Using iMovie 11. Publishing a project to iTunes

Using iMovie 11. Publishing a project to iTunes places a file in a folder titled "iTunes" within a folder titled "iMovie Sharing" in my "Movies" folder on my HD. Can I change this location by default? I would like the file to be on an external HD to free up space on my HD

So I'm not sure how to answer myself if I discover the answer. I'll just post a reply - if that's incorrect just let me know.

Just delete the project in the iTunes/Apps/Sharing pane.
Once you have saved the file off, you can delete it from the Sharing Pane.
IMovie uses an internal area to save the project it edits, so the project in the sharing pane is a duplicate as you say.
You can only delete this file in iTunes though.

Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP! Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process. Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal. No flashing yellow screen anymore!!

When I got the error, I realized it had nothing to do with RAM, I believe it was the camera footage I was using because changed the settings on my camcorder to something iMovie didn't like. So I have changed it back and its fine now.

I have been successfully using iMovie 11 since it came out and recently prepared projects successfully. I opened the program this morning and when I tried to pull up iTune songs and IPhoto images it tells me to open both programs. Still no images or

I have using iMovie 11 since it came out successfully and did my last project successfully on Monday, July 9. When I opened it yesterday July 11, the projects came up, but I could not access iTunes or IPhoto tunes or images. I tells me to open those programs, which I have, but it still tells me to open them. My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
• Camera
• External hard disk
• USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?

I'm done editting my video and i have tried all sort to export it( share- media browser, facebook, export, etc) but it keeps on giving this " unable to prepare for publishing - the project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (-50)".

iTunes use to give me problems - so I do instead
In iTunes I do
- collect all needed audio into a New PlayList
- burn this as a standard Audio-CD (NOT .mp3 - only as .aiff)
- use the files on this CD in my movie projects
I have near to Zero problem with audio in my movie projects iMovie or FinalCut - I only use .aiff

Using iMovie to save project files to external hard drive?

I have a MacBook Pro with very limited space on the internal hard disk drive. I also have a few FireWire external hard drives.
A friend recently gave me his Hitachi DZ-HS300A mini-DVD camcorder so I could copy footage off of it, load it into my machine, edit it and upload it (several minutes) to YouTube. He can't do this because he lives in a remote area where there is no broadband yet.
I almost never use iMovie. I was wondering if there is a way to save the project file to an external FireWire drive so that there will be no large video files clogging up my laptop's internal hard drive. Can this be done? Is there an iMove preference I have to change?

You should generally leave the iMovie Project file on the boot drive. The Project File is mainly a small text file with in and out points.
The iMovie Event file is where the video assets are stored. You can store events to an external hard drive in two ways:
1) As you import from the camera, you will see an import screen. You can select the external drive on the import screen
2) If the event is already on your internal drive, you can click View/Events By Volume. Now you can drag and drop the event to the external drive in the Events SOurce List in iMovie.
For your external drive to be visible to iMovie, it must be formatted HFS+ or HFS+ (journalled).

You can do this - by not doing it the way You describe as it will not work.
a. the external hard disk - MUST BE - Mac OS extended (hfs) formatted -
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - will work for most things - BUT NOT FOR VIDEO (iMovie, iDVD or FinalCut doesn't matter)
b. Do not alter or move any folder named
• iMovie Event's - or -
• iMovie Project's
on DeskTop/Finder - at all
All moving's of Events and Projects must be done within the iMovie Application - then connections will not break.
(move them back and see if iMovie remembers them - then do move as described above)

I called Apple under my Mac support contract. They were completely unfamiliar with the error you and I were encountering. Updating to 10.8.5 didn't help.
I'm stopping my TimeCapsule while I perform these tasks, but I don't know yet if I have a consistent work-around.

It may mean you either your Event or your Project. Have you moved any of the files in the Finder by any chance? That error may come up if you moved anything outside of iMovie. Do you get an error message when you choose Share>Export to iMovie (choose medium size) and save it to the Desktop? If you can export it to the desktop, you can pull that file into iDVD separately and still make it work.

The slightly bigger question is whether you want to move all movie content to the external drive (essentially meaning that drive will always need to be attached when you're working with your videos), or whether you just want to archive older videos off to the external drive.
If you want to move all videos, then just move the 'Movies' folder in your home directory to the external drive, then create an alias of the external 'Movies' back in to your home directory. Now the 'Movies' icon in your home directory will point to the external drive and everything will just work (as long as the external drive is attached when you launch iMovie)
If you want to archive older movies then each Movie should have its own subdirectory within your Movies folder. These can easily be moved off to the external drive, and moved back should you ever need to work on those movies again.

IMovie on iOS 8 crashes whenever I try to export the video project to iTunes

I need to transfer several iMovie projects from iPad to iMac to free lots of disk space.
But whenever I atempt to export an iMovie project to iTunes, the iMovie iOS app crashes.
Is there any other way how to transfer the project file?
