Using ipod in the car

I am going to buy my husband a new video ipod for Valentine's Day. He says that he has a buddy that can listen to his ipod over his car stereo over an FM transmitter or something like that. Can anyone tell me if that is a built in ability in the fifth generation ipods, or will I have to purchase something additional. Thanks for any help!

I use the following Kensington Digital FM Transmitter/Auto Charger and LOVE IT (bought it at the Apple Store)!!

Not only can you listen to the iPod, but it will charge at the same time. I use it in a major city with a lot of stations and have had little to no static using this product.

  • Best way to use iPod in the car?

Is there any consensus on the best way to use your iPod in the car? I have used the Belkin Car Kit with the cassette tape for over a year with my 20GB iPod and I really like it. It keeps my iPod charged and the sound quality is really pretty good I think. Now I have gotten a 30GB video iPod for my wife and want to find out what people feel is the best product for car use before I start buying her any accessories.
    Thanks.

I concur with T-squared. The Kensington 33185 is simple to use and the sound quality has been excellent. I bought it just last Friday and it has seen me through numerous holiday roadtrips over the past week. It charges and has three presets; I can recommend 89.7 or 106.5 FM when you're in the Philadelphia/Princeton area. :->

  • Useing ipod in the car

in my new car it has an USB port but then i plug in my i pod all i get is DO NOT UNPLUG can anyone help

I have since changed to a hardwired dock connector in all my cars. These ALWAYS work.
Just about any car audio shop can install these at a low cost.
They are unaffected by firmware updates, and they charge my iPhone and iPod at the same time. So when I get out of my car I have a fully charged iPhone.
Go hardwired, it will ALWAYS work.

How do I use my ipod in the car without it constantly charging?  I have to use a docking cable into the USB port because the 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack I bought doesn't work with the ipod (although it does work with an MP3 player).  My ipod is a 5th generation 80GB classic.

I know this is old - but did you ever get this working. Thinking of getting a 780 ti card and I have an older mac with the mini-displayport too.

  • Does playing my ipod on the car stereo with USB hurt the battery of the ipod?

Just curious if when playing the ipod on the car stereo using the usb plugged into the stereo unit will cause the battery life to shorten since it is seems to be charging the ipod.  Or does the ipod have a regulator that stops the charging once the battery is full?

Thank you for the info.  I must have gotten a bad ipod, because I only had it for a month and the battery would drain down overnight even with the wifi and bluetooth off.  I play it on my stereo unit hooked up with the USB.  I didn't think that by doing that it would mess up the battery and cause it to drain quickly in just a month.

  • Help using Shuffle in the car

I actually have a couple of questions, all related to the SHuffle I bought a week ago. I primarily want to use this in the car, using my car stereo speakers as I was doing with my iPod and Belkin FM transmitter (before my wife commandeered the "main" iPod as our home stereo!). Problem is the transmitter that works for the iPod has a different kind of plug (twi different "male" parts) than the Shuffle (only one prong)> So I bought the Belkin cassette adapter at the same time as the Shuffle. That worked beautifully the first time I used it; after that, everytime I put it in the cassette deck, the cassette deck ejected it after trying to "play" the cassette. I'd appreciate any suggestions on this; I already returned the Belkin cassette adapter to the store. Has anybody had this problem with the "Monster" adapter advertised on this website? It's so easy to use the iPod in the car; I never imagined it would be so hard to do the same with the Shuffle!
Also, when I tried to get "support agent chat" on this website, and entered my Shuffle's serial number, I was told that my iPod was purchased in March, 05, and so I wasn't eligible for support! (I bought it last week.) Any suggestions there?
    Thanks for any comments, docjohn

I use a cassette adpater with the shuffle all the time.. in two different cars
usually when im driving to and from work, or jsut around town
    no problems there
the apple store online sells a second FM transmitter that is only a single mini plug and is battery operated (and will thus work with any item that has a mini jack on it example: your computer)
try that...yes the fm transmitters for the ipod and ipod mini will not work witht he shuffle because they use the ipod and mini ipod's extension port to draw power.
    hope this helped
as for your tape ejecting...beats me
I have a 1990 corolla so its not smart enough to eject a tape...maybe your car stereo knows its not a real tape :P

Which model of the iPad do you have ? Only the 3G/4G models have a built-in GPS chip, if you have the wifi-only model then you will need an external GPS for it.

  • Playing the Ipod in the car.

I have the video Ipod, 60GB, and the Road trip, car converter.
I cannot get the Ipod to play in the car. Everything seems to be working fine, I plug the converter into the cigarette lighter, I put the radio station and the converter on the same station, and I know they are connecting because the static disappears and it goes silent, however, the Ipod shows as if it were playing, but I get no sound.
Is there something that needs to be changed in the Ipod settings so it will play in the car?
    Thanks.

Have you tried playing with the volume on both the iPod and the car?

  • Using ipod classic in car

Does anyone know if there is anything I can buy so that I can play my ipod in the car if my car stereo does not have an AUX? I am in the UK.
    Thanks.

It depends what stereo is installed in your car. For a few years now factory fitted stereos (that came with the car when new) have had a socket on the back which can sometimes be utilised for iPods. In other cases, replacement (aftermarket) stereos quite often have some sort of socket on the back. In both cases, it may not be obvious that the socket is there and it may not be marked as Aux.
So, is your stereo the original one fitted to the car and if so, which car & model and what year is the car, or is the stereo a replacement? If a replacement, what make is the stereo and how approximately old is it?
For instance, I have a Mazda 3 with factory fitted stereo. I had a Dension Gateway 100 fitted to the car which gives me dock a connection for the iPod into the car's stereo and I can control track access from the steering wheel, although I do not get the titles on my car's display. Have a look in Halfords (in the UK) and you will see iPod connectors for aftermarket stereos.
The best thing to do is consult a "car stereo dealer" who should be able to help by identifying what your existing stereo can do.
    Regards,

  • My iPod locks up after using it in the car with the iTrip

I recently upgraded my iTunes software and iPod software to the most recent versions available. Since then, my iPod will work in the car with the iTrip for only a short amount of time and then it starts scrolling through the playlist by itself without playing anything and then gets stuck in the on mode. I have reset the iPod as directed by the Apple website and it worked fine from my computer and in my Bose sound dock. Once I put it back in the car on the iTrip the same thing happened. I am wondering if since my software upgrades the iTrip is not longer compatible with my iPod. Please help! Thanks!

  • Playing a ipod in the car

I do not have a CD player in my car but have a slot for it to go and a multipin socket at the back where the CD player would dock. Would it be possible to buy a adapter to play my ipod through it. I suspect not and unique to the Car Manufacurer. A VW.
Failing that I gather I can play my ipod via a cassette adapter. These seem surprisingly Cheap! Are some better than others. Does anyone have any recomdations.
    Thanks a lot
    Stephen

    Hi again,
You have to make sure the input socket first, if yours are the same type as Benz, which are for digital signal, then you can't plug your iPod directly. There are few ways to make the connection with your car stereo.
    1. Cassette adapter - which is cheap with sound quality just OK. But make sure you buy with a good brand name e.g. Sony or Philip, otherwise, you will end up with the same problem as mine. I bought one of no-brand, it stucked in it and could not eject.
    2. FM transmitter - If your car stereo with Radio, then there are plenty option, which costs more than the cassette adapter, sound would be better but depends the FM frequency in your country, if there are too many radio stations then it will produce noises. Do a google search, you can find dozen there, I bought the monster cable which is not bad.
    3. You may go and check with an expert of car stereo company, they will recommend with some new products. I currently using this, they are great with good sound quality but expensive

  • Using ipod nano with car

I just received a new ipod 16gb, which has a new charger.  How can I use this in my car, which has ipod connectivity using the old plug?  How can I use it in my skullcandy speakers, which use the old plug?

As long as your headset is 3.5 mm jack, you can use it with your ipod. Same goes with an auxilliary cable to your car if it is not bluetooth enabled.

  • Using IPOD 60 with Car stereo RCA inputs

I plugged my Ipod into the RCA/AUX jacks of my car stereo. It plays but only through the rear speakers.
The cord Im using is a phono to rca (used with a portable DVD player).

Switch the Yellow and Red contacts. Apple does this for some reason...
