Using iPhoto for organizing and another program for editing

I really like iPhoto for organizing my photos. The tags/comments along with smart albums are amazing. The problem is that I would like to edit the photos externally to iPhoto. I am wondering if there is a way to edit your photos externally but still use iPhoto to organize them? Would iPhoto still be able to allow the external program to edit the photo nondestructively?
I am looking to use Gimp (using X11) to edit my photos.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is a caveat to using a 3rd party editor from within iPhoto. If Gimp is capable of creating layered files and/or changes the extension to its own after extensive editing you must take some precautions so as not to lose those edits.
Any time the 3rd party editor requires a change of extension due to the editing you must either flatten the image and/or force a save as a jpg with the same original file name OR do a Save As to the desktop and import that file as a new one. Otherwise you run the chance of saving the edited file and not have iPhoto know it exists.

I've been using Iphoto as a primary download program for years. As of today, when I click a thumbnail to open the photo, I get a black screen with an exclamation mark on some shots. Also, these shots can't be dragged into Adobe Bridge. Would love help!

I use Iphoto as my primary download tool, then drag images into Adobe Bridge. Just today, when I tried to open a photo by clicking a thumbnail, all I got was an image of an exclamation mark and I couldn't drag the shot either. These are images I've successfully opened and dragged before. I would love guidance from anyone who knows a fix for this. Thanks! John

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto?
As Larry says, your workflow doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If you're using iPhoto only for downloading then you're best off using Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) and just keep the whole database element out if it. If you're using iPhoto also to organise, then what are you using Bridge for? Anything you do in Bridge - or Photoshop - is unavailable in iPhoto if you work this way.

How to use iPhoto on Mac and iOS in conjunction

I'm using iPhoto on both my Mac, iPhone and iPad. After the new Photo Stream and the new iPhoto iOS app has been released I think it is all started to get a little confusing. Here is some of my thoughts.
1) When I delete a photo from my Photo Stream the photo gets deleted on all my devices. Nice. On my Mac, iPhoto is for instance creating a "mar. 2012 Photo Stream" event, where all photos from the Photo Stream is keept -- also the deleted once. That's OK. On my Mac I can cleanup these events by deleting the unwanted photos. All my photos are synced to iPad but it seems, that I cannot cleanup these events on iPhoto on my iPad. Is that right? I'm able to "hide" the photos from the events, but that does not delete them -- and they are still visible on my Mac after their are synced.
2) I have an "Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit" making me able to import photos from my camera to my iPad, which I do daily when I'm on vacation. I thought that I could just import the photos to my iPad, put them in an event/album, edit/retouch them -- and when my iPad gets near my Mac the events/albums gets synced to my iPhoto on my Mac (without having to import them to the Mac manually). But it seems that the Camera app on my iPad is just putting the imported Photos in the "Last Import" album. How is Apple thinking we should do this? I cannot find a way to move them to an Event.
3) Generally, the difference between Albums and Events in iPhoto iOS seems unclear. After the new iPhoto for iOS was released, I was hoping that I could edit, retouch and choose the best photos from an Events and put them in an Album. I can create a Journal with these photos but that is not always what I want. For instance if I would like to make a slideshow for my TV, it would be nice to have a clean album where only the best photos from an event. How is Apple thinking this should be done?

Not only do they not work perfectly, they do not work together at all. Pretty much the only thing they share is a name. They are quite independent apps. Editing history on one can not be carried over to the other, so you can't start working on shots on one device and continue on the other. Events, Albums etc have no relation with each other and so on. Perhaps the next version of iPhoto (for either OS) will move them closer together but at this time they have no relationship at all.

To the best of my knowledge, Windows is not capable of setting a specific sound card based on the app being used, it's all or nothing.
Try a google search or search the Microsoft site.

Go to the iTunes App Store in the iTunes app on your computer. Type photo into the search window in the upper right corner and you will bring up all sorts of photo apps, free and paid, for enhancing, modifying, arranging, printing and sharing photos on an iPad.

Anothe partition for all my data.
then have that RAID'd to second disc?

and if this set up was on one disc, and one partition for one TM was for the Mini that has this drive attached, would TM back up this whole drive 2x TM Partitions and 1x partitions with data on, ok? it wouldn't get confused by trying to back itself up

Another program for frames

Hello friends,
I am new to Java and I need help in doing this another frames program.
Q An application 'frame' shows the following:
name !________! // box shape
age !________! //box shape
!_Submit_!
Clicking on 'submit' hides this frame and opens new one:
name !________!
age !________!
!_OK_!
This fram shows the values entered in the above frame. Clicking on "OK" destroys the second frame and the first re-appears with text fields. While pressing the 'submit' button, it displays an error message if all text feilds are not filled. The message can be shown on a new frame.
Please let me know the how to code for this program in a simple way.

Hmm. How is that a problem? You wanted the original frames, right?
I'm not at a Mac now, but AFAIR QT Player Pro exports as PICT from .dv clips even if you set it to use TIF, for example.
Have your tried to scroll to the desired frame in QT Player Pro. Then so Edit/Copy. Switch to an image editing app and paste it there. Does that introduce any unwanted compression?
...Below is the method I use when I want the best quality stills from a .dv clip:
1. Open the DV clip in QuickTime Player and save it as a frame via File/Export.../Movie To Picture (Compression Settings: None, Millions of Colors, Best).
2. Then open the image in some 3rd party image editing application and deinterlace it if there are moving objects with comb artifacts: Eliminate Even Fields and create new fields by interpolation.
3. Finally resample the rectangular pixel video to a square pixel image (use bicubic smoother for upsampling and bicubic sharper for downsampling). With NTSC, scale 720x480 to 656x480, then optionally crop it with 8 pixels from both sides so that the final image is 640x480. With PAL, scale 720x576 to 788x576, then optionally crop it with 10 pixels from both sides so that the final image is 768x576.

Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express? The included sounds seem to be lacking or hard to access.

Update: Not terribly impressed with the interface for NI's Vintage Organs from the demo download, although the sound demos sure sound good. The letters are tiny and hard to read and the whole thing feels very PC-centric. I guess a guy gets spoiled by the intuitive stuff. I think what I'll try for now is just hooking up my keyboard (Korg N1, circa 1998, about 1700 built in sounds) as a sound module and record the waveforms when I find a sound I like. I did find the EXS24 and several other software synths with some cool organ sounds after digging a little deeper. It would be good if Apple came out with another jam pack just for organs and keys, as the existing jam packs are so easy to use.

Back in the good old days when software was purchased on disk one could sell it (legally).
Please describe your problem. Give us some details to go from. Are you using iMovie 06, or something newer?

I've an issue with the report groups and read programs for the object EC_PCA_SUM. As we know that the report groups and read programs available for this object in the application customizing are used to analys the archived data.
That is these programs comes into picture after the archiving operation.

Your provided transaction "GR55" helped me to find out the program name for a particular group. However, these are just Write and Painter reports.
But can you please let me know the functionality of these report groups ?? what are these used for ???
Do we have these programs for other archiving objects like CO_ITEM,CO_ML_BEL,MM_MATBEL,CO_ORDER,
PP_PLAN,PP_BKFLUSH ??

I don't have any apple products personally, this is for work to use Photo Stream so when Superintendents & Project Managers take pictures of their construction site, I am able to have those images immediately.

You can not create an iCloud account using a PC, you will need an Apple product. Once the account exists you can logon to it from a PC.
