Using iPod 160GB with Alpine HeadUnit

Does anyone have any experience with an Alpine FullSpeed headunit and the iPod 160GB ?
I'm planning to buy an iPod, to connect to my CDA-9887 using the FullSpeed interface.
Now I'm wondering if the response time is good / search is fast or slow / possible setbacks / advantages / fast or slow track selection / etc ...
Anyone experience that they want to share ?

Alpine support says, basically, live with it. I noticed in a review off the Crutchfield Web site that someone else was having the same issue. Actually, what Alpine CS said made sense. The way the unit is set up by default is to repeat the playlist/album that you are listening to in the car (much like many single-disc CD players start replaying the CD when they get to the end). So, when you disconnect the iPod from the hi-speed cable, it's set to replay all. It's really not been much of a problem for me. If I forget to switch it off after removing the iPod from my car, the worse that happens is that it replays whatever playlist/album I listen to the next time I use the iPod outside the car. And, as you and I both agree, it's great save for this one quirk.

  • Using iPod Mini with Mac and PC

Has anyone had any experience switching back and forth between a Mac and a PC with the iPod? I've only used a Mac with my iPod Mini, but I will be taking a business trip and will be taking my PC laptop. I'd like to be able to recharge the iPod battery and access the playlists located on the PC while traveling, but when the iPod was connected to the laptop, I got a message stating that the iPod would need to be reformatted--something I hadn't thought about before. I didn't reformat it, because I wanted to check to see if anyone had any experiences with problems due to back and forth reformatting. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for the info! I wasn't aware of that.

  • Using iPod Shuffle with TWO computers

I have two laptops (one Powerbook and one iBook) and would like to use my iPod Shuffle with both computers, downloading music from the iTunes of each computer. Is that possible or will it always make me choose which iTunes I am linked to and delete all the music from the other one?

You can set your iPod shuffle up to mount as a disk on the desktop, and copy data files that can be transported from one computer to another. You aren't going to be able to use the shuffle to sync music from one iTunes account and another, however. It was only designed to work with one computer/one iTunes at a time.

  • IPod Touch with Alpine CDE-9852/KCE-422i

    Hello all,
My iPod 4G is about to kick the bucket, so I was thinking about getting an iPod Touch to replace it as my main music player.
I have an Alpine CDE-9852 stereo head unit in my car with the KCE-422i Full Speed iPod cable (has dock connector), which has worked beautifully with my 4G since I bought it in 2006.
Will the iPod touch still work with my stereo? I know the dock connector is the same, but I guess I'm worried that the Touch is too new and won't interface properly with my stereo.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Is there any way to use iPod touch with Win2000/SP4?

Got an iPod touch for christmas... very cool. It doesn't synch with my computer... not so cool.
The information I've found - compatibility chart at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60971 - suggests that I'm SOL with Win2000 - it appears that I can't upgrade past iTunes 7.3 whereas 7.4 seems to be required for the Touch. Are there any hacks our ways around this, or am I just going to have to suck it up...? I don't like using sketchy pirated OS's but I'm not real excited about going out and buying a new OS either.

There is no way for you to use iTunes with Win2K and the Touch. You can use 3rd party software, WinAmp, with a plug-in: http://www.winamp.com/ but this will not let you download upgrades and purchase 3rd party software for the Touch when it becomes available.

  • Using ipod nano with car stereo?

sorry if this is a blonde question, but I have just got a new (to me) car which has a sony gtx cd300 stero in with an ipod connection. Ive bought a new ipod nano, plug it in, nano says "OK to disconnect". stereo display does not seem to recognise. Dont suppose anyone can advise me? Nano works fine on its own. stereo works fine as cd and tuner, just cant get it to work with the ipod? arrgh! Very very grateful for any help or advice. Kind regards Lindsay

As long as your headset is 3.5 mm jack, you can use it with your ipod. Same goes with an auxilliary cable to your car if it is not bluetooth enabled.

  • Using iPod function with Bluetooth

I recently bought a subaru impreza with a usb connector in which I plug in my iphone. The radio has Bluetooth so I can take calls through the stereo as well
I issue is that when the cable is connected and the Bluetooth turned on, for some reason, I cannot access the iPod controls through the car dashboard, like looking through the iphone library and music folders. But when I turn off Bluetooth, The iPod function works again. But then I cannot take any calls through the car dashboard.
I just don't know if there's a way to have my iphone plugged in to use the iPod functions, while at the same time to have Bluetooth turned on so I can take calls?
I have no idea if I made sense.

If I recall things properly, you can't play music with a bluetooth headset. You need a bluetooth device which supports A2DP or AVCRP. My Jabra BT620S supports both methods, so I can pair it with the cell phone using the headset mode and with the iPod using the A2DP mode to play stereo audio back. My cheap LG stereo headset is similar. My more expensive Motorola H12 only supports the headset mode so I can use it for the phone, but not for the iPod playback.

  • Using ipod shuffle with more than 1 computer

Some of my music library is on my work machine and some of it is on my home machine. This has never been an issue with my ipod classic. I plug it into either machine and it connects no problem.
Not so with my shuffle. After I loaded it up with songs on my home machine, I tried connecting it to my work machine and got an error message. What's up with that? Is there a way to get around it?
    Many thanks.

Yes, Senuti is one way of getting around this limitation. Winamp is another. But still, I wonder: what rationale does Apple give for creating this limitation? Is there a link somewhere?
    In http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61675
    _Using iPod with multiple computers_
    it says:
*Note: iPod shuffle is intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle like you can with other iPods.*

  • Using ipod nano with car

I just received a new ipod 16gb, which has a new charger.  How can I use this in my car, which has ipod connectivity using the old plug?  How can I use it in my skullcandy speakers, which use the old plug?

  • Using Ipod Nano with Itrip

I have a question, I recently planned on buying an Ipod mini. I also was getting the Itrip too. So I got most of the money, almost enough for the Ipod so I purchased the Itrip. Now the Ipod Nano has recently replaced the Ipod Mini so im getting it, But..Will the Itrip work with the Ipod Nano? Anyone tried this?
Thanks so much for your help.

Unfortunately, this will not work because the iPod nano does not have the necessary accessory port next to the headphone jack. This is really dumb on Apple's part, because now you have to buy a full size iPod to use accessories like that. I still cannot believe they got rid of the iPod mini. It's one of the dumbest moves Apple has every made.

  • Using iPod Classic with Real Player

I recently received an 80GB iPod Classic. This is my first portable media player. I have purchased music from the Real Store using RealPlayer. This music is rights protected, and I do have the proper rights to use the downloads. In Real Player, these music downloads come with a .rax suffix, instead of .mp3. Can anyone tell me how to set up my system to play my Real Store purchases on my new iPod? Everything I've read leads me to believe it can be done, but I've tried the recommendations on the Real Support site, to no avail. I would really appreciate any insight.

Really? My general impression is that all copy protection is proprietry and, as far as the end user is concerned, is just a bad thing. iTunes can't read WMA protected content, Window Media Player can't read iTunes protected content. RealMedia just extentds the compatability headache. Media Players will generally cope with only one form of protected content.
I don't have any practial experience with the Real protected format, but the usual workaround for this is to burn your protected content out to CD, assuming you have the necessary rights, then import in an unprotected format. There will be a small loss of quality due to the re-encoding but this should be minimal. There are also programs that can speed up this process for some formats by virtualising the CD and automating the intermediate stages.
