Using integrated camera with Windows Live Messenger

MSN Messenger for Mac does not support video except via Office Communications Server 2007 (usually paid for by commercial enterprises rather than individual users). However, it is possible to video with your friends who use the PC version of the MSN Messenger family of apps. Here are a couple of ways you can try:
(1) As suggested by Defcom, take a look at aMSN and Mercury
Either can do webcam video with your built-in iSight.
They work a bit differently, so use whichever you find easiest or most reliable on your MBA.
(2) As an alternative, because your iNtel Mac can use Boot Camp, VMware Fusion™, or Parallels™ to run Windows® software, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software to your iNtel Mac (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows® Messenger application that your contacts are using to video chat with them.
The Windows drivers for your built-in iSight and your other Mac hardware are on the disk with Boot Camp so, after you have installed Windows, you can install the iSight driver and use your built-in iSight if you like. If you need more help on this, search or post in Boot Camp discussions category
(3) If your friends are willing to try something "new and improved" (does NOT work with Messenger):
you can both install and try a different video chat app such as Google Talk or Skype.

Weird Artifacting with Windows Live Messenger

So, I noticed that I get some artifacting with Windows Live Messenger's notifications after restoring my W520 to its factory settings again. I got angry at it and restored it to factory settings again, and it is still present. Yes, I've tried updating my software. It is weird as I can play games fine without artifacting. Also, this doesn't happen when when I'm on discrete only, happens in Optimus and integrated only, though. Currently trying a clean install. This has never happened before. If it helps, I recently updated to the 1.26 BIOS.

Works fine with the generic VGA driver.

Are your graphics drivers up to date? Maybe try the NVidia Verde 275.xx driver?
WLM 2011 is GPU accelerated. Does the issue also appear in Skype 5 or IE9 or any other GPU accelerated program?
Does the issue seem to appear when Optimus toggles graphics cards?

If you are using iChat it will not chat with MSN (or similar) buddies without some work

ITunes keeps stealing focus from itself when used with Windows Live Messenger 2011

Dear Community,
I've always used WinAmp as my default music player, which worked like a charm both at playing music and showing my 'Currently Listening To' in WLM 2011.
However, I personally think iTunes has better library management, and since I bought an iPod Shuffle (4GB, small stick without buttons, think 3th gen?) I needed it anyway just to be able to listen to my music when I'm in the bus or train, so I made the switch.
It really works quite nice after you get to know the program, minor flaws here and there, but no really big deals. (except the lack of FLAC support, had to recode like 60% of my library, I like lossless audio without a proprietary codec)
At least, not until I used it to show the currently playing song in WLM2011.
Since upgrading from iTunes 9 to 10 (10.4.1.10 to be exact, and upgraded after a clean install of Windows 7 SP1, so to make it clear, iTunes 9 was not installed at the time I installed iTunes 10, nor were there any files or leftovers) it just keeps stealing focus. Not from my browser, or other apps, but from itself!
Whenever I try to edit a song's information and WLM is running, it keeps popping back to the main window, which makes correcting songs (like putting the artist in the right column) a real pain in the ***.
I'm running W7 x64 SP1 (build 7601), all drivers are up to date, WLM 2011 (build 15.4.3538.513) and, if it makes a difference, WLM Plus 5.03.0.716.
I already have it as 'Default Program' for all possible file extensions.
I have looked through these forums to see if there's a similar problem and found many, however, they all apply to older versions (iTunes 6 and 7 or MSN 7 and 8) and don't seem to work with this new version.
If any of you know a way to keep iTunes as my default player and show the currently playing son in WLM2011 without iTunes stealing its own focus, I'd love to hear it!

hi there, i've had this same issue too for a while...so basically...the problem only happens if you run windows live messenger with compatability mode and while you tell windows live messenger to show what music you're listening to.
SO the solution to this problem is to:
1. turn off compatability mode
OR
2. turn off "show imformation about the song im listening to" to on windows live messenger
personally i'd rather just turn off "show imformation about the song im listening to" because windows live messanger tends to crash a lot when compatability mode is turned off.

Using iTunes in sync with Windows Live Messenger

According to Windows Live Messenger help you can display your iTunes song information under your personal message. I was using this, then started using Windows Media Player because I had music that was protected and would only play on Windows Media Player. So i used the Messenger Plug-in on there. But now, even when I disable the plug-in on Windows Media Player it won't display my song information on Messenger.
Any idea on how to solve it?

I have an application server (written in JMS) which uses to send/receive messages from mobile/desktop client. My intention is to send messages (text format) into window live messenger. There is a new version of windows live search for PC's, which uses a silverlight plugin, called
"tafiti". Is Nokia planning to support a mobile version of this browser on N-series or S60-series phones?

Microsoft has launched a new website, Tafiti.com, that delivers Windows Live Search in a Silverlight interface. Tafiti, swahili for “do research” or “to search”, is more of an expriment, showing the cool applications and UI that are possible with Silverlight, but it is fully functional, with Live Search, including web search, books search, blog search, news search, and image search. It appears that you have to uninstall the Silverlight 1.1 alpha and re-install the 1.0 Release Candidate to make it run (that’s not getting annoying).
You can drag searches over to the areas on the right side, then, share them with others or your other PCs (or Macs). Each search stacks on a card above the last one. Tafiti uses some pretty cool animation, only possible with Silverlight. There’s a really cool carousel that rotates among search types. The news search uses a very cool newspaper style view.
There’s also this cool tree view, that shows items from the search on a rotating tree. It’s good for a screensaver, and can be clicked to run full screen.

Check out Tafiti, it’s pretty cool, and it goes to show you what Silverlight is capable of. Five guys built this, so the possibilities are more than there for small teams to do cool things.

Is it possible to use iChat to video chat with someone using Windows Live Messenger?

Only for Text and with a fair bit of set up involving a Jabber ID.

Itunes with windows live messenger

for some reason, after i downloaded the new update today, it doesnt seem to be showing what music im playing on windows live messenger, yet if i used windows media player it shows what im playing, i was wondering how i would be able to turn this setting back on so that it shows what im playing

Error with windows live messenger

I tried to update msn messenger yesterday! and since then msn has gone from my phone and in My world the app just says starting download! but has been doing that for 24hrs. Ive had no problems downloading anything else. I cant do anything with it either!!! like start again or go back ....Thanks for any help...

Try this -
When you device is POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery. This make a reboot to your device which minor issues with the BlackBerry device.
After performing about try downloading the Windows Live Messenger again.

E66 Problems with Windows Live Messenger

I have downloaded and installed the Windows live msn, after it has successfully installed it cant run at all. If i open it, it freeze about 4-5 seconds then nothing happened. I have reformat using *#7370# and format my m-sd using my pc ( i have done it about 10 times doing it) and also i already bring it to NPC, and yet it still can not fixed the windows live messenger problems. Anyone get idea? Thank you.

where can I download the latest version, because I am having the same problem as well. The windows live logo displays as "?" as if it does not recognise the format at all.

Cannot use isight camera with Windows 7 x32 on Macbook mid-2009

Very very weird,
it worked until bootcamp was upgraded mid next year.
I have been looking for a solution siunce then.
Wife is using the notebook and she is mad every time she is answering call from Skype or MSN Messenger she needs to reboot into Lion.
She uses Windows 7 x32 on bootcamp most of the time yet she cannot use the camera.
The camera shows grey and freezes wiuth busy mouse cursor.
booting intro Lion works so it is something with the drivers.
Can anyone help?

Issue Fixed.
BootCamp 3.2 - 3.3 breaks the functionality with Windows 7 at the latest patch level.
The fix has been:
upgrading OSX to Lion
Patch to latest release
Go To Boot Camp Assistant
Download Windows Support Files to Jump Drive (second option I believe it is)
Reboot into Windows 7
Run Setup - BootCamp 4.0 will install
Reboot
Launch Skype or MSN Messenger - ISight will magically work again!

This issue is resolved by installing the latest drivers. Lenovo has the driver and this is in another discussion:

Push Mail Not Working Properly for Windows Live Mail when Online At Windows Live Messenger

Hello,
This is quite an old subject, but it seems to be a recurring problem across versions of Windows Live Messenger handheld client software and Blackberry Internet Service server software. For some time, I used to have no issues with Live Messenger and Push Mail from Hotmail. Now, once again, I am having a huge delay, of several hours, when logged on as “Online” to Windows Live Messenger.
What makes me believe that it is not a Windows Live limitation, by design, due to protocols and notification mechanisms in use, is the fact that I can receive both push mail and instant message notifications, immediately, as long as I am logged on to Windows Live Messenger as “Busy” or “Away”. If the protocols in place allowed notifications to only a single service at a time, I believe it should not work regardless of the status on Windows Live Messenger.
I have been using Hotmail for quite a while and most of my friends use Windows Live Messenger, so I would like to keep both working in my BlackBerry. I understand BlackBerry has a commitment to offering broad compatibility, great stability, and better integration than other solutions on the market that appeals to fancy user interfaces and forget about objectivity. Having a mobile platform that can keep both the corporate and consumer world happy is definitely a great advantage. There are several loyal users that would like to keep sharing the proficiency on a common user interface for business and personal use.
I do not often post messages to online forums, but this is an issue that has been annoying me for quite some time and I am really looking forward to a solution. Is anyone experiencing the same behavior with Windows Live Messenger lately? Is RIM looking for a solution?

Windows live messenger doesn't support arabic well

I have problem with windows live messenger
Im using E72 , the phone softwere is up-to-date,
I have downloaded it from ovi store,
there is two things need to fix ,
1- some words and sentences cut ! Or not complete inside the chat , I cant understand it ، I always have to ask to repet in different way ، so I can understand
Example1 :
Correct :اسيرياي ‏ = wrong: يرياي
Example2 :
Correct :خيوت ‏  ‏ = wrong: وت
2 - personal message (arabic) display in opposite direction ,
Example :
Correct:معتز ‏ ‏ ‎ = wrong: زتعم

V1.0 and V1.1 was ok in chating
but also the personal message and names wasn't ok
help me please (((

How to get isight camera to work in windows live messenger

I'm on macbook using VMWare Fusion software, I have split HD into windows XP and Mac side. I'm trying to connect on windows side with my brother who has PC using the windows live messenger. I can't find out how to get my mac isight camera to work in windows live chat. Anyone know settings on win xp side for making mac built in camera work?
I tried mac side, but mac messenger doesn't have video capabilities!
