Using imac manotio with wii or ps3

Hi all,
I have an imac 24" and i have wii and ps3.
Which device can I use to connect my imac monitor to these console?
I saw on the web the Elgato Hybrid device, but isn't the right solution for ps3.
Best regards...

I too have a ps3 and wanted to use it as a media hub for music and pics from my imac. I use "MediaLink" from nullriver (www.nullriver.com/)and so far work pretty good. The only thing I have an issue with is sometimes the video streaming from say a download from i-tunes will start and stop. You should search the playstation 3 forums for more options. Hope this helps some.

  • Imac 24" with wii and ps3

I'm looking at getting the new 24" imac.
    Questions:
    1. is it possible to run a wii and ps3 through the imac without additional hardware?
    2. If not, is it best to use a hd scaler like the gefen hd mate scaler to connect the devices to the imac or are there alternatives?
    3. will the imac display give good reproduction of HD media (ie blu ray through the ps3)?
I'm aware of the elgato eyetv solution but want to avoid the tv route to avoid paying the tv licence fee (don't have a tv or any real desire to get one if I can otherwise spend the licensing fee on a better specced machine).

    Hello,
There is no video input on the iMac. I've never seen anything but Standard Defintion video input devices via USB/Firewire (the HD input devices are PCI cards), they are also generally more expensive than the Elgato TV Tuners. I would have said that the cost of an ADC to give you the video-in is a significant chunk out of a getting a seperate HD TV, but then you don't want to have a tuner in the house because you'd have trouble convincing the TV license people it's not in use.
So my wild card answer is take a look at a 24" display with HDMI and DVI. You can connect it to the iMac via DVI as a second display and it's HDMI in port will allow you to play the PS3 on it:
Example (This is a TN panel hence the price. The S-IPS version is somewhat more.)

    Hi,
Please give this a try: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
    Thanks,

If you own any verson of iPhoto '11 then there is a free update to version 9.5.x in the App store
If you own a previous version of iPhto (iPhoto '09 or earlier) then as always an upgrade to a new version (in this case iPhoto '11) is a paid upgrade and you purchase it in the App store
and no OS update/upgrade contains a version of iPhto - it is a seperate program and although it is included as part of every new Mac it is not a free program and never has been sinve version 1 or 2 (I forget when it changes)

you can get the canopus ADVC110 and plug in the yellow RGB cable into it, then plug the device via firewire 400 into your computer. then open up iMovie 09 and press import video, but don't record or anything. just play.

  • How can I get a video signal using IMAC 27 with only mini display port. I like to send the signal wireless to a TV using a TV/audio transmit system.

I have an IMAC 27 with a mini display port ( only this). I also have all the adapters ( mini display port to VGA, HDMI...).
Since I moved to UAE I like to transmit the signal frm my IMAC ( where I also look German TV on) to my TV. I will do so by using a wireless Transmit receive system with theree cinch inputs ( transmit system ( video, 2x voice).
The distance to the TV IS ABOUT 10m and one wall. I don`t want to use a cable.
Is there any solution for example mini display to VGA + VGA adapter to cinch so I can use the transmit system?
HDMI would also be an optiekn, bat then I have to by another Transmit receive system.
If somebody made already the experience I would appreciate to share the information
Is there may be any store in UAE where to get support. It is very diificult to get good advice here. They sell everything bat can not reaaly explain and have very often  no technical knowledge. With this problem nobody until now can help me.

I don't know what AppleTV can handle as far as bit rate is concerned, but increase the bit rate as high as it will let you. You are taking DV which is 25Mb/s and compressing it. If you're making an H.264, you should get great results needing no more than 6Mb/s. Bear in mind, the higher the bit rate, the larger the file size.

  • Can i use imac screen with another comp?

hi all - can i use my imac screen with my g4 powermac?
I like to run it but my old monitor is big and ugly - be nice to feed into my sexy g5 imac screen
advice - as ever - appreciated

I don't think so. You could use Remote Desktop, but it would be slow and annoying, and it costs more than a decent 19" ViewSonic.
But that would be nice. I'd love to run even my iMac G4 into my wife's iMac G5 screen.

  • Using iMac i7 with PS2/PS3?

    Hey there...
I have been told so many conflicting solutions about how to use my iMac as a display for my PS2 and PS3... Can anyone shed some light on what i need and/or programs to do this.
    Thanks
    TD

It's simple. To use the new 27-inch iMac in +target display mode+ (as a display for another device), the input must be from either a Mini DisplayPort or a regular DisplayPort. If the PS2/3 output is something like composite, component, or VGA, it will probably never work. If it is something digital, such as DVI or HDMI, it may work if you can find an adapter to convert it to DisplayPort (Mini or regular). Such adapters (if they exist for the output conversion needed) are expensive and have limitations, because the native resolution of the 27-inch iMac screen is so high (way above "1080p" and the 1920x1200 max for single-link DVI).
What may work better, at overall lower cost, is to use a USB interface device to get the video output from the PS2/3 to display on the iMac's screen. In that case, the iMac has control of the display, and the video from the PS2/3 is being displayed in a window. You can make the window as large as needed to show the input at its maximum resolution, or even use +full screen+ mode in the same way you use +full screen+ mode with DVD Player or iTunes. The most popular of such devices are from Miglia and Elgato; they are typically used to display and capture TV input on the iMac.

  • Using iMac 2011 with iPhone6

First, please let me know which community to post this to? I'm just making a wild guess.
Background: I have an iMac that was purchased in mid-2011. I currently am using Mtn Lion OS 10.8.5, but am preparing to upgrade to Yosemite. I then plan to buy an iPhone6. I will, of course, have the latest version of iOS on my phone. I have been eagerly awaiting this b/c I do not have a smartphone. (No snickering, please.) From what I can tell from reading online, there are features that I will not be able to use, such as Handoff, Instant Hotspot, and Airdrop (Mac<->iPhone) because my Mac is not a 2012 or newer.
Question: Now I'm not sure which features will be available. For example, will I be able to answer phone calls on my Mac if my iPhone is in another room? Use SMS?
Question: Will using iCloud make any difference re available features?
Question: Is there really any advantage to upgrading to Yosemite (or Mavericks) if I don't buy an iPhone?

    Hi dazed,
The use of your Mac to answer phone calls and conduct text messaging via your iPhone is called Continuity. System requirements for this feature would exclude your iMac, as they require an iMac Late 2012 and later. See this article -
System requirements for Continuity on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support
iCloud, of course, is available for the iMac that you have now and for any new iPhone. Features available using iCloud can be found here -
Apple - iCloud - Everything you love, everywhere you go.
Whether upgrading your iMac's operating system would be useful to you is really only something you can decide, but there are a number of new features and improvements that do not involve it's use with an iPhone. See this page for more information -
Apple - OS X Yosemite - See everything the new OS X can do.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Using iMac G4 with airport

I have an imac g4 - the kind that has the display sitting on top of the dome-shaped hard drive. I am finally getting an airport base station and switching my other two laptops over to wireless. Do I need a card or something to get my imac (which I think did not ship with wireless capability) to work with the airport? Thanks.
    imac G4 desktop   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Personally I use a 3rd Party (Belkin) Wireless Router (rather than Apple's Base Station) and I use a Ethernet cable (which was bundled with my router (but they cost only about £2)) to connect to it rather than an Airport connection. So if you are able to locate the base station next to/near the iMac then you could save yourself the cost of an Airport card (which especially for an Original Airport card is significant).
This isn't possible if you get the Airport Express as it doesn't have a LAN port.
Depending on your needs you could save quite a few $$$ by looking at the non-Apple option.

  • Bought a used iMac G5 with no OS - Need Help!

    Hello,
I recently bought an iMac G5. Specs:
    1.8 GHz, 1024 mb, 80 GB, CD-RW, DVD-RW
    Has keyboard and mouse
but it has no operating system installed. I was hoping I might be able to install OS X 10.4.11 from my old macbook, however I don't know enough about computers to figure this out.
Can anyone give me some direction? Do I need to buy a new OS? If so, which one? Do you know of a good place to get a decent deal on it?
Thank you for any help you can give me!

I'm afraid install discs are machine specific, you need to contact Apple and get the install discs for your iMac - 800-767-2775 and they'll send them to you for a modest fee. You can also try using a retail version of Tiger, which has a black label. Anything with a grey label is machine specific and won't work.

  • Using iMac display with a second computer

    Hi,
Is it possible to plug in a PC's video output into the iMac and use it as a temporary display? My idea is to use the iMac but be able to switch to my PC without needing 2 monitors on my desk - just the iMac display. Is this possible?

    Ah, cheers for the info.
Do you reckon this could work - http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx
Basically, I just want to use the hardware on my PC for doing 3D modelling in Maya 2008 and 3ds Max (Not supported in Leopard, and the graphics card in my PC is far superior to the one in the iMac), but only have one display on my desk - the iMac, which I'll be using for everything else.

  • Using iMac WiFi with iPad

I have an iPad, and connect to the internet through my verizon router. I would like to connect through my iMac's WiFi. I'm not sure how to set this up. Can anyone help me? I'm not a computer pro by any stretch of the imagination, so if you could keep it really simple, I would be a happy camper. Thanks in advance.

I used that method for a few weeks when I first got my iPad. I got a really strong signal too. I could walk 150 ft away in the yard, and I was still connected. But it got to be a pain because every time I went to use my iPad, I had to wake my iMac from sleep. Then I found out that Comcast gives away free wifi routers to its cable/internet customers, and that's turned out to be much more convenient, though the iMac's wifi signal definitely goes further than the Netgear's. *I have a lot of security on my Netgear, so if I have visitors who want wifi, instead of going through the trouble of getting their device hooked up to my Netgear wifi, I just turn on the iMac's wifi and they're good to go instantly.* It's great as a temporary backup.
Am I understanding you correctly that you don't use your router's wifi connection because it is secure and you do let others use your Mac's wifi connection because it is insecure? I would want my Mac wifi secure so that others, including neighbours and those in proximity at hotels, airports, etc could not connect using my Mac.
IMHO using the router's wifi is better than using the Mac's wifi for sharing the Internet. The router is specifically designed to do that while the Mac is designed to also include the sharing capability but sharing is not the Mac's main function. And, why use your Mac;s processing power, turn it on, manage it just to share a connection?
You might want to set up a "guest" connection in your router if you want to allow insecure connections to the Internet rather than setting up an insecure connection through your Mac.

  • IMac 27" with display-port pc

    Hello all!
I'm thinking about buying a used iMac 27" with the following specs:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    iMac10,1
    3,06 GHz
    4 GB
I'm guessing this is the late 2009 model?
I really want to use this as a monitor for a new desktop I'm building. My question is; will it work with every pc that has graphics card with display-port ?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Message was edited by: iTim

Yes, the 10,1 is a late 2009 model. If it will work depends on whether the pc graphics card will supply Mini DisplayPort compliant signals.
Here is some information on using the 27" iMac in Target Display mode:

    Hope this helps.
