Using iPad fonts on Macbook for design/authoring

HI there
I'm designing content for iPad, on my retina Macbook Pro, most recently using Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite. I'd like to leverage some of the iPad's most readable fonts, such as those used in iBooks (Seravek for example, but there are many iPad/iOS fonts I'd like to try).
Many of these aren't loading onto a new Macbook - how are designers supposed to design for iPad without easy access to it's pre-loaded fonts? Is there a way to get them for free?

Hi David,
Thank you very mcuh for the reply.
I tried as recommended above and ensured that setting are correct.
I switched off both iPad and Mac book, restarted, ensured that both are connected to same wi fi network.
At some time I can see my iPad in iTunes on my Mac however sometimes not detected.
However synching is done through wi fi and all Apps, music, videos etc are updated.

Why not simply use Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection. You can download it free here <--- clickety clicky
Once you install it on your Mac you can connect to your PC and run it from your iMac. It's pretty straightforward to set up.

There is no limit for re-downloading the app, the 5 limit is how many computers you can have your iTunes account authorised on at any one time. And no you can't use the app on your Mac (OS X), the iPad (iOS) is a different operating system and they are not compatible.

Using iPad Mini with MacBook Chrome running OS X 10.5.8

Hello,
My MacBook is coming upto 4 years old and I run 10.5.8. I recently bought an IPad Mini but it cannot connect to iTunes, and I cannot upgrade to iTunes version 7 as I am not running 10.6.8.
Does this mean that I have to upgrade my OS? If so, what's the best way to do this?
Or am I best biting the bullet and investing in a new MacBook?

There are two ways of looking at this. If the Mac can run Snow Leopard and the machine is still working well for you, you might be able to upgrade and get another year or two out the current machine.
Here are the minimum requirements for Snow Leopard.

Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

You can try contacting Apple and see if they still have it available. I bought it for $29.00 at Best Buy about 18 months ago and some online stores still have it but you will get the best deal with Apple more than likely. I would try this number from the online store.

The other way of approaching this is - if you can afford a new Mac - with the purchase of a new Mac and a new iPad Mini - you should be set for a few more years to come.

This is the first time I am using JTree in my application and I have got some problems with it that I can't work out after reading the Java tutorial. Please help!
1. For some nodes, the font color need to be different.
2. One node need to use more than one font type for example "This is a sample " some words need to be bolded.

What is the best software for creating simple forms for the internet? I am currently using an oldversion of Dreamweaver for web authoring.

Using iPad as external drive for Sony TV to play movies

In theory everything that you are saying sounds right to me.
I am not sure at all what the limitations are when using the iPad in education as far as how many iPads can sync to one iTunes account. I am going to take a stab in the dark here and guess that you can sync up to 49 iPads with one Mac and one iTunes account since the device that I found has 49 ports. How's that for an obvious guess?
But seriously, I don't how Apple treats volume licensing with a single iTunes account in education. You were using 30 iPads this past school year so we know that's not a problem. The device that I found has 49 ports so we assume that 49 iPads are OK as well. You would have to check with Apple as to what the limitations/rules arefor using a single iTunes account.
There has to be a way to sync as many iPads as you have students in those classes or the iPad in education would not be a viable option. What I don't know about is how you go about paying for that volume license or how it is implemented.
For personal use, you can use up to 10 devices with a single Apple ID/iTunes account. No more than 5 of those devices can be computers.

am I allowed to use the fonts in iWork for a business? I am going to found a new company so I have to design a logo, brochures,...!
I do not want to get sued by Apple for using their fonts illegaly

BTW: I am form Germany so my English is not perfect!

Most of the fonts installed in the operating system aren't Pages components.
So it's not only the Pages license but the system one which must be studied.

You can use iPad as the display for your mac mini. but it will be your secondary display .. i.e. you need to have a primary display other that iPad.

My only experience of Apple products is my much loved iphone 4.
I am an event photographer currently using windows laptops at events. My staff download my images to a powerful host laptop, select those for use and build a webpage stored in a shared folder on the host laptop. This laptop is hard wired to a wireless router, and 3 or 4 further laptops ( much lower spec as web browsing is all that is required) connect to the network and access the webpage allowing potenital customers to view the images on site at the event. It all works very well. After the event an online web gallery with ecart is created and added to my website.
There are a couple of problems with my 5 yr old host laptop - battery is dead and now the screen backlight has died- so I need a new one, and am for the first time I am considering a Mac. Probably a top spec mac book pro 15 inch for portability - the current one is 17 inch with a power supply the size of a house brick (and heavier an than a brick!) and I am trying to reduce the weight and physical volume of kit I am carrying to events.
Can I replicate my windows set up using ipads and a macbook pro? Is so, would first generation ipads (which I could pick up second hand on a well known auction site perhaps?) suffice or would it need to second gen?

I'm not getting a clear picture at all of what problems you're seeing. If you are seeing online accounts have their passwords changed, those accounts are being hacked. Someone may already have access to some account and is using that access to reset passwords on other accounts. Change the password on EVERY online account you have. Be sure to use a strong password, and don't use the same password on more than one site.
If you are seeing changes to your bookmarks and browser history, your Apple ID may be one of the accounts that has been hacked. After changing the password on your Apple ID, you need to lock it down with two-factor authentication:

Beyond that, we will need additional details about what specific symptoms you're seeing in order to help further. One thing I can say, though, is that these problems are very unlikely to be due to any kind of malware. See my Mac Malware Guide to learn more on that topic.
