Using HylaFax

Does anyone on Windows 8 have experience with Winprint HylaFax?  It works on my bosses Windows 8 program but I continue to get "format failed" when trying to fax on my new computer.  I have installed and uninstalled.  Checked the settings on his computer against mine and all seems to be the same.
Any help would be appreciated as to why it won't run on my computer.

  • Access to serial port ttyS0

    Hello,
I'm trying to use a self-built mgetty+sendfax package (the one in AUR doesn't compile here) to access my modem on /dev/ttyS0 (to send faxes to DSL / VoIP). The mgetty+sendfax program "fax-helper" normally runs as user "fax" and tries to access ttyS0 as group "uucp". That worked some months ago, at that time /dev/ttyS0 had the following access rights:
    crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 4, 64  1. Jan 21:56 /dev/ttyS0
But now the right to access ttyS0 is more restricive:
    crw------- 1 root root 4, 64  1. Jan 21:56 /dev/ttyS0
The group changed from "uucp" to "root" only - and the fax-helper application of mgetty+sendfax can't access the port any more. Of course, faxing works when I manually change the group to "uucp" before sending the fax. After reboot, the access rights for /dev/ttyS0 then are again restrictive root.root.
What is the optimal solution for this issue?
    a) Using hylafax instead of mgtetty+sendfax. I haven't tried hylafax yet, so I don't know whether hylafax solved the problem.
    b) Setting up an udev rule to change the access rights for /dev/ttyS0. Will that work?
    c) Use a fax service in the internet (that's not free of charge while for DSL / VoIP I have a flatrate).
    d) Try to modify mgetty+sendfax to run the fax-helper application as root?
    Your help will be appreciated.

    (b) sounds like the best solution to me.
Google search result that seems reasonably close to what you need.

  • HylaFax on OS X 10.4.7 Working with internal modem but not USB Modem

I have managed to configure and install HylaFax on a powerbook G4 with an internal fax/modem.
Only a couple of hangups to get that configuration to work.
As per the prerequisites outline here:HylaFax Prerequisites
You need the Xcode tools to use it's compiler.
The only other thing you may not have is:
    libtiff
    ghostscript
If you are running an x-serve you probably already have an MTA as well (postfix)
There are someOS X Specific install instructions of which I only had to follow the first couple, to create a user. Some of the latter instructions I found unecessary since startup is handled by launchd as far as I understand.
Before I compiled I had to put the hylafax source on a thumb drive, I know it seems wierd, but it worked. Something to do with the HFS+ format of the hard drive. But low and behold it worked. (the hylafax website mentions issues with other disk formatting besides UFS, but the fat32 formatted thumb drive worked for me)
    A little side note:
You need to actually download the ghostscript fonts from the ghostscript project FTP site and mv them to the proper location:
    /usr/local/share/ghostscript/8.54/fonts/
    Once installed run:
    /usr/local/sbin/faxsetup
It should prompt you to install your modems.
After doing this I had to start hylafax
    #sudo /usr/local/sbin/hylfax start
and run a faxgetty command to enable incomming and outgoing
    #sudo /usr/local/sbin/faxgetty ttys.modem
After doing so I was able to receive faxes and open them up with a pdf viewer, as well as send faxes via an application or printer driver on the mac and PC (windows xp with win hylafax print) Super SIMPLE! which is great for end users.
Okay so here is why I am actually posting on here. It is great that I got this working, but the final configuration will be on an x-serve that has no internal modem, and I would like to use more than one modem in case of high traffic incoming and outgoing. I purchased 2 apple usb fax/modems and when running faxaddmodem it even recognizes the modem, but never is fully able to use it like the internal modem. If anyone has any insight it would be great.
The issue I am seeing is that when I run
    /usr/local/bin/faxstat -s
The modem says Waiting for modem to come ready
    Thanks!

Just wanted to say I got hylafax to work with a usb modem on a powerbook, not sure if it's stable and user friendly enough to be used my a wide base here, but it's definitely cool, and it does work. I just wish it had LDAP/mysql integration, instead of the flat file business it has.
Anybody with any input on hylafax would be great.

  • Using VoIP and can not send or receive fax. I am now also having problem scanning

I use VoIP for phone service. I can not send or receive faxes although the Fax Test Report Pass. Now I am having problem scanning. My main concern is with faxing.

    Hi,
This won't work for analog fax. You need a normal analog telephone line to fax this way. Please check the following article:

    Thanks!

I haven't worked with HylaxFax in a few years, and never used Efax.  But from what I remember HylaFax was *very* particular about the modem.  Did you confirm yours is one of the supported ones ?  Back then there were really only a few that definitely worked, along with many that were only partially supported and even more that just wouldn't work.
I bought an older, external MultiTech Multimodem specifically for HylaFax, since it was one of the "definitely works" variey.  Even then I had to reset it frequently.  Maybe things have improved since then, and I remember doing a lot of terminal commands directly to the serial port.
So I'd recommend confirming your modem is officially supported, then checking if there are any commands you can run to check, reset, or manually test it.

  • SAPConnect :: FAX uses wrong FROM address

    Hi guys,
We've successfully upgrade our old 4.6C system to SAP ECC6.
We still have a minor issue with sending faxes.
We've installed a Hylafax-server which will send the faxes using a modem.
On this Hylafax server, a mail relay server is installed as well.
Basically SAP (SAPConnect using communicationmethod FAX) will send an email to the Hylafax server with a PDF attached. This email will be received by the mail server and hylafax will fax the PDF attachment.
Hylafax will then send an email back to the address shown in the "FROM" field of the email to indicate whether the fax was sent successfully or not.
Now... everything works perfect, except SAP always sends the email to the fax server with "from" address "0000000000000000@<domain>" instead of the SAP user's emailaddres filled in using SU01.
The weird thing is that we tested this before the upgrade on a test SAP server, and it worked on the test machine..
Also, on the same SMTP node, using communication method "INT (internet)" it works perfectly.
But using communication method "FAX", this problem occurs.
Does anyone has any suggestions on what could be the problem?
At this oment I'm running out of ideas.
    Many thanks in advance.

    We have faced same/similar problem.
We use SAPConnect SMTP for fax. Faxes geet forwarded as SMTP mails to a fax service provider, and gets faxed from there. SAPConnect picks user's email address from user master as "Sender" address. It is working perfectly fine in R/3 4.7 production environment.
We upgraded the system to ERP 6.0 EHP4 on a sandbox server. Now the SAPConnect behavior changed. Instead of using the email address from the user master SAPConnect picks the Fax Number from the usermaster and forms the sender address as "Fax=+faxnumber@defaultdomain". Now our Fax service provider cannot recognize the sender, and rejects/drops it.
WORKAROUND: One workaround that we found was to delete the fax number from the user master. Now SAPConnect falls back to email address from user master. (SAPConnect trace shows "Sender address for communication method FAX not found",  "Use e-mail address for sender").
    Hope this helps.

  • Hylafax and timezones

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with Hylafax related to timezones.
When Hylafax receives a fax, it creates a log file for it: I use a script to read the last modification time of this log file and prepare an aggregate log.
Today I received a fax at 11:17 (my local time, as read on my wrist watch), however Hylafax created this log file:
    -rw-r--r-- 1 uucp uucp 491 Aug 11 13:17 c000003492
As you can see, this is two hours in the future: my timezone is Europe/Rome (GMT+1) and we are on DST (another +1).
Also, the corresponding lines in /var/log/messages have a future timestamp, while other lines have the correct timestamp:
    Aug 11 13:17:58 localhost FaxGetty[1169]: MODEM +FMFR: "ELSA AG, AACHEN (GERMANY)" +FMDL: "MicroLink 56k Internet"/+FREV: "Version 1.00 / 18.01.1999"
Aug 11 11:25:03 localhost dbus[715]: [system] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit' (using servicehelper)
Aug 11 11:25:03 localhost dbus[715]: [system] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1' (using servicehelper)
Aug 11 11:25:04 localhost polkitd[1634]: started daemon version 0.101 using authority implementation `local' version `0.101'
    My rc.conf contains:
    LOCALE="en_US.UTF-8"
    DAEMON_LOCALE="no"
    HARDWARECLOCK="UTC"
    TIMEZONE="Europe/Rome"
    Current time is:
    # date
    Thu Aug 11 16:01:10 CEST 2011
    # date -u
    Thu Aug 11 14:01:11 UTC 2011
I'm using ntpd to keep my time in sync.
Do you know how can I solve this, other than manually adjusting the time when I prepare my log?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I think that you don't need to bother about time zones but the time difference. Forms does get the time it adds to the cookie from the user client, while the Reports Server session, the one that is used for comparison, is created on the server. If your server is in the US and the Forms client shows in Germany, then the time difference is 9 hours (assuming PST for the US). This means that all clients will create a cookie that has a time of 9 hours ahead of what the server has. The server will add the tolerance to his current time and based on this evaluate whether or not the client request is in an allowed tolerance.
You could fix this easily in that you get the time from Forms and pass it to the Java Bean as a String (using set_item_property) instead of having the Java Bean determining it. If Forms and Reports are on the same server or data center (which is the case normally) then you no longer have a problem with the time difference between time zones.
    Frank
Btw.: when writing the Bean I was lucky to have a test server located in the US, while my client run here in Europe.

  • How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse?

How do I use Edge Web Fonts with Muse - is it an update to load, a stand alone, how does it interface with Muse? I've updated to CC but have no info on this.

    Hello,
Is there a reason why you want to use Edge Web Fonts with Adobe Muse?
Assuming you wish to improve typography of your web pages, you should know that Muse is fully integrated with Typekit. This allows you to access and apply over 500 web fonts from within Muse. Here's how you do it:
Select a text component within Muse, and click the Text drop-down.
Select Add Web Fonts option, to pop-open the Add Web Fonts dialog.
Browse and apply fonts per your design needs.
Muse also allows you to create paragraph styles that you can save and apply to chunks of text, a la InDesign. Watch this video for more information: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/muse-feature-tour/using-typekit-with-adobe-muse/
Also take a look at these help files to see if they help you:

  • Iphoto crashing after using mini-dvi to video adapter

Hi, IPhoto on my Macbook is crashing. I can open it, then as soon as I scroll down it locks up and I have to force quit.
This started happening right after I used a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter cable to hook my macbook up to my TV. The adapter/s-video connection worked and I was able to see the video on the tv. But iphoto immediately locked up the computer when I went to slide show and now it locks every time I open it.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you:)
    Dorothy

It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do multiple family members use iTunes.? One account or multiple?

How do multiple family members use iTunes. One account right now but apps gets added to all devices and iTunes messages go to all devices.  Can multiple accounts be setup and still have ability to share purchased items?

    Hey Ajtt!
I have an article for you that can help inform you about using Apple IDs in a variety of ways:
Using your Apple ID for Apple services
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4895
Using one Apple ID for iCloud and a different Apple ID for Store Purchases
You can use different Apple IDs for iCloud and Store purchases and still get all of the benefits of iCloud. Just follow these steps:
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
When you first set up your device with iOS 5 or later, enter the Apple ID you want to use with iCloud. If you skipped the setup assistant, sign in to Settings > iCloud and enter the Apple ID you’d like to use with iCloud.
In Settings > iTunes and App Stores, sign in with the Apple ID you want to use for Store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match). You may need to sign out first to change the Apple ID.
    Mac:
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for iCloud in Apple () menu > System Preferences > iCloud.
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for Store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match) in Store > Sign In. In iTunes 11, you can also click iTunes Store > Quick Links: Account.
    PC (Windows 8):
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for iCloud in the Control Panel. To access the iCloud Control Panel, move the pointer to the upper-right corner of the screen to show the Charms bar, click the Search charm, and then click the iCloud Control Panel on the left.
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for Store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match) in iTunes. In iTunes 10, select Store > Sign In. In iTunes 11, click iTunes Store > Quick Links: Account.
    PC (Windows 7 and Vista):
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for iCloud in Control Panel > Network and Internet > iCloud.
Enter the Apple ID you want to use for Store purchases (including iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match) in iTunes 10 in Store > Sign In. In iTunes 11, click iTunes Store > Quick Links: Account.
Note: Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID for your iTunes Store account, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days. Learn more about associating a device or computer to your Apple ID.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

  • Using SQVI to generate report of open and released delivery schedule lines

    All,
I'm using SQVI  to generate an excel spreadsheet for some buyers to show open released schedule lines because they are a 1 line item per scheduling agreement company.
I used the logical database MEPOLDB instead of a table joint and pulled fields from EKKO(vendor, SA #,&purchasing group), EKPO(Material Number), EKEH(schedule line type), and EKET(delivery date, scheduled qty, previous qty).
Does this sound like I'll get the results I want on paper as long as I use the right selection criteria, because the report I'm getting isn't quite what I expect? I am unable to identify which lines are authorized to ship vs. trade-off zone, planning, etc. in the report thus far.

    Hi Mark,
I have faced same requirement. I am not sure about transporting to TST and PROD. I done by this way.
After generating SQVI program in DEV , I assigned that program  to a transaction and tested in DEV. Later i have regenarated SQVI in Production. then I assigned the generated Program to same transaction in DEV. And transported the Tcode assignment of program to Production..
About authorization , if its not sensitive report, BASIS can restrict at transaction level.

  • Using Mini DVI to VGA adapter on MacBook

I bought the adapter from Apple & hooked up my LCD monitor to the MacBook, but the video I get on the monitor is different that on my laptop. It has an old screen background & the dock but nothing on my desktop shows up. Also, when I'm plugged to the monitor, my dock disappears on the laptop screen. Is there some setting I need to change? It worked fine with my G4 PowerBook.
    Thanks for any help....
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

i use the mini dvi-vga adapter in my classroom almost everyday. It sounds like your new monitor is running as a side by side monitor to your display instead of a "replacement" display.
To get your projector/monitor to basically show whatever is on your macbook screen once you've hooked up press F7....this should make your projector/monitory become your display with your dock & all of your desktop stuff. Your new monitor will completely mirror your display.
THis should do what you're looking for.

  • Using mini-DVI to VGA adapter to Samsung display

I have 2009 late model of mac mini, The text on display looks washed out, not clear or sharp at all from day one, I thought it was the old model of monitor, tried the same cable to another monitor on another computer, SAME. so I thought the problem could be the cable or adapter.
It's hard for me to believe is the signal from computer. I'm using VGA adapter made by Dynex bought from Best Buy.
    Anybody has suggestions?? Thanks

Yeah, My old Samsung is lcd synmaster 17", bought many years ago at around $1000. Crazy, crazy price looked back. It's fine when I used it on the retired old Dell. It must be the adapter, trying not to buy another VGA adapter, could not image my next lcd will use one, anyway.
This cable has only 14 pins vs 15 pins on the other cable, not sure if it matters?? Or if Safari has anything to do with it??
    Thank for you reply...

  • Using S-Video w/ the Mini DVI to Video Adapter

I just purchased a MacBook last week and I also purchased a Mini DVI to Video adapter for it so I can use the built-in DVD player to watch movies on my TV. I have a composite to composite cable and that worked fine when I connected the cable between the Mini DVI to Video Adapter and my TV. However, when I tried to use a S-Video cable and connected that between the Mini DVI to Video Adapter and my TV; then I got no picture at all. All I saw on the TV was a picture of the MAC desktop w/o the dock and the movie or nothing else played at all.
Is the composite connection a better connection for the MAC, or, are there some settings I need to work with on the MAC to get the S-Video connection to work?

I managed to figure this one out, by fluke. The MacBook has to be powered on and ready for user input prior to connecting the mini DVI to video adapter with the s video already connected to it, and to the TV. Once I did it this way, it worked fine. I just thought I'd share this.
