Using HP Deskjet 2540 with imac G5

Hi,
have just acquired an imac G5 and can't get it to work with my HP Deskjet 2540 either wired or wireless? Just states unsupported on the CD and again when I try to download software online. Any suggestions?

What version of Mac OS X is on the Mac G5? How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
The Deskjet 2540 will not work with 10.5 and lower, it is only compatible with 10.6 and above. I suspect you have an older operating system on the Mac and therefor the software can not be installed.
It might be a good idea to get a newer Mac.

you should still be able to get a copy of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), which should run on your G5.

Yes, of course, that is what is used in Japan. You can still type any language, not just Japanese. It just has a slightly different layout.

How to print with HP Deskjet 2510 with Imac G5 on Tiger ?

Hi Folks
I desperately need some helping hand....
Today my old trusty printer died (HP 1510 print/scan/ copy) and I ran to buy another one because I need to finish some tax paperwork.
In a mad hurry, I didn't pay any attention to tech specs and I went home with brand new HP DeskJet 2510 All In One device. But !!! : ((
In my home office I still use Imac G5 with 10.4.11 which is still pretty good comp for office work but I found out that the HP 2510 don't officially support my Imac with Tiger. Only from 10.6 and later.... I know that Imac G5 can't run nothing above 10.5.
So, is there any way to "force" HP 2510 to somehow recognize my Imac G5? In "about my mac" on USB port, the HP 2510 is visible ....

You may be able to get it to print with something like this:

although i do not see taht modle on the "Supported Printers" page. You might look again.
BUT that workabout does not support scanning, only printing.
I think you need to return the printer and look to either Canon or Brother. Brother especially has been better about suporting older Mac OS versions but you'll still need to get a model number and search the maker's site BEFORE buying to see if they show older drivers for download.

Want to use Dell Laptop/Dock with iMac Display

Hello, i currently have a MBP and a Work Laptop (Dell with Dock) and i would like to change my MBP to a iMac but i would like to use the same display on the iMac for the laptop dock too.
Is this possible?
I have read a couple of posts and am i right in thinking that there is no way of doing this with the new iMacs or the very new iMacs getting released in Nov/Dec?
Do i need to buy a 2009/2010 iMac and if so, is this easy to hook up?

I just checked my laptop outputs, it does not appear to have a display port out, but the dell dock it sits in does.

Can't use Target Disc Mode with Imac Indigo? help

So after holding off on buying a new imac for over 5 years I decide to pick one up. I restarted the intel imac in target disc mode. After doing that. My old imac gives me a message saying it can't read the contents of the hard disc connected through the firewire.
This older imac doesn't even have an option for target disc mode. It has Panther OSX. Do both computers have to have the same operating system? Are there any other options out there. I just want to get the 7 gigs of music off my old imac and onto the new intel imac.

Depending on which indigo you have, some didn't even have FW ports. The slot loading ones did, and according to Apple, with firmware 2.4 you can use FW Target mode. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583)
Another option is to connect the systems with FW but configure IP over FW and then enable sharing on the indigo and connect to it.

Using external isight camera with imac intel

is there a procedure to use my 'old' portable isight camera with my new imac intel?

i did some tests and here's how is is done:
plug in the FW external isight camera; open SKYPE and prior to calling on SKYPE; go to preferences.; go to 'video' and there NOW two selections 'built-in isight' and 'isight'; select 'isight' and that will be the camera you will using once you make the SKYPE call; HOWEVER if you want to switch back to the 'built-in isight' you have to 'hang up'; go back to preferences and select 'built-in isight' and re-make the call. BTW Apple care in the far far east was next to no help. maybe apple care will read this post and then THEY TOO will have the answer.

Using an external camera with iMac

I want to use either an external camera or my panasonic video camera with my imac, and wonder if anyone has any recommendations. For some reason, the old pc Logitech camera does not work, and I cant seem to get the video camera to work either.

Can't print to CD using Epson Print CD with iMac and Mavricks

I just got a new iMac to replace my older MacBook.
Both systems have the latest version of Mavericks 10.9.5. and the latest Epson printer driver for my Artisan 730. On the iMac when I try to print to a CD using Epson Print CD I am unable to select the media type like I can on the MacBook. On the iMac the selection is grayed out and I cannot select anything from it. See screen shot below.
On the MacBook for Media Type I can select CD but on the iMac as you can see is grayed out. I can't figure out why. I have looked at the Epson support pages and I found no help there. So I am trying here to see if someone can help me out.

I might as well tell you now, but it has been found that CDs last longer that are not printed or labeled on. And drives are able to better handle disks with no labels. Use jewelcases with inserts to keep track of what's on a CD or DVD. It is not a direct answer to your question, but I have a CD printing printer, the Epson R220, and I won't use the CD labeler. If you must do it, and you don't care about the longevity of your disks, make sure that the tray's rear entrance is not blocked. People who have put Epson Photo R220's against walls have had the same error you are getting.

Using Maxtor hard drive with iMac

I have recently switched from a PC to iMac. I used a Maxtor hard drive with the PC and want to use it with the iMac. The iMac will read files from he drive but won't write. I'm told that this is because of the NTSC format of the drive. How do I unlock the drive so that I can write files to it?

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
to do this you must reformat the external (I presume) drive to the FAT32 format.
You can do this with Disk Utility.
BUT, before you do this copy the files already on the external drive to someplace on ypur internal drive, since reformatting deletes everything on that drive.

Trying to access my home printer with my touchpad connected to my home network with printer sharing enabled !! Is this possible using eprint or any other possibilities?

The printer you have does not support ePrint or Airprint features. To print from your touchpad you will have to use alternate cloud printing options such as Google Cloud Print. More information on how to use this setup can be found at:

Posting problem using safari or firefox with IMAC

Can anybody help with the following issue. I can access the labs.macromedia website, I can access the Light room posting board. But signing in using safari or firefox on a imac is troublesome and takes several minutes and is half of the time unsuccesful. When trying to post, the signing in screen shows up and asks for e-mail address and password, no problem after pressing the button "continue" the system hangs for so long that safari reports a time out. I have no problems with other websites on the same imac machine I have tried this whole routine on a windows machines from the same location and internet connection set up and no problems at all. A report from another safari user shows also no problem at all. I assume that it is a combination of safari/firefox, this website and my machine settings. Probably I have to change something on the settings for safari or firefox or Imac, but I don't know what. Is there any experience with same problems and a solution out there?

Using Java and EditRocket with iMac?

I am trying to compile a program on my iMac using EditRocket. I have to write programs in Java. I am having no luck on my own and AppleCare couldn't help me either. I cannot locate the Java in my computer and in order to use Editrocket I have to link the compiler to the Javac which I have not been able to figure out how to do. I am having dificulty locating the JDK on my computer and I am having difficulty downloading JDK from java.sun.com as well.
Am I going about this totally wrong? Can someone help direct me to stpe by step instructions so I can get up and running for my class? No one at the college seems to be able to help because everything they use is PC based, however my professor told me that I could use a MAC to do this work because the information is out there.
Is there another program I should be using or something?

Using Epson Photo R260 with iMac

iMac found driver and printer works fine with it, but.....now that one of the 6 ink cartridges is low it wants me to replace it before it wil print.
The problem is that one doesn't know which cartridge is low. I go to the printer info and it has a "supply level" button but it spins and looks and says the information is not available.
How do I know which cartridge is low?
You can't see in them and to replace all 6 is about $70 and a big waste of the good ones.

A bit more research shows that CS3 runs in 32 bit mode. The problem I had was with CS5.
You could try asking in the Adobe Photoshop Community or in fredmiranda where there are many Photoshop gurus. (both require userids which are free).

Is it possible to use the Deskjet 1100 with Mac OS X 4.11, or do I have to upgrade my OS?
