hi,i have recorded 1h video clip.transfer to imovie ,when i done few corection i want to transfer to dvd but it comes to 10gb.please can you tell me how i can squeeze 1h clip from 10gb to 4.7gb . Thank you

That is what iDVD does: compresses the video file to the DVD standard format of mpeg2.
iDVD does not care about file size, only file length:

Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced two-pass technology to encode your video (The first pass determines which parts of the movie can be given greater compresson without quality loss and which parts can’t. The second pass then encodes those different parts accordingly) , resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

IMovie Export Settings to DVD

Would someone be able to let me know what the best settings are for exporting to DVD from iMovie 08 to iDVD?
Is it best to publish or export as a quicktime movie .mov/.dv. The reason being is I am finding that when i publish the quality of the DVD isnt that good and the file size seems rather low. Im shooting on Sony Handycams but also Sony HVR-Z1 so the quality should be good.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have such a problem with my Imovie project. Its true that I have IMac not a long time but I heard that the system is great. I bought it because of functions that have inside like Imovie. I made my first project in Imovie and I wanted to export it to dvd. What I get was an unacceptable (****) quality. I've made import movies from brand new FULL HD Sony camcorder so it should be increable quality like by HDMI cable conected directly to the FULL HD LCD TV. I'm talking about EXPORTING not IMPORTING movies because imported movies was a HD quality. The problems started when I tried to burn the project to DVD. The quality was unacceptable. May anyone help me with that PLEASE ??? ONES AGAIN MY QUESTION IS - HOW CAN I MAKE A HD OR DVD QUALITY MOVIE FROM IMOVIE PROJECT WHICH MOVIES FILS WAS DOWNLOADED FROM SONY FULL HD CAMCORDER ??? Using Imovie clip files on a pc

Hi
I used Imovie to log and capture from dvcam then i copied everything from the clips folder to dvd. the problem is my doesnt recognise the format.
Is there anyway i can use these on my pc?
I intend to use premier pro1.5 and i dont mind re-rendering them to a PC friendly format so any help would be appreicated.

Your iMovie clips are probably in DV Stream format, which is basically raw data straight from the camcorder. Here's some info:

You should probably go back into iMovie and export them properly, either to DVD or to QuickTime. If possible, choose a pretty high bit rate so you don't lose quality.

Using iMovie 4 files in iMovie 5

My old home movies were deteriorating so I imported them into iMovie 4 and I now have a 500 GB collection of old and somewhat disorganized movies. iMovie 5 has the ability to cut and paste between projects which would be very helpful, so I upgraded to iMovie 5.0. Now I read that projects should be completed with the original program.
What are the problems associated with using iMovie 5.0 on 4.0 projects?

The conversion from iMovie 4 to iMovie HD is usually successful, but it can encounter problems if the iMovie 4 project had features not supported by iMovie HD. If iMovie 4 clips were made by certain third-party iMovie plug-ins, for example, I can imagine that might cause problems.
If your iMovie 4 projects contain only unedited video clips, there should be no problems. Nonetheless, always make a backup before converting any project.
Tip: do a Save As after converting the iMovie 4 project to iMovie HD. That creates a true iMovie HD project, avoiding user issues often encountered with converted projects.
(Save As creates a true iMovie HD package, not the hybrid folder created when converting. It's too easy to get inside the hybrid, open the wrong project file, and mess up the project pretty badly.)

Is anybody out there using iMovie/iDvd to create Dvds from a digital camera

In a post yesterday I already described the problems I have with iLife.
But problems can be solved. My question is : Is anybody using iLife
to burn a dvd from the tape of a digi cam with titel and chapter markers
or is that not possible. No long descriptions necessary.

Yes. I'm stringing video clips from my digital camera together, with titles, to make into a chaptered DVD.
It's not going well. iDVD08 doesn't recognize the titles I put in in iMovie08. iMovie08 won't allow me to place chapter markers (that I've found--if there's a way, please correct me!), and won't allow me to export short movies any higher than Mobile resolution, even though it's made from the same clips as the 2 hour that did export at Large resolution. Are you having these problems as well? Where is your other post (I'm new to the forum)?

I have a mega (big) doubt. I have manually inserted the Figures from the figure folders. Now i need, fully automated. So How can I get the Figure path
Example :

now i checked, How many subFolders is there in "path", get the All Subfolders and check to the Article Name.
Example
Article Name == subFolder name then get the Files from the SubFolders(E://development/Figures/ChapterF/*.eps files").
now I paste the Document using to For Loop.
Please any one can suggest me, How can We get the Path in SDK.
Note:
Should I have to create the relative path by myself?
No method supplied in SDK to do this directly?

When a file is uploaded, the file name is also submitted. The path of the file is available only to the machine within the Local Machine security zone. The value property returns only the file name to machines outside the Local Machine security zone. See About URL Security Zones for more information on security zones.

is there any other way to get an input file from a local host aside from <input type="file"> tag?No. Not using just html.
You could always go into activex components, but thats different again.

IMovie export file type selection for iDVD

I'm manipulating "home movies" (old Hi8 & new flash HD) with intent to eventually burn DVD's for various family members (e.g., children & grandparents) using iDVD. I have been creating Projects then exporting as either Movie (Medium .m4v) or Quicktime (.mov).
What are the trade-offs for subsequent incorporation of these file types into iDVD? For example, is one of better quality - especially in light of all future source clips being AVCHD?

Thank you for the suggestions. My dilemma is HD storage. For example, one Project (~63 minutes) is derived from Hi8 .dv clip consuming 12.67GB. After export as .m4v the Project's resultant file is only 738.4MB, and I expect a QT .mov export to be ~2.74GB - both of which consume less space than the source file. I've ~40 Hi8 tapes to convert, plus am adding footage with my new camcorder. Therefore my plan, possibly flawed as I am new to all of this, is to import source Events, build Projects, export to best-mode for later iDVD, then delete the source Event and Project to save space. Otherwise I'll be out of space before I can capture all of my Hi8 content.
Your suggestion, whcih is greatly appreciated, would require me to start generating iDVD projects immediately for best quality - yet I hesitate because I want to build DVDs based on a comprehensive inventory of the old footage. Is there a best-quality export from iMovie for subsequent incorporation into iDVD?

Using a .WMV file in DVD Studio Pro

Hello All,
I'm so dangerously close to having this whole thing down, that the challenges are becoming excrutiatingly painful.
I've completed my edit.
I've exported my FCP edit to Quicktime.
I've downloaded Flip4Mac
I've exported a version of the FCP to a WMV file format.
Now I want to import both assets (QT and WMV) to DVD Studio Pro. I'm trying to make it so there are two seperate versions on the DVD.
As I attempt to link a button to the WMV file, I get the rainbow wheel turning, and it never stops.
So, I guess there are a few questions:
1. How can I force the rainbow wheel to quit. Until now, I've just shutoff the computer (not a good idea).
2. Is it possible to combine the QT and WMV files on the same DVD?
3. Am I totally confused?

She can't play it on her PC, nor can I at home.
Ussually it's a DVD player software matter. Windows Media Player is not intended for DVD playing. Did you use it when it failed? Try with the free and cross plataform VLC Player.

All,
Can someone explain the shortcomings of the following workflow to create a simple DVD with chapter markers?
1. Create each "chapter" as a separate project in FCP X.
2. Export each project using "Export project as QuickTime movie using current settings".
3. Import each QT movie into iMovie and place them into a single timeline in the desired order.
4. Add chapter markers at the start of each clip.
5. Choose Share>iDVD from within iMovie.
6. Choose desired templates, etc. then burn the DVD.
I have used this workflow successfully but want to make the best quality DVD possible and am concerned that I am making compromises with this method.

As long as you aren't "optimizing" the movie when importing into iMovie, I think you aren't doing anything to degrade quality prior to sharing with iDVD.
I've read on other threads that you can add chapter markers using garage band. you might give that a try, as it would let you use just one project and would save you time if you have a lot of chapters. Export the same way from FCPX (quicktime, use current project settings) but open in Garage Band instead. Place chapter markers, then share to iDVD.

You should know weak link in your workflow regarding quality is iDVD, because you have extremely little access the settings that actually control quality. iDVD might end up creating an excellent quality DVD, but without knowledge of bitrate and whether it is VBR multipass vs CBR, you can't be sure.
Unfortunately, there is really no low cost option I know of (other than iDVD) on the Mac for creating "the best quality DVD possible" that also gives you flexible authoring tools (e.g., templates, menus, etc).

How to Reduce/Save Large iMovie Imported File for DVD

8/24/2006. Question: I used a PYRO A/V to convert a 122 minute two hour videotape (made in 1989 Slow Speed with some camcorder then) from a good VCR to my iBook Mac G4 (2004. combo drive. 30 Gb free. OS 10.3.9 Also iLife 6 and the latest iMovie 6 and iDVD 6 apple downloads). The analog to digital file came out fine, except a few frames clipped off the first second of audio, but OK. Now then I have a file of 24.5 Gb. So I saved it from iMovie as QuickTime movie, which took half a day, ending up with a file of 536 mgs. But I want to save the clip as a 4.5 Gb file for a DVD. I have a LaCie external D2 Dual Layer DVD-/+RW Drive. When I go into SHARE, should I then go into at the bottom of the menu SHARE and use expert settings, and if so, then what settings?? I couldn't do what you suggested yet--for iDVD Themes . . . or iDVD--File--Save to Disc, because I have only 5.6 Gb free and it requires 7.9 or more (nor from iMovie thus either), but I'll try to move some files elsewhere to my external drive to free up my Hard Drive to do this. BUT Toast 7 video is saving the whole file--three parts 59 and 22 and 32 minutes, total 113 minutes. You opened these options for me. Many, many thanks and best wishes. Chuck

IMovie exported file location?

Where does iMovie store the file it creates when exporting to iDVD? I want to find it and delete it, but I don't know where it is. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

The normal default location is in the "namedstart-updrive > nameduseraccount > iMovie Events > named_event" folder.
2) Once I find it can I simply cut and past it to my external drive into a folder of my choice?

3) In the future do I simply copy my footage to the external drive and open iMovie to find/access it?
In the future, you should select the hard drive and name the event in the import window which opens as soon as you press the "Import" button.

Using Imovie 06 files in Imovie 8

Hello, I did an imovie file with Imovie06 but it is impossible to load it in I movie 08. It is as Imovie08 does not see it and is therefore unable to load it. Is there a way to have it visible from I movie 08?
And otherthing my I movie weight 23Go, can I keep it on my computer but with using less memory as I won't use it very often, or do I need to archive it on an external device (like CD or external hard drive)

hey there omy, Welcome to Discusssions.
try your iMovie 06 project into iMovie 08, in the iMovie 08 Discussion. as for the 23 GB movie project, it would be wise to consider getting an external firewire hard drive. i suggest a minimum 250 GB, as storage is getting cheaper all the time & you can put/keep several large movie projects there.
