Using Hotmail with Mail?

Hi
is it possible to re-route Hotmail into the Mail program? I would prefer to do this than use an '@mac' address, but the Mail program is nicer to use . If this is possible, how would I go about doing this?
thanks
Josh

Thanks very much! The plug in was very helpful, however now a message pops up saying that i need to subscribe to hotmail. Fair enough, I followed the link but there doesn't seem to be anything extra i can subscribe to!!! I cannot buy any additional account bonuses.
However, windows is now running Live now so instead of hotmail. Could this possibly be part of the problem?
Any support would be great.
Thanks
Josh

  • Can I use Hotmail with Mail?

The title pretty much says it all, and if I can use Hotmail with it, how do I set up mail to do so? Thanks in advance.

How long have you had this Hotmail account?
Since I've never had a Hotmail account and never will, I'm not sure but I believe when Microslop made the subscription change which restricted accessing a free Hotmail account with any email client such as the Mail.app, existing free Hotmail accounts at the time the change was made were not affected.
If your Hotmail account was recently created, you must have a paid Hotmail account in order to access it with any email client.
    Why bother with Microslop anyway?
You can get a free Gmail account, enable POP forwarding via the Gmail account preferences with webmail access which provides for accessing a Gmail account as a POP type account with the Mail.app.

  • Problem using Hotmail with Mail

I recently installed leopard and configured a hotmail account to use with mail, but the problem is that every time I open Mail, it downloads all the emails from the account, and even if I delete them or mark them as read, the next time I open mail, they'll show up again, and it's very annoying. Any solution other than deleting all the emails on the hotmail account??
    Thanks

P.S. I just noticed another issue here: everytime I receive a message in my hotmail account, it shows up twice in Mail. The first problem is more important, but this one's annoying too..Any clue?

  • Viewing folders using Hotmail in Mail?

I'm using Hotmail in Mail and can only see Inbox, Sent and Junk folders.
How do I see all my mailbox folders?
    Thank you
(NB not sure if this is in the correct forum?).

I was trying to find something on it, but I cant get into the account anymore, I deleted my hotmail account after I signed up with Gmail.
~BUT, if it is the same, I would log onto Gmail, and then went to the Mail Settings, and they had a list of options of what you could push to your other email devices.
Hope its the same for hotmail!

Perhaps we could answer the question better if we knoe what functions were taking up the most time. Are you having to delete spam that slipped through the craks? Moving Mail to folders can be accomplished through mail rules.

  • USING HOTMAIL IN "Mail"?

I was wondering if it was possible to use a free online internet account (like hotmail) but using the mac "mail" interface? When I tried to set up an account on "mail", i was asked confusing questions about what "server" my mail was on. Thanks in advance for any help, correct me if i am wrong.

    Hi golfromeo
The trouble with many free mail providers, including Hotmail and Yahoo, is that they don't use the POP standard which would allow you to interface with client email programs such as Apple Mail. Both the paid Yahoo Plus, and the free GMail, both use POP, and their help pages will aid you in configuring Mail for their accounts.
One way to work with Hotmail is to use MacFreePOPs. You have to have this utility running all the time, but it seems to work well for a couple of clients I've recommended it to.

  • Sending hotmail with mail

I just got my macbook a couple of days ago and am having trouble setting up my hotmail account with the mail program. I've had hotmail for a long time and have never had any trouble setting it up with outlook express. Here's my problem so far. I can get email to come in, but when I try to send an email, the program says my email address was " rejected by the server smtp.live.com." I have the outgoing server set to use the default ports and I have ssl set to on and authentication set to off. If I try to turn authentication to password, and enter my email address and password, it won't log onto the server at all.
Has anybody run into this before and found a solution?

It's been a long time since I've had to set things up so my information might be old, but when I bought my macbook, it wasn't possible to directly download hotmail into Mail. Of course you can do it with Outlook - they are the same company! The workaround I use is to forward my hotmail to my Gmail account, and set up Mail to accept Gmail, which is easy. I can use either Gmail or hotmail as my reply to address. There may be another way now, but this has worked well for me. Good luck!

  • Failed connection using hotmail in mail

Hi, i recently changed my email address, my old one after downloading the neccessary package, worked well in Mail but the new one does not, i have removed all old accounts and it is completely empty but everytime i try to add the new account it appears to work but i cant send or receive mail because it says the connection failed and gives me the following message :Could not connect to 'httpmail Account'
Access to Hotmail via Outlook and Outlook Express now requires a subscription. Please sign up at http://join.msn.com/general/Email.
What does this mean? i have signed up for my new account and it works using hotmail.com so why wont it work in Mail? please help me soon!

Hotmail does not allow you to get your mail via POP3 unless you have a paid subscription starting at $19.95 /year.
The free version is only accessable via webmail UNLESS you use something like HTTPMail

  • Can you use Exchange with Mail.app?

    Hello,
I have attempted to search for this answer but have not found anything that really helped me. Can someone guide me to an url or resource to see if using Exchange on a Mack with Mail is possible?
    Thanks so much!

    Hi all;
For MS Exchange on Mac, you need to run IMAP4 on MS Exchange server to allow Mac users connect and download emails locally using Mail.app (copy from emails remain on server like Outlook).
    For that do the following:
    1. Enable IMAP4 service:
    a. From Services (Local).
    b. Microsoft Exchange IPAM4.
    c. Change it to Automatic.
    d. Start the service.
    2. Enable IMAP4 in MS Exchange system:
    a. Exchange System Manager.
    b. First Organization.
    c. Servers.
    d. 'Server name'.
    e. Protocols.
    f. IMAP4.
    g. Default IMAP4 Virtual Server.
    h. Right click and Start.
    3. Restart MS Exchange server.
    On Mac client (Mail.app):
    1. Add new account.
    2. Email Address: [email protected]
    3. Password: user's password.
    4. Account Type: Exchange.
    5. Incoming Mail Server: "MS Exchange server" IP or Full DNS name (i.e. Server.test.com).
    6. User Name: [email protected]
    7. Password: user's password.
    8. Outlook Web Access Server: Same to Incoming Mail Server.
    9. Outgoing Mail Server: Same to Incoming Mail Server.
    10. Check "Use Authentication" and fill User and Password fields.
    11. Check "Take Account Online" .
Note: Mac users have to join the windows domain

  • Using yahoo with mail application

Hi, I just got a Macbook Pro for Christmas, and can't access my regular yahoo email account with the mail program in the dashboard. I did get my hotmail account to work, why won't yahoo work unless you have the paid version? Is it just the POP version, or does it work with IMAP or the other options? I really don't know what those mean, but I would really like to be able to get my yahoo email from the dashboard!

You'll have to take up the issue of why Yahoo does not work with Mail unless it is the paid for version with Yahoo. It is their product and they made a business decision several years ago that they want payment for this type of access.

  • Using hotmail with the mail application

I would really like to use the mail program with my hotmail account, I tried an application that someone suggested but it did not work. Does anyone know of any programs that will allow me to use my hotmail in the mail application?

You're showing as running a Windows machine.
I would suggest using Google Mail. You can either set up GM to forward your messages, or configure Mail's POP3 account settings and have them brought in when you do a 'get mail'.

  • Using Hotmail in Mail with Lion?

I have a Hotmail account which I access via Safari/Google Chrome etc and have also set it up successfully via the Mail app on my iPhone and iPad.
However, when i access it via Mail on my MacBook Pro (which uses Lion), the next time i access it via the internet browser it has moved hundreds of old mails to trash - does anybody know why this might be happening?
Also, out of interest, is it possible to set up a new e-mail account with Apple and access it remotely via a browser (in the same way hotmail works)?
    Many thanks
(NB: I have also posted this elsewhere as not sure I put it in the right forum, so apologies for the duplication).

that worked but then i got an error "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “[email protected] ” or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server “pop3” on port 110 timed out."
also if i delete from mail will it delete on the server?- unlike my itouch-is there a way i can get emails to delete from the server if i delete them from my itouch?

  • Can I use hotmail with the Mail app?

I looked at the mail app, but didn't see hotmail in there. Can I use it on the touch after upgrading?

I had this question as well. i don't think MSN or Hotmail allows the enabling of pop mail. Therefore it cannot be used unless you subscribe it to a pop mail client. I just switched over to gmail to maike things easier. But would love to find out an answer to this question

  • Ever since updating to 7.0.1 I am unable to attach anything to e-mails sent using Hotmail with my firefox browser. I have no problems using IE. Any ideas?

(the attachment buttons are all visible, but the cursor does not change from an arrow to a finger to click on them)

@corel: Many thanks for your response.
I did all the steps suggested by you, viz. clearing the cache and removing all the cookies of all the Google products. Unfortunately, when I tried to log into my G-mail account, the original problem I had posted, '''just returned'''! ! So, I have not been able to successfully log on to G-mail from Mozilla Firefox 8, the current version I am using.
In the mean while, I found that logging in to G-mail from the Google Chrome browser works fine. But I am not happy with the Chrome, as it lacks many of the elegant features of Firefox.
Further, from the HELP forum of G-mail,
I found that they have updated G-mail to "G-Mail2" and now to "Better G-Mail2". But I was unable to get any information on how to create an account under either of those newer versions from Firefox.
So, I have to sadly report that your suggested solution did not work, nor was I able to log in to any of the newer versions.
Please HELP! Please HELP! Please HELP!
    With warm regards.
