I inserted the iPod into the USB port. But the songs are not bolded and they cant be played on my laptop or put into the laptops library. I need help because I am in the process of moving and cant get to my desktop because it is packed. The iPod needs to sync to the laptop.

  • Using iPod Shuffle with TWO computers

I have two laptops (one Powerbook and one iBook) and would like to use my iPod Shuffle with both computers, downloading music from the iTunes of each computer. Is that possible or will it always make me choose which iTunes I am linked to and delete all the music from the other one?

You can set your iPod shuffle up to mount as a disk on the desktop, and copy data files that can be transported from one computer to another. You aren't going to be able to use the shuffle to sync music from one iTunes account and another, however. It was only designed to work with one computer/one iTunes at a time.

  • How to use ipod on multiple computers

How can I download/sychronize my itunes library with my ipod from more than one computer.  I have several computers.

You must maintain identical copies of your /Home/Music/iTunes/ folder on every computer, configure every computer for the same Apple ID and password.
iDevices are not intended to be used with more than one computer. Doing so means that every computer must be configured identically as far as using iTunes is concerned. Or you only sync with one computer, which is the intended usage.

  • Problem Using Ipod Video....help please!!!!

Now when I connect my ipod to the computer it always says found new hardware and then it says ipod sync is complete and it automatically disconnects my ipod, so now i cant add any of my music to my ipod. can someone help me pleae????

    Hi leo86iii,
From your symptoms, it sounds like there's possibly drive letter confusion going on here.
Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, by following the instructions from this article:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive
After you've changed the drive letter, is there any change in the way your iPod is recognized by Windows, and syncing with iTunes?

  • Using iTunes on multiple ipods and PCs

I currently have an iPod mini (purchased 2005) which I use in conjunction with iTunes on my PC. My mini is now on its last legs, and so my partner and I are going to get some replacements: two iPod shuffles (one each) and a classic to put our combined music collections on.
There are a couple of things that I could use help with.
1.) How do I connect the three new iPods that we're going to buy to my existing iTunes library?
2.) Is it possible to create a combined iTunes library that is shared between my PC and my partner's PC, so that we can each share each other's music? (My partner is not currently on iTunes and would have to sign up first).
3.) Is it possible to use our shared iPod classic both on my PC and on my partner's? (My PC runs on windows xp and my partner's on windows 2000).
    Thanks for your help!

There are several different ways to use multiple iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions and choose the method that suits you best: How to use multiple iPods with one computer
If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library (iPod shuffles can only be used with one library by the way):

Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone

Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.

In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Using an iPod with multiple Macs

    Hi all!
I have a 30GB iPod with color display. I've been using it with my Power Mac G4. That's where I keep all of my music and photos.
However, I just got a Pismo PowerBook, and I would like to use my iPod to play music through it while I'm at school, rather than copy my gigs of music onto the PowerBook.
I used to have the iPod set to automatically update everything, but in order to listen to music on my PowerBook, I had to set it to manually manage.
Does this mean that I have to manually sync everything, or manually copy music to the playlists on the iPod?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi Alexander,
Does this mean that I have to manually sync everything,...
If the songs/photo differ on the two computers, the primary computer, where you have your songs stored in this case your G4, you can keep automatic. However, on your PowerBook, just keep it manual.

  • Using iPod on Two Windows Based Computers?

  • Multiple iPods with Multiple computers

I have two iPods and each syncs with a different machine. Each has a unique music library. What would happen if I switched iPods. i.e. plugging two different iPods into one machine? Will they somehow merge the libraries, or will iTunes just complain that I'm confused.

  • Syncing/Using iPod on both Mac Leopard and Windows Vista.

I can't use my iPod on Vista without restoring the firmware to work with windows, and subsequently losing all the songs on it! Is there anyway round this? Basically this means that I cannot transfer my purchases onto a second computer.
    Not good.

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed: How to determine your iPod's disk format
XPlay has the added functionality to let you copy your songs back to iTunes. So you could copy all of your songs to your PC and then restore the iPod to format it for Windows and add the songs back again. A Windows formatted iPod can be used on both platforms though you would have to carry out any firmware updates on a PC to maintain the formatting. If you are interested you can purchase XPlay at this link: XPlay
One last thing, If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer or with more than one library you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. • Using IPod on more than one machine

Does anyone know the process to authorize more than one computer to play and recognize an ipod's library? I want to use my ipod on my home computer and work one as well? I want to keep the same library and not lose anything.
Anyone know how to do this? Please help.
    Thanks,
    Lazz
      Windows XP

"Does anyone know the process to authorize more than one computer to play and recognize an ipod's library?"
You don't need to authorise a computer to use an iPod on it. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. Once your iPod is set to manual you can connect it to other computers and other iTunes libraries without the message that it is linked to another library:

I work at a dance studio and to cut and make a CD of a song can I hook up another teachers iPod to my laptop and take that song and edit it and still have that persons iPod work at their house?
Thank You for taking the time and helping me.

Would you like to buy a punctuation mark perhaps?
Anyway... yes it can be done, but the answer is not simple. Generally you want their iPod to be in manual mode to put stuff on it without losing what is already on it...

  • Wanted to use ipod classic 120gb between 2 p.c.s

I wanted to use my ipod on home dell pc, and also at work compac pc; both have windows xp; when i take it from home to work get a message asking if i;d like to restore setting to view my ipod.
will i lose all that is currently on my ipod
and if i continue to switch between the two will it eventually affect my ipod?
are there any other possible solutions?
    thanks to any responces.

    Hello hoagie96,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you have your iPod set up to automatically sync iTunes content, any computer that you hook it up to (other than its original) will ask you to erase and sync, which, yes, will delete everything from your iPod, so make sure you hit Cancel.
If you wish to sync your iPod between two computers, you will need to set it up to manually manage music and videos, which can be accomplished via iTunes. For more information on how to use your iPod with multiple computers, check out this Apple support document. Hope it helps.

  • Why cant I play my songs from my iPod touch on other computers?

I know I'm kind of ranting, sorry, but I am very curious. I did a quick search trying to find information on this and I didn't have much luck.
I have multiple personal computers. A desktop at home, a laptop for school/work and then multiple computers at my school's library.
How come I can play music on any computer from my nano but not my touch? It's SO annoying. I can bring up my music library on any computer but all the songs are grayed out and I'm not able to actually play them.

    Hello carmidy,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
In order to play music on your iPod through multiple computers, you will have to set it up to manually manage its contents by enabling this option from under your iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. Keep in mind that manually managing your iPod's contents is much different than having it set to automatically sync with your iTunes libraries.
