Using iphone w/itunes on different computers

I am going on vacation and want to take my new macbook. I hope to be able to transfer music from the new macbook to my iphone (which is already linked to my imac) but so far no luck. Does anyone know a way to do this? Thanks!

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred to an iPhone via the iTunes sync process from a single computer only.
When syncing iTunes content and transferring photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased first.
If you want to sync iTunes content with your new MB without losing the iTunes content on your iPhone that was transferred from your iMac, you need to transfer your iTunes library from your iMac to your MB, and the same for photos if you want to transfer photos from your MB to your iPhone.

  • Using a ipod with two different computers...

I just bought a new laptop and had to download itunes again but when i hook up my ipod it tells me that that ipod is already synced with another computer (my main desktop comp.). Is there a way to use my ipod with two different computers, or can you just use one computer at a time?
    thanks!

You can use more than one computer, but you'll have to load your iPod MANUALLY if you do, otherwise it will keep erasing things to match the library it's hooked up to.

Hello! Just connected a used iPhone to iTunes for the first time. I'm trying to restore it to factory settings/default. The phone is connected via Wi-Fi and is updated to the most recent OS that the phone allows. The computer is also connected to the internet. But I still get the error: "itunes could not contact the iphone software update server because you are not connected to the internet." I also connected via iTunes and authorized the computer, but still have the same issue. Really, all I need to do is completely wipe the phone and start from scratch for safety's sake.
    Help?

Did you check your security software settings?

  • Trouble using itunes on different computers at home

How can I get all my music from one computer on to another. Any time I try to sync my ipod it wants to wipe wants currently on my file.

Make sure that both computers are connected to the same network. Launch iTunes on both computers.
From the Advanced menu turn on Home Sharing using the same Apple ID on both computers.
At the computer that you want to move your music too select the shared library of the computer that currently holds the music. You will find the remote computer listed on the sidebar under the heading Shared. This should load the list of music from the remote computer. Select all the tracks from the remote computer and then click on the Import button in the bottom-right corner of the iTunes window.

I understand that you can use up to 5 different computers with an I product but I can't get my Itunes to show up on more than the first one I used it one. How do I do this multiple computer thing?
    Thanks in advance!

Simple word of advice. Put itunes on an external drive rather than use internal memory. then wherevevr you are and whatever computer you are using all you need is the external drive

  • Can I use my CC plan on different computers?

Hi, I had purchased an Individual CC plan. I wish to know whether I can use my Adobe ID on different computer to enjoy my CC features. etc: After I logout from my PC, can I login ID on my laptop to continue using my CC features?

Yes, I have the software installed on 3x PCs. Only two can be signed in at a time. When you try to sign into a 3rd you will have the option to sign out of all other devices. It works great but this is kind of a pain if you switch back and forth regularly.
    Adobe!
May I suggest/request upping the maximum number of PCs you can be signed into to say 5x computers? This would still be an individual license where you're only using 1 at a time, but signing out and back in constantly is getting to be a pain.

  • Playing iPhone Thru iTunes on Different Different Computers

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having a problem playing the songs on my iPhone thru any but the computer it's synced to. All the songs are greyed out. None of the songs are from the iTunes store so I'm thinking I should not have to authorize any other computers to play. With my iPod I just connect it to any computer and am able to play the songs off of it thru iTunes and I'd like to be able to do the same with my iPhone. Any assistance would be appreciated...
    Thanks

Unlike the iPod, when under manual control, the iPhone will only play off the library it is synced with when connected to a computer.
I tried this myself and discovered that, even though Apple gave us a little more control of our iPhone library through manual control with an update, but they still have it protected and set up so it can only work with one library.
My example is, I sync my iPhone with my Mac at home. I tried to connect it to my PC at work, and all my information showed up, songs, everything. But it was grayed out, so I couldn't use it.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes on different computers with one external harddisc

The iTunes music folder is on an external hard disc. It should be used on two Computers. And the contents of the librarys should be the same.
Though the iTunes music Folder is set to the external disc,iTunes is not able to find the files. Why ?
    - If the external folder is imported all files appear twice ...

If you're using the command in the Advanced preferences to set the iTunes Music location, that doesn't transfer the music unless you use the Consolidate command, and never transfers the iTunes library files, so a different computer will have a completely different set of library files.
To have a common set of library files and content, you need first to be using iTunes 7. Drag the entire iTunes folder (containing the iTunes library fles as well as the iTunes Music folder) to the external hard drive.
Then hold down the Shift key while launching iTunes. You'll be given a dialog box where you can select the iTunes library you want to use. Navigate to and select the iTunes folder in it's new location. Move the hard drive to the second computer and repeat.

  • IPhone administration with 2 different computers

I have 2 machines one laptop at home and an iMac at work. Both are my machines that I have paid for. My home computer has all my music on and I have paid for all of that myself (no illegal music). I could be wrong here but it appears that my iPhone is locked once synced with the home machine. So when I get to work if I decide I want purchase some music/video, play some music through iTunes to the Airport or do any administration to the iPhone in anyway the only way to do this is to sync it to my work machine. Thus losing all my files.
Can anyone tell me otherwise? If there isn't a way of doing this, then can anyone explain the logic as my old Touch was able to play any track from my library through the iTunes interface to my Aiport speaker set up.

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you have to change the update preference to "manually manage songs and playlists:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • IPhone movie purchases through different computers

    Hi,
I have my home computer (windows xp) set as my default iPhone library, however, I have purchased a movie through my work computer (windows xp). How do I sync my movie to my iphone without delete all my home based music etc. Both computers are authorised. I don't want to use my work computer as my default library, but I prefer to download big items from work as it saves my home bandwidth limit.
    Thanks

Since both computers are authorized, drag the movies from your work computer's iTunes library to the disk icon of an external hard drive or a USB thumb drive connected to the computer. Connect the hard drive to your home computer, and drag the movies from the external HD to your home computer's iTunes library.

  • Why can't I use my Ipad on 2 different computers

I have my Ipad on Itunes in my reg computer why will it not sync on my 2nd computer my laptop to travell with.

Theoretically you would be able to do this if .... the iTunes libraries on both computers were identical and constantly in sync with each other.
And technically - it will sync with the other computer - but it will erase everything that was synced from the first computer.
The iPad and all iDevices are designed to sync with one iTunes library at a time and only one. The smart thing to do would be to combine the two iTunes libraries on one computer - the one that you use most often - and just sync with that one computer.

  • Connecting a used iPhone with iTunes for the first time

When i bought my 5s end of last year i switched it on coming out of the box, without connecting it to iTunes. I started making back-ups to iCloud.
Now i want to connect it to iTunes to make a back-up, but iTunes thinks it's a new device and only proposes me either to restore an old back-up, or to start using the device "as new".
I'm afraid of losing everything chosing that last option, and the last back-up on my iMac must be one of my iPhone 4 so i wouldn't want that either.
Now how can i make a back-up with iTunes in that case?

not sure if you read what i wrote..
iTunes only proposes me to either restore an old back-up, or to start using the device "as new".
So it's not possible to click any backup button in this case

  • Using and iPod with 2 different computers

As a new iPod user, I am looking for some help!
Currently, I use iTunes and my iPod with an external hard disc, where my entire library is stored, and my laptop. Now, I would like to use this hard disc with a second computer as well.
Should I move "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" from "C" (my laptop's hard disc) to my external hard disc, and then chose the manual synchronisation between iTunes and iPod?
Thanks in advance for the advice!!!

    Hello podwalker,
Should I move "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes
Music Library.xml" from "C" (my laptop's hard disc)
to my external hard disc, and then chose the manual
    synchronisation between iTunes and iPod?
Yes, I believe that would be the thing to do. Be sure
to set your manual syncronization for both
    computers.
If you connect your iPod to a new computer (that now
would have iTunes on it), however, it may display
"this iPod is connected to another computer, would
you like to replace the content?". Be sure to click
    on "NO", and not "yes".

    Thanks iPodnano_1GB!
Does someone know if I have to create a folder "My music/iTunes" on my external disc and then copy "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" documents there? How can iTunes know that "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" are to be found at this new location?
Is there anything else I should know about this topic?
