Using inspection plan in multiple plants

Hi,
I would like to use one inspection plan in multiple plants. Are there any disadvantages or pitfalls? (besides the fact that if I use workcenters, the same workcenters must exist in all plants using the plan)
Marcus.

I love to use material specs.  They can be used alone or in conjunction with a plan.
There are several reasons why plans must be used in certain situations.
Dynamic modification is one of the big ones.  You can only use DMR in inspection plans.
You also need plans to work with PRT assignments.
Security based on workcenters.  Some plants require that only certain techs or personnel perform certain inspections.  And the people who can do results recording is strictly monitored.  This is especially true for those using SAP in the Pharm and food industries.
Using calculated characteristics.  These can only be taken advantage of if your use inspection plans.
Enginerring change management.  Plans can used ECM to track and document changes.  Another big requirment in Pharma and food.
If a material spec is used it is an all or nothing situation.  In many places, there might be 20 or 30 characteristics on a given material spec.  If you inspect by material spec then all the characteristics in the material spec are copied into the inspection lot.  If you inspect in conjunction with a plan, any characteristics that don't match up with an inspection plan characteristic are appended to the last operation of the plan.
Since in many places, inspections are done at various stages, or maybe derived from batch derivation, they often want to pick and choose what tests get performed at what inspection.  A good example would be 03 and 04 lots.  Many places might test some characteristics via the 03 inspection that get the tests from the routing/receipe.  If the test is done in a later operation, there may not be any need to repeat the test in the 04 inspection lot.  Using a material spec, they wouldn't have that flexibility.  Anther example are 09 recurring inspections.  Many companies may only inspect a certain subset of characteristics to requalify the material at reinspection.
Capturing costs for specific testing must use an inspection plan.  (yes, you can use general QM order in the material master if you want, but the operation header of a plan has various values and settings for working with costs)
And now in 6.0, if you want to use the multiple spec functionality, you have to use inspection plans.
If you integrate with EH&S and maintain specs in EH&S then EH&S can create and update all the inspection plans as changes are made.  But not material specs.
I think I hit some of the big reasons,  I'm sure others can probably come up with ones I've missed.

  • How to use Same Inspection plan for Multiple Plants?

    Hello,
When I create a Process Order for material (M1), release and save it for a Plant A then I get the Inspection lot automatically.
Now I have another Plant B that we have created. We would like to use the same Inspection plan that has been created for Plant A and M1
So in the changed mode(QP02) of the Inspection plan for Plant A in the material assignment tab I added the Material M1 and the Plant B. I am assuming this means when I create the Process order for M1 in Plant B then it should use the same Inspection plan.
But when I create the Process Order for M1 for Plant B, release and save it then it does not created the Inspection lot automatically(though I can create Inspection lot manually)
Can you tell me if there is setting that will allow me to create the Inspection lot automatically on saving the Process order which should use the Inspection plan that I just assigned.
And also let me know if there is a better way to handle same Inspection Plan for same material but multiple Plants.
    Thanks
    SAP Fans...

    Dear,
For your message my understanding is that you are not getting Inspection lot created in Plant"B". Inspection lot for a material would get created based on the Inspection Setup for the material master "QM View", so compare the QM for the material in both plants and correct it for Plant "B".
Probably I feel Inspection Setup is not complete for the material in Plant "B" - Generally when extending material by copying referance, in the QM view you need to click the Inspection Setup Button, for the data to be copied...otherwise it does not copy the Inspection setup from the referance plant.

  • Inspection lot with inspection type 03 - Using Inspection plan

    Dear friends,
I want to create an inspection lot at the time of production order release (ideally - insp type 03). But I want to use inspection plan as a task list instead of routing for that lot.
    Is it possible?
    Best Regards,
    Avinash

    Hi Swapnali,
    Was expecting this re-question.
We are at a stage where system is already ready. The routing master data contains large number of alternatives and huge number of parallel sequences. We were looking for a solution in which we would make an inspection plan without touching routing master data. Second I want to create the lot at the time of order release (basically one lot per production order) so don't want to use insp type 04.
In config, I assigned task list type Q in front of lot origin 03 (Maintain Inspection Lot Origins and Assign Inspection Types).
But still system is picking the routing and not inspection plan. Is there a way out?

    hi gang,
try to make usage decision ,kindly check in material document which you have created while making the GR, check in which storgare location you have specified and try to transfer the stock from quality to unrestricted.and also make a note on batch number also if you have activated the batch management

  • Inspection plan with multiple specifications

I have to maintain 1 inspection plan for 2 vendors for incoming inspection.
    Eg: Vendor A & B
Vendor A, I have to check parameter Fe, Mn, Si
Vendor B, I have to check parameters Fe, Moisture (For B, no need to check Mn, Si. Also Fe specification will vary for A and B vendors)
How can we do this in SAP. I cannot maintain 2 inspection plans.
    Vineeth

    Dear Vineeth
    1) Dependent characteristic
    For MIC 1000 - Vendor  A specification 10 to 20, For Vendor B spec is 30 to 50
Suppose we receive 10 pc from vendor A , after GR inspection lot will be created from the 10 pc and the specification for MIC (1000) will be automaticaly assgined to the inspection lot ie 10 to 20. If the vendor was B then the specification would be 30 to 50.
In inspection lot there will be only one specificaton either it will be of Vendor A or that of B
    2) In multiple specification is normaly used for Customer, country etc.
you have customer A , B , C & D with differnet specs for one  single mic and you want to valuate the mic with all specification seperately at one time
In this multiple specification is used. here we can valuate the mic with all the specification of A, B , C & D and results in a seperate window in the result recording tab. accordingly you can check wehter the mic has passed as ok with all cusomter specification

  • Planning with multiple plants

    Hi all,
I have two production plants B and C.
I have a stock of 100 in plant B and a stock of 400 in plant C. So the total stock is available is 500.
I enter the requirement quantity of 1000 at plant A (planning plant) and do the MRP run.
Now I should get the planned orders generated at the two plants B and C for the remaining quantity. What can I do?
    Rgds,

    Hi,
As per my best knowledge you have no better solution in R/3 than the metioned process, that cannot realize your goal fully (you cannot optimize the process, you cannot consider the planning situation of all your plants during MRP run).
As I mentioned, more advanced solution is SAP APO that could realize your / your client's idea.
As for development: I cannot estimate how much and serious work could be to realize the multi-plant MRP run in R/3...but I'm afraid it won't be an easy job to do.
Please also wait for the others, maybe someone can tell you a workaround / good idea.

  • Reference MIC require to be use for Multiple Plants

    Hi All,
I have created 2 characteristics and asigned it to one class hence with reference of that i have created MICs for Plant X.
Accordingly i have assinged those MICs to inspection plan which are cretaed for Plant X.
After get done result recording and UD , values get copied to batch classification and its working fine.
Now the problem is that perticular class we are using for another class also (i.e Plant : Y) , because same process is happening in Plant X as well as in Plant Y.
I have created new inpection plan for Plant Y also sepratly and Material assignment also done.
For Plant Y , this scenario not working , results not gets copied to batch classification
As per starndard i can create only 1 MIC against 1 Reference.
Please advise how same refernce MIC would be work for another plant (i.e Y).
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

    Hi,
MICs are generally created for one plant but they can be used in inspection plans of different plants. I don't understand where is the gap in this discussion. Pl share if I missed out something.
Second view could be like this. You have a MIC, let say Quality, which is used in both plants but you want it to get linked with different characteristics (Char 1 for X and Char 2 for Y). If that's the scenario, then yes, you would need to create this MIC for Y also and link with second characteristics.
Frankly saying, I couldn't understand the real issue here. Is master data the issue or updating of batch master ??
    Also check the following path
QCC0>Basic settings> Maintain setting at plant level> Choose Plant Y> InsLot Completion. Make sure Batch valuation is set on.
Additionally, Pl rephrase the following statement,
Now the problem is that perticular class we are using for another class also (i.e Plant : Y)

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. when i am trying to create a inspection plan in other plant, we have 4-5 sampling procesures to select from. But for this perticular plant where we are having problem, its showing only one. How do i get more options? How do i extend a sampling procedure to a new plant.

  • Inspection plan creation error....

    Hello gurus,
I am getting error while creating inspection plan....
'Work center ABC plant ABC does not exist for task list type Q'
    what should be the solution......?

Double check that the plant for the inspection plan matches the plant for the work center. If you created the work center in plant ABCD but are creating the plan in a different plant, they may not match.
This usually happens when you create a plan by using an existing plan in another plant as the template.

  • Inspection plan copy model

    Hello,
How to extend the Inspection plan from one plant to another plan by copy model. The Master inspection characteristic were not getting extended, for ex when we coped from A- B , Header, Operation , Material assignment get copied , but the  Master inspection characteristic created as Plant A in the Plant B Header, Operation , Material assignment group counter.
    Thanks for the help
    Thanks,
    Nic

I think there might be some confusion on what you are expecting to happen.
Don't expect the MIC's used in a plan to have new MIC's created in the plant the plan is being copied to.
The plan will simply be copied, using the MIC's in the plan.
So if MIC 10002301 from plant 1000 is used in plan 400 and you copy plan 400 to plant 2000, the new plan will use the MIC 10002301 from plant 1000.
The copy program does not create MIC 10002301 in plant 2000 for you.

  • EHS - QM Interface. Inspection Plan Creation

    Hi all,
Has anyone used EHS-QM interface before?
I am tryng to create inspection plan characteristics from specification database and it is not working properly.
The customizing that I have done is:
    1. We have Specify Environment parameters (i.e. EHQMEP_CONTROLKEY)
    2. We have verify Product Safety, Quality Management and Material Management pre-requisites
    3. We have filled Mapping Table (CGQM) with and standard value assignment type (SAP_EHS_1013_016) and a class characteristic (SAP_EHS_1013_016_EC_TEMP)
    Then in CG02 we have:
    1. We have completed a specification in CG02 with Usage QM and a Validity Area
    2. In CG02 we create a inspection plan and select rating QM or Group all ratings
    3. No Inspection Plan to be created is available
Any clue on what the problem migth be?

    Dear all
1.) it might be helful to open a new thread regarding your topic in parallel EH&S FORUM
2.) To my knowlegde witH SAP ECC 6.0 EnhancementPackage 5 EH&S QM interface has been enlarged. I am sorry. My inquiry in internet regarding that was not successful. PLease check SAP Markeptplace as I am pretty sure that there was a change/enhancement
3.) we are not using this intertace but have played around a little bit.
The interfaceh EH&S => QM is in my opion "not well" designed. First of all:
a.) you need to trigger it manually (use of transaciton CG02)
b.) to my knowledge no change in EHST is tarbnsferred automatically to QM; e.g. if flash point has changed or density etc. the user is in charge to make sure that the data will be tranferred into QM
c.) the "trick" to map validity areas to plant (excatly it is a plant plant mapping)  is not goiod approach. Reason:
Normally a density is defined with usage "PUBLIC/EG_WORLD). The meaining is:
1.) can be used e.g. in Materiaql Safety data sheet (public document)  and other EH&S document
Now you can use (you must not) priorized ratings (e.g. rating QM does have higher priority as PUBLIC) in EH&S logic to transfer data from EHS& to QM but to my knowlegde you must make the "plant" <=> "PLant" by "hand" using furtehre validity areas.
That means fi you would like to use density 1 g/cm3 for all plants (and the QM inspecions plans) then you must enter any plant of relevance as validity area to map that to the inspection plan (which to my knowlegde once again is plant specific).
I am not sure if the EH&S QM interface supports you really to "start" immedeatly the generation of inspection plans regardgin all plants,. The link to SAP online help above will lead you directly in the right chapter.
Regarding phrases: sorry the analysis of thsi interfaxce has been done long ago; but phrases are "textes" which can have "any length". It might be a problme to map that to QM Plan. If you check that link above you will lead to this statement:
n the Function module column you can use a function module to define yourself how specification data is to be converted to an inspection characteristic.
As an example, use the function module EHQM09_BUILD_CHA_NO_COMP to develop analogous modules.
Therefore if necessary you could exchange this fuinciotn module by a customer specific one.
    May be this helps

  • Inspection plan Vs Material specification

What is the difference between this and their limitation ,,when we have to use Inspection plan and when for the Material specification ?..Any detailed explanation   please
    Thanks for the help

Inspection plan and when for the Material specification
Inspection plan is plant specific material & plant combination.Means if same material is used in other plant you can not have Inspection plan of other plant used.
Whereas when you hava material specs then it is not plant specific.Nce created it can be used for any plant.
This can be used when your specifications are not plant depeendent.

    Hello all..
We have data in SAP...we need to move it from one plant to another.
I need to move the inspection plans from one plant to another..I need to make source files for this in order to use LSMW, can anyone tell me how to make source files for Inspection plans, which tables to use and which all field to include???

    Hi,
I think above solution is ok to make your work easy, but if you want that control then you can use Engg Change Number functionality.
    1. every year create inspection lot manually with inspection type 89.
    2. check for inspection plan changes
    3. Generate Change number and with that change number change the inspection plan.
    4. now for change number we have release strategy. we can use this release strategy.
Please try and let me know if that is working.
