Using ichat with entourage

I just switched from xp to mac and am trying to figure out ichat. I prefer to use entourage vs Mail however from what I can read, ichat is designed to work with Mail for sending mail messages.
Is there a way (download/patch/etc) to have ichat interface with entourage? Otherwise, do I have to set up at least 1 mail account on Mail (which would also be set up in Entourage) to allow it work with ichat?
Thanks for any help!

I assume you're getting to mail via the Services menu.
Mac help has this:
"Mac OS X includes the Mail application, which you can use to send and receive email messages. To learn more, open Mail, then choose Help > Mail Help.
If you want to use a different email application, specify your default email application in Mail Preferences. Choose Mail > Preferences, click General, and choose the application you want to use from the Default Email Reader pop-up menu."

  • Can two peeps use iChat with different accounts on the same computer?

What do I do to REMOVE an old AIM account and replace it with a new account in IChat?
Can two peeps use iChat with different accounts in the same computer?
(Actually, two people share a laptop, but one of us cannot use her AIM account cuz mine is in iChat already... And, when traveling, I have the computer - and I would like to use iChat on the computer...)

In iChat 4 you can have more than one AIM Valid name logged in at once.
AIM valid = AIM, @mac.com or a MobileMe name.
What you are then stuck with is that iChat is linked to one Buddy Picture and The one Mac User Account's Address Book which may or may not have Full Names, emails details, or a Nickname in iChat 4 linked to the Screen Names.
Whilst it does let you both log in whilst using one Mac User Account there are drawbacks about who uses the keyboard and reading meesages from the other persons Buddies.

  • I want to Use iChat with Skype to Videoconference several people

I want to video conference in my niece in New Zealand (PC using Skype) with iChat and the rest of my Mac family stateside.
I have Skype for Mac running and I have the iChat AV running. Any chance to hook in the Skype User with the iChat multi-pane video conference?
It looks like iChat only accepts iChat and AIM but not Skype. My niece apparently cannot get AIM in New Zealand.
Any clever help would be appreciated.

I want to use iChat for Skype as well. I want one chat client for all my communications. That was the point of iChat in the beginning, wasn't it? Hopefully, Apple will jump on the ball and support the best way for us common folk to communicate internationally. The supported Aim when they were king, why not the new king?
I stinks that I can not use the great app, because one no Skype but two I don't know anyone else that uses .mac.

  • Using iChat with Google Gmail address

I have a Google Gmail address. So I had my sister create one of her own. She told me what that address was and I added her to the Buddy List, no issues there. I also added my Gmail account under iChat - Preferences - Accounts. I can see that I am available. So can my sister, she sees me on her Buddy List. And I can see her on my Buddy List. So far everything looks like it should just work fine. But when she attempts to invite me to a video chat, I get the popup window from her asking if I want to accept her invite, so I click on Accept. But then it gets hung up on the spinning circle, waiting for her to connect. It will not and just hangs. So I have to simply close the window. I then try and invite her to a video chat, but she for some reason, does NOT see my invite popup window. So I had her check and recheck the settings in iChat - Preferences - Accounts. It matches to what I have set on mine. But I am still wondering why we cannot connect. The only thing we can do is text chat. Am I missing some little detail that I just cannot see ???? I have iChat version 5.0 - Snow Leopard. She has Leopard, I am thinking its version 4 for hers. Please any suggestions will help. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
So Mac to Mac. (and yes iChat 4 and iChat 5 as stated)
Google ID to Google ID which both can see and presumably Text chat.
This leave the Video and Audio Port along with the Visible Invite port.
The Visible Invite port seems to work.
Or rather calling out on your sister's end gives you the pop up but she is not getting your response.
She on the other hand can not get your Visible Invite.
I would start with checking on the Leopard end that her System Preferences > Sharing does not have Internet Sharing turned On.
This is an issue for iChat 4.x.x
Both ends should also check the Mac OS Firewall
    System Preferences > Security Sharing.
In Leopard Allow All is the Firewall Off
Allow Specifics and Allow All will work for iChat but it has to be added to the list if Specifics is used (iChat is NOT an Essential app so that will not do).
In Snow Leopard if the Firewall is ON go to the Advanced Button and Enable Allow Signed apps and add iChat to the List.
Next check your Routing device's settings.
Use UPnP (Universal Plug and play) where you can to allow the ports to be used.
Most will let you call out but not allow things back if the ports are not opened here.
If you have a modem that routes and a router only one should be doing DHCP to the LAN.

  • Can you use ichat with facetime

I have an iphone4 and would like to be able to call home using facetime to chat with my kids. But we do not have 2 iphones. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Face Time uses Phone Numbers or Apple IDs registered with Face Time to make contact
iChat uses AIM Names (Those valid with AIM) or Jabber name  (including GoogleMail IDs) to make contact (Basically Names registered with Certain IM servers)
iChat cannot contact the Face Time servers so  Face Time names cannot be added to any iChat Buddy List.
    NOTES.
A MobileMe  name ending in @me.com has several  functions:-
Obviously it is a working e-mail.
It is an Apple ID (iTunes, Logging in to Communities (once you set up an Alias), On Line Store, MacApp store and Face Time (if Linked)
It is a valid AIM Screen Name (If the password is 16 characters or less).
@Mac.com names have similar Functions less the e-mail part.
Other Apple IDs created from using an external to Apple e-mail address are not Valid AIM Names. Well at least not by just being Apple IDs  (you can link an E-mail to a AIM Name registration or use the e-mail itself as a separate action).

  • Using iChat with PC users

    Hi.
I'm very new to this game, love the iChat AV but have only been able to chat with one other Mac user. Other family members use PCs and I'd love to connect with them too but don't know how to go about it.
What's need for compatibility? And what's an AIM account?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Check this out as well. It is Universal Binary for the new Intel Mac's, and also available for PC. I use it to chat with PC friends all the time. The free account allows 1-on-1 video conversation.

  • Using ichat with a google mail login

I've followed the following procedure to set up my ichat to work with a google log in: http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=24076
I'm told it works. However I keep getting a 'Could not connect to Jabber' error message.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Ok,
Go to iChat (the Menu at the top) > Preferences > Accounts
    Select the Gmail entry.
Go to Server Settings on the right
Apart from your name what do all the boxes on all the options read.
It's the third and fourth pictures here where it says the Server is GoogleTalk that is normally the problem.
Also check the port says 5223.
Now in the Mac Firewall If ON
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall tab you should either add the Jabber ports to any iChat setting you have made (TCP 5220, 5222, 5223) or add a separate Jabber entry.
If your Modem or router is doing UPnP then you do not have to worry about that.
If it only has port forwarding then those same ports need to be entered and pointed to the IP your computer has.
On the Firefox front you can use Safari > Preferences to change the default browser.
It will have nothing to do with the Jabber/GoogleTalk part of IChat.

  • Using Automator with Entourage

I need to BCC myself on every message I sent through the Entourage. Is there a way to do this with Automator?
    Thank you.

Thank you, I already looked at that site earlier. Basically, I have 2 iMacs in different locations and need to keep the Entourage email synchronized. Because of the nature of my job I often need to go back and search the emails I sent out. Basically I need to keep the information on who the email was sent to because that helps me a lot during the searches. When I set a "Redirect" or "Forward" rule it shows an email was sent from me to me, not from me to a client. When I save copies in the Sent folder, it doesn't show up on my other computer. The way I thought I'd get around it is when I BCC myself so I actually "receive" a copy of that message, and then set up a rule to mark messages coming to me from me as unread and file them in the Sent folder automatically. It works rather well, but I need to remember to BCC myself, which is why I look for automation. I tried the BCC (or CC) script for outgoing mail as well, but Entourage executes the script only after the message is sent, not as it is being created.
I tried using the "Mail" application, but for one I wasn't able to use aliases for our POP email, which we use on daily basis, and also it seems to synchronize only the .mail account, not the work account...
    Thank you.

  • Using iPhoto with Entourage

I'm sure this sounds so simple but how do I attach a number of photos from iphoto to send in an email using entourage?
I can email a single photo out of iphoto using entourage but I can't figure out how to include more than one in an email.
    I sure would appreciate advice.
    Thanks
    Deb

Hey there. When you choose the photos for output to your email program there is a dialog window that asks you about what size you want to export the files. There are two checkboxes. One is to include the title, and the other is to include the comments. It will incorporate these in the message body. If you export to Apple's Mail client, these titles and comments appear above each photo. Unfortunately it does not appear that Entourage formats the outgoing message in this manner. HOWEVER the actual title and comments will appear in your note body. Unfortunately, the title you assign is NOT the same as the filename, which is what you see in the attachments.

  • Using iChat with AOL.

My ISP is AOL. Now that I have Tiger, I can't log onto iChat using my AIM screen name. It gives me the following error message
"A connection already exists from your computer’s IP address. Only one connection per IP address is allowed."
Is there any way to get around this that anyone knows of? Also, how come I never had this problem when i had Panther? It's not making any sense to me. PLEASE HELP!

I remember seeing that. But there is a setting you can choose that allows multiple logins. I was fine after I selected that. In my case I usually have AOL open on the desktop and open iChat also to see who has a camera next to their name. That solved the problem for me.

  • Can I use iChat with Apple TV?

I bought an Apple TV thinking I would be able to video conference with my Grandson. I don't know how to set this up.
    Thanks for your help.

I was hoping I would be able to view the "chat" on our TV via Apple TV. So I won't be able to do this?

  • Have been using iChat with no problem, now it won't work.
