Using iCal Keyboard Shortcuts when Spaces is Enabled

Hi everyone!
I'm trying to use the command-right arrow and command-left arrow to quickly move between months on iCal, but it keeps activating spaces and sending me to an empty space on my desktop.
Any ideas to use the iCal shortcuts without disabling Spaces?
Thanks!
- Jena

Hi Jena,
You can change the Spaces shortcuts. Go to *System Preferences* > *Exposé & Spaces*, select the Spaces tab and change the *'To switch between spaces:'* option there. You can change it to use the Control or Option key instead of the Command key.
Best wishes

Can't use the keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop CS6 when updating Mavericks

Thanks everyone. What worked for me was a version of the suggestions above. I had the problem with the ≠ character appearing in all my Photoshop CS6 keyboard shortcuts and rendering them largely unusable. However, I don't have any other keyboards besides US English enabled on my Mac. I do have Spell Catcher installed, which works through the keyboard input method. So, I switched from Spell Catcher back to English (with the US flag), launched Photoshop and presto, my keyboard shortcuts were restored, absent that obnoxious ≠ symbol. Once in Photoshop, if I reselect Spell Catcher, the ≠ symbol returns so I have to run Photoshop without the help of Spell Catcher - or forego the use of keyboard shortcuts while it's on. Since the developer of Spell Catcher passed away last year there will be no more updates to the otherwise very useful utility. Apparently this keyboard shortcut problem in the various guises reported here is linked to some element of the OS X input method in Mavericks, as Photoshop seems to manifest the issue in relation to one specific input source or another. This is the first application in my experience to have a problem with Spell Catcher in OS X 10.9. So I will continue to use it, except in Photoshop. Spell Catcher was never updated for Mountain Lion or Mavericks so people like me will have to use it "at our own risk" as the saying goes. Be that as it may, it does appear to be a bug in Photoshop that's at the root of this matter as different people have somewhat different problems with the OS X input method - not that I expect either Adobe or Apple to do anything about it.

  • Keyboard becomes unresponsive after using keyboard shortcut for Spaces?

Hi, I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2 and have the most annoying bug! I always use spaces, and sometimes after using the keyboard shortcut to a space, my keyboard becomes completely unresponsive and I have to log out and log back in again!! Any known fixes? It's happening on my Macbook and Mac Mini!
    Thanks

Check this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2161076&start=0&tstart=0) for the exact issue. Seems widespread.

  • Add a keyboard shortcut for spaces

I would like to add a keyboard shortcut that enables me to switch my current active window to adjacent spaces (right, down, etc). Is there any way to do this?

Im sorry, I must have poorly phrased my question. I would like to switch my current active window (ie the browser that I am typing from currently) from space one (my current space) to space 2 (to the right) using only keyboard shortcuts.
I know that I can click on the top of this window and use the shortcuts that you have provided to move it. However, I would like to move the window with only the keyboard.

You can also check in System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts, make sure that custom shortcuts were not created using those same commands. If ones were, they could be creating a conflict. Step throuogh each of the items in the left list, checking the array presented in the right pane for each.

Cmd+tilde to switch between open Word documents, or

  • Keynote crashing when using the keyboard shortcut to play the presentation

This has happened twice to me now in the last two days. I haven't been using Keynote regularly, but will be giving more lectures at uni, so hope this is something that can be solved. Each time Keynote crashed, I had an unsaved Word document but when my macbook restarted, the word document was still there, and the keynote presentation was gone. Is there any way to auto-save keynote presentations, and no, I don't have a time capsule yet.
    Thanks, Derek

It is more of because when your keyboard shortcut is set to that, the command given to the computer is only to shutdown the default way, which Apple made it to reopen windows when logging back in. And when u said that it was a preference to reopening windows when logging back in, it is not a preference. It is more of a question whether u want to reopen when u are shutting down/restarting your computer.
I also have a similar problem, but it is not about the keyboard shortcuts. I want to create a program to help restart into bootcamp, but when I restart back into Mac OS, it helps reopen the windows.

  • Why is up next adding songs twice when I use the keyboard shortcut? (windows)

I only encounter this using the mini-player
as far as I know, at least; because the keyboard shortcut doesn't even work on the full sized player.
    augh.

You should post that on the Boot Camp  forum, that is where all the Boot Camp and Windows guys hang out.
    Good luck.

  • Keyboard shortcut for Spaces?

I'm pretty new to mac, and loves space on my macbook. But I've run into a problem...when I'm out and about I use spaces all the time, but when I get home I have external monitor that I use as a secondary display. I normally disable spaces when I get home, because I don't want create spaces like I was without a second monitor. Currently I'm going into spaces and just disabling it, but is there a keyboard shortcut that will allow me to disable spaces without having to go into system preferences?
    Thanks in advance.

there is no built in tool for this. but if you REALLY want to do this you can make a service that toggles spaces on/off using automator and applescript. you can then assign a keyboard shortcut to run ot. or you can make two separate services one for turning spaces on and another to turn them off and make separate shortcuts to them. I can supply the details but do you actually want to go through all that? I would recommend using spaces at home too. I find them quite convenient with two monitors as well as with one.

  • Ical Keyboard Shortcut

Do you know how to set up a keyboard shortcut so I can enter a reminder in Ical while I'm working in another program?

OK. Here it is step by step.
    Open Automator (Applications/Automator).
    Select File >New.
From the "Chose a type for your document" option select "Service".
In the main Automator window, on the left, select Library > Calendar.
Choose the "New To Do Item" action and drag it into the right part of the window.
Make settings you want here. Choose the calendar you want the new items added to etc., don't set 'due date' though.
From the File menu select Save. Name the service "Make Reminder" and click Save.
    Quit Automator.
    Open System Preferences.
Select the Keyboard preferences in the second row.
    Select the Keyboard Shortcuts tab.
    On the left select Services.
Scroll down on the right to find your "Make Reminder" service.
Make it active by checking the checkbox by it.
Click on the right of it (the same distance away the other key shortcuts are).
A white box should appear for you to make it a shortcut.
Press the keys you want to use in any application to make a reminder (I used Cmd-Opt-Shift-R in the hope that it was not being used by something else).
When the key comination is entered quit System Preferences.
Test the service by selecting some text and pressing the key combination.
Let me know if you need any more instructions.
    Best wishes

  • Can't use mouse/keyboard/trackpad when waking iMac from sleep mode

Basically as the title says. When I wake my iMac from sleep mode I am unable to use my keyboard/trackpad/mouse during the login window. Once the screen goes black by itself, after a minute or so I can then log in properly.
Yes the keyboard/mouse/trackpad are all connected when it wakes from sleep as I can use any of them to wake it from sleep, I just can't move them or type with them in the login window.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My iPhone 4S is no longer using the keyboard shortcuts

my iPhone is no longer working with the keyboard shortcuts I have set up.. Anyone else having these problems?

What happens when you try to sync? Do you see any error messages? Which software on the computer are you referring to, iTunes? The latest iTunes is 11.1.3. If you cannot update the phone due to lack of storage, you will need to delete some content from the phone.

Hi, does any one know how to show a tooltip for the currently active item in a web page using the keyboard? I can get tooltips to display using the mouse, but I'd like a keyboard shortcut too. Shift -F1 didn't help, nor Ctrl-F1.
    Any ideas?

  • Is it possible to keep keyboard shortcuts when updating to CS5?

Is there a way to preserve my presets, especially my customized shortcuts when I update to a more recent version? I went to the CS4 folder -  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Presets\en_GB\Keyboard Shortcuts - , but all I could find was the defaults (Illustrator Defaults.kys)
I'm interested in maintaining all the presets, but keyboard shortcuts are more important to me.

You are looking for the keyboards at the wrong place ! Keyboards shortcuts are stored in the preferences folder , here is the path for preferences in your Win xp machine:
    Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4 setings\en_us.
under en_us folder you would find your customized keyboard short cut file with extension .kys
let me know if this helps.
