Using IPads in public places.

I have a couple questions:
I work at a technical college and we have some IPads we are going to use in the library.  Is there any software or a software setting on the IPad that will use a kiosk or public mode?  We are going to let students check out IPads and use Microsoft Office 365.
Also, with Office 365 requires sign in usage of a Microsoft Account for Word, Excel, Powerpoint.  Is there a way to use this software to make sure data isn't saved to the IPad between student usage or does it require some other kind of kiosk software?

  • HT1620 So what do I need to know about  using my iPad on public networks, say restaurants, etc. Can I use passwords of any kind, or will I be compromised?

So what do I need to know about using my iPad mini on public networks, say in restaurants. Will I be compromised by using  passwords? What protects my iPad?

To date, the iPad/iPad mini/iPhone/iPod Touch produces have remained secure.
In a public place, you do not control the network, so be careful of what activities you perform, such as accessing your bank, or other sensitive places.
Just surfing and reading your email is generally speaking not a problem.  Hopefully, your email connections are over secure SSL connections.

  • Internet Cafe for Public Use using iPad

    Hi to all,
    Good day.
I'm planning to put up an internet cafe for public usage, as you can read at the topic i will use the iPad instead of PC or Mac.
Q1: Is there any app that can monitor the time consumed and how much the price to pay (this will automatically starts upon login)?
Q2: How to secure iPad from thief (we know iPad is too handy), is there any casing or accessories that we can lock-up the iPad in its place?
    Q#: Can anyone help me?
    Thanks

We did think about using the device as a "Shared Device" but we thought this would get over complicated, as the library has requested that the users can just pick it up and use it without any hassle. Which in an ideal world would be easy but alas, it is not!
We also thought about using Single App Mode and locking it into the AirWatch Secure Browser, where we could disable things like caching and saving usernames and passwords etc!
    Thanks for your reply!

  • Best place to buy a used iPad?

I know the discussion has included Ebay, Craigslist and an Apple refurb. But what is the previous iPad model so I know what to look for on these sites?  I don't need cell; only wifi. And do they sell refurbs on the Apple site or is there another site?

The only place to get devices refurbished by Apple is from the online Apple Store.
    As to iPad models, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5452
There aren't any truly "good" places to buy a used iPad other than from someone you know. Purchasing from any other seller is taking a risk, as you'll see if you peruse these forums for the number of threads where someone purchased a used iOS device only to find that it has Activation Lock and the seller can't be contacted or won't remove the lock. If you must buy a used iPad, at least buy from a vendor that has a return or dispute policy such as eBay or Amazon. I would avoid Craigslist like the plague; you have no recourse when purchasing from one of their ads.
    Regards.

Thank you in advance for your help because I don't want to take this back but if I can't figure out how to use it, I will have to.

  • Bought a used iPad mini, how do I register it?

I bought an iPad mini, how do I register it, when it appears under someone's else name

I am sure that if you have a word with the previous owner, you could assist him when he connects with itunes and help him to delete the device from his list.
Well Craigslist purchases are usually for cash and take place in some public place - you will never see the other party again. So, your well meant comment will most likely not work.
And, for the OP: exactly how do you know yours was not stolen? Since there is no nationwide database for stolen iDevices, it's merely a (true or false) assertion by the seller. And, Apple instituted the restrictions for the owner's protection - the previous owner must disassociate the device before you can associate it. I do believe that you should still be able to use it (presumably you do have the password if there was one set up); however, you will not be able to update or purchase anything as all of that is forever associated with the previous owner's Apple ID.

  • How to connect in public places?

    Hi,
My iBook has a Apple Extreme Card, which I use mainly at home. However, when I go to public places, how to connect to internet?
    Thks a lot.

Depends on the wireless hotspot you are at.
Usually from the Airport icon in the menu bar, select the hotspot name.
    You will then to either
    a) start surfing as this is an open free network
    b) enter the password which you will need to get from the owner of the hotspot
    c) open a browser (Safari) and log into the hotspot paying for it if required by credit card or pre-paid card

  • Can i use apple computer to place phone call?

can i use apple computer to place a
    phpne call?

If you have an iPhone with iOS 8 on the same wifi network as the computer, and the computer matches the specs required for Continuity and phone calls (i.e it is running Yosemite), then yes, yes you can.
    Phone calls
With Continuity, you can make and receive cellular phone calls from your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac when your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
To make and receive phone calls, here's what you need:
Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices, including your Mac.
Your iPhone and your iPad or iPod touch need to use iOS 8 or later. Your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
All devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
All devices must be signed in to FaceTime using the same iCloud account. This means any device that shares your Apple ID will get your phone calls. Look below for instructions on how to turn off iPhone cellular calls.
Wi-Fi Calling needs to be off. Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support

  • How can I use ipad 2 in India?which was bought in US.

  • How safe is my iPad on public Wi-Fi?

I want to use my iPad in public locations, such as coffee shops.  I have private and financial information on the iPad.  Is it safe to use?  Do I need to encrypt it or take other steps to safeguard my information and avoid hacking?

Can a person safely use free wi-fi for just checking sites out such as mail and Facebook or should I just stick with my phone and use the data plan?
For the most part, yes. Most email sites (check on your home WIFI to be certain) and FB use secure sockets and encrypt the data. There is zero chance that anyone would expend the effort to decrypt your data stream to get your email credentials. Your bank most definitely will use encryption making the transfer of data safe.
What you have to watch for is someone spoofing the web address of your destination by using a bogus DNS server when you acquire your IP address for the public WIFI. Make certain that any sites you visit that should be secure are running the HTTPS protocol (it will show in the address bar). There is a slight risk of a spoofed certificate but the chances of that are extremely remote.

  • How to make a photo album book using iPad?

I bought an iPad so I could organize all my digital photos, create photo albums by trip or event and order hard copy books (similar to what u can do using iPhoto). Is the third part possible using iPad? Does software available through snapfish or my publisher work on the iPad? Will iPhoto be available in the future to iPad users? Any help in how I can achieve this goal appreciated!  Thanks!

I have the exact same question.  Many of my family members are elderly and would enjoy a printed photobook.  My Ipad seems like the perfect place to create this sort of album and then have it printed.  However, the only app I have found is the HP Photobook Lite app.  The app is very limited, limited backgrounds,  frames, shadows etc.  Also, the only option for printing is magcloud which prints a soft copy magazine type photobook.
Have you found anything that will offer the ability to create a beautiful photobook quickly?  I also saw an app called Bookfactory, however, it is Swiss so I think it will not be in English and I do not know if they will ship to the US or the cost.  Here is a link http://itunes.apple.com/ch/app/bookfactory/id434614668?mt=8
Please keep me in the loop if you find something.

  • Wi-fi in public place

I am unable to connect to wi-fi while using my touch in a public place but my friend is sitting next to me and hers is connected all the time. I can't see where any of our settings are different so I don't understand what the problem is. Any suggestions?

Is it a "remembered" network? If so, forget the network (in Settings), turn off Wifi, turn Wifi back on, and rediscover the network.
If that does not work, restart your iPod. I mean hold the top button until you get the option to power off, then power it back on, and try.

I need help verifying the details of a used ipad mini I'm about to buy. Is this possible by just providing the serial

It depends on what you mean by "verifying the details".  sberman gave you the best place to look to research the technical specifications of the device you are thinking of purchasing. If, however, you're asking how to check if the device is Activation Locked, then you can check the status here: https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/
