Using iPad2, when receive photo in e-mail it now displays OLD photo that had been received and saved instead. Why and how to rectify?

This problem only applies when attempting to receive photos that were sent in special format from iPhoto. No problem receiving photos sent as attachment to normal e-mail.

You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. This person receiving my email, while on a Mac with Safari is reading their mail through Safari using Horde--our recent discovery. Why they chose to do that in unclear. It seems that telling them that our emails were coming from a Mac and using Apple Mail was enough to make them think that perhaps THEY were doing something not quite right. I have an issue with some PDF documents & some MS Office documents, notably MS Word when received in eMail as attachments not displaying properly on iPhones, iPad 2s & new iPads?
PDF docs - areas of the doc only show as grey splotches regardles of viewer
MS Word Docs -
inserted graphics don't display at all,
tables & lists especially with borders are broken &
tables & lists missing the borders &
tables & lists missing the 1st 1-2 lines of the lists/tables.
This is replicated on iPhone 4s, iPhone 4Ss, iPad 2s, iPad new (x2)
It certainly happens in iOS 5.1.1 & iOS 5.1
We believe it all worked aok in iOS 5.0.1(?) & prior
There is no problems reading/seeing these PDF & Word docs on anything other than iDevices.
This is rather critical for us & if not quickly fixed/rectified will prevent us from further purchases of these devices
Rolling back to iOS 5.0.1 or prior I believe isn't possible because of the BaseBand update(?) & isn't much of an option because of the quite noticeable Battery/Charging/WiFi improvements in 5.1 & 5.1.1

I logged a call with AppleCare & have since had explained why this occurs (some time ago)
I'll try to explain what was indicated to me.
iOS has a limited Font Set & this affects what PDFs can display. You need to use iOS supported fonts in your PDFs to see/read them properly

Regards MS office docs, iOS doesn't have much of an API to work with MS Office documents at all so is stuck with 3rd Party Apps to try to do it.
Unfortunately Mail in/on iOS uses the API to attempt to open/use MS Office attachments unless you tell it to use an App to open the attachment.
I have had success opening & reading MS office docs now with CloudOn, but find it slow & very awkward to use.
Not too sure if this helps others, but at least it explains why this is occurring

Depends.
If you go in System Preferences / Network, you will see a list of all the network interfaces your current configuration has. If you click on the gear icon next to the minus sign, the drop menu will offer "Set Service Order...". There you can prioritize the order of use: Ethernet above Wi-Fi and wireless will be ignored if Ethernet is available.
Note that the Wi-Fi card will remain active and associated with an access point nonetheless. It just won't be used for communications by the OS and apps.

IPhoto 11 - when receiving photos sent from iPhoto 11- can't reply...

My friend sent me photos directly from her iPhoto 11. When I went to reply to her email with the photos, I hit reply, but I am unable to type anything in. When I went to click out of Mail, it froze and I had to force quit.
I called another friend who also uses iPhoto 11, and had her send photos from iPhoto 11, also, so I could see if it was just happening with one person. Turns out, the same thing happens.
I open the email with the photos that were sent to me directly from iPhoto 11, and, again, I am unable to reply, and then, my Mail program freezes and I have to force quit.
Is anyone else having this problem? Try sending yourself photos directly from iPhoto 11 and see what happens.
(FWIW, I have iPhoto '09 ). My friends don't do the forums so I figured I'd post and try to find out what's wrong with iPhoto 11 and if it's a known issue. (they are both using iMacs- Mountain Lion)

No, it is not my email program. This has been tested out on other computers, as well. I spoke to a lot of folks who have iPhoto 11 and they said they have been having issues with people who can't reply to their emails ONLY when they send photos using iPhoto.
These same people sent me photos as attachments, sans use of iPhoto and no problem. They also tested it by sending photos via iphoto to other friends as well, and, those people also can not reply to them, either, be it on a Mac or a PC, yet, when the photos are inluded as attachments or drag and dropped in, the emails are able to be replied to.

FWIW, they also sent themselves photos via iPhoto and had the same problem. It's iPhoto 11.

Do you have PowerPoint? It's part of Microsoft Office 2011. You don't need anything to receive a PPT file via email, just to view it. Keynote can open PPT files. You can also use the freeware Libre Office to open PPT files.

I use yahoo when I go to yahoo mail via firefox the text is extremely large and I can not figure how to minimize it so I can continue to use Firefox.

When I am in Firefox and go into my Yahoo mail the mail's font is so large it does not even fit into the screen. I can not see where I can change the size. It is only when using Firefox I have this problem. I appreciate your help.

When receiving a new e-mail ; thunderbird is not responding for 20 sec and then working again

i just installed Thunderbird on my new desktop. Windows 8.1 . McAfee internet security.
It is working except when I am receiving a new email ; and in the process of clicking on the new email ; Thunderbird initially is not responding for 20 to 30 sec; then starts working again . Any recommendations ?

Iphone 4s does not download emails using imap when connecting to smartermail mail server

iphone 4s does not download emails using imap when connecting to smartermail v2 mail server.
when I search - the search results show and i can view the emails, but inbox doesnt download emails - says load more messages x read..
the folders are displaying ok.
Smartermail 2 is about 10 years old ( im not upgrading as its working fine other than this issue ) imap is fine with other mail clients.
has anyone else experienced this?

Received photos showing up as ?

When receiving photos from one friend they show up as ? marks, but the attachments are there and I can see them with "quickview". When I look at the mail from my phone I see the photos, likewise if I use Thunderbird. I tried under another user but same thing. It only happens from this one friend, all others that send photos show up ok.
An interesting thing. I forwarded them to myself. This time when I opened up the forwarded mail in Thunderbird they show up with ? marks, but the attachments are there. Any ideas?

This would not appear to be a true attachment header, but rather where an image, perhaps in a HTML text message has been converted by Outlook to be a JPEG -- image001 is a generated name, rather than a name under which it would have been filed before attaching, I am pretty sure. A normal header for a JPEG file would look like:

Mail not displaying attachments correctly

I wondered if anyone can help me out with the following please?
From time to time when receiving email attachment in mail I do not receive the attachment as a downloadable file, instead mail does not recognize the attachment and displays garbled text (See below sample).
This can happen with simple single Word files emailed to me and has happened with other file types such as PowerPoint and Jpegs. The problem is intermittent but is very irritating.
My ISP is AOL and I am running Panther on my MAC .
Incidentally my work around is to access the mail using AOL’s website and downloading the attachment from there.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue in mail? Thanks gang.

This next line of questions, and suggestion for things to observe, should not be pursued, without some feedback, and perhaps additional info. However, if some files leftover from when Panther and Mail 1.3 was used, are present, then the index file now used in Mail 2.0/2.1 may be corrupted, and if so, it will never impact every Mac, and its Mail exactly the same way.
Since your mailboxes, or at least some of them, originated in Panther, I want you to read the article at the link below, and get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes -- however, the problem is not usually as severe with xxxx.imapmbox folders, but can still be present:

This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger, which will be of the form, xxxx.imapmbox.
Also, please report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. For any On My Mac mailboxes, it is very important to compare the size of any file named "mbox" with that of the Messages folder. If the mbox is greater in size than the Messages folder, then not all messages have been converted to be in the Messages folder. Also, if any xxxx.mbox folder has more than one folder with Messages in its name, things are not what they should be.
The path to the Mail folder is Home/Library/Mail -- within the Mail folder are one or more account folders and the Mailboxes folder. Even though you are using IMAP, other mailboxes (On My Mac or POP) might still corrupt the Envelope Index that Mail 2.x now uses instead of separate index files in each mailbox.

I'm almost certain my phone is the problem. I have gone through resetting the network settings a dozen times on my phone, even did it on my dad's. Now my texts are beginning to do the same when I text my fiance.
Resetting the network settings DOES work -- the problem is it will work for a day or two or for only a few hours - then I'll have to do it all over again.
