    Hi,
OpenType fonts have many advantages over previous font formats because they contain more glyphs.

  • Export ePUB from inDesign CS6 - polish fonts problem

I have to make ePUB with polish fonts.
I create a simple one page document in inDesign CS6 and export it to ePUB. All fonts are embedded.
When I check it in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) there is problem with polish fonts (ż, ł). ADE doesn't read it correctly. Other readers do it in right way.
Is it a problem with inDesign or ADE?

The ADE provides a preview, and nothing more than that. Actual viewers have other, more, or less capabilities -- some don't support embedded fonts, others do but with limitations, etc.
    ComrelPL wrote:
.. that's why bookstores need ePUB to be compatibile with this ADE.
E-Pub is still in its infancy. There is no general "e-pub" standard that *all* viewers are compatible with, other than the very lowest common denominator (which may very well mean "plain text").

  • Incorrect images from .indb file export to ePub in Indesign CS6

I am having problems exporting images to ePub and get a different result from the same file depending on whether I export directly from the .indd file or from the .indb file.
When I export to ePub from the individual chapter (.indd) file, everything is fine and the images appear in the correct locations where they have been anchored.
When I export via the book  (.indb) file, images are being replaced with the incorrect file in the resulting ePub.
Looking at the HTML, it seems not all images are being exported from the .indb file and when the image is missing, Indesign is substituting the next available image from the alphabetical list in the images folder so I'm getting incorrect images peppered throughout the book.
Any idea where I've gone wrong and how to fix it? I've produced several ePubs with images and never come across this before.
More details on how I've set up the files and any other info I think might be relevant below if needed.
    - I'm using Indesign CS6 (8.0.1)
    - I'm producing an 11 chapter book.
    - Each chapter is a separate .indd file for ease of editing.
    - These 11 files have been added to an .indb file for export to ePub.
    - Images are all anchored to their captions within the text.
    - On Export to ePub settings for images I have selected to insert a page break before the image and that settings apply to anchopred objects.
Nothing else is selected (I don't want to preserve appearance from layout.)
    - I'm using the Articles panel feature for order of content.
    - In the original file supplied, the images were placed as .tiff images. I saved them to jpeg and relinked them using the "relink to folder" and "match same file but this extension" options.
    - No links are flagged as missing.
    Any help much appreciated.

The solution points to how, it appears, the book panel export is functioning: each file exports a set of tags referenced to itself; file01 adds a "1" to its tags, and so forth. What I was able to do was use a file referencing all of the tags in the style suite in two ways:
    first, I exported to an epub the single file, creating a fairly clean CSS, which I then extracted and renamed;
    then, making certain that file was the "source" file in the book panel, I mapped for export all of the tags, being careful to be certain each tag/class combo was same as in renamed clean CSS;
    I synchronized the whole shebang;
I exported to epub, adding my clean CSS as an external style sheet, selecting only "include embeddable fonts".
    Bingo!

  • Fonts not showing in InDesign CS6

    Hi there,
I've seen a similar question to this before through a Google search and I tried the advice listed such as placing the affected fonts in: C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\InDesign CS6\Fonts; as well as searching for fonts with a **after its name.  Doesn't work.  The files originated in CS5 and pops up saying there are two missing links (fonts) which are Avenir Book and Avenir Black.  I've done the "Find Font" and the only one that shows is Avenir Book.  Avenir Black isn't even there, even after re-installing and relocating to the new folder.  Secondly, even after I save the file after "finding" Avenir Book, upon re-opening it still says it's missing.  Is there anything else I can try-short of uninstalling InDesign CS6 (I still have CS5 installed)?  Also, I'm not that familiar with InDesign, it isn't a program I use much.
    Thanks!

Is this the same computer where the files started out in CS5?
There are probably quite a few different cuts of Avenir (certainly over the years it has been available as TT and T1 in both Windows and Mac formats, and I have an OpenType version here from Linotype). Some possibilities for why CS6 might not see a font are that you have installed a different version, you have more than one version installed or it is installed in more than one location, or that it is looking at a different internal name in CS6. Typically, if the fonts are showing as missing, but are, in fact installed, using Find Font and substituting the same font will solve the problem.

  • Can't change Font or Size in Indesign CS6 via dropdown menu

    Hi!
I can't change the font on new documents created in Adobe Indesign CS6. I can't choose other fonts or an other font size from the download menu.
If i use the same option from the right mouse button menu, it works.
New installations or repairs of the application doesn't work.
    Windows 7/64bit

    Thanks for every advice.

  • Missing "Find fonts" menu item in InDesign CS6

  • Embeddable Fonts for EPUB?

I'm using ID CS6 to create EPUBs. When I try to export anything other than the usual Times New Roman, or other basic fonts, the fonts don't show up in the exported EPUB.
For instance, I've tried using Minion Pro, Warnock, Lucida, etc. and all I get at the other end is either a bizarre substitution, or Times New Roman.
Every paragraph and character in my ID docs is assigned a paragragh or character style, which includes export tagging, and usually a class. I've had people on forum boards tell me I'm foolish for assigning classes, but how else are you supposed to distinguish between two h2 styles with different attributes?
Rather than place text from Word, which I've noticed imports a host of other problems on export, I copy the text into a simple text editing program, make it plain text, then copy and paste into ID, then apply styles to format. The embed fonts checkbox is checked when exporting.
What am I missing? What qualifies as an embeddable font? I should mention that I am viewing the epub in ADE. Could this be the problem?
Update: Just noticed that none of the character styles I've tagged as span are coming through either. The em and strong character styles work, but nothing tagged span will be properly styled in the EPUB. I even tried applying styling to characters without creating a style and it doesn't work. For instance, SMALL CAPS come through as small caps.

What are your export settings? Where are you viewing the EPUB? Have you cracked it open to see if there is a fonts folder? Does the CSS show the proper font.
Finally, nothing wrong with a class if it has a purpose. For main body text you can use a p tag without a class. If the first paragraph after an h2 has a special format you can use h2+p to create that stylinging in the css. Of course, this assumes a knowledge of CSS and the willingness to crack open the EPUB to work on it.

  • Embeddable fonts for epub Windows 7

    Hi,
InDesign (CS4 in my case) only allows embedding embeddable fonts in an ePub.
Looking at the Windows font folder, I see the following categories:
Blank, editable, installable, print and preview, restricted license.
Does anyone know which, if any, of these means that I can embed a font
    in an ePub?
    Thanks,
    Ariel

  • Need help with Italics for ePub and InDesign CS5

Could someone help a me out. I just can not find the answer to this and I know it should be simple, I am just missing it.
I am creating an ePub from CS5 InDesign. All I want to do is have the italics that are shown in the text box in InDesign, show up in the epub file.
I would prefer not to say what I have done (I think I have tried everything, but obviously I did them all wrong, so no point listing them) and I am hoping someone can do a simple, step by step guide to how to have italics show up in the ePub file.
Sorry if this question is beneath everyone, this is really annoying that I can not figure this out on my own.

    Yup, done this.
In InDesign, the text is Italic. It has the Character Style Italic associated with it.
But when I export to ePub, it is not italic.
Here is the HTML from the xhtml file for a single line of what is supposed to be italic text,
    <p class="normal normal-override-2" xml:lang='en-us'><span class="italic italic-override">Words that should be Italic.</span></p>
The above line does not show up as italic in any of the 3 readers I am using to test with.
Now, in the css sheet, the span.italic-override does not have anything associated to font-style. If I manually add the font-style italic, then re-pack everything, it works.
It just seems to me a bit absurd to have to export the epub, unpack it, open it in dreamweaver, add the font-style, and repack it just to have something as simple as italic work.
So, I am missing something, I get that... I just can't figure out what!

  • I exported my .epub from Indesign CS6 but it crashes my ibooks every time.

    Hi,
I have a book that I'm publishing that I'm trying to test on my iphone 5/ipad. I have done this last year with another book without any problems. This new book has a short film embedded, so is that making a difference for the problem I'm having? I have placed different files formats into indesign and it takes it fine. But the epub version kinda freaks out when it's read. Suggestions? The best video format for Indesign? Cheers.

    Moved to InDesign forum.
If you're going to read an epub on iBooks I would suggest MP4 with h.264 encoding.

  • How do I change appearance states for checkboxes in InDesign CS6?

    Hello,
I am creating an interactive fillable PDF form and need to use a custom checkbox.
I am aware as to how I add my 'Icon' to the Sample Buttons and Form Box, but am having difficulty when attempting to alter the appearance states 'Normal' or 'Rollover' or 'Click'.
It seems that when I turn my button into a checkbox, as soon as it becomes selected, it puts a god awful default tick inside it as opposed to allowing me to choose my own 'Normal' state.
    Please help.
    M/

I am having the same problem as Mykel. Using CS6, I've created a form and added checkboxes. I had a request that I customize the checkboxes to make them easier to see when checked. I adjusted the states of the checkbox and they seemed to function well....but only in Acrobat Pro X. When I open the PDF in Acrobat Reader XI, then the checkboxes act strangely. (Most of the end users will be using Acrobat Reader, so this is a concern.) When intially checked, they appear in the modified way that I want them to. However, as soon as the user clicks somewhere else on the page, the modified checkbox reverts to the default checkbox with a tick mark in it instead.
I'm exporting the PDF as an interactive PDF and have tried various settings. I've also experimented with creating a checkbox from scratch rather than modifying a provided checkbox. All to no avail. I'd welcome any thoughts or suggestions anyone may have. Hoping I've just missed a step in the process!
