren't designed to be shared.
The longer answer:  Think of it like this...
You download some music in iTunes.  With Home Sharing, another user can listen to it by streaming it over the network.  But the data itself is on your computer.  If you turn off the computer or take it off the network, the other user can't access it.
But if you send another user the app, they aren't just streaming the data- they installed it on their iOS device.  Because they weren't the one that purchased it, such a transfer could easily be considered "piracy" or "stealing," and nobody likes that (least of all, Apple).
When iTunes sees this app, it obviously recognized it, as if saying, "Hey, how did you get this app on your device, if I have no record of you purchasing/downloading it from the iTunes store?"

  • TS2972 is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?

My wife and I have itunes accounts and want to be able to share music we have each bought on our accounts. We have tried setting up the home sharing on our PC but it doesn't show up on the screen. Can anyone please help?

"Is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?"
No. Home sharing is used to connect two running instances of iTunes across a network. When you switch users on the computer all applications running on the other profile are suspended.
You can however share your respective media folders so that they are visible in either profile and then copy over any content that you want, or you could create a single joint library which you use when either user is logged in.

  • Can i use home sharing if me and my wife have different apple ID accounts?

can i use home sharing if me and my wife have different apple ID accounts?

    Yes.
You need to sign into home sharing using ONE Apple ID. So either pick yours or hers, use the same one for home sharing on the computers. Once they are signed in on both Macs you can access media that the other user purchased.
Click the 'Shared House' for her library (if you have the sidebar enabled) when you are in your iTunes to access her media & vice versa, both iTunes needs to be running & awake.

  • How do I use home sharing between my home computer and my work computer so I can listen to the same music both places?

Hello. I am trying to use my work computer with itunes to listen my my music on my itunes on my computer at home. I have signed into both. My computer at home is off, is there a way to listen to all my music on both computers by using Home Sharing or another means?

The best way I know is to sign up for iTunes Match.  All your music is stored in the cloud and can be accessed by up to 10 devices.

  • How do I use home sharing between 2 PCs to transfer my itunes library music?

I have turned on homesharing on both my old and new computer but it won't transfer the music i have uploaded and downloaded to my new computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hey Louisebun,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines the steps of moving music to a new computer using Home Sharing. It is good to note that this option allows you to share music between multiple computers if you continue to use both, but it doesn't create a lasting backup. To create a lasting backup, use an external drive or CDs or DVDs.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
I've highlighted some of the key steps below:
    On your new computer:
    7. Click the Store menu and choose Authorize computer. Enter your Apple ID and password (that was listed in the Advanced menu in step three or used in step 5).
    8. Choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
    9. Select the Home Sharing icon on the left side of iTunes.
Note: Once Home Sharing is enabled, the Home Sharing option disappears from the left side of iTunes until a Home Share library is found from another computer.
    10. Once your new computer sees the Home Share from your old computer, click that Home Share on the left side of iTunes on your new computer.
    11. Select the content in the Home Share that you want to transfer to your iTunes library on your new computer, or choose Edit > Select All to choose all of it. Then, click the Import button in the bottom-right corner of iTunes.
    12. Wait for the content to finish transferring.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Home Sharing between Mac and PC

So I have Home Sharing enabled on both my Mac and PC, and signed into both with the same apple ID.
From my pc, i have installed the latest version of Itunes, and on my mac I have the latest version of Itunes.
I can access my library on my mac from the PC, but I cannot see any of the things located below.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password.Note: Be sure to use the same Apple ID when enabling Home Sharing on all computers you intend to share with.
    Click Turn On Home Sharing.
Use the above steps to enable Home Sharing on additional computers on your home network.
    Setting up Automatic Transfer
Automatic Transfer can transfer your newly-purchased apps, books, music, TV shows, and movie purchases to your other computers set up for Home Sharing. To automatically transfer content between computers, click the Settings button in the lower-right while viewing a Home Share and select which content to transfer. Automatic transfer of iTunes Store content is off by default.
Note: The Settings and Import button aren't present if you're using Music Sharing, which is different from Home Sharing.
Automatic transfer applies to new purchases from the iTunes Store whenever they are made. However, updates aren't transferred (such as those from the App Store).
Automatic transfer only applies to iTunes Store content you purchase or download after enabling Home Sharing.
Previously downloaded or non-iTunes Store content can only be manually transferred. It may be necessary to authorize iTunes Store content for playback on other computers.
Audiobooks purchased through the iTunes Store can be automatically or manually transferred.
Home Sharing can't transfer or stream audiobook content purchased from Audible.com. SeeAudible.com for assistance in using their content on multiple computers.
In addition, rentals from the iTunes Store can't be streamed or transferred to another computer using Home Sharing.
    Home Sharing tips
The best way to avoid duplication is to use the Show menu located in the lower-left corner. Choose "Items not in my library" before transferring any content.
I do not have a drop down menu in the Home Sharing window, and also cannot choose items not in my library.
MY question is, how do I copy my purchases from Itunes  from my mac to my pc????
    Step by step please.

    Hi clissmann,
It sounds like you simply wish to have your purchases on both your Mac and your PC. You can accomplish this by accessing your past purchases using the information in the following article:

  • Is it possible to use screen sharing between lion and mountain lion

I could always use screen sharing between my 2010 macbook and my 2007 macmini, both with lion. But now since I upgraded the macbook to mountain loin it doesn't work. The macmini did at first show up on the macbook finder sidebar under sharing like it always had done but as soon as I tried to connect the sharing option disappeared and won't come back. The macmini can still see the macbook however, its on the finder there. But when I try to connect from the mini to the macbook I get an error message that says something like "server error" and contact administrator(that's me!)I can't upgrade the mini to mountain lion as it's too old.So it this an incompatibility between the two operating systems or is it something else?
I also tried to do it with BackTo My Mac,enabled through icloud on both computers but no luck, not even showing the Back to my Mac icon on either Finder sidebar like it's supposed to.When I did it through system preferences-icloud,it said this was successfully enabled but it just doesn't work at all.
Cross about this since I always use the macbook to control the macmini which is plugged into a flat screen tv and it's much easier than fiddling around with a mouse and keyboard.

I can screen share my wife's Lion iMac using Mountain Lion and the reverse is true. If the computer is not showing up to be selected under shard on the left column of the finder it is probable a connection issue. I would check my home network, restart the the macs and toggle the sharded settings and energy saving settings like wake for network activity. Be sure and set up iCloud on both your macs and turn on UPnP if you have a router for your home network serving up NAT IP Numbers. UPnG will make the port forwarding enteries in you router to allow you macs to connect behind the firewall created by nat addressing.
I am currently having a problem with back to my mac. S
creen shares great the the Lion iMac but Mountain Lion to Mountain on one computer will not connect if the computer is sleeping. It lights the screen on the sleeping computer but never shows on the computer requesting to share. File share always workd. If I wake the computere before I attemp the connection, screen share work as it should. If I try to screen share while the second computer is sleeping, It will never work again until I restart the iMac.

  • Home Sharing Between MAC and PC Problem

    Hello all,
I am having an issue with home sharing between my iMac and PC. Here is the setup:
IBM x61 tablet with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit- I run itunes and see the iMac's itunes library just fine and can import perfectly
iMac with Snow Leopard- iTunes can see the IBM's library but can't load the library; it gets hung up. Also, the icon next to the library from the x61 is a music symbol and not the home icon so I know something is wrong. I have tried everything in the troubleshooting section of the apple support page besides opening the ports. It seemed to have happened witht the latest iTumes update.
Should I try port forwarding? I use a d-link 815 router and have avira anti-virus. Has anyone had success with windows 7 firewall and the ports?
Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
    Diggs

I'm not 100% sure of the terminology used by Windows or any other Windows firewall programs but in essence what you want to do is allow those port to pass through. Forwarding sounds correct to me. Do you only have one firewall active? I know Windows has its own built-in firewall and some security software also install firewalls and I know some people don't realize that they are running two and should turn one of them off. Not sure if you amy be running into that problem.
Here is a thread where someone shows what they did with their firewall settings to get things to work.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16495919#16495919
Also, I wrote this for someone else. It explains how sharing in iTunes works. Maybe it can help you to troubleshoot your problem.
Home Sharing is enabled by selecting Home Sharing from the 'Advanced' menu (see screen shot below) and entering your Apple ID and password. Home Sharing allows unrestricted access to the shared iTunes library from computers on the network as well as from iOS devices. Home Sharing is required for access by iOS devices, they do not work with Library Sharing. Home sharing also allows you to copy media from one computer to another, something you can't do with Library Sharing. Home Sharing overrides Library Sharing if both are enabled.
Library Sharing is enable by selecting 'Share my library on my local network' in iTunes Preference (see screen shot below.) Library Sharing does not work with iOS devices. Library Sharing only allows for the playback of media from shared libraries. You cannot copy media from one computer to another using Library Sharing. The 'Status:' indicator will display a count of the number of computers that are connected to your library using Library Sharing. Home Sharing connections will not be indicated here. You can also restrict who can connect to your library using a password. This password restriction has no affect on Home Sharing connections. They are authorized and controlled by the use of Apple IDs.
How to tell if you are connecting to a library shared by Home Sharing or Library Sharing (see screen shot below.) A Home Sharing library icon looks like a house with a musical note on the side. A Library Sharing icon looks like a stack of CDs with a musical note on top. They are both labeled by the name of the shared library as configured in iTunes Preferences.
I think I've covered everything and hope this helps people understand the difference between the two types of shared libraries and how to configure each.

  • Home Sharing between pc and ipad. Where is the library and sharing icon on ipad?

Hi, I have followed the exact Apple instructions on how to set up Home sharing on both Pc and ipad2. However when going to music app or videos app, I see no icon for the library or shared library as shown on the screen shots. Tried to see supports troubleshooting, but there is no indications on how , where and when these Libraries should show up. There is something saying you should immediately create a library on your ipad, but no instructions on how to do so. So for any of you with a successfull sharing setup between pc and ipad, any tips are appreciated. I.e. When and where will the shared library show up on the ipad if it ever will?

  • File sharing between Macbook and iPhone 5s? AirDrop or bluetooth

Just purchased my first Macbook ever! I'm catching on quickly however I've run into a snag with file sharing between my other Apple devices.
How can I pair and send files between my MBA and iPhone 5s?
I've made the change in system preferences to allow file sharing, yet still pops up on my iPhone that my MBA doesn't support this.
Also I've enabled Airdrop on both devices yet I can't seem to get that to work as well. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I would love to be able to easily send pictures or documents from my MBA to my iPhone 5s via Airdrop and vice versa.
    Thanks in advance

Regarding AirDrop, note the quotation below from: iOS: Use AirDrop to wirelessly share content
You can't use AirDrop on iOS to share with OS X users, and OS X users can't use AirDrop to share with iOS devices.
The iPhone has limited bluetooth profiles and the only supportde connection between an iPhone and a computer is for tethering (sharing the iPhones cellular data connection). iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles

  • Home Sharing Between Mac and PC with Windows Vista and Wireless Ethernet

    Hello.
I want to ask if anyone knows what is the problem.
I have Home Sharing Activated in my two computers and File Sharing Activated too.
My MacBook Pro has iTunes 10 and Snow Leopard all updated and my PC has Windows Vista and iTunes 10.
My MacBook Pro is connected to my network wirelessly and my PC is connected by the Ethernet Cable.
    Anyone can help?

since you don't describe the problem in detail, see if something here helps:
what you want to see in iTunes is this (view from my MBP's iTunes seeing the library on my Mini)
if you then click on the house icon, it will change to this and the shared library will load. at that point, two buttons will appear in the lower right corner of the iTunes window, being settings and import
now you should be able to import any content from any shared library by selecting the content and clicking on import.
if the icon looks like this , home sharing has not been set up correctly.
in order for home sharing to work
    (a) iTunes on all machines must be authorized for the same iTunes store account
    (b) all machines must be on the same network
    (c) all machines must have access to the internet.
if none of the above makes a difference, try turning home sharing off on all computers, then turning it back on.
these reads will be useful: one and two.
    JGG
