Using hyperlinks in Acrobat 7

Hi -
I have created a Word document with hyperlinks within the document.  I have then created a .pdf from the document.  Is there anyway I can modify the existing links to open in a new window from the .pdf?
Thanks!
Jessica

Open the document in Acrobat and select the link tool. Then select the link and right click to edit the properties. You should be able to find your options there.

  • Using hyperlinks in Acrobat Reader iPad, iPhonr

    I have created an 'eBook' on maritime safety, using current Word for Mac. There are several hyperlinks in it, which I have checked. When I output as PDF file, so it can be read using Adobe Reader (which works quite well with my text and graphics) none of the hyperlinks work. Am I missing something or does Reader on iPad/iPhone not recognize hyperlinks?
    The Adobe Reader on my iMac recognises the hyperlinks perfectly.
    Thanking in advance.

    The problem is that Word for the Mac does NOT correctly write a link into the PDF file. But then why does it appear to work in Reader for the Mac or Acrobat for the Mac? Because those applications have a preference which temporarily creates a URL hyperlink. If you look at Preferences > General, you'll probably find that Create Links from URLs is checked. If you uncheck it, your links will not work.
    If you look for links in Acrobat, you'll find there are no links. You can look for them with the Create or Edit Link tool.
    Reader for iOS has no such preference. The problem is in the way Word for the Mac creates the PDF file. (It's not only hyperlinks. It's also not possible to generate bookmarks form Word for the Mac either. It's always been this way.)
    You'll have to use Acrobat or another tool to correctly add hyperlinks.

  • Hyperlinks in Acrobat try to open files on computer as web documents

    I have been sent a large number of pdf files that were converted from Word. They have hyperlinks in them that should open other files on my computer, however, Acrobat 9 on my computer shows them as weblinks (with the W on the cursor when hovered over the hyperlink) and tries to open them with a web browser. The file address in the hyperlink is correct, as if I copy and paste it into a Word document the link opens the file on my computer. An example of one of the links is:
    file:///C|/Users/Rob/Documents/Business/AGA/AGA%20-%20for%20Client/AGA%20Support%20-%20Dig ital/008%20HSE%20Performance.xls
    Can anyone help with a way of converting these links in Acrobat so they work properly? If not, can you suggest how they may have incorrectly turned from Work hyperlinks into Acrobat weblinks, so I can ask the person who sent them to me to convert them again without the problem recurring.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Rob

    "file://", like "http://" or "mailto://" is a URI/URL scheme. For a discussion of "schemes" visit W3C and associated RFCs.
    As such, Adobe Reader/Acrobat knows to inform the OS which knows to hand off execution of the URL to the installed browser.
    n.b., the link in PDF meerly reflects what was put in the authoring file by the content author - no "transformers" action by Acrobat.
    To fix - create a link that is not a URL; establish a UNC link or relative file link:
    --| manually edit the PDF link(s) with Acrobat
    --| revisit the orignal authoring file and correct the used link in Word's hypertext dialog.
    Be well...

    Hello,
    I would like to inform you that not all the browsers and online PDF readers support copying text from a PDF. If you have opened the PDF online, please download PDF file to your computer and then open the file in Adobe Reader.
    Please share a screenshot if the issue still persists.

  • Use HyperLink(mailto:...) to open a file?

    A question was posted previously about linking to an image file. The HYPERLINK function allows this if the image is on a web server and can be accessed via http:// but you can't use HYPERLINK to access a local file on your computer (or at least I can't seem to). The HYPERLINK function will also take a mailto: command and will open up your mail client with the address, subject, and message of your desire. I was wondering if it could also use the "attachment=..." part of the mailto command to attach a file to the email. Thus you could bring up a local image in your email client. I failed at getting it to work but I may have been formatting the command wrong. Anyone have experience with the proper formatting or anyone know if this is not a supported functionality?

    As System Events returns an URL when we ask it for a file's properties, I tried to use this URL with no results but the files where on a single machine.
    Maybe it behaves differently on a network.
    To get the URL I uses this script:
    set thefile to "Western 4:photos ???:PA030012.JPG"
    tell application "System Events" to get URL of disk item thefile
    the result is something like:
    "file://localhost/Volumes/Western%204/photos%20%3F%3F%3F/PA030012.JPG"
    %20 is the description of the space character
    %3F is the description of the question mark character

  • Some of the times when I print a document from the internet using my Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro printer, the letters appear in the PDF as symbols, How do I correct the problem?

    On many documents that I try and print from the internet such as receipts, conformations, etc, using my Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional printer, the PDF shows some if not all the letters as symbols.  I think it might be font issue, but do not know how to fix the problem.  Any suggestions.
    On another issue, can a Tiff file of my signature be inserted in a PDF?

    Hello,
    For 1st issue please follow the steps in given article:
    Missing or Garbled Text Printing from IE9 to Adobe PDF Printer
    For 2nd issue:
    You can create a signature appearance:
    For example, you can include your scanned signature.
    1  (Optional) Save the desired image on a page by itself, and convert the page to PDF.
    2  Choose Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Acrobat (Mac OS) > Preferences, and select Security.
    3  Click New, and type a title.
    4  (Optional) Select Imported Graphic, click File, and select the desired file.
    5  Specify options as desired.

  • Unable to edit XLSM files in SharePoint using hyperlink?

    Hi All,
    Unable to edit .xlsm files using hyperlink, please guide me.
    Thanks
    Ramanjulu Naidu N

    Hi Ramanjulu,
    Did this happen to all users?
    Did the "Read Only/Edit" dialog pop up when you click the .xlsm Name link from SharePoint 2010?
    Could you see the yellow message bar with "Edit Workbook" button when you open the .xlsm file in your Excel Application?
    You can check if the following kb article could solve yellow message bar missing problem, set "Browser File Handling" as Permissive for your web application, or update the registry for client Office application.
    Also check if the add-on "SharePoint OpenDocuments Class" is enabled in your IE 32-bit browser.

  • I am using CC adobe Acrobat to combine multiple pdfs and add page numbers. Mac users can no longer read the page numbers but pc users can.

    I am using CC adobe Acrobat to combine multiple pdfs and add page numbers. As of about 2 weeks ago the mac users can no longer read the page numbers they get a font error message and see only -- where the page information should be. The pc users do not have this same problem. When I replace our regular font (URW Grotesk) with a system font (Verdana) everyone is able to read the page numbers. This is a new issues, I have been creating these documents in the same way for years without a problem. I have been on hold and on and off calls for the last two hours, I keep getting hung up on once I find someone in adobe support to talk to!

    Hi KnoopL,
    Are the Mac users using Preview to view the pdfs or Adobe Reader?

  • How do YOU organize pages, create a site map, and use hyperlinks?

    I had to get out of bed to bring this up with you all; I couldn't stop thinking about this next learning curve. It is: How shall I organize the topics I have in my website? One extreme is to have all of the topics showing in all of the nav bars at the top of all the pages. The opposite extreme is ............ I cannot truly visualize it.
    I think that the big obstacle for me is that i don't want to hide any pages so well, so slickly, that they can be found only by the most focused and persistent website visitor. I can see how some pages could be lost to a lot of casual website viewers.
    On the other hand, there are some pages that are natural groups. In my case, the U.B.R.O.L. group is that. It is made up of five people and me. I have one page for a photo slideshow which has one photo of each of us, but then I have a separate page for Nigel and his photos, a separate page for Vali and her long bio and photos, and a separate page for Helen, her short bio and her many photos.
    Tonight I tried making hierarchies using hyperlinks, so that U.B.R.O.L. shows up in the Site Menu, but Nigel, Vali, Helen, and Peggy do not show up. To get to their photos, one would have to click onto the U.B.R.O.L. group page. Once at the U.B.R.O.L. page, one can then click onto Vali's, Nigel's, and Helen's page, and then from each of their pages there are 3 hyperlinks: one to return to U.B.R.O.L., and three more hyperlinks to click onto the others who have personal pages. (Peggy does not have a personal page because she is shy and never gave me more photos or a bio of herself. She prefers anonymity.)
    But even though I put those hyperlinks on those pages, I am having an internal concept war, my friends, and a solution is not at hand.
    I am thinking of how I am going to deal with the pages made for me, my husband, and my husband and I together.
    I cannot imagine clearly how a Site Menu would look at the topmost level and much less of an idea how each page would look several levels down.
    I welcome any direction you could send my way. I would like to know how you organized your pages, how you decided which pages would not be listed in the nav bar, and what you did to/with the pages that were not listed in the nav bar.
    Would you please send me the URL of your website so that I can SEE what you are talking about? I am not good at imagining what people say; I have to see it rather than imagine it.
    Lorna in Southern California

    Lorna, mostly from reading books, Iearned the following things.
    •Don't make me think (actually the title of an excellent book on webdesign)
    •Every information should be available in at most 3 clicks
    •Tell them where they are, where they can go and where they have been.
    IMHO, iWeb lends itself fairly well for these last 2 criteria. The Navbar is a very useful tool and I suggest you do not go too far away from it.
    On my current issue of the toy theatre magazine (which is NOT a beautiful website) I wanted to go in 3 languages; English, German and Dutch. I knew i was courting disaster but one can be so ambitious. This in fact meant that I had to do 3 sites. Sites being defined as a group of pages structurally belonging to each other.
    So I made an Index/Splash page with a nice picture, a title and 3 flags. These being links to the 3 versions. (I did not want to make them think on the Splashpage).
    Clicking a flag brings the visitor to a Contents page on their version of the site. Just like the Contents page in a book. Here they can choose to go to any of the items and on each and every page of the site is a Contents button that returns them there.
    Pages are numbered in the middle of the website, and to the leftside the number of (and link to) the previous page and to the right the same for the next page.
    The current issue is number 25, ( http://www.vischmarktpapierentheater ), the previous 24 were done in Freeway and the design stems from there.
    The translation to iWeb did work well but in the end the result was disappointing mostly because I wanted some slideshows, hated the "None .Mac accounts" version and went overboard with Keynote slideshows, really ugly.
    The other problem stems from the triple language idea. This meant that I had to do either 3 versions of each slideshow, or make one version accessible for every language. This menat some convoluted linking which I will never do again.
    In short If you want to go "deep", make various sites and link each starting page to you Index/Splash, keep the starting pages of each site on the Navbar Make a Contents sidebar or something like that on each of the starting pages, and than you can go anywhere within the required 3 clicks.
    Good Luck

  • How do I retain a PDF form widget's design when setting its value using Javacript in Acrobat?

    I've been experimenting with interactive PDF forms in InDesign and JS in Acrobat. I think I've encountered something that might be a bug: widget design is overriden when using Javascript to set the field's value in Acrobat. Here's what a checkbox, for example, should look like when checked:
    However performing:
    var f = this.getField("Checkbox");
    f.value = "Yes";
    in the JS Console results in the widget's appearance defaulting to acrobat's:
    I've tried every single widget property documented in Acrobat's Javascript API Reference to no avail. Initially, checking/unchecking using the mouse works fine. Once the value has been set using JS, Acrobat's default black check character is used for all subsequent toggling, including when using the mouse...
    How does InDesign export interactive PDFs with custom icons for widgets? Is there any way to enforce the use of those icons using JS in Acrobat Pro? What's the difference between selecting a checkbox or a radio button using the mouse and setting its value using JS?

    I thought it might be the case, too, but all widgets have the same properties both before and after setting the value with JS. I did this check using all documented properties in Acrobat JS Reference in an attempt to figure out what might be going on.
    By the way, I don't think Indesign necessarily uses glyphs for the checked state of widgets, although in this case a glyph is used (albeit with different stroke and fill colours for the glyph, acrobat doesn't allow setting these properties AFAIK). With Indesign CS6 it seems you can practically use any Indesign tool to design the widget's On and Off states. So I'm thinking that maybe Indesign exports these with button-like properties where there are no restrictions on appearance (I think there is an "icon" property/object for buttons or something like that). However Acrobat treats them as checkboxes, so if that is the case it is more of a hack. Is there a way to probe an object's various properties other than using JS or the properties pop-up dialog?

  • How do I make Safari open PDF's using installed Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0

    I would like to force Safari 3.1.2 to open all PDF links using Adobe Acrobat 7.1.0. How do I accomplish this? I have no problem making Safari use the Adobe Reader, however, I would like to use the full Adobe Program so I can save and download interactive PDF forms I have filled out on the web. Using the Adobe reader, you can only download the form itself - all supplied information using the form's interactive features are lost when the filled in form is downloaded.

    Hello, Carolyn:
    Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, it is not working for me. I have both Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0 and Acrobat Reader v. 9.0.0 running on my computer. In either program's preferences both programs are availabe when I choose the program to display PDF files in the browser (Safari). There is no problem setting Safari's PDF handling to the default value.
    When I choose Acrobat Reader to be the program to display PDF files in the browser, Safari will indeed use Acrobat Reader. However, when I choose Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0, Safari does not use the Adobe Acrobat program to display the PDF file, rather the file is displayed by the PDF handling features built in to Safari. I have found no way to make Safari use the full version of Adobe Acrobat. PDF files residing on my computer opens without difficulty using my copy of Adobe Acrobat v. 7.1.0. Do you have any other ideas that would help solve this problem?

  • Use hyperlink to open another page , and pass some parameters to that page

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post.
    How i can use hyperlink to open another jsp file in a new window meanwhile pass some parameters to it.
    for example i need something like this :
    http://127.0.0.1:8080/myProj/faces/Viewmessage.jsp?messageID=10
    i can not use session bean because i must open that in a new window and use hyperlink not Action
    Thank you

    I tried the following in the equivalent of your Viewmessage (page bean):
            ExternalContext eContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
            String text = "Parameters: ";
            Iterator it = eContext.getRequestParameterNames();
            Map requestParams = eContext.getRequestParameterMap();
            while (it.hasNext()) {
                String key = (String)it.next();
                String value = (String)requestParams.get(key);
                text += "; " + key + " = " + value;
            staticText1.setText(text);That works as expected when you reach that new page via a hyper link.
    The session object is also the same as in your `old' window. So be careful about synchronization!
    I hope this helps.

  • Linking KN9 files together using hyperlinks, fades to black

    When linking KN9 files together using hyperlinks, I press play the document being linked to fades in, then out to a black screen and after a couple of seconds returns to the files open files on my desktop.
    I've checked all the setting and it even does it on 2 empty pages I tested with no transitions or document settings.
    If I open both document before pressing play it's OK but because I have several large files being linked together I dont want to have to open all the files before presenting to clients etc.
    Thanks!

    The History
    I reported the hyperlinking problem over a year ago when I updated Keynote from version 5.0.5 to version 5.1. According to the Apple tech that I wroked with at that time the Apple engineers had reproduced the issue and had put it on the fix list (Case 235638615). I then worked with Apple in December 2011 to test a version that supposedly fixed the problem, but did not, so Apple sent me a data logging monitor program which I ran and sent back. The Apple tech asked me to be patient as it might take awhile for the Apple engineers to fix the issue. When version 5.2 came out I reran my testing suite of presentations and found that the hyperlinking issue had still not been fixed. I have tried to contact Apple about my case since July 26th - my emails to the Apple tech with whom I worked back in December bounce back as undeliverable and he does not answer his phone (I have left messages with no replies) plus when I try to use Apple support to follow up on the case, all I get is a message to contact my Apple tech (Doh!). If Apple techs or Apple engineers watch the forums I hope they look into unresolved Case 235638615.
    The Workaround
    Hyperlinking worked fine with 5.0.5 - the .key files would load and display and did not have to be preloaded prior to runing the linked presentations. Version 5.1 through the current version 5.2 require all of the linked presentations to be preloaded prior to running them. Prior to the current version of Lion, I was able to manually run version 5.0.5 to successfully run my system of 32 presentations. The only downsides were that I could not use any transitions or animations introduced with version 5.1 and I had to force quit Keynote 5.0.5. However, when I tried that solution this month, it would not work. So I created an Automator app to load the appropriate subset of presentations for each day of the five day class and used version 5.2. Everything went okay with preloaded presentations.
    I love using Keynote and do not want to go back to PowerPoint, so I hope Apple fixes this issue. I think we have been more than patient with the Apple engineers.
