Using iPhoto after photo transfer

As a novice to Mac, I have recently learned how to transfer photos into iPhoto from my mobile. However, once imported my photographs are smaller than normal screen size. Can they be edited to full screen size. I have tried increasing the slider to maximum, but they still don't fill the screen. Can anyone assist please?
Mac OSX   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi dianej
The reason your photos are not filling the screen is probably because your mobile is sending very small pixel dimensions. If you look at the information in iPhoto, it will tell you the size. Click on the "i" button to bring up the info window. Size displayed on the screen depends on the pixel size the photo is saved. If your screen resolution is for instance 1200 x 900, then the photo would have to be the same size in order to fill the screen. Your photo is probably in the range of 600x 400 which is a low resolution. Screen size probably would equate to about a 4" x 3" picture on the screen. Magnifying it using the slider button will enlarge it only so much. To get the photo to fill the screen, it would have to be saved in a higher resoultion which you probably can't do with a mobile phone. You can use another program to edit and change the pixel size, but enlarging a low resoulution photo to a high resolution photo will have to add a lot of pixels which will have to blend in resulting in a poor quality photo.
Also, in order to fill the screen exactly, you would have to make sure the image size is the same proportion as the screen. Different screens have different width and height.

Cannot access my photos at WD using iPhoto after Mavericks!

    Did it.
iPhoto opens nicely but without the photos:-(
However I can reach the them by: WD > iPhoto Library and then right click Show Package Content > Originals
All the photos are there and reachable manually.
I am guessing that there should be a software patch/update by either Apple or WD to bridge the photo portfolio at the external disk and the iPhoto.
    Thanks your efforts.

Try designating a System Photo Library. Then your apps will use that.

  • Can't use iPhoto after newest update on brand new computer!?

I just bought my macbook white yesterday. Installed all of the newest updates (14) and everything works except iPhoto. The first time I clicked on iPhoto, this is what I saw:
    _1st error_:
*The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.*
Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.
+However, _nothing happens_ when I click on upgrade! It pops to this:+
    _2nd error_:
    *The application iPhoto quit unexpectedly.*
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
    Please help!

    Hi TD -
Thanks for the pointers. I'm totally new to macs, so still learning!
I did 1 & 2, and then created a new account. iPhoto works in the new account, so I guess it is a problem in the main account...but I don't know what to do from here.
Any more help would be greatly appreciated to try to solve this issue. Thanks!
edit: *actually, I think I just solved it.*
    Based on this disscussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2029584&tstart=0
    Steps taken:
    1. hold down the ALT (option) key
    2. click icon to open iPhoto
    3. choose the default library (note: it was the only library listed, and I didn't have anything in my library b/c I'd never launched iPhoto before). +*Didn't have to rebuild anything.*+
Result? It immediately loaded and seems to work fine now!
    Thanks!

  • How to use iphoto after yosemite 10.10.3, that have disabled it for new photo app?

My iMac did install new yosemite 10.10.3 telling me that new Photo app was "best ever" but now I can't open old iPhoto library because it was in old format of iPhoto library and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??

and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??
Which version of iPhoto do you have installed?  With Yosemite, MacOS X 10.10.3, you need to update iPhoto to version 9.6.1.  Only that version is fully compatible.
Apple stopped selling iPhoto, but anyone who bought iPhoto from the AppStore or updated it to a version sold at the App Store (iPhoto 9.4.5 or later) will be able to reinstall from the App Store by downloading from the Purchases tab.
If you have any version of iPhoto, that has been updated from the AppStore and is associated with your Apple ID, try to reinstall from the "Purchases" page.
Unhide iPhoto, if it is hidden on your Purchases page (See this link: Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases)
Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash.
Reload your Purchases page at the App Store with ⌘R
    Then download from that page.
The step "Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash."  must not be skipped. If Spotlight sees a version of iPhoto installed, the AppStore will try to update instead of reinstall, which does not work.

  • Using iPhoto after transferring from a PC...

I just transfered my files from PC to mac and I was wondering is there a way to make sub folders inside events to organize photos better?
Also where is the Photos folder for iPhoto on the hard drive? I can't find it anywhere.

This is what Larry is referring to about folders, subfolder and albums:
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Issues printing with iPhoto after installing OS X 10.10.2

After working with 2nd and 3rd level Apple Support I was able to print photos using iPhoto after installing OS X 10.10.2. I have an HP 7520 all in one ePrinter and the latest Yosemite driver have been installed. When I tried to print a photo using iPhoto the application would hang and I had to force quit to continue. Apple support was able to identify the problem. The iPhoto application had an outstanding print job listed in the Recent heading on the left side of the screen, I do not know how this happened, but after clearing out this print job I was able to print from iPhoto. The Apple Support person said I could avoid this problem by hitting the cancel button located near the print button on the bottom of iPhoto, after any print activity had finished. He said this was a known problem when using iPhoto and Yosemite.

    EW,
Kernel Panics here on the same model. My problems started after the recent Firmware Update for Airport and Airport Expresses (7.6). No other new software installed besides the Firmware Update and they are occurring daily.
I haven't seen any remedies yet....

  • Solution is to keep using iPhoto?

I have been using Photos for several weeks now and my solution is to keep using iPhoto until Photos becomes feature complete with iPhoto.
I loaded photos eagerly onto another Mac at our house to test it out.  It all imported correctly, but it is clearly much harder to navigate than iPhoto.  Like a lot of users, we have 400 GB of mostly photos and 100GB of videos from a variety of cameras over the years.  We had dutifully organized them using Events and added location data to use the mapping feature.  We trained Faces as well and even started to use keywords in a larger way.  Scans have mostly been tagged (just a few relative to the library of 40k images)
Photos still has all of that, but navigating it is much more difficult.  I found all of our events stuffed into an iPhoto Events folder as a large list.  There seems to be  no way to view these folders in the logical time oriented layout with the carefully selected Key Photos we had before.  Albums were used to select fewer pictures for export or sharing or other projects.  We knew we could always go back to the Event which contained the masters and had ALL of the pictures from the vacation.  Sporadic moments don't make sense for a 3 week vacation, I want all of those in one vacation location.  When we go back to the same place, I end up with Christmas at Grannies 2014, Christmas at Grannies 2013, etc.  Easy to find and tag with a location.
Our non iPhone cameras are current, but don't have GPS.  Importing images after a trip was as simple as Import images to an Event, select the whole event with one click, and type in a location.  Magically all of the images for 3 weeks were tagged with Grannies house as a location.
Photos does a lot of new stuff, but the cloud is not the place for 400gb of photos that are pretty much organized but don't all need to be there.  I don't care about getting to all of them from my iPad.  Nice, but we selectively share as a lot of people seem to.
My solution is to go back to a backup (pre conversion) and keep using iPhoto until Apple finishes Photos.
GPS editing is required and probably coming.
Moments is useful, but not as good as doing them by hand.  Just being able to collect a bunch of Moments into an Event would be more useful.
Time based sorting helps to organize things, but once you are past that, Family Spring Break is a better organization.  Especially after a few years when I have no idea when a vacation was other than summer of some year.
Albums are nice but primitive.  Technically the same as Events, but automatic sorting would be nice so we can have some time ordering of them and the cover image is nice be able to change when there are 300 images in that event.
I am sure Apple is listening and they are working hard.  Trying to be supportive because Lightroom is a beast and there is not really anything else anymore.

  • Cannot update my iPhoto after upgrading to Yosemite

27" iMac, 2.93 GHz i7 processor, Yosemite 10.10.  Can no longer use iPhoto after upgrading.  I get a message that this update is not available for this Apple ID because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.  How do I fix this?

You must be logged in using the Apple ID used to purchase iPhoto or to set up your Mac - If you are logged in with the Apple ID that was used to purchase iPhoto or to set up the computer if it came preinstalled then quit iPhoto, backup your iPhoto library  and drag the iphoto application to the trash (do not empty the trash yet) and then go to the App store and install iPhoto
If this does not allow you to upgrade then you need to contact App store support  - link i son the right of the app store window

  • Suggestion to iPhoto choosing photo enhancement

In my normal flow to use iPhoto:
    import photo from camera
choose photo and delete blur, duplicate and blinking eye
    rename event
I found the most slow part is choosing photo. iPhoto can open a photo in full screen and just press right arrow to next photo, but it is notifiable slow if press left arrow to previous photo. and it cannot place two photo side by side compare.
I suggest iPhoto should have ability to help us compare similar photo and delete undesire one quickly.

iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback is the route to the developers.
That said, Select two photos and click on the Edit button. What happens?
