Using iPhone on long plane flight
I'll be flying across country Friday. Don't know if there's any way to charge iPhone on plane. Really want to be able to listen to music/watch videos and don't know if battery will last long enough. Have original iPhone with 2.0 upgrade.
If you use Airplane Mode you should be ok on a cross country flight (although you didn't say which country!), especially if you turn down the screen brightness. Music will last you longer than video, which taxes the processors.
As far as charging - it all depends on the airline you are using, your class of service (First Class will have the best chance of being able to charge), and the type of airplane you are flying on.
For example, Virgin America has USB connections in every seat. They are probably the most-friendly in the US in this regard.
You'll have to check with your airline, but assuming you're flying a US airline I'd say unless you're in First Class your chances are slim to none that you'll be able to charge. Keep it fully charged at the airport right up until you're ready to board.

I purchased at the airport last week before a long haul flight the MagSafe Airline Adappter so I couod keep working on the MacBook Air without fear of the battery running out before I had completed the necessary work. The shop assistant assured me the kit worked on all planes but......the socket on the flight, both outbound and inbound, was the normal female 2 pin/3 pin socket that I used to use for my old thinkPad. What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something obvious here

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I understand your point and have indeed separated them. Since sending the message I have visited the Apple Store to check the picture of the accessory in case I was missing something and I wonder if I am missing the 20mm adapter but, over and above that, I just dont see the right size/shape empower port socket in the plane seat, only the traditional 3 pin/2 pin sockets. I wonder if the salesman was selling me a pig in the poke because the Apple Store also says that it fits some commercial airlines whereas the salesman told me it worked in all flights. I suspect I will need to go to the airline companies direct to see which planes have this particualr Empower port. In the meantime I am tempted to ask for my money back. Geoff -

If you are using the internet then it's eating away at your data plan, irrespective of your Apple ID.

I live in Canada and am a complete newbie when it comes to cell phones and data plans. I am not interested in having or paying for cellular telephone capability.
I've been using the 64 Gb iPod Touch 4 but detest its 0.7 Mb still camera and bemoan its lack of GPS.
Now that the iPhone 4S has been released, there are many folks selling their older iPhone 4s. I'd love to use one of these older iPhone units with their better camera and GPS capability, but don't want to pay for a data plan, nor am I willing to pay $850 for an unlocked iPhone 4S. I'm happy to continue using wireless internet and don't need a cell phone.
Being a newbie when it comes to data plans and cell phones, if I purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone:
1. Does it need a SIM card (activated or not) to use the GPS on it? If yes, must a deactivated SIM card be provided by the seller or where can I obtain one?
2. Does the iPhone 4 need to be on a cellular plan to use the GPS?
3. I can use a deactivated iPhone 4 on WiFi only as I've been doing with the iPod Touch 4, correct?
4. If I can use a deactivated, non-contract iPhone 4 on WiFi only, will the GPS work and allow me to use GPS-enabled apps? If yes, does it somehow still "tie"into available local cell networks to achieve a position without me paying for (or being registered for) cellular access?
5. Can future iOS upgrades (say to iOS5) still be performed on a deactivated iPhone 4 without a cell plan?
6. Do I need to purchase the iPhone 4 from a Canadian seller given my above questions? What other questions do I need to ask of the seller when looking for a used iPhone 4?

I do use offline maps (topographical and street maps) on my iPod Touch 4 outdoors (not needing a signal, WiFi or cellular). I also have a hand-held Garmin GPS receiver but would rather use the GPS in the iPhone (its positional accuracy, while likely being lower than that obtained from my Garmin, is likely sufficient for my needs).
I guess that one of the questions that I was asking is if I were to purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone, and the SIM card have been removed, would the device's GPS still work with GPS-enabled apps (albiet without the cellular-assist)?
Can any pay-as-you-go SIM card be purchased for and used in a deactivated iPhone4? Would this even be necessary for the GPS?

Apple doesn't have anything to do with this other than enforcing the DRM protection. The developers of this content expect to be paid if someone wants to use their content. When you purchase content in the app store, you purchase a license to use the content. This license does not permit you or anyone else to resell or give this content away. The individual you purchased the phone from simply does not have the right to sell or give away any purchased content on the phone. You were deceived.

Can you get an iphone 5 at target that uses AT&T or Verizon network and use the Straight Talk plan from Walmart? I don't have AT&T or Verizon network and I don't want to get them but I was just wondering if you can get the iphone 5 that is at target and use it for the straight talk plan. I will be getting the straight talk plan but I would like to do some research on the iphone 5 first for straight talk. At walmart the phone is $544.99 and I think it will be a lot cheaper to buy it at target.
Thank You!When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I just upgraded my mac with Mountain Lion and turned on iCloud. Now all of the music stored on my mac shows up on my iphone. My question is, if I listen to this music on my iphone am I using up my data plan?
No, if you are using the Music app you are playing them on your iPhone.
