Using Ipod as a HD without Itunes.

Is it possibile to use Ipod as and external Hard Disk, connecting it with a device (for example an LCD tv with USB port) that hasn't Itunes installed?
In other words, a device needs Itunes to recognize the Ipod as an external Hard Disk ?
I hope that Ipod in this case run as a Pen Usb...

I've done some browsing and noticed that 'Split&Concat' has a Windows version named 'HJ-Split'. You can download and use the Windows version to re-join the files you split on your Macintosh.

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Is it possible to use iPod as external disk without installing iTunes?

I was wondering this because I would like to be able to use my iPod as an external hard drive at school. I cant install iTunes on their computers without administrator rights. I just want to know if I can connect it without having to go through iTunes to saftly disconnect.

Assuming you can use the iPod with iTunes at home, connect it to iTunes and change the setting to manual transfer. This automatically enables disk use.
Your iPod should then show up on any other computer as a hard disk without the need to install iTunes.
You can eject the iPod after use with the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject.

Loading songs on ipod 3rd gen nano without itunes

is there a way to get songs onto the new Ipod 3rd gen nano 8GB without using Itunes? I have tried Xplay 2.3.5 and the playlist is all messed up. It would show all the songs in my hard drive on every single playlist created, even the On-the-Go list. I would hate to use Anapod because of they limited activation status. Itune is slow, and too restrictive for me. I hate itune with a passion. So does anyone know a way to get songs onto this ipod properly with Xplay or another good program? I feel your pain. I have been fighting iTunes and QuickTime for 2 weeks trying to get it so that it does not interrupt my wireless USB connection when ejecting the Nano. A simple solution would be to use another program to manage the syncing of stuff to the iPod.

If the new look of iTunes is confusing, it may look more familiar to you if you show the sidebar. It is hidden by default to streamline the look and feel.
From the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. With the sidebar not hidden, iTunes mostly works like it did before.

I am wanting to take some data files using my ipod to another computer that doesn't have itunes. Short of downloainging itunes, will just connecting the ipod to a USB port work? That is, will the ipod be visible in My Computer or Windows Explorer in XP? Thanks!

If you are simply transferring plain text Notes files from your iPod to another computer, then yes; this is possible with simply Windows explorer.
All you need to do is connect the iPod to your computer, go to My Computer, double-click on your iPod's drive, and find the Notes folder.
There, you should be able to drag those files fromt he iPod to somewhere on your own computer.

Can I use iPod Touch Wifi & Airtunes,without switching off Internet Sharing

I've got an Aiport Express connected to my stereo to stream my music library via Airtunes. It is away from my computer and does not have an internet connection hardwired to it. I would like to be able to use my iPod Touch to connect to the Airport Express, which would then wirelessly connect to the Airport Card in my mac, thus allowing the Touch to share the internet of my main computer.
Currently I can connect my Touch to the Airport card in my computer by turning on Internet Sharing, but when I do this, I lose the ability to stream my music to my Airport Express.
Can I somehow configure to stream music from my base computer AND surf the internet on my Touch via the Airport Express' wifi connection?

So, if I accept the fact that I can't use Airport Express to share internet that way, how about this related issue? I can connect my Touch by wifi to my computer's Airport Card by turning on Internet Sharing. However, when I do this I can no longer stream music from my computer's iTunes to my Airport Express connected to my stereo. The remote speakers disappear from the iTunes selection box. In order to get them back, I have to turn off internet sharing. And then Touch wifi stops working. Is there a reason that only once function would work at a time? Or do I have something configured incorrectly?

Updating Ipod 3rd gen nano without itunes

I am trying to update the nano to V1.0.1. I have seen a 57MB v.1.0.1 of the new nano in articles, but when I go to the apple site, all i see is a link to download itunes. I do not want to install itunes for the only purpose of updating the nano. is there way to download just the update: iPod Nano (3rd Generation) software updated to v1.0.1.

This is becoming a bigger and bigger deal as we get updates with NEW bugs. We need Apple to do one of two things:
1) Offer a LIST of updates (old/new) to restore in iTunes
2) Offer a standalone updater (preferable) like I used to use with my Mini

Nowhere in the manuals or help sections does it tell me how to make individual pucture files(like that already on my computer) put onto my ipod touch.... I managed to make one and I can't remember how I did it but when I have the touch hooked up to itunes and try to pick which picture files from my computer to sync, a box always opens and says that it will delete everything in the original photo library that was in there.....
Can anyone help me there has to be away, I know someone has done it but they don't live here to show me!!!!

where on my computer am I suppose to make the individual picture files and have them to upload on my ipod touch.... I do have a photo library on my computer, but in the photo tab in itunes for the ipod touch and there is nothing checked for syncing, cause when I do check it it always says its going to replace everything i have in my photo library on my ipod touch..... So how am i suppose to have it checked and have it NOT replace pictures on it????
Also I cannot make more photo albums into my ipod touch, it just replaces the one album every time....

ALTERNATIVE METHOD TO PLAY MUSIC FROM iPod without iTunes

Hey all. I'm gonna post here an alternative way to play songs/videos from your iPod on PCs/notebooks without iTunes installed.
Let's say you're at work and wanna play music from your iPod but your workplace's PC/notebook has no iTunes and installation of any programs are not allowed. Well, what you can do is:
1) Connect your iPod to the PC/notebook
2) Enable viewing of hidden items/folders by going to Folder Options, click on the 'View' tab, next click on the 'Show hidden files and folders' radio button. Click OK.
3) Go to the drive of your iPod, you should see a folder called iPod_Control.
4) Open up the folder, and you'll see a few folders called: Artwork, Device, iTunes, Music and Tones. Open up the 'Music' folder.
5) In the Music folder you'll see a few folders named Fn (where 'n' is a number). Open up any of these folders and you'll find your music files in it.
That's it. 5 easy steps to play music without iTunes. However, when you wanna upload songs to your iPod, please use iTunes. Hope you all found this useful!!

Right. Forgot to mention this part. I'm guessin' you tried this method. And obviously you've seen that the music files have weird file names like FZYA and so on. iTunes automatically changes the file names when you transfer your music to iPod. To know what are the title and artist of the songs are, right click on any blank space of the folder, View -> Details. If Details shows you nothing, click View -> Tiles. Hope that helps you all.
