  • Using iPod as a flash drive between PC and Mac help!

    Hey guys,
I have no idea how can I make my iPod a flash drive. Well, it was fine when my school used G4 iMacs last week. But now it's all HP pcs. And I cannot transfer my files to those computers anymore. When I plug my iPod via USB to one of them computer, it says that I will need to format the disk drive (iPod) because it cannot read the file system.
I guess it is because of my iPod is always connected to Macs (including mine) so that the file format on the iPod is unreadable to PCs. So I have no idea what to do because I am scared of that PC is going to ruin my iPod hard drive and its OS. I tried plugging it to a PC at my house, same thing happened. I am too scared to try.
Do you guys have any idea?
    Thank you in advance,
    Ton

Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.
If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

  • In start disc mode can I use a external USB flash drive on MAC Book Pro

In start disc mode can I use a external USB flash drive on MAC Book Pro?

To do what? Yes you can connect a USB flash drive to the system and if it has the Recovery HD files on it you can boot from it. If it has the OS X install files on it you can boot from it. If it is large enough to contain a Time Machine backup on it you can restore your system from it.
So what do you want to do with the USB thumb drive?

  • Using Ipod as a Flash USB Drive

I'm planing to buy an Apple IPod Shuffle, but I would like to use it more like a portable USB Drive, to transfer any kind of files, like Word documents, small video files, pictures, etc.
I understand that the ONLY way I can listen music directly form the IPod Shuffle is by adding the songs trough Itunes. But, for example, if I fill the IPod with several songs , and after that I put it in DISK MODE to take it to school and ad other type of files, will I be able to listen songs normally? or I have to disable the Disk Mode in order to use it as a music player?
    Thanks for your time.

My personal experience is that I have been able to use the Shuffle as a flash drive, even on my work computer where there are no special drivers or any iTunes software (it runs XP, as does the computer I used to set up the Shuffle). I simply used the slider in iTunes to set aside a certain amount of space, 32 megs in my case, for file storage. I've not had a problem on any computer, although it appears that people's experiences differ. I am pretty sure that you need to have disc mode enabled and file space set aside on your Shuffle's "home computer."

"so can any one tell me if it is possible to use my viedo iPod as a memory flash"
Yes you can. The 5th Generation iPod doesn't have a flash drive but you can store files on it's hard drive just like any other external hard drive device.

  • Is there a way to use an Ipod as a flash drive?

I have some pictures on my computer that I want to bring into school for Graphic Arts but I'm wondering if I could bring them in on my Ipod, rather than burning a CD. Can the Ipod work like a flash drive without having Itunes installed? It won't let me copy the files and paste them into my Ipod in Win Explorer. Is there any way to do this without Itunes?

Found the answer on Ipod 101 page. No need to answer I'm set.

  • Using ipod as a hard drive problems...

My emachine is being weird so I am just trying to move all my itunes to the compaq I have. I read the how-to guide and it did transfur some music, but not everything and not the playlists and all that like it said it would...its not that I don't have enough space on the ipod because I have like 21 open gigs...so thats not it. But I think itunes isnt saving itself to the itunes file like it should. I have no idea....if anyone could help me that would be great!! Thanks

Thank you for your reply. It cleared up a lot of confusion for me. But I have one more question.
See, I looked both of those software applications up, and it seems those are to be installed on the windows operating system. My plan is to eventually stop using my PC and give it away to goodwill, however, for work purposes- which is freelance- I'd need to use the ipod as a nice small portable hard drive- I'm a photographer, and work with big files, so I need the larger space that a flash drive can't give me.
So, is there any type of mac formatting on the ipod that can also be read by the pc? Or is there a 3rd party software that can be installed on the ipod that will enable it to be read on the pc and mac while retaining its mac formatting?
If not I guess I'll just have to go back to the old and extremely inconvenient way of doing things. I really wish mac would have mentioned these things before in all their descriptions.

  • Problems using ipod as portable hard drive for school (going from mac to pc

I was trying to use my ipod as a kind of flash drive, but when i got to school to retrieve my paper off my ipod, the pc computer said that my external disc was not formatted. I DID NOT format my ipod. Any Ideas on how to remedy this?

Open up an iPod Updater on a Windows machine and restore the software. I'm not sure if it works on the Update option

  • Transfer photos using SanDisk Connect Wireless flash drive

How are photos viewed when transferred from my iPhone to a SanDisk Connect Wireless flash drive and then to my iPad or my PC. Are they placed in the camera roll like all other photos?
are photos transferred from the device directly to the camera roll?
are the transferred photos then native on the iPad? Or only viewed through the SanDisk device?
once photos are transferred from iPhone to SanDisk can I transfer to the iPad and view them as if they were taken on the iPad?
can I select ALL photos from my iPhone and transfer them ALL easily to the SanDisk and the other way around? Then transfer ALL to my iPad?

The following quote is from the SanDisk support site: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10543/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDEw NDY4NTcxL3NpZC8xblJUYjkybQ%3D%3D

Where are photos stored once downloaded to my mobile device from the Wireless Media Drive?
You can use the Wireless Media Drive app to download photos from the Wireless Media Drive to your mobile device.
On an iPhone / iPad / iPod touch  (photos can be viewed in 2 locations)
    1. In the camera roll
    2. In the photos section of the Wireless Media Drive app. Select the iPhone / iPad tab at the bottom to see photos that are downloaded to your mobile device.

  • How to restore library and iPod from external flash drive

I had trouble getting my iPod to load new music after I got a new PC. I reinstalled iTunes and the new music loaded but the old music in my library and iPod were deleted. How do I transfer my music from my flash drive back to my library and iPod classic?

did you ever find the answer to this question? I have the same problem

  • If i use a usb flash drive which is both os and windows compatible can i transfer files from my mac to a windows pc using the same usb flash drive?

if i use a usb flash drive which is mac os and windows compatible can i use it to copy files from the mac to a windows machine. i have to do some training abroad and wnat to take the files on a usb from the mac but they will only have a windows operating system available to me.

Generally, it's not the flash drive that makes it compatible, but the formatting used on it.  In Disk Utility on a Mac, the format is called MS-DOS (FAT).  In Windows, I believe it is called FAT32.
A USB flash drive formatted that way should be readable and writable on both Mac OS X and Windows.  But you may want to try a "trial run" before relying on it for the trip.

  • Using iPod as a hard drive between Mac and PC

I'd like to use my Mac-formatted iPod to back up some personal files om my work PC laptop, and then transfer them to my Mac at home. I need to repeat this process every month or so.
I've enabled my iPod for disk use, but the PC wants to reformat in order to allow me to use it as a hard drive on the PC. However, all of my iTunes and photos and videos are on my Mac at home, and I'd like to keep the iPod Mac-formatted.
There appears to be some 3rd-party software trials out there, but I'm reluctant to download anything that is potentially sketchy.
    Advice will be greatly appreciated.

  • Using ipod as a hard drive to transfer data from PC to Mac

hey, Is is possible to use the ipod as a hard drive to transfer data from/to Mac and windows PCs?
I see no problem transfering data from/to my mac to the ipod. But I cannot see the ipod on the PC. When I plug the USB cable to my windows PC, it shows a popup message "external disk is not formated. Do you want to format it?".
    thanks,
    Martin

Windows cannot read a Mac formatted iPod.
Macs can read Windows fomratted iPods.
You need to run iTunes for Windows, then Restore the iPod.
It will now work on both Mac and PC.

  • How do I use iPhoto on a flash drive?

I recently transferred my entire 30 GB iPhoto library on to a 64 GB flash drive and then deleted the whole library on my laptop. However, when I now plug in my flash drive to use iPhoto it runs EXTREMELY slow. Are there any solutions to make it run faster or any different methods to store a large iPhoto library off of a computer with quick access to it? thanks.

It will run much faster on your computer's hard drive because flash drives are slow. You could instead put it on a portable hard drive in a USB enclosure.
