Using .htaccess to password protect in safari

I am using .htaccess to password protect a directory on a website. Is there a way to force safari to forget the password other than clearing the cache and quiting safari completely? Can a log out be created?
Thank you

Internet passwords are stored in the keychain. Launch the Keychain Access application, find the password item, and delete it.

  • Leopard: using .htaccess to password-protect directories on local server

    I'm familiar with protecting files via htaccess/htpasswd, and have done so in Tiger, but haven't been able to make it work under Leopard. I have a default, virgin Leopard install. /etc/apache2/httpd.conf has AllowOverride All set on its root directory. The .htaccess and .htpasswd files exist. But when I browse to the folder, no password prompt comes up. The access and error log don't show anything interesting.
    Help?

    /etc/apache2/httpd.conf is deceptive. It is overridden by directives in /etc/apache2/users/*.conf. So you also need to AllowOverride All in /etc/apache2/users/user.conf for the user for whom the folder in question is inside ~user/Sites/. (And then sudo apachectl restart of course.)

    How to show ipad application in itunes, but will only be assessable to owners, not the general public by using lock code/password protected on iTunes

    So if I understand you properly, I need to create EOs for all my list of values (which are based on views of Oracle apps tables) and base my VO on those EOs. And then I setup associations between these EOs and the Item EO. Then I include the these EOs in my Items VO and add the description attributes to my list of attributes. I had done this for the list of users, but for the views of Oracle I had just created read only VO. Sounds like that won't work if I want to display the description. I know what to do - I guess I was hoping there was a way to use the read only VO.
    Thanks

  • Is there any way to set up an Airport Extreme that had been previously used in a password protected network and the password was not provided by the seller ?

    Background -
    My original Airport Extreme Base Station failed (would not connect to the modem). I purchased a similar, if not identical base station on eBay. Unfortunately, the purchased base station apparently was used in a password protected network. For what it is worth, my son gave me a Netgear wireless router, but it leaves a lot to be desired. For one thing, I use to keep the cable modem in the basement along with the Airport base station, with a printer connected to the USB port. The Netgear device does not have a USB port and also requires that the computer (in this case, the eMac) used to set up the network be connected to one of the ethernet ports. This meant I had to move the cable modem and router into my bedroom, a very undesirable situation. It then occurred to me that the original Airport base station Wi-Fi function might still work, and tested this hypothesis and sure enough, the Wi-Fi function does indeed work I currently have both base stations powered on, with my printer connected to the original. Both base stations appear under my Network icon, but neither Airport Utility 5.4.2 or Airport Administrator Utility 4.2 see either base station. I can select the original base station as my network, connect to the printer or even my other computers, but as soon as I try to select the new one, it asks for the password. I would like to somehow reset this base station and then redefine the network name and encryption.

    I would suggest that you perform a "soft" reset on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) that you just got from eBay. This type of reset will temporarily (5 minutes) disable both the base station and wireless security passwords so that you can access it with the AIrPort Utility to make the necessary changes.

  • Using keychain to password protect applications

    I want a special password to open Quickbooks. Is that possible?

    no. you can change permissions on it so that only one user can launch it or you can put the app inside an encrypted disk image which would have to be mounted before you can run the app.

  • Safari unable to open password protected websites

    I reported this bug using the bug report button on the Safari toolbar three beta version ago, and as the bug hasn't been fixed yet, I'm beginning to wonder if these bug reports actually go anywhere, especially as I once sent a "bug report" when I was not even connected to the internet and was told that the message had been sent successfully!
    When I go to for example www.ofcomswindlecomplaint.net/dev/, it asks me for my username and password, and then when I submit the correct username and password, the dialog disaapears momentarily and then reappears with a message saying they were invalid - but they are not invalid, and I can log in to the site in any browser other than Safari.
    Is there any way of ensuring this issue is seen by the developers? As I say, I have reported it three times via the bug report button but those bug reports seem to have gone into a black hole.
    Dave

    Safari has no problem with the site - if I remove the password protection Safari has no problems. It's IIS-based standard password protection that Safari isn't compatible with. And it's Safari Windows that is the problem, not the site - no other browser has any problem with it. It's a Safari bug and my question was how I can ensure that the developers are aware of it, given that the bug reports button on the Safari toolbar seems to go into a black hole.

  • Password Protect Safari

    Hi I am running Safari 4.0.4 for Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I was wondering if there is any add-on maybe or a setting I'm overlooking in the preferences that i can password protect my safari program. For example everytime the program is opened it would prompt for a password in order to use safari.

    Nothing I can think of in the Safari settings themselves, I'm afraid.
    Is your normal Vista user account a non-administrator account? If so you could try setting up a Vista parental control for Safari, so that you were the only person who could use it. (Unfortunately, that won't work if your user account has full administrative rights.)

  • Password Protect a Folder

    Hello,
    is there a way to password protect a folder?
    THX
    Ben

    Almost. You can open "Disk Utility", then File > New > Disk Image From Folder. Choose the Folder you want to "password protect", then click Image. In the next dialog box, choose one of the two types of encryption (not none!). Also choose a name for the disk image, and click "Save". You will be prompted for a password for the disk image. Now you have made a copy of the Folder you wanted to password protect, and it will have a dmg extension. To eliminate the original Folder, drag it to the Trash and then "Secure Erase" the Trash. To use the new password-protected disk image, double click it and type in your password. In fact, you probably won't need to remember the password for the disk image itself, because it will be stored in your keychain. Rather you will need to type in your usual login password so that disk utility can retrieve the image's password from your keychain.
    Two comments:
    1. You may not want to secure erase the original folder until you are sure the disk image works!
    2. I don't have a lot of experience with this, so I can't promise the disk image will be writable, and not read-only.

  • Password Protection gone bad

    I password protected some PDF's under a different version of Adobe. I bought Standard and installed it. Now I can't open those older PDF's because it doesn't recognize the passwords. I've tried every password I can think of. Any suggestions?

    Are you sure you're entering the password EXACTLY as you've originally entered it (including spaces, upper/lower-case letters, etc.)? Does the password contain any special characters (unicode characters, quotes, other symbols)?
    If all else fails, there are tools out there that can be used to remove password protection from PDF files. Google is your friend...

  • Confirm password protection?

    I'm new to using AE at home and I want to ensure that the network is secure. So, two questions. (And thanks for the other answer's I've gotten here so far.)
    1) After completing all the setup steps, correctly, I believe, how can I verify that the system is indeed password protected?
    It's hard to test the password protection, now that both my Macs have the password committed to keychain memory, because they automatically log into the network without any input from me (as they should, of course, but this prevents me from testing to see if the network demands a password before allowing anyone else in). Is there any way to verify that the password protection is "on" (ie working)?
    2) Do both WPA and WPA2 encrypt data in both directions, to/from the macs and the Airport Express?

    Pegasus, hch, thanks for your replies. Looking at the posted BIOS screenshot I think those are boot/BIOS passwords only that do not protect user's data. If you could test it Pegasus it would be great help for others searching similar information in the future I guess
    As for the eDrive it is not an option you can enable/disable in BIOS. It is hardware base Windows BitLocker that can work with compatible SSDs provided some requirements are met, like:
    - The system needs to support UEFI 2.3.1
    - UEFI boot should be enabled and UEFI enabled Windows 8 should be installed
    - The computer must boot natively from UEFI.
    - The system needs to support Opal 2.0 standard
    - The computer must have the Compatibility Support Module (CSM) disabled in UEFI.
    Personally I use ATA HDD password protection since it provides fast and easy way to protect the data whenever I need it. I would love to see that feature in MSI gaming notebooks.

  • After updating on my mac - I cannot open various password protected pages - like my WordPress site. I can open them from Safari and from Firefox on my windows pc.

    after updating firefox , it won't allow input of password on various sites - like my wordpress admin page. I can access this page from safari and from firefox on my windows pc.

    I cannot open password protected WordPress pages using Firefox. They open using IE
    If I remove the password protection the page opens correctly in FF.
    I have cleared the FF cache and cookies several times, No change
    I have modified the wp-pass.php file several suggested ways related to the referrer and nothing solves the issue.
    I tried:
    wp_safe_redirect(wp_get_referer());
    to
    wp_safe_redirect(wp_get_referer() . '?');
    NO GOOD
    I tried:<br />
    <br />
    <pre><nowiki>$location = wp_get_referer();
    if ( $location == '' )
    $location = './';
    wp_redirect($location, $status = 302);
    </nowiki></pre>
    NO GOOD
    I have upgraded WordPress to 3.3.1. Still NO GOOD
    I have deactivated, and also removed all plug-ins. Still NO GOOD.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Why just an FF issue?
    IE no problems

  • How can I login to a site that is .htaccess password protected with java

    Forgive me if this is a dumb question. I am have never done this before and haven't been able to find out how to do this. I want to send some xml (passportRequest) to a server that is listening. The hard part is this server is password protected with htaccess. I have the username and password and I tried adding it to the url (ie https://user:password@server....) but not luck. I read somewhere that I can't do that anymore...is that right? I tried the code below but no luck there either. Any of you guys have any tutorials you could point me to or suggestions? Thanks!
    String urlStr = "https://www.myserver.com/pathto/requestlistener";
    URL url = new URL(urlStr);
    HttpURLConnection con = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
    con.setRequestMethod("POST");
    con.setRequestProperty("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
    con.setRequestProperty("reqData", passportRequest);
    sun.misc.BASE64Encoder encoder = new sun.misc.BASE64Encoder();
    String encryptedPassword = encoder.encode((customerId+":"+password).getBytes());
    con.setRequestProperty("Authorization", encryptedPassword);

    con.setRequestProperty("Authorization", "Basic " +
    encryptedPassword);should do the trick.AWESOME! I was so close. Thanks for the tip. Does
    "Basic" just tell the server what type of
    authentication to use? What are the other options
    available? Where can I learn more about this stuff?
    I figured it was something simple like that, but when
    no one responded I was beginning to wonder if it was
    possible. I didn't know why it would be (its setting
    headers and that shouldn't matter where you are doing
    it from, browser or code). Thanks again!All of this (including what you have to supply to log in from any client, Java or not) is in the information that the first link in my previous post displays. However - you have to read it.

  • How to open a password-protected PDF in Safari on iPad(3)?

    I have some password-protected PDFs available on my public-facing website (hosted by MS Office365) that I'm unable to open in Safari on my iPad(3). When attempting to open these files using Safari on my iPad, I receive a grey screen with no presentation of the Adobe Reader "insert password" dialogue box. I do have Adobe Reader installed on my iPad. These PDFs do open on my PC with both IE9 and Safari. I can also open these PDFs on my iPad independent of using Safari. And, I have some non-password-protected PDFs on my website that open using Safari on my iPad. The problem seems to be uniquely associated with the combination of 1) a password-protected PDF, 2) Safari, and 3) the iPad(3). Does anyone have a solution to this particular situation?

    Someone on another forum said you can with the app Goodreader Lite, but I haven't gotten to try it yet. I will let you know in about 45 minutes.

  • With Safari, No search results in password protected iWeb site on MobileMe

    Hi,
    I'm publishing my iWeb site to my ME.COM account.
    I have the site password protected as offered in iWeb.
    But when the site is password protected and I'm accessing the site with Safari the search with the search field in the site does not produce any results.
    Only the message:
    "Your search did not produce any results."
    If I use FireFox everything works fine and the search provides the expected results.
    Looks like there is a bug in Safari.
    Thanks and Regards,
    JO
