Using iPhone in everywhere which bought in the U.S.

Question

I bought an iPhone 4s in the U.S. They told me I can use it in everywhere, coz the phone is unlock. But now I am in Taiwan, I can't use it. I try to called the Taiwan apple service, they said I should jailbreak it. I heard afrer jailbreak, I can't update new software. So, what should I do now?? Thanks

Dont jailbreak!
Refer to your sales receipt, you got at purchase and chaeck, if it says your phone should be unlocked or locked. If it is older it might have an AT&T SIM lock. If so contact the carrier (AT&T) for unlock. If it is supposed to be unlocked, contact the AppleRetailStore, where you bought it and have them process the unlock, because they do not always do it automatically if you dont request it.
