Using iphoto 6 (importing from cd)

I have installed iphoto 6 and all seemed OK. When I imported some old photos from a cd I had made some time ago (sometime last year) I found
that I had 2 copies and in one case 3 copies of the same picture and it appears that the only difference is the size (by one kb ). All other detail seems to be the same. ( ie name, date, time etc.)
I deleted the smaller ones in each case and the number in the library went down. Can anyone advise why this is happening? (other imports seem OK).

When you listen to a CD through iTunes you are playing it in it's original uncompressed format at it's highest quality. Of the various options iTunes gives, AAC (MP4) and MP3 are compressed formats so you lose some quality but gain space. AIFF (CD) and WAV are uncompressed so you gain quality at the expense of space. Apple Lossless falls somewhere in between, doesn't compress as much as AAC and MP3 so you gain some space but not as much, however it is claimed to give a quality which is the equal to CD. You can read more on different formats at these links:

  • When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder, what happens if I delete the photo in Iphoto ? Will the original file in the folder be deleted too?

When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder to iphoto, what happens if:
    1. I delete that photo in iphoto? will the original file in the folder be deleted too ?
    2.  when importing, does the hard disk store 2 versions of the photo, hence occupying additional space in the harddisk?

1 - no  --  iPhoto only manages fiel within the iPhoto library - it does not ever do anything with files outside the library
2 - No idea what you are asking - by default (and strongly recommended) iPhoto copies the original to the iPhoto library and you delete the source file outside the iPhoto library - iPhoto alwasy has at least two versions of every photo and some times three - it always have the original, a thumbnail and once a photo is modified a preview - this is not optional - if it is not what you want then iPhoto is not the correct progrtam to be using for phopto management

  • Used iPhoto to import and delete some pictures, but they are still consuming ~6GB of space on phone according to iTunes

I have imported a bunch of photos over the years from iPhone to computer using iPhoto, selecting the option to delete them from the phone after import.  iPhoto says I have 458 items on the phone.  When I go into the Camera app, it says that there are 458 items on the Camera Roll.  But when I go to the iTunes sync screen, it says 1458 photos are taking up 9.14 GB, which would be about right if the deleted pictures aren't really deleted.  iTunes says that the phone has 1.34GB free, which agrees with what Settings->General->Usage->Storage tells me.  I tried powering off the phone and doing a reset, but it still says 11.9GB are in use on the phone...
I deleted the pictures because I was worried about running out of space, but it now appears that I don't have the pictures OR the free space!  How do I get the deleted pictures to give up their space on the phone?

I'm simply trying to get enough space to update my 5s because of the whole thing where you're phone needs room to install an update. I deleted over 100 songs off of my iPhone while in iTunes on my computer. I decided to sync to see if it would show up, but all that did was add the apps from other people's devices in my house. Then I disconnected and my phone froze. I plugged it back in, got the apple logo and it loaded again, but still it showed 825 songs on my iPhone while according to iTunes, I have 666 songs on my iPhone. What do I do?
All I wanted was to update my iPhone but as usual, Apple makes things 10x more complicated than they need to be.
Apple isn't making this 10x more complicated you are.
If you deleted the music why are you syncing back apps from other user on your computer?
Have you tried deleting the music directly from your phone and then update over the air?

  • Is there an easy way to use MOVE when importing from card reader?

In Lightroom 1, I would hit File -> Import From Disk which would allow me to move photos from my card reader to the hard drive.
In Lightroom 3, the only option is the normal import dialog and in order to get the "Move" option I have to select "other source" and then scroll down the list to select the card reader in order to get the "Move" option.  It's a pain to do it every time.  (not to mention my wife will never do it and just use "copy").
So my question is, "Is there a way to get the Move option to be available by default on my card reader?"
It's been my workflow since 2004 to have the images deleted directly after I copy them off the memory card using Adobe software (Photoshop Album 2.0, Photoshop Elements 4, Lightroom 1.0).  I'm really hoping there is an easy way to accomplish this in Lightroom 3. Otherwise I will be pretty disappointed.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    brianbjork wrote:
The reason I like the move command so much is that I know when photos are on my memory cards that the are not on my computer.
LR defaults to not importing suspected duplicates.  so if there are still files on the card, they will be grayed out. That's how you can know.

What do you all use in your work flow to delete the pictures left on your memory cards after they are copied?
I have a shell file that removes the files from the card and ejects the disk.  I keep it in my dock for easy access.
Others will tell yiou, though, to format in camera. Which is a good idea! I just like to keep my cards empty and ready.

  • IPhoto not importing from Quick Look

iPhoto does not import from Quick Look.
    • Sometimes the image will check in Quick Look, iPhoto starts up, but nothing imports.
    • Other times, the item appears already checked when it open in Quick Look, but same result, nothing in iPhoto.
This happens with old images, new images, a just saved screen shot for example.
I have reinstalled iLife, repaired Permissions, scrapped the iPhoto Library and let iPhoto create a new one with defaults. Nothing has worked.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks

And with no configuraton changes, just plugging in the iPad [after walking around a bit] and the import worked as expected - nice that is works, bad that it is not consistant :-/

  • Using Aperture to import from an iPhoto picture disk?

I saved a large collection of photos from another Mac on iPhoto DVDs that I would like to install a new Mac, but not in the iPhoto library, since I will be using Aperture. How may I most effectively get the photos from the iPhoto disk onto my new Mac in the organization I had on the other Mac? The iPhoto library folders of originals isn't organized the same way it's presented in iPhoto, but I really don't want to have to import into iPhoto, then export onto HD folders and then import into Aperture. Yet, I also don't want simply to copy 5,000 original photo files onto this computer and have to reorganize 7 years of photos by hand again.
Can Aperture import directly from this DVD? I didn't see how ...
    Thanks!

Sorry - but no, iTunes hasn't the capability to import/record from line in.
For that you have to use an application like "CD Spin Doctor" (that's included in Toast) or another similar application.

  • Photos not appearing in iPhoto when importing from SD card

On the first instance of using my camera to import photos to iphoto, I used the SD card reader integral on the new iMACs; this worked fine - all photos appeared, I selected import and there they were. Since then, when I insert the SD card, it appears on the desktop and iPhoto launches. Iphoto then shows all the photos on the card that were previously imported, but not any new photos taken. If I open the SD card itself, the new pictures are there. So, why is Iphoto now not recognising new photos that I've taken?

Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • IPhoto stopped importing from iPhone

I have been importing photos from my iPhone 4 into iPhoto '11 with no issues.  Then yesterday something weird happeded.  My iPhone shows up in iPhoto and it does not display the photos on the phone just dotted oulines (see screen shot below).  If I click to import one it says it is in the wrong format.  How do I resolve this issue.  (I have closed iPhoto, I've re-booted my iPhone (photos show up fine on the phone), I've reset my settings in iTunes so that the phone syncs photos from iPhoto to the phone)

I don't know of a fix but I do know a work around. If you have ios 5 or higher, turn on photostream. If the photos are in your camera roll but not in your photostream, pull up the photo to view, then edit it, even it you make no changes to it at all. WHen done edidting save to camera roll again and it will save to photostream as well and then you can use photostream on the Mac to import to the iPhoto.

  • Using iPhoto after transferring from a PC...

I just transfered my files from PC to mac and I was wondering is there a way to make sub folders inside events to organize photos better?
Also where is the Photos folder for iPhoto on the hard drive? I can't find it anywhere.

This is what Larry is referring to about folders, subfolder and albums:
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Using WMP to import from iTunes

Can you import music to Windows Media Player?

    msheppey wrote:
Can you import music to Windows Media Player?
Yes I can. Any other questions?
Ha, ha. Actually I am not sure what you are asking, but I will take a few stabs:
If you have MP3s in your iTunes library, yes you can add them to your Windows Media Library. You can set WMP to do this automatically if you wish.
If you have purchased DRM-protected files from the iTunes Music Store, no you cannot add them to WMP (or any other non-Apple program for that matter).
If you have CDs, yes you can use WMP to rip them.
Did that answer what you are asking?

  • Using ITunes to import from analog

Since buying an Apple laptop for my wife, I've been hooked to iTunes. In the "main" Windows XP PC, I downloaded iTunes. Other than some problems with remote Airport station (only from Windows), the program has exceeded my expectation. (My next main computer will be Apple.)
I would love to remove Music Match from my hard drive, except it has one function unavailable to iTunes? I have a collection of vinyl (remember those?) that I would like to convert to mp3 or mp4 and Music Match has that capability.
Does iTunes have that capabilty to import analog audio or is there a "plug in" available?

Sorry - but no, iTunes hasn't the capability to import/record from line in.

  • In aperture 3 and Iphoto '09, import from show iphoto browser doesn't work

when I choose  Import/Show Iphoto Browser, I get the browser blank, with the sentence "no items to show". What to do?

so I deleted the iPhoto library (under projects & albums) from within Aperture and this removed all the photos that I just imported. I'm bit confused because if I imported them into Aperture then why would they still be linked to an iPhoto library.
When you imported them they are put in a Folder called iPhoto Library. You can drag them out of that. But because you deleted the Folder, they were deleted too.

  • Problem using iPhoto via NAS from 2 computers

I have an iPhoto library stored on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive on my home wireless LAN. My wife and I each have a MacBook that we use to open the library from the NAS. I recently added some photos to the library using my MacBook. When I open the same library from my wife's MacBook, I cannot see all of the photos. In fact, the list of Events that you see when I open the library from my MacBook is very different from what we see when we open the same library from her MacBook. When I open it I can see 497 photos, but when she opens it we can only see 70 photos.
Can anyone help with this issue? Thank you!!

would I be able to use the photos across the network?
What do you mean by “use”? Certainly wireless is perfectly good for viewing another Library via iPhoto Sharing.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to the other machine. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both machines for this to work.
If, however, you want the other two machines to have full access - i.e. Ownership - of the Library, then bluntly, I would not trust my iPhoto Library on a wireless connection.
