Using iPad to listen to live radio

Does anyone know why I can't listen to live radio on the BBC website from iPad2? Everytime I touch listen live for a particular BBC radio channel I am directed to BBC iPlayer where I can only listen to radio programmes that have finished. Very frustrating!
Any ideas. Thanks in advance.
Patrick

The BBC iPlayer app lets you listen to live content - just select the Radio button at the bottom of the app, and then select Stations at the top and you should be able to select one of the BBC's national channels for live listening. It doesn't have local/regional channels - but apps such as TuneIn Radio may let you listen to them.

If you're listening to radio from the app, you need to go to that App (press Home button twice for multitasing menu and tap on its icon), and stop it there. If there is no such feature - you can "kill" the app, open multitasking menu again, hold one of the icons for couple of seconds, and click "X" symbol next to the radio app.
If the radio streams in Safari (web browser), you can simply stop it by closing the tab - tap little "X" next to the tab where the radio is playing.
    Hope this helps

  • E65 problem with listening to live radio

I have a fine wifi connection and live tv access but have problem to connect to any live radio station while connected though wifi. can anyone kindly help me out?

how do I listen to live broadcasts using my mac and why isn't this ability written into the OS.
It's not "written into the OS" because a Mac does not have a radio receiver. If you are referring to streaming broadcasts that come over the Internet, that capability is dependent on the web browser, not the OS. And as mentioned above, iTunes also has the capability to stream Internet-based "radio."
You can also go to any number of web sites that stream "radio" broadcasts. Just do a Google search on "internet radio". For example, here is a web site that aggregates such streams.

  • Can I assume that 2.0 FINALLY provides listening to live radio streams?????

Still hoping that 2.0 and/or the Apps Store will give us the ability to stream live audio on our iPhone.
Have been waiting for one year a feature that I assumed in 07 would be an automatic on the iPhone.
Why would the "perfect" device (yes I do like it) that has iPod, iTunes, Internet, Safari, Videos, Audio and much more NOT have the ability to listen to live streams of radio and in particular sports streams is really baffling.
I am praying that this feature is available in the 2.0 upgrade and/or at the Apps Store ...pls tell me it is available.

If the stream you want to listen to is using Windows Media it will probably never be available on the iPhone.
If it is using Flash then you need to go to the Adobe website and ask them to write a Flash client for the iPhone.

  • Listening to Live Radio Streams???

    Hmmmm...
This is a device has been promoted as a perfect portable internet device with iTunes, Internet, Safari, iPod, Podcasts and much more....but...
...why can't we listen to a live stream of a radio broadcast, particularly pro and college sports that are streamed on the internet that I CAN currently listen to on my Mac Powerbook...????
Why can't I listen to on my iPhone????
Am I missing something or is the PERFECT device missing something very important.

You should try searching google next time. There are NUMEROUS ways to stream live radio. You can use FlyTunes, not live but great channel selection. You can also use ORB, great service. Sign up fo ran account, link your favorite internet or radio channels, and boom all on your ipod. I use ORB and USirius t listen to my 120 plus channels of Sirius radio, as well as use ORB for WFAN Radio and ESPN....Also Accuradio, you should search google, there are numerous ways to stream

  • Listening to live radio broadcasts

As I have been sitting at my IMac (purchased April 09) day in and day out over the past weeks, I thought it would be good to listen to radio live broadcasts. To my surprise - or not - I find that apart from BBC iPlayer programmes nothing else is useable. (I have tried a wide variety of on-line channels). I seem to have this big machine, supposedly all singing and all dancing, yet can't listen to the radio. I just get the download box come up and a window full of script.
So answer is - how do I listen to live broadcasts using my mac and why isn't this ability written into the OS.
    Thanks
    Ann

  • HT1349 Can I use headphones to listen to Pandora radio without it being broadcast through the speakers?

I tried to listen to Pandora radio through the headphones,  without music being broadcast through  the speakers.  Have not been able to do this and want to know if it is possible and how to listen this way.

Yes, listening to Pandora through headphones is no different than listing to any other music/audio through headphones.  When you plug them in your speaker should automatically turn off.  Perhaps there is something wrong with your headphone sensor; try blowing on the opening to see if there is dust/debris getting in the way of its operation.  Sometimes plugging and unplugging your headphone jack multiple times will clear it as well.  If the problem persists take your phone to the Apple store and have them take a look at it.  It should still be under warranty.

  • NC6000 laptop-unable to hear online live radio

I can play tv programmes through IPlayer but am unable to listen to live radio or old programmes.
I've downloaded Windows media to no avail.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Maybe someone else know of a quick fix, not me unfortunaley, it is also a while since I used 10.6.8.
At least the audio system works correctly.
    Few more questions.
Do you have any extentions in Safari preferences, such as Ad block, Flash block etc, these can stop streaming working? I cannot remember if these extentions were available for Snow Leopard.
Did you use a Proxy server in your network settings that as been disabled by the software upgrade, or have they set one up for you in network settings to use the school network?
Do use a particular station, if so what is it and I will try it on my computer. It may give some pointers to what is stopping on your computer.
and I should have asked this before, can you steam radio from other locations, say at home etc.

  • Streaming Live Radio

Can anyone tell me how to stream live radio stations on-line? I like to listen to live radio streaming on-line. When I go to radio station websites and click the listen live button nothing happens. Thanks.

When I try the station website directly it doesn't connect me when I click on the listen live icon. A window appears with unrecognizable script. The link is www.kkla.com. It's a local radio station in the Los Angeles area. Thanks.

  • Listening to the radio using mac osx

I am a real computer phobe and don't understand why I can't listen to 'normal' radio stations using MAC OS X. The error message i am getting says that MAC OS X doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "mms:". Why is this the case? I can play it via windows. Also, I don't understand how to add new radio stations to iTunes. I have searched all through the documentation and cannot find comprehensive instructions i.e. instructions for dummies. Many Thanks, Lost in Kent

Welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
MMS = Microsoft Media Stream. Try copying and pasting the address into Windows Media Player to see if it will play there. It has been a long time since I looked at mms addresses, could paste a link in a reply to look at?
iTunes will recognize any stream in standard MPEG streaming format, such as those on Live365. Many Internet stations provide a choice of streaming format, one of which may be an MPEG audio stream and may have an iTunes icon. To play one of these streams in iTunes, you need to click on the Listen button on the stations web site. Depending on which browser you are using, the stream may start up immediately in iTunes or a small file with either an m4u or a pls extension will be downloaded to your default download location. Double-clicking on the file will start the stream.
Once the stream has played once in iTunes, you can restart it later from iTunes by clicking on its entry in the Library. I made a smart playlist with the condition "Kind is MPEG audio stream" with Live Updating to gather my streams together.
There is no way to add stations to the built-in radio playlist as that is really a page of links to a remote server.
Proprietary Windows Media and Real formatted streams need to be played in Windows Media Player and Real Player, respectively, although Microsoft is now recommending Flip4Mac (same link as WMP) to redirect Windows Media streams to quicktime, but I have had mixed results with streams using Flip4Mac.

"Mac OS X, Tiger Edition" by David Pogue (2005) briefly discusses the issue I raised on page 649ff. Under "The Software Base Station Effect," he says that a Mac with an AirPort card and an Ethernet or other connection to the internet (e.g. via DSL or cable modem) can serve as a "gateway" for other 802.11g equipped machines.
I've ordered a D-Link DWL-G650 802.11g Wireless Cardbus Adapter to install in the Dell laptop, and will see how it goes.

  • I want to listen to internet radio as I used to do. The selection "Radio" has gone from my list under "Music". How do I get it back again?

I want to listen to internet radio as I used to do. The selection "Radio" has gone from my list under "Music". How do I get it back again?

I don't know if this is what you really want, but I created a Playlist for Radio, and add some of the stations I like from websites. (If you click on the web-links they load into iTunes in the Sidebar). And you can also add individual Radio stations from the top right,(under Apple) to a Playlist. That's the only way I know to have them in the Sidebar.
Z_ZS-B, You also helped me to find the old Radio list! I didn't even know it was up on the right, under Apple. I haven't liked this version of iTunes so I hadn't even bothered to try and figure it out until now, but because I just bought a my first iPod Shuffle I'm determined to bend this version to my will. ;-)

  • Is there a way to use my iPod Nano to listen to a radio frequency with wireless headphones.  It tells me that I have to plug in my headphones to receive the stations and when I do, the wireless headphones don't work!

Is there a way to use my iPod Nano to listen to a radio frequency with wireless headphones.  It tells me that I have to plug in my headphones to receive the stations and when I do, the wireless headphones don't work!

No. I'm sorry. But, i think it uses the headphones as an antenna so it has to be plugged in to headphones in order to make it work. but, it burns the battery down so i don't use the radio function that much.

  • My iPad isn't locking automatically after I have been listening to iTunes Radio for a while what do I do? Thank you

My iPad isn't locking automatically when I listen to iTunes Radio for a while. I checked my auto lock settings and it is set to 2 minutes but it isn't locking when I listen to iTunes Radio

iTunes radio and Pandora are designed to play after the screen turns dark so you can listen to music without wasting energy on a lite screen. The main thing is that the screen goes dark after two minute. Also after listening to iTunes or Pandora when you are done be sure to double click the home button and swipe up to close the app.

  • Access to live radio on Safari with iPad

I cannot access live radio on given Websites on Safari with my iPad although I can easily with my MacBook Pro on the same websites. Anybody can explain why ? Setting problem ?

Those sites are probably Flash Sites which do not work on the iPad. There is no setting to change that.
Ther are many radio apps in the App Store, Pandora Radio, Tune in Radio, iHeart Radio. Look at some of them in the app store.
