Using iMovie to edit screen videos

I've recorded some nice screen videos at a resolution of 1280 x 800 and would love to edit them using iMovie. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to retain the resolution of the videos, iMovie tries to crop them or scale them to fit the available resolutions.
Other than the obvious option of using QuickTime Pro to edit the movies, any other suggestions?

So, help this old man make sure he has it straight...
1. get the camera connection kit,
2. import my movies & pictures from my Nikon camera via my sd card via the camera connection kit, to my iPad.
3. the pictures & movies will be "open-able" via iMovie and then i can edit these externally made movies/pictures on imove on my ipad
4. then save the movie i edited on ipad
5. export the new made movies to my computer via itunes.
Is that it? If thats it you will have earned yourself another 10 points for sure
Thank you regardless if my 1-5 is right. I appreciate it.

Ive even tried opening in itunes and copying from thier but they wont open in Itunes, no message or anything they simple just dont open. its strange because it does open in quicktime player.
please if anyone has any ideas that can help me please let me know XD thanks.

First problem: You're fine. The hotter it gets, the more the fans spin up. The computer is designed so that at max load, at max fan speed, it won't overheat (unless it's obstructed by something, e.g. sitting on your bed swallowed by a comforter). It's not the best thing to keep it that toasty for days at a time, but a couple hours at a time shouldn't be a problem.
Second problem: If something in the trash won't delete, just use Secure Empty Trash and it should be fine. Since .torrent files are quite small, it should only take a couple seconds.

Using iMovie 09, when downloading video from Samsung HMX- H106SN, the video image in iMovie is stretched. I see no obvious way to adjust this in iMovie.  When played on HDTV directly from camera using HDMI, the video image is fine.  Is this a compatibility issue? Anyone have an idea for a fix?
    Thnx, olive.c

Thanks guys! Appreciate the help. Unfortunately I'm just not getting the same quality/file size/performance that I'm getting from the traditional Apple TV export option.
I did however find what I think might even be a better solution for anyone using a mono wireless mic system like myself... use what's called a 3.5mm stereo jack to 3.5mm mono plug adapter. They're only like $5 and not only convert the audio so it comes out of both speakers, but this is probably a better option cause now in post production (iMovie) the other tracks like music etc... are still in stereo.
Here's a link to the adapter on Tiger Direct... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=93027 7&sku=C184-03174&srkey=3.5mm%20mono%20plug%20to%203.5mm%20stereo%20socket
    Hope this helps!

  • Anyone shoot music videos and use imovie to edit?

Hello all. I just recently bought a panasonic gs320. Its a consumer camcorder but has 3ccd and the video looks pretty good. I work with a friend who does music and I agreed to shoot some simple videos for him for youtube. I've never used imovie but I've been playing around with little clips I have of him. Now I would like to have him rap one of his songs. I have all of his music in itunes that I ripped from cd's he's given me. I should be able to go ahead and import the audio from itunes correct? Also, how difficult will it be to lay down the track and lock it in place, and add different shots of video and sync them together? For starters, he has a freestyle that he did that's about 2 minutes long. I just want to get him in a nice little setting and take different shots of him rapping. Then import the different shots in imovie and cut back and forth between different scenes. Kind of give that feeling like he had more than one camcorder filming him. Sorry for blabbing on, I just wanted to see if any of the board members have done anything like this.

    Hi
Well this can be done in iMovie HD 6 but not the tool I would use. Favour FinalCut Express.
Here You are much more free with multi video tracks (and audio).
    A. Use the CDs - don't use the iTune music. Using .aiff audio from a CD is so much
better and gives so much less problems.
    B. Recording Your friend several times playing same tune and from different angles,
close-up and establishing (full view) perspectives - gives You lot's to select from.
    C. Now You (at least I would) lay down the audio track first then You add clip after
clip till You built Your movie. Using in and out points is a pro way and it makes it
    easier to make adjustments.
WHY I favour FCE: In iMovie You can't fix the video clips regarding time and the
audio clips can only be pinned to the video clip above.
Very hard to keep the Cake stable. In FCE a clip stays where You set it.
No clip = black or silent (video or audio)
Cost - Yes but You get so much that I was amazed when I found out the power of it.

  • Using iMovie to Edit Videos Not Shot on the New iPad

Hello, I am looking to buy an iPad (the new iPad) & I do a lot of traveling & video editing. In iMovie or the iPad can I import pictures & videos taken on my Nikon Coolpix (generic SD camera) and then edit the videos on the iPad like you can on a Macbook or PC? I am going to be traveling for 6 weeks & do not want to have to take a laptop with me so thought I could get an iPad & upload my videos/pictures to my iPad & edit them there and then upload the videos onto the internet. Also, if I make a movie on my iPad with iMovie can I export those movies to my normal computer? Do they save in "Videos" or something? If anyone has any experience or any advice I would gladly appreciate it and have a beer for you while I travel around.
    Thank you

  • Can I use iMovie to edit and enhance both video and audio of my homemade DVDs?

I have a lot of homemade DVDs converted from old VHS tapes. The video and audio quality need to be edited/enhanced. Can I use my iMovie 11 for this task? If not what are my options? Thanks.

    Hi
There are several layers to this Q
    • VHS-tapes has a low quiality as is
    • converted to sort of .mpe2 to a DVD to be played on standard DVD-player - Quality is futher lost
    • converting it back to DV or AIC - and more quality is lost
    • edit it in iMovie'08 to 11 - even more quality is lost due to that when going from Event's to Project's - every second line building up the picture is discarded (as non of them - iM'08 to 11 - works woith interlaced SD-video
So if quality is of any interest - I would - and are doing
    • Converting from VHS-tapes
    - via a CANOPUS ADVC-300 - to digital
    - in via FireWire to
    - to iMovie HD6 or FinalCut (any version) - asa they all keep 100% of the interlaced SD-quality
    - edit and put out on miniDV tape (still 100% preserved) or to a DVD made in iDVD with all that keep as high quality possibly. (No Video-DVD can keep 100% quality - it's due to standard and amount of compressing)
If Quality is of no importance - then
    • DVDs needs to be converted to DV or AIC and this is no free standard on any Mac - You need a converting program as
    - MPEG StreamClip (free on internet) + BUT it needs the .mpeg2 Component from Apple to work ($20)
    - Roxio Toast™ - can also be used to back engineer - BUT this cost's much more - still to me all extras was more than worth it
    - Analog way - DVD-player - A/D-box - import via FireWire

  • Can you use imovie's green screen feature to make things invisible?

    Hi,
i have a GoPro, and am making a mount that will give me a 3rd person view while i snowboard.
Like this: https://s3.amazonaws.com/ksr/assets/000/333/633/7ac3cbc3da3b7b2c948f36e6018ea460 _large.png?1357825021 (but home made)
However, the tube will be in video, it would be great if i could edit it out...
I was hoping that i could paint the arm of the mount green, and use the green screen function to edit it out in post. like the skate boards in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=654lUYIhYk0
I have looked around online, and it seems that the green screen function in iMovie sems limited to just backgrounds...
    Any advice?

    Excuse the delay in replying...
Excellent! - thanks for that xnav
It work even with the delay set to 0.0 on the iPhone Simulator, but not sure about on an iPhone though.
I think I need to read up about @selector and the performSelector instance method.
I found today another possible solution (but have not tried it out though):

  • Can I use imovie to download a video from youtube and then copy it to a dvd?

I need to download a video from youtube for church on Sunday and wondered if I can do it using the imovie app? If not, does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks!

just drag 'n drop your jpg and your mp3 into the timeline of your Project - done.
Depending on what version of iM you're using, you can directly upload from within iMovie, or you have to export first, then use YT's upload web interface ...
in case you own a licence of Quicktime Pro,  open a jpg with it, open in a 2nd window your mp3, select all, copy, paste to picture - done .. no 'fullsize editor' needed.

  • Can Anyone Help me Use iMovie to View a Video Mini-Camera

    Hello,
I have a simple tiny "mini camera" (aka pinhole camera) with an analog video signal and I understand that if I run it through an analog to digital converter like the Pinnacle Studio MovieBox, I can view it in iMovie. I tried it, and was able to get iMovie to acknowledge that the camera is connected, but I wasn't able to view the image.
    Any ideas?

Hi Andrew. Thanks for getting back to me. I'll make sure I post in the relevant forum. Thanks for the advice.
The company will act as a kind of freelance design agency bringing skilled people together with people looking for those services. I would like the site, including the video, to be up by Monday-Tuesday ideally. And the main reason for this is so that it showcases what we are about to any prospective freelancers and creative talent that we are in the process of contacting so they have a clear idea about the company and what we are looking for. I have no intention of dealing with clients on a commercial basis yet without any kind of infrastructure in place in terms of trusted personnel beforehand. I agree that would certainly be questionable.
    Thanks again for your reply.

  • Run full screen video with GarageBand

    Good evening.
I have a question about using GaraBand with full screen video.
I'm creating a movie using Final Cut Pro (which's new for me) and creating a music track in Garageband.
I will like to have GarageBand to play the music in one track, using an interface I will send a click to the drumer but also ( and this is part of my question), I need to have GaraBand to play the sync movie I created, on a video beam running in full screen.
The goal is to manage the application in my laptop but the people should not see the application or anything on my desktop, they should be able to see just the video after I hit play.
So, is there a way to have GarageBand to send a clik to the drummer mintor, play the sound track and do split monitor on a video beam that should show just the full screen movie and not my desktop?
I will really appreciate any suggestion about this.
Note: I have Logic Pro 8 too, in case logic supports it.

Thank you for taking a look into this question Chris.
This is the very first time I'm trying to do this type of presentations and I'm not sure if there is a way or another application to run a music track with a click only for monitoring of the drummer (which GB does) and at the same time run the video which was edited to by synchronized with the audio the musicians will play.
I can see the the movie preview window and make it larger, the problem is that it will not pay in full screen  move on a video beam.
I'm starting to feel that with GB it is not possible.

  • Does iMovie support Sony MicroMV video format?

    Hi, there
I have one Sony MicroMV HandyCam (Model No. DCR-IP55E) and try to use iMovie to import the video from it. iMovie can recognize this machine (It shows the correct name and format for it!). But it can not import the video. As iMovie only recognize DV or mepg-4 format, what should I do now? Please kindly advice.
    Thanks,
    David

Sony videocams are very popular in the market and
this videocam is very compact and with many
attractive features, like bluetooth and internet
    access.
I've been covering the photo industry as a journalist for over 14 years and frequently deal with Sony. I never said they don't make some good products, but that they always do things their own way and have NEVER made much of an effort to support the Mac community.
It is very sad that as a new Mac user, it
seems like I have to use the PC to import the clips
and then use Mac to do the editing. So is it possible
that Mac new Operating system will provide certain
software or driver for SONY MicroMV videocam in the
    near future?
I certainly doubt it based on past experience. BTW, it's up to Sony to supply the necessary drivers to make things work on a Mac (or some third party) - Apple doesn't do this. Since Sony sells PC format computers, they don't seem to have any reason to do so.
I suppose you could buy a new Intel Mac and also install Windows - then you could use the Sony supplied software to get the video into your computer.
There are plenty of great camera choices that DO work with the Mac.

i am trying to learn how to use imove.  i have video clips on my ipad 1 that i would like to move to imovie on my Mac OSX.. How should i go about that?

If you do not have it on disc, then download it, install it, and activate it with your serial numnber.  If you need to download it, if you purchased it online thru Adobe look for a link in your Adobe account online.  You can also download the trial version and activate it with your serial number...

  • Edit existing videos

    Hi all!
I have some pieces (some different files) of a video and I'd like to put them together by editing them. I'd like to keep the original audio too, but it seems that I have to choose an audio file from my iTunes library. If not, iMovie HD edit the video apparently without any audio. How can I keep the original audio?

If a video file -- a movie -- contains both video and audio, the audio is automatically included when the movie is imported to the iMovie project. My guess is some iMovie feature isn't set quite right or you'd be able to hear it. You should be able to hear the audio when you play the video clip.
Note that the audio of a newly-imported movie does not show up in an audio track of the timeline; it's part of the video clip in the top track.
If you're not hearing any audio:
    • Make sure the iMovie audio volume is not turned all the way down. Adjust the iMovie volume slider below the clip viewer. (Also make sure your Mac speaker volume is audible. It's a separate setting.)
    • Make sure the audio checkbox for the video track is turned on at the right end of the iMovie timeline. For the checkbox to appear, the timeline must be in timeline mode, not clips mode.
    • Make sure your iMovie preferences aren't set to mute the audio. The Mac's audio is muted when the Playback checkbox "Play DV project video through to DV camera" is turned ON.
    • If all that fails, make sure the video contains audio. Try playing the source movie in QuickTime Player.
