USING I-DVD AND DVD STUDIO PRO TOGETHER

Can anyone tell me if its alright to be formatting a dvd in dvd studio pro and also Asset encoding in I-dvd on the same computer at the same time, its seems to work ok but does this slow both of them down at the same time and does it cause any problems with the formatting?

About the OP question, I never had a problem using the computerwhile building and/or encoding other than my CPU getting slow. But I prefer not using the computer while burning DVDs.

  • Using New GL and FI-SL both together

    Hi,
actually we use FI-SL (SAP 4.6C). Our system will be upgraded on mySAP ERP and we will use New GL. Is it possible to use FI-SL and New GL both together in mySAP ERP? We must continue the use of FI-SL in mySAP ERP, but we like to use New GL additionally. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance!
    Grit

    Hello Grit,
technically, it is not a problem. The statement is, if you have used FI-SL like a general ledger (with your specific adjustments, field movements, etc) then you should switch to newGL. FI-SL is considered (again) as a reporting tool over many applications (= SAP modules). You do not need to give up your FI-SL application(s) when migrating to newGL.
    Hope that helps, points welcome

  • Thoughts on BEST COMPRESSION for use with iDVD and DVD Studio Pro...

    Hi all...
I'm having an issue with some visual artifacts that are present after burning a dvd using either idvd or dvd studio pro.
My sequence containts footage (h.264) and photographs with titles. The photos (w/moves) look great, very crisp. So do the titles.
However, the video looks awful. Pans and tilts creating streaking, so does any action with the frame.
I don't see this streaking while viewing in the qt window or when previewing the dvd...
I'm exporting as a qt reference using the dv/dvc pro setting, when I check the dvd on an ntsc monitor, the image is very streaky.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Are you using FCP?? Then I see why you said QT reference movie... which is the best way. Being more descriptive about your setting when posting a question will return more helpful answers. (editing tool, source materials, machine spec...etc) You said that your footage was h264 and you posted your question in iMovie forum so I couldn't have guessed FCP and DV...
If your sequence is DV on FCP I can't think of anything else but QT reference movie route. I don't understand why your video won't show interlacing in QT player or DVD preview, but perhaps they force deinterlacing for preview, who knows.
You said your DVD looks 'very streaky' on ntsc tv. Is it to the point that it looks unnatural? Is overall motion jerky? If so, perhaps the field order had been messed with and changed. But I'm not quite sure about the exact nature of your problem. Visual problem in a subjective verbal description can be hard to communicate

  • Questions about Using Lightroom and Print Studio Pro

I want to use Print Studio pro via the lightroom plugin since as I understand it, that is the only way to ensure a 16-bit file is being passed to the printer (on Windows).  However, I am a little confused about how the image is being rendered.  Is lightroom applying a default output sharpening to the file before handing it off to Print Studio Pro or Does Print Studio Pro manage resolution and Output sharpening based on the media and print size you choose?
So basically I am wondering if there is any output sharpening being applied, and when is it applied.  The possibilities I think would be:
Lightroom is applying a default output sharpening when rendering the file to TIF for Print Studio Pro (If this is the case, what setting is being applied and is it possible to change it?)
Print Studio Pro is applying output sharpening based on media type and print size, or applying a generiz amount of sharpening that does not take into account media or size.
No Sharpening is being applied.  In this case, I should probably be exporting this file manually with output sharpening applied and then opening in Print Studio Pro
The other question I have is if when using the plugin is the TIF file that is being generated in 16-bit pro-photo to ensure the maximum amount of color data?
Because if Print Studio Pro is not applying sharpening I think it may just be better to print through the lightroom tool even though it renders down to 8-bit because the amount of control I have via the lightroom print module would be far more advantageous than any color data I am losing by printing in 8-bit.
Anyone know the answer to all this?

I had similar questions when I first got my Pro-100.
    1. You can call up PSP from any module, so I assume it is ignoring print module settings.
    2. If I select a Saved Print, which adjusts the print module settings specific to that print, and the open PSP the paper settings in PSP are not what is in LR, supporting the "ignore" conclusion.
    3. I ran some test prints using LR to print at three different output sharpening settings (Off, Standard, High) to ensure I could see a difference (I did).
    4. I ran four test prints: LR-Standard, XPS driver, LR-Standard regular driver, PSP using standard driver and PSP using XPS driver. I couldn't see any difference between the four prints.
Since LR is such an easy printing process I haven't seen a reason to use PSP.

  • Superdrive suddenly stopped recognizing DVDs and DVD-Rs

Okay, I just spend 2 whole days trying to find any situation like this. Trouble shooting and experimenting.
Whilst burning a CD with Toast the process suddenly stopped during verification and an error was given. The CD spit out. It was just some music and I had work to do, so.. I went on to burning some data onto a DVD-R.
The Disk went in. Spun. Made a noise like the when a reader is trying to figure out what the media is. A Grrrrr. It spins some more. A long pause of about a minute.
Then the disk is spit out. No error. The disk is never recognized. Toast asks for blank media again. Keep in mind, just before this I was burning DVD-Rs. Same Media. Same process. Just stopped to burn the music CD.
So, I figure its bad media. I get about 1 or 2 on a spindle of disks. Usually at the bottom or the first disk. So, I put another disk in and try again.
Same thing. So, I try from Finder. Disk is never recognized. It is spit out the same way. (Thought that maybe something on Toast was corrupt)
Pretty freaked out, I put a burned DVD-R in. Nothing. Then a comercially pressed DVD. Spit out as well. (It was Elf. Which I would have spit out too) I then put a pressed CD in. (Madonna) It is recognized and iTunes starts up. The CD even plays.
I try to burn a CD-R. The process starts and when it is buring the Write out at the end it stops and gives me:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = BLANK CHECK
    Sense Code = 0x00
    NO ADDITIONAL SENSE INFORMATION
Then the disk is spit out after I hit Okay. Eeep.
Someone gives me a Maxell lense cleaner disk. Nothing to lose. I played it. Because it is a CD format. The drive recognizes it and I am able to run the clean process.
Then I got the same results. One attempt I get another error:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = HARDWARE ERROR
    Sense Code = 0x44, 0x8E
    INTERNAL TARGET FAILURE
Now all this is strange because... this is a 9 month old G5 dual with the superdrive that Apple put in it. Pioneer DVR-109 dual layer DVD-RW. There have been no unusual behavior leading up to this failure. The drive is not over used. I have not changed media.
I tested the drive with DVD-Rs from other spindles. And different brands. Including some old 1X DVD-Rs that I had forgotten in my hutch. (still sealed in there crystal cases) Same results.
So...has anyone ever experienced this with the 109? or even other drives. I can't believe it is a hardware issue because there hasn't been any previous signs of impending failure. (I have seen the deaths of several drives over the years) I am convinced that it is some obscure control files somewhere.
I ran Tech Tool Pro 4.1.1 on it and did a surface scan of a CD. The only way I could get it to recognize the drive. It reported the drive as unwritable, even though it identified it correctly. (as did System Profiler)
Sorry for the long explaination. But, I don't want to waste anyones time with avenues I have already explored.
Thanks to anyone who has some light to shed on this.

    Thanks Drew,
I have avoided the external drive option because I thought that they would be slower, or less reliable. However, we have been using those Maxtor Firewire external HDD around here and they are great. So, maybe an external DVD-R might be a good solution now.
(They used to be fairly poor options a few years ago.)
We have an Apple Store 2 blocks from my office here in San Francisco. Shiny new and it looks like a Titanium Cube. My experiences with the Genius Bar and before that Applecare have been the feeling that they spend a good deal of time trying to see how this could be my fault and not their responsibility.
Also, because I am a bit of a geek, by the time I resort to getting help from them, I have exhausted the usual "in the book" solutions. Usually, they are ill prepared for something unusual, that isn't caused by not having the power plugged in, etc.
I do customer service here for the more technical issues our customers have with Video on Demand and DVD issues. People can be really hostile when they call. So, I go out of my way to be pleasant and upbeat when I am dealing with my problems. Apple Care/Genius Bar people aren't rude or anything. I just get the feeling that they are pressured to not spend too much money making customers satisfied with their hardware. (a matter of policy is my bet)
I use my Macs because their software is unparalled in its ease of use and professional application. When I have to deal with duplication houses and their techs. I often hear a sign of relief when I tell them that I am using DVD Studio Pro to author my masters. Because this means that the DVD-Rs I send them are correct and compliant in everyway.
Apple software rocks. I am encouraged by their move to Intel chips recently for their hardware.
Thanks again Drew. I am working on the permissions today and if it looks like a hardware issue, I am off to look at an external. Great suggestion.

  • How to measure current and resistance if i only have DAQ using VB 6 and Measurement Studio

I want to do a remote lab for basic electronic lab. One of the task is to measure current and resistance. How to do it if I only have DAQ card and using Visual Basic 6 and Measurement Studio. Can anyone give me a clue.

If your DAQ device is supported by DAQmx, you can use it with VB6. Here's how: NI-DAQmx Support in Visual Basic 6.0.

  • Using G5 HD and DVD Drive in Mac Pro

I just ordered a Mac Pro to replace my G5/Paperweight.
G5 is the Dual 2.5Ghz model w/ 160G HD and the Superdrive. According to the Apple Store I brought it to when it crashed, the HD from the G5 is fine (the MoBo went though) as is the Superdrive. Are these compatible with the Mac Pro? What about jumper settings?

As long as the hard drive is a SATA drive it is fully compatible with a Mac Pro. The optical drive should work as well. If there already is an optical drive installed then you may need to jumper the drive for CABLE SELECT if it isn't already so configured.

  • Use G5 Hd and DVD drive in a MacPro?

My G5 has a hardware problem and am looking into purchasing a MacPro (the problem is not with the hd). Will the hard drives from my G5 go into the Mac Pro? Do they need to be reformatted? What about the DVD drive?

Your drive should work, but you do want to reformat it so it uses GUID partition table. There is a 2nd optical drive bay too.

  • How do I change my computer back to being able to use American cds and dvds? I accidentally changed it when I was in Europe and can't figure out how to change it back.

I went to Europe and watched some movies on my computer that were made there. I would just change my computer back and forth from American to European movies. I didn't notice that you could only do that 5 times. On my fifth switch I changed it to European and now I am unable to change it back and I am back in the US. How can I change this back?

Try going to the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on your phone and tap on your account id, tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account, and then select the Country/Region section and select the US.

  • Using a Mac and a Surface Pro with the same catalog?

I am using CC on my Mac as my primary computer. I'm thinking of getting a Surface Pro to use as a second computer.
    1. Are there any issues with opening and saving a catalog back-and-forth between a Mac and a PC? I'm thinking of doing it via Dropbox.
    2. Has anyone used LR on a Surface Pro? Can everything be done via touch? Does it work well? I'd like to mainly be able to go through all of my photos and tag and rate them on the Surface.
    Thanks.

Using dropbox seems to be one of the choices people make when working with the same catalog on multiple computers. It reportedly works well as long as you ensure that you allow ample time for synchronization.
I cannot answer your question about the Surface Pro. You could download the trial version of Lightroom and evaluate for 30 days and then decide for yourself.

  • Error building using Coverity Prevent and Sun Studio 11

We recently started using a static code-checking tool called Coverity Prevent. When we first started using it, we were on a very old verison of the Forte Compiler (Forte 6 update 2). Builds completed fine through Prevent. In the last month, we've upgraded to Sun Studio 11 (can't go to 12 because we're using Solaris 8). Now I can't get a build to run completely through Prevent. Prevent has a preprocessor that's a bit more strict than most compilers. I'm getting the following errors in a lot of places.
    "/vobs1/cots/ForteDeveloper/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/defs.h", line 316: error #101:
"istream" has already been declared in the current scope
    class _RWCLASSTYPE istream;
    ^
    "/vobs1/cots/ForteDeveloper/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/defs.h", line 317: error #101:
"ostream" has already been declared in the current scope
    class _RWCLASSTYPE ostream;
    ^
    "/vobs1/cots/ForteDeveloper/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/rw7/rw/defs.h", line 318: error #101:
"ios" has already been declared in the current scope
    class _RWCLASSTYPE ios;
    ^
    "/vobs1/cots/ForteDeveloper/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/Cstd/iostream.h", line 4: error #101:
"istream" has already been declared in the current scope
    using std::istream;
    ^
    "/vobs1/cots/ForteDeveloper/SUNWspro/prod/include/CC/Cstd/iostream.h", line 9: error #101:
"ostream" has already been declared in the current scope
    using std::ostream;
    ^
I've googled a bit, and most of the solutions involve someone mistakenly putting "using namespace std" in a header file. I can't find any case where we do this in our code. One specific file that is failing includes one local header, and that header only includes <fstream.h> and <rw/cstring.h>. It seems like RW and std are conflicting with each other somewhere, but I can't figure out where. The compiler command looks like:
    /vobs1/cots/ForteDeveloper/SUNWspro/bin/CC -xildoff -instances=static -mt -g -fsimple
    -xlibmil -xO3 -xtarget=ultra -DUSE_VFU_LL_C -DXRT -KPIC -library=rwtools7_std -x
    libmopt -DRW_MULTI_THREAD -I/vobs1/cots/rogue/workspaces/SOLARIS7/SUNPRO50/12d -c c4i_file_stream.cpp
We're still pointing at an older version of RW for the DBTools libraries (rebuilt using the compiler's internal Tools++), but we're using the compiler's internal Tools++ headers and libraries for everything else.

It sounds like Prevent is not processing the #include directives, or possibly some other preprocessing directives, the same way as the Sun C++ compiler.
The C++ Users Guide documents how #include directives are processed, and in particular the order in which directories are searched.
If Prevent provides similar documentation, you can compare the docs. If you see a difference, maybe Prevent has some options to control the behavior to make it work like the Sun compiler.
Note: The CC driver passes some -I directives to the C++ compiler proper (ccfe) that do not appear on the CC command line that you write. The exact -I options depend on other options on the command line. Possibly Prevent is not using the same set of implicit -I directives.
If you can't resolve the #include directive issue, you might need to talk to Coventry tech support.
We at Sun are happy to work with 3rd-party vendors to help them get their products working correctly on Sun.

  • Exception while using Java Comm and Java Web Start together

    Hello Java Experts!
Here's the problem that's been bothering me. The application i'm developing uses Java Comm API to listen to Serial Ports. The application works absolutely fine when it is run locally.
Now, I need to deploy this remotely using java web start. All resources(dependent jar files) are present on the server and are referenced properly in the JNLP file. All jar files are signed properly.
Still, it throws the following exception.
    java.lang.NullPointerException: name can't be null
         at java.io.FilePermission.init(Unknown Source)
         at java.io.FilePermission.<init>(Unknown Source)
         at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkDelete(Unknown Source)
         at javax.comm.CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers(CommPortIdentifier.java:70)
The exact line of code where it apparently seems to error out is...
    Enumeration portList = CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifiers();
Are there any security issues involved here? Can a application deployed through java web start access serial ports on the system?
Any pointers as to what the problem might be would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I have the IBM Communications API. I've
been told that it works with Java Web Start but I
have not tried it. IBM has changed it's download site
    so.... I can't point you to it. But I have it(55k zip'ed)
and can send it to you if you post your E-Mail address
of where you would like it sent.

PS If it does work with Web Start please post the

  • Possible to use both PowerPC and Intel-based systems together with Qmaster?

    Hello,
New to the Qmaster setup, I was wondering if it was possible to set up a Qmaster cluster mixing PowerPC and Intel-based systems. If it is possible, what version of Qmaster would support this type of cluster?

While it can work, note that if there is huge difference is processing speed, the PPC machine can actually slow down the process as everything waits for it to finish it's instance and copy it back.
It's worth a try but keep an eye on how the various computers perform.
    Have fun.
