Using ipad2 in hotels who only have Ethernet in rooms and not wifi

I am confused by some of the previous discussions.  If the hotel room only has an Ethernet cable docking station used for laptops is there any hardware I can plug into this to create a wifi router for my ipad2?
I will not have a laptop or macbook with me.  I will be travelling in the states from the uk. Thank you

You need a portable router. Apple makes a nice one called an Airport Express. I used one for my last trip to Japan where the hotels only seem to have ethernet. It can be configured directly from your iPad.
