Using imac on someone else's internet connection

Hi all,
This is probably an easy question for someone, so it'll probably be quicker than me tying to figure it out. I just moved into a suite and the landlord is letting me use their wireless internet. I've connected fine with my pc laptop (on WPA, they gave me the password) but am wondering how to do the same on my intel imac (2.4)...I also have an airport extreme, do I need to use that?
Thanks!

Make sure AirPort is turned ON on the iMac. You can do this from the AirPort icon on the menu bar, or in System Preferences Network pane (select AirPort in sidebar). That's also where you set it to +Show AirPort status in menu bar+, which you should check if it is not.
Select the AirPort icon in the menu bar. Select the wireless network from the list. In the window that pops up, provide password. That should be it, unless there are some unusual settings being used.

Do I need to be online to access my desktop apps?
No, the desktop applications in Creative Cloud, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, are installed directly on your computer, so you don’t need an ongoing Internet connection to use them.
An Internet connection is required the first time you install and license your apps, but you can use the apps in offline mode with a valid software license. The desktop apps will attempt to validate your software licenses every 30 days.
Annual members can use the apps for up to 99 days in offline mode. Month-to-month members can use the software for up to 30 days in offline mode.

    Hi AKKY79,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  You can sign out of the iTunes Store and sign in as your own account by following these instructions:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Manage your iTunes Store account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12507
Choose Store > Sign In (or Sign Out).
If the Store menu does not appear, you can turn on iTunes menus as described here:

  • Embedding (not linking) videos in keynote, Then exporting as Powerpoint (mostly PC users) so they can use from a jumpdrive without needing internet connection.  Instructions/tips on how to accomplish This?

I'd love your advice/guidance!!  I need to embed (not link) videos in a Powerpoint doc so that anyone (mostly PC users)can open and use from a jumpdrive without needing internet connection. I was considering using keynote and exporting as a PPT.
Or is there a way to do this in a newer version of Powerpoint? (i'd rather stick with keynote) what would that be the best option?
Any Instructions/tips on how to accomplish this? Thank you in advance for taking the time!

  • Can I use a airport express to get internet connection to a Mac Mini that doesn't have wireless by adding it to my existing wireless network?

I bought a first gen Mac Mini for our daughter and it doesn't have internal airport adapter and was wondering if I got a airport express can I plug it in my daughters room and use it as a local router and just use the eithernet connect from it.  Or would a airport extreme work better for this job.  I have a wireless cable modem that we connect to.  I also have a second question I have a iMac G4 that picks up the wireless signal but will not connect to it does it have to be a Apple airport for it to work or should it be able to connect to any broadcasted signal.  Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure I quite understand. Do you wish to use the AEX to provide a wireless connection for a device that has an Ethernet port but no wireless capability of its own? You wish to use it in place of a wireless card that isn't internally installed? If so, the answer is, "Yes." It will work as a wireless access point. But you must have an extant wireless network because the AEX won't have an Internet connection when used in this way.
If you have an existing wireless network with a wireless router connected to your cable/DSL model or your modem is a wireless router as well, then the AEX may connect to it in bridge mode. Note that AEXs don't always play nice with non-Apple routers. Some work; others don't.

  • Can I use Apple TV on network without internet connection?

I'm helping someone who has an Apple TV (version1) and their router and internet connection is down.  We need to use the AppleTV today to stream a video from her mac to the TV connected to the Apple TV for a presentation.  Can we just hook up the Mac and the AppleTV to a switch via Ethernet (or connnect wirelessly to an AirPort Base station) and stream the video without being connected to the internet?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't just use a switch, but you can use a router or wifi access point without access to the internet, but you will need a DHCP server to give each device on the network an IP address.
You may also be able to connect the Mac and Apple TV directly with an ethernet cable, I've tested this with the Apple TV 1, but not with the Apple TV 2.

  • I received an email saying my iphone is disabled from icloud. I don't have an  iphone I have an ipad tho. What does this mean? Is someone else's iphone connected with me?

I Received an email on my ipad saying my iphone is disabled from icloud. I don't have an iphone. Does this mean someone else is connected to my icloud or ipad?

    Hi Ceecee,
Find My iPhone is a generic term that is used for this feature regardless of whether it is turned on on an iPad or an iPhone.
If you deleted your iCloud account on your iPad, and have not signed back on to iCloud, then the Find My iPhone feature is turned off, and your device is not protected nor can it be tracked if it is stolen.
Sign back into iCloud on your iPad, and go to Settings>iCloud to turn Find My iPhone back on to remedy this situation, if you wish.

  • IMac 500 mhz powerpc G3 - Internet connection slow, how do I fix?

So here it goes, I am pretty much a clueless newbie as far as the computer goes. But I have this much worked out. I am running a iMac G3 500 mhz powerPC (Thanks!, about this mac) with 512 kb of L2 cache, 100 mhz bus speed and 128 MB SDRAM on OS 10.3.9, and I have a wireless card installed that has firmware version 9.52, which I am using to connect to the internet through an apple airport, connected to a Motorola Surfboard SB5120 Cable modem.
Now when I am on the iMac the internet feels like dial up, I can literally stop to read magazine articles while I wait for the internet to load pages. But on the other computer a g4 apple powerbook (silver), it is quick and snappy. Both of these computers use the same airport and modem to connect.
What Can I do to the iMac to bring the speed up?

Tom's right. a G3 is a G3... but bump that RAM up even to 384 would be better. You "could" go up to 1GB, but it's up to you to decide the cost effectiveness of that. At OWC to could get 2x256 for about about $50 or 2x512 for for about $140... so the difference is pretty big. But I know the pricing is pretty competitve and you might find the 512's cheaper.
    Good luck!

  • Using HP ePrint with mobile phone internet connection

Hello, I have a peculiar problem.
I have an HP Officejet 4630 e-All-in-One series printer and I want to set up HP ePrint.
I have internet connection for my laptop computer, which is the computer I use. It too is a HP. To set up your HP ePrint account you need the printer's code number which can be printed from the printer's control panel. Once you have the printer code, you can then enter it in to your account to add your device. My problem is that my interent connection is the mobile phone which I use to connect my laptop to the internet. The printer is then connected to the computer using either the direct wireless feature or using the supplied USB cable. Because of this, I can't obtain the printer's code, from the printer's control panel. I do not use landline internet connection as the mobile phone is used as a modem.
    What do I do?????????
Can I just phone technical support and ask them to email my printer code??????
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
No, this is not going to work and WON'T work at all. Your printer MUST be connected to the internet to allow ePrint to work. No point to send an email to printer and it is NOT there.

  • Test in Browser uses my local PC not my Internet Connection

When I us the little World button ("Preview/Debug in

So, you have Apache installed on your PC, right? Then you
    need to set up a
Testing server that points to the correct location on your
    PC. What is the
    path to the Apache root?

  • Old iPhone 4 I would like to use as an iPod. Lost Internet connection when I up graded to new 6. How can I get the old one on the Internet?

I Would like to re-purpose my iPhone 4 and use it as an iPod. I cannot hook it to the Internet. Any suggestions?

You won't be able to use cell data anymore you will have to connect it to WiFi. If it is not working at all leave the SIM in the phone and Restore it in iTunes.

  • Used IMac G5 - no airport or wireless connection

    Hi All
I have just purchased a 2nd IMac which was 2nd hand. The seller said it had airport but im quite sure now that it is home that it doesnt.
How can i get a wireless card for this (Mac?) and can they be fitted to this computer.
I have an old wireless modem/router can i use this to connect to the network?
    Any help appreciated.
    Troy

+I have an old wireless modem/router can i use this to connect to the network?+
You would need to get into the documentation for the older router to learn whether it might allow this type of setup. If you could get us the make and model number, another user who has already done this may be able to help.
A new AirPort Express 802.11n could also be configured to "join" your current wireless network and provide an ethernet signal.
Another option would be to use a USB wireless adapter to receive the wireless signal.
Since you probably do not want to run an ethernet cable from your current router to the iMac, you would also have the option to use a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to provide an ethernet signal to the iMac. This might be the best solution of all, performance wise, as you will avoid having to use wireless.
