Using iMessage with my phone number

Hey guys, im trying to imessage my friend in the US from Australia, because texting normally is costing too much. However i couldnt imessage this morning and reset my network settings, now under send and receive its got my @live address and @icloud, but my number is greyed out so I cant select it.
Any advice on how to fix this?

If I'm correct, as long as someone is logged into your Apple ID, they can receive your messages. If you think someone else is using your Apple ID, change your password.

My dad has an upgrade with his phone number, can I preorder the iPhone 5s with his number and use it with my phone number?

I want to preorder the iPhone 5s. My personal phone number is not eligible for an upgrade yet, but my day's phone number is. He says that I can use his upgrade. On September 20, 2013 when the online preorder begins, am I able to preorder a phone for myself with my dads number and use it with my own number? How does it all work?

Most carriers will allow you to swap phones between numbers without a problem. Swapping will not change the contract on the number that the phone was ordered for. Nor will it affect eligibility for future upgrades. Of course the "swap" will normally need to be done with phones on the same carrier and is probably easier to do when on the same account.
I do this every year, or rather every other year. I am the techie, my wife not so much. So when the new iPhone comes out, I get it for which ever number is eligible for upgrade and have it activated to my number and then activitate my old phone to her number. I usually go to the phone company store (AT&T in my case) as they have new sims on hand and usually need to use at least one.

You wont be able to install the latest version of iTunes on this iBook.

Using iMessage after changed phone number

I have recently changed my phone number (i am still using iPhone 4 with the new ios7.4), and my iMessage and facetime stop working, I have tried to restart the phone and signed in again with my apple ID, initially it detected the new phone number, but when iMessage turned on, it changed back to the old number again, I have tried turn on and off iMessage, turn and off iphone but it still doesnt work, is there anything I need to do specifically to ensure my iPhone recognised my new number?

it is possible here in Austria to merge 2 phone number on 1 sim card, so there i have A as main number and B as sub-number.
right now, i'm having only company number in the list at iMessage and my private number is gone. Is it possible, to enter my private number there manually?

How do you send an iMessage with my phone number, not an email address

Ever since I have had this iPhone on pay as you go with Vodafone in September, I have not had an option to use my phone number, it doesn't bother me as such but my friends get annoyed as one hour I'd reply on text as their contact and the next it will use iMessage when I have Internet as my apple Id email address. How do I do this!!!!

There is no option, just emails. I signed out of apple Id and signed back in, it asked me to use either my number of email so I deselected my email but the phone number was greyed out, it hasn't activated again so I don't think it has worked.

First, log out of everything including home sharing, imessage, facetime and appstore. Turn on airplane mode for a few seconds and retry turning on imessage.
You can also try instead of airplane mode you can turn off your phone instead then retry imessage.

So what I had to do was sign out of messages and facetime on all of my mobile devices. Then I started signing back in on my phone and then iPad. If it isn't from something you did (like update iOS on an iPhone, or activate a new iPhone), then yes, I would be suspicious.

How do I fix my iMessage to work with my phone number?

Two days ago, my iMessage randomly decided to stop working. I am abroad in Asia right now so I have been using iMessage to keep in touch with friends and family at home (US) when I am connected through wifi.
My issue is that under the "Send and Recieve" in the iMessage settings, my phone number is not listed. Originally, it was greyed out and not selected but after going to an Apple store here and rebooting the settings, the phone number disappeared all together. I have turned off/on wifi, airplane mode, imessage, facetime, date/time, etc. I know the Apple ID is registered with my phone number because when I choose to sign out of my Apple ID and the sign back in under the iMessage settings, my phone number and email are selected to be used. But when I click Next, only my email is shown.
I will be abroad at least a few more weeks and would really like for it to work here again. I'm afraid it won't work when I'm back in the US as well. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Correct, my cellular data is currently off. I don't think this will solve my problem because I was able to use iMessage before without my data and only on wifi. If nothing else works, I will try this. But I would like to try to find a solution that doesn't require me using data.

Okay, so I lost my phone and i deleted everything on it via findmyiphone because i didn't have a password, well i recovered it and restored it from my last backup, my iMessage stopped working with my phone number and only works with my email. I've tried turning off and on imessage, shutting it off and on again, even resetting it, still nothing. any ideas on how to help?

You may need to unlink, then relink your phone number with your Apple ID.
