I have some videos that I made stored on a USB flash memory stick.  Can I play them back directly on a ipad?

No, you can't. There are a couple of hard drives out there that will allow you to stream to your iPad over WiFi. Otherwise, you'll need, as the previous poster explained, sync through iTunes.

The iPad can not play some video formats such as WMV or FLV.  Those would need to be converted on your computer to something the iPad can play, like M4V or MP4.
You might ask the person who sent the message to you to do the conversion and send it again.

How would I play back video recorded on a camcorder on an iPad?>

    ToddNashville,
Thanks for your reply. I want to use the iPad (or another tablet) for it is portable, battery powered, light, etc. I'm taking video and playing back on a ski slop. Can't plug it in or carry it around like a normal video monitor.
Has no one developed an app and/or connector to provide a video input to the iPad yet? Hard to believe.

Why does Quicktime tell me it can't play certain videos created with my Phantom 2 v3 drone ? I fly the drone and switch back and forth from video to still pics and while I may have filmed four videos , sometimes Quicktime tells me that one of them can't be played . Checking the info shows that each of the unplayed videos was saved in the same mp4 format as the playable ones yet some of my most important videos won't play . It's getting very frustrating .

first; I use Perian, that helps even though it is no longer supported, (must have for avi files)
the apple-cores at apple have gotten very sloppy -- quicktime is a bit finicky and flakey.
example,   occasionally (when copy file from quad's card to hard drive)  the avi will show up as a 'mov' file and qt plays it no problem and no conversion.
but that is very occasionally,  most of the time qt won't convert the file,   -- iMovie won't open an avi without Perian installed  ,  I don't know how that effects qt.
qt 7"pro" is no good either, (qt 10 does everything it does and for NOT the extra $35)
I have gone to VLC  and MPlayerX  for direct playback for drones and cameras.

  • Can quicktime play an video track with multiple alternate audio tracks?

    Hi,
If I have a video track with multiple alternate audio tracks (say different languages), can a user select the audio track of his choice and play in Quick time?
    Thanks,
    Apurva

Does quick time/ safari have this capability?
QT (i.e., the QT structure embeded in current Mac OS/device IOS versions) has the ability to switch between alternative audio tracks assuming the file is properly encoded and the compression format is supported. QT 7, QT X, iTunes, and similar app player GUIs can switch between such tracks during playback but the QT plug-in cannot. In a similar manner, devices like TV can switch between such tracks but an iPhone cannot just as an iPhone can select "Chapters" but the QT browser plug-in cannot but an iPhone file programmed with both chapters and alternate audio tracks can be played back through a TV device and access both chapters and alternative audio tracks.
What I want to use is one video track with alternate audio tracks in a set level manifest and play this using HTTP Live streaming. I'm using the manifest mentioned here :
    http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-pantos-http-live-streaming-07#section-8.7
Since I do not use playlists, I am not familiar with the approach in your example. If I want alternate audio and/or video tracks, I create standalone video files with these features built in. Nor do I use RTSP if that is what you mean by "live streaming" of content. If I want to "stream" the content, I use "Fast Start" files programmed to open in the QT player app which supports these features or create reference or QT Media Link files that do the same thing.
As you mentioned, Safari on my iPhone is playing the default/first alternate audio track mentioned but not giving an option to switch tracks.
Neither Safari nor the Video app GUIs on your iPhone have a built in switching option. The only way to switch to alternate audio tracks is to do so with QT 7 Pro or possibly iTunes before loading or streaming the video file. (Am still speaking about a standalone file here and not a programmed playlist/RTSP switch.)
However Quick time on my Mac machine only plays the audio with the the video stream and not the alternate audio track.
The QT player app GUI only switches between tracks that are stored as part of the standalone file. Basically, QT files may contain up to 99 individual data tracks. In alternative audio videos, multiple audio tracks are added to the file by an editor like QT 7 Pro but only one track is designated as "active." All other tracks are designated as "inactive." The QT player GUI allows the viewer to select which audio track he or she wants to hear and then turns off the current audio track and turns on the selected audio track. Otherwise all active tracks would play simultaneously.
Is there a way to switch tracks on my iPhone on Safari?
As previously noted, the default track can be manually changed by QT 7 Pro or, I believe, iTunes (used to have this capability) before actually loading or streaming content.
    Does quicktime have this capability?
As far as I know, only with regard to stand alone files programmed with multiple alternate tracks. I am not a HTML, HTML5, or Java programmer so I assume there may be web alternatives here but they would be beyond the scope of my expertise.
Do you know any free player that can do this?
Again, I don't use either playlists or RTSP so I've never had a need to look for/use alternative players that might meet your needs. I simply find it easier to build files that work correctly in current player app/device GUIs already having these capabilities.
Or the very last option, can I build a player to do this? If yes can you suggest where/how I start?
Once again, I assume this might be possible but not part of my experience since, for my part, easier work flows are available.

  • Trouble playing back videos on my iPod touch

I recently started having trouble playing back video on my iPod touch. I have the most recent versions of iPod software, iTunes, and Quicktime. The video podcasts sync just fine but only play audio...no video. I basically get the first frame of the video and that's it. I have tried restoring the iPod, resetting it, deauthorizing/reauthorizing my iMac (using Leopard), etc. Nothing works. Interestingly, my wife has a nano and she suddenly cannot sync videos even though it was working fine just 2-3 weeks ago. These are basic m4v files that are downloaded from iTunes, so they should work. I believe this started after the last iPod software update but I can't be certain. Is anyone else having this problem?

Try starting video playback under the video section-not the audio section.

  • Can't play the video in my Lumia 520

I have downloaded 6 trailers and only 1 is able to play.

I have no idea what's wrong with my phone.
    Please help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi @livinglife,
    Welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
What is the error message displayed when you try playing the video? Have you tried using mobile data? If yes, does it show the same issue? What fixes have you tried so far? By the way, are you using the same phone model?

  • Can I play home video on my ipod touch?

Can I play home video on my ipod touch?

So, the only way to watch home video in ipod touch is via itunes? Because in fact i'm trying to use my ipod touch as a video monitor for my DSLR camera while i use it for filming. I thought i could use the hdmi adapter for ipod touch, but everyone tells me that it might not be possible, so i wont buy it without knowing if it is possible or not. I wonder if it is phisicaly possible, so all we would need for that is someone to develop a softare to use the hdmi adapter to watch a video into an ipod. I say this because my camera has a hdmi video out, but it could be with simple RCA cables too. Someone think it is possible?

  • I can't play certain videos from the internet on my macbook

I can't play certain videos from the internet on my macbook.
When using Sarfari or Google Chome, I am unable to play some videos on the internet. News clips, posted videos on blogs, and tv episodes from their own network websites. Youtube videos are fine. I doesn't make sense.
I tried downloading an update for quicktime, but the computer claims that quicktime is up to date. Yet, the videos and tv episodes don't play.
I have checked for the most recent software updates, and everything is up to date. Nothing is wrong with the hardware either.
Any suggestions would be awesome! Thank you!

In addition to Flash, you might need some other plugins.  Microsoft videos are mostly in Silverlight, and you'll want Flip4Mac to play WMVs.  Perian contains codecs for pretty much every video online.

  • HT4437 Can I play a video from the remote app onto apple tv whilst simultaneously stra, ing music to other speakers via express?

Can I play a video from the remote app onto apple tv whilst simultaneously stra, ing music to other speakers via express?

Thank you for that, I wanted to make sure I was trying to replicate the same thing as you. Just tried it now, works fine for me.
Of note though, this will take a relatively well performing network to achieve this, I have such a network, if your network is not as good as it might be, you might encounter problems.
For the avoidance of doubt, I used the remote app on my phone to get my iTunes library on my computer to stream music to 3 of my Apple TVs, I then used the remote app to control another Apple TV and get it to stream a music video from my computer to it. Of interest I managed to do this while my wife was using yet another Apple TV (not with the remote app) to watch something else from iTunes on my computer.

  • Can't play YouTube videos on Safari

Hi I can't play YouTube videos on Safari any more. I have noticed that I can play videos on Safari but not on YouTube. When atempting to watch a video on You Tube it won't finish loading. It appears to load at first evenutally stops before the video can play. I then receive the "Plug-in Failure" message.
I am using Safari 5.1.7 on Mac OS X 10.7.4.
I believe I am using the latest version of Abobe Flash Player, which I downloaded when I first noticed the problem.
Please note I do not wish change to a different web browser. Thanks for reading.

  • How can I play HD video on my ION s12?

I have tried playing HD content like .mkv files and I get stuttering so badly that it is not watchable. I have updated the drivers and have the combined community codec installed. Any help would be much appreciated!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey pteriss
I just found the problem. Just like I thought and also previously mentioned, is all about the codecs and players used.
As you might already know, any video file should be played with Media Player Classic or VLC as this players support almost all formats out there.
Now, like I also mentioned, Youtube and Hulu HD and anything based on web comes from flash video so dont expect ION to play nice. You will need to wait for Flash 10.1 to become official and Geforce drivers to update support (they only support beta 10.1 for now).
For the regular video files. .mov files WONT PLAY NICE. That is, things like Apple trailers wont play nice. I dont think thats an ION problem but more like Apple/Quicktime not fully optimized.
Now, you can try other formats and you WILL SEE ION can indeed PLAY 1080p with NO problems.
Formats that wont give you problems (from what I checked) are WMV HD (Microsoft) and MPEG2. I just downloaded 2 samples of each and they play GREAT! Both 1080p and 720p. The 720p looks better because of the screen size, it fits perfectly. 1080p still plays but you know, Media Player Classic has to resize the video to make it fit and it ends up as 4:3, but still plays. 720p no problem stays 16:9 and plays nice. I would use 1080p whenever I need to send it out through the HDMI port as the screen size best fits 720p.
Now, I still need to test MP4 format, IM PRETTY SURE THIS ONE WONT GIVE PROBLEMS EITHER!. This is such a popular format Im 99% sure it should also play as good as WMV HD or MPEG2.
Now, there is one more format which is VC-1. Im downloading a demo movie right now to see how it plays. Will update this post later and let you know how it goes.
So far we got this conclusion
    In 720p & 1080p:
    WMV HD = Excellent
    MPEG 2 = Excellent
    MP4 = Should be playable
    VC-1 = Decent, its watchable
    Quicktime (.Mov) = Not playable
Matroska (mkv) = Should be playable (with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack)
Youtube HD/ Hulu HD = Without Flash 10.1, you cannot play online videos at all. With Flash 10.1 & GeForce 195 or later drivers, you can watch 360p, 480p, and even 720p without problems!. 1080 gives it a hard time, little worse than playing a VC-1 file (check above), but 720p is fine at this early stage of Flash video on the GPU.
Just want to mention my specs. Lenovo S12 ION, Win XP Pro, K-Lite Mega 5.6.1, Media Player Classic.
And if you guys want to test samples and enjoy some 720p/1080p, here is the website I used
    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archive/index.php/t-940526.html
UPDATE 01/22/10: Just remembered about Matroska (mkv) will test that later. VC-1 results updated. Youtube HD/Hulu HD results also updated.
