Using IPod on more than one machine

Does anyone know the process to authorize more than one computer to play and recognize an ipod's library? I want to use my ipod on my home computer and work one as well? I want to keep the same library and not lose anything.
Anyone know how to do this? Please help.
Thanks,
Lazz

"Does anyone know the process to authorize more than one computer to play and recognize an ipod's library?"
You don't need to authorise a computer to use an iPod on it. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. Once your iPod is set to manual you can connect it to other computers and other iTunes libraries without the message that it is linked to another library:

You are allowed to have two working installations so if you want to have it on two machines you can.  If you want it on more than that then you need to manage which ones are working at any given time such that only two are usable.

  • How to use ipod w/ more than one computer

I am new to ipod. I set it up on my laptop, and have all uploaded my cds to my ipod from there. I do nat have internet at home, so tried using my parents computer. How do you use the ipod with another computer that doesn't have all your songs on it? When I go to sync it, it ask if i want to delete all my ipod songa and replace with the ones on the other computer. I am trying to get album artwork. What am I not doing right?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library. Even when manually managing an iPhone, you can only add content from one iTunes library.

Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it.

  • Using Ipod on more than one computer

I have just purchased a new ipod after my old one broke down and when I hooked it up to my computer i got a message saying that this is the 5th computer my ipod is registered to... Being a new ipod i would think I should start again with this process... I have only hooked the new one up to one computer... can anyone help on this

"i got a message saying that this is the 5th computer my ipod is registered to."
Not sure why you would see that message, you can use an iPod with an unlimited amount of different computers.

Sure you're not confusing this with the maximum of 5 authorized computer for the purchase and playback of iTunes purchased music?

I have a 60gb iPod w/ color (4th Gen). On my laptop which is my home computer I also have all my music as well as on my iPod. • Can't use the iPod on more than one computer!!!!!!!

Ok, This has got me so frustrated! We got an iPod and installed iTunes. We thought we had it figured out - we purchased music from iTunes, played it on the iPod and everything was great. Then plugged the iPod into my other computer to listen to our music and it won't freakin' play! says the computer is "Not Authorized" and suggests that by 'authorizing' the 2nd computer, it will overwrite the songs that are already on the iPod. This is NOT desirable. We've downloaded and installed iTunes onto the 2nd computer and used the same login account that we used on the first computer.
What gives!?!?! I thought this was supposed to be easy, but it's not! I was hoping for a quick and simple "plug it in and start listening to music." This is definately not quick and simple. Albeit, I'm new to this iPod craze, but this shouldn't be so difficult. I've poked around on the website and cannot seem to find an answer to this.
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks
oh btw, Is anyone else getting annoyed by Apple's rediculous attempt at monopolizing this market by forcing us to use thier own proprietary software?!?!

First of all, any computer that plays purchased content must be authorized. This can be accomplished by opening iTunes, then store>authorize computer. If you wish to use your iPod on more than one computer & not have your iPod content erased, you will have to have your iPod preferences set on "manually manage". See the following link.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61675
Also, it's not only Apple that uses proprietary software. How about Zune players, & several others?

  • Can I use the redemption code for more than one machine for Photoshop Elements?

I want to use the Photoshop Elements that I bought on more than one machine. Is that
possible using the Redemption Code? It says it was used with another Adobe ID.
    Thanks

    Hi Stover,
Typically you use the redemption code to retrieve your serial number for Elements products. The licensing for Elements allows the owner to install on two of their computers.

  • Can you connect your ipod to more than one computer?

i was wondering if it is possible to hook up an ipod to more than one computer? i would like to use itunes both on my home computer and my lap top. is this possible?

Hi ctwerner, welcome to the forums.
In a nutshell, it is and it isn't. The first category to address is the operating system - if you own a Windows computer and a Mac laptop, or vice versa, the process is impossible as the file structures will be different. However, assuming you have computers with the same type of operating system, it is possible, but there are a few things to bear in mind.
iPods have two modes of updating - manual and automatic. In manual, you have to drag all your music across from the iTunes library and basically do everything yourself. Automatic is the complete opposite - iTunes synchronises everything in your library with your iPod. Updates the time, too.
Basically, if you use manual, the 'Pod becomes what I'd call a 'rogue' - not tied to any computer. You can plug it into any machine and copy music to it (not from it though - copy-protection doesn't allow it). In automatic, for convenience and to make sure your library is accurate, the 'Pod is locked to the original machine. I say 'locked' but it really isn't. However, if you have the 'Pod set to auto and change computers, iTunes will ask you if you want to change the library settings to that computer - if you say yes, it'll wipe your 'Pod clean of music (not other files if you use it as a hard drive, I think) and copy only the files it has in its' library. Likewise, switching back will result in the same thing.
To change between these settings, plug your iPod into your original computer (ie the one you use the Pod with), go to iTunes and choose Edit -> Preferences -> iPod, and then pick either the top option for 'Auto' or the bottom for 'Manual.'
Bear in mind that copying music is only practical over USB2.0 or Firewire (for the 1st to 4th generation iPods only - Firewire is not supported for the colour screen versions). If you have an old laptop, it might have USB1.1, at which point data transfer is painfully slow (I speak from experience, so trust me!). Of course, your desktop may very well have USB1.1, at which point you might not even notice...
Hope this helps you, and enjoy your iPod!

  • I have a desktop PC and a Macbook Pro.  Can I install my CC programs on more than one machine/OS at the same time?

I'm looking to start using Adobe CC but I use more than one machine in my daily life - a Win8.1 PC and a Mac OSX laptop - can anyone tell me definitively whether I can install the desktop applications for CC on both and sync all my online files to whichever machine I happen to be using at the time?

  • How to directly wire in more than one machine

    Hello all,
I am probably going to buy this router. Right now I have one machine right near the cable modem so it can be directly wired in. My laptop and Imac can hook up wirelessly. I see that there is one LAN port for a machine to be directly wired in.
What if I want to wire up more than one machine directly to the Airport Extreme router with actual ethernet cable (for better reliability). There is only one LAN side port. Do I just get a simple ethernet switch and then plug the machines into it? Is that reliable. If so which switch.
    Thanks.
    -Josh

Joshua, depending on what kind of Modem your Internet Service Provder has furnished you with you simply run the Ethernet cable from the port you hook a machine to, direct to the WAN port on the Airport EXtreme Base. The one with the circle of dots. The LAN port on the AEBS can be used for hardwired connection, it's the one with 2 arrows pointing away from one and other.
Or you can run an ethernet cable from this same port on the AEBS to a HUB and wire in several, or you can use a multiport switch...
There are a multitude of ways to hook this up and almost all come with a diagram and explain in a step by step... This should do it for you...Good Luck..Don

  • Syncing my ipod to more than one computer

My daughter has an ipod & was synced with our computer. Then she went to her friend's house & wanted to buy some music on her friend's itunes account. It erased all of the music & movies she'd bought on our computer & now it says if we try to sync it to our computer it will erase all the music she bought from her friend's account. I tried to set it up to sync with more than one computer but no luck. I used the Store-Authorize Computer function to no avail. I don't want to sync it back to our computer if she's going to lose everything she bought at her friend's, but I hate the thought of all this stuff she's bought here that now she can't reload, and if she loses what she bought there, so be it; more money was spent here than there. Any advice? Help will be appreciated. Thanks! sylvanchick

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. In this mode you can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod
You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual. Once you are safely connected you can transfer the purchased songs to your computer. The transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
