Using ipod while connected

can I use my nano while it is connected to the computer. I get a "do not disconnect" message on the screen and can't seam to use the ipod itself. I want to be able to use the itrip whilst it is connected to to the computer charging but as soon as the usb cable is plugged in it stops playing.

Hi sam,
The "Do Not Disconnect" message is normal. You can play songs from your iPod through iTunes, but you cannot control through the iPod itself. If you want to charge and play at the same time, consider buying a wall charger.

  • Using iPod AV Connection Kit to link PowerBook to TV?

I've just got this kit, and it works fine with my iPod. Can I also use it to connect my PowerBook directly to my TV? I've played around but can't seem to get it to work...

I think it's worth it--to output video podcasts, photo slideshows, stored movie files to your TV from the iPod is quite cool. Of course, the quality will depend on the quality of the file you begin with, but I've found that done right, a video podcast is almost indistinguishable from broadcast TV show.
In the end, "worth it" is a subjective decision. It's not unsightly horrible, if that's what you're wondering. And remember, if you have a camcorder AV cable laying around, you can use it as well--just switch the red and yellow connectors when you plug them into your TV.

  • Is it safe to use iPod while it's charging?

Just wondering if it's safe to use the iPod while it's charging with an adapter?

Not only is it safe, using it when charging prevents using up the battery. The battery has a finite number of charge/discharge cycles...

  • Using iPod while charging..

Is it okay to use my iPod while charging? Does it not affect my battery? Thanks.

    Yes, it's OK.

  • Using iPod while riding a bike

Does anyone have any good tips on using an iPod while biking in an urban area? I ride my bike to work and would love to listen to music. The problems are that my iPod's earbuds fall out while I ride and, even if they don't, wind noise drowns out the music. I don't want to deafen myself by cranking the volume all the way up, nor do I want to drown out all the surrounding noises -- cars approaching behind me, sirens, etc. Are there any good compromises? Or should I stick with riding iPod-less?

While riding with headphones is somewhat dangerous, I'd definitely suggest picking up some kind of over the ear headphones instead of the stock head phones. I'd like to reiterate the safety issue. A friend of mine was hit by a car while running with the headphones and volume all the way up.

  • Using iPod while recharging

Sometimes I listen to my iPod while it is recharging...
Is this bad for battery consumption? Am I messing up the battery? Maybe I am shortening the life of the battery?
    Thanks

    Oh Cool!
Heh...then I can keep watching movies on and on...nonstop for a whole day.

  • Using ipod while running

    Hi,
I listen to my ipod while I run but have it just sitting in my pocket while I do my thing. As a result it swings around a lot throughout my runs. I've noticed that at about 25 mins in, it starts to skip a lot which I'm sure is a result of the skip protection memory running out. However, I've also noticed the ipod battery seems to drain faster than usual after one of my runs too. I am thinking that skip protection drains a lot of battery power. Is this true?
    Thanks
    Mike

The iPod loads 25 mins of music onto flash memory before playing. This shouldn't drain any extra batteries because this is the normal way that the iPod plays.
Your battery problem may be the battery slowly dieing. You will get more play out of a single charge if you dont change songs to often. Uninteruppted play makes the battery last longer.

  • IPod Nano 5th Gen... Deleting Songs from iPod while connected to iTunes

    Hello,
There are some songs on my iPod Nano that I want to delete from the iPod but still keep in Library...
When I connect my iPod to my Mac, all of the songs show up that are on my iPod but I am unable to click the song and delete it from my iPod.
All of the songs are not bold like when I look at them in my library.
I can't click on any of the songs... when I hold the control button and click my mouse the only thing that pops up is a menu that features:
    Get Info
    Reset Play Count
    Reset Skip Count
    Show in Playlist
    Apply Sort Field
    Can anyone help me????
    Thank you very much!

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for 1st and 2nd generation iPod shuffles, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the these). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
    iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. If you delete songs or videos from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD or an external drive:

Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod Nano in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Using Airtunes while connected to an existing Wi-Fi network ?

    Hi,
my Imac gets internet access through its airport card connected to a non airport wi-fi station (NeufBox).
I would like to stay connected to the internet while using Airtunes on my Airport Axpress.
I used the utility to connect the Airport Express to the existing Wi-Fi Network. I specified the mac adress of the Airport Express in my internet provider's device. But it doesn't work. I have internet, but airtunes doesn't appear in my speakers list in Itunes.
If I connect to the Airport express directly (and not through the existing network) then I have acess to airtunes. But not to the internet anymore !
Is there anyway for the Airport Express to access internet and use airtunes at the same time ?
    thanks

Hello laptom. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is there anyway for the Airport Express to access internet and use airtunes at the same time ?
Yes, you will just need to reconfigure your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to "join an existing wireless network" as a wireless client.
    Here's how:
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing NeufBox's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Need to eject iPod while connected to PC without iTunes software

OK. I messed up. I'm traveling and my iPod's battery ran down. I thought I could connect it to my business laptop (which doesn't have iTunes software). It worked. My battery is charged, but now it's telling me to eject before disconnecting. How can I eject without the iTunes software, and if I download it and then eject, will I lose all my music (at least until I resync after I get back home)?
    Thanks!

    Hello dwayneham,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are alternative ways to safely and properly eject your iPod outside of iTunes. For more help, check out this Apple support document, specifically the section on *Additional ways to eject iPod*. No need to download or install iTunes, unless you wish to do so. It wouldn't actually delete anything unless you restored it via iTunes or chose to "Erase and Sync" the iPod with the iTunes library on your laptop.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I  sort my music library in my ipod while connected to iTunes

Hello -- I have over 8,000 files on my ipod -- How do I sent up the colums on the device via itunes so I can sort the contents of the ipod?

You can get better response if you post in iTunes forum.
    But giving it a go.
    At the Menu->Click View->Column Browser
Select the column you want to sort by  (Artist, Album etc)
You might want to read about Albums and Tracks, as most often, iPod don't sort the same way as iTunes.

  • Advice about using the laptop with closed lid while connected to external display

    Hello all HP forum members!
I have an ENVY 17 with Win8.1 64bit, a great laptop, but I need an advice about using it while connected via HDMI cable to an external display (TV).
When I play heavy 3D games, the computer produces more heat than usual (of course this is normal), but doing so with closed lid, could this harm the  display in some way, as a result of the heat?
    Thanks!

    Hi @VVel ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 17 Notebook and issue with keeping the Notebook on while closing the lid. Here is a document on changing the Power option.
Control Panel - Power Options - upper left - Choose what closing the lid does.
Change Plan Settings and also check Advanced Settings. Make sure you do this for both battery and power.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • My ipod touch connects to wifi but can't connect to the server.

Ok, so my ipod youch says it's connected to the wifi but when i try to get on the internet it says it can't connect to the server. I've looked and there's alot of answers but they're all soooooooooooooo complicated. I'm like 14, so whoever can answer this, please use small words.
I've noticed in alot of the answers they talk about your IP adress, if it's any consilation mine starts with 169. No matter where I go, if it's at home, or at starbucks or a hotel.
    Thanks for your time

Have you tried restoring your iPod touch in iTunes?
You may just be trying to connect to "Printer Networks" that allow a company/residence to print something from their printer wirelessly, it would appear on your iPod touch just about the same as any other network, but you wouldn't be able to use internet while connected to that network...
If you are talking about "free wifi" in a Cafe, like Starbucks, you will usually need to open Safari. A Page will load and tell you how to connect to their internet, whether it's by paying, or just agreeing to their terms...
Like, I said, if that isn't the problem, try restoring your iPod touch in iTunes...

  • How do I get iTunes to recognize my iPod while plugged into the TC?

Ok So I have an Apple Time Capsule which I use as my router and NAS drive. Though I also plug my iPod into the usb port on it. The iPod is recognized on my computer and over the network easily although how can I get iTunes to recognize it and be able to add music and video?

Even though it's physically possible, I doubt an iPod is intended to work that way. Why do you want to do that?

What I believe you're seeing is the disk drive function of your iPod, which is different from the music player function. I'd give up trying to play music from your iPod while connected to a Time Capsule.

  • Are there any iPod Speakers that do NOT charge your iPod when connected?

    Hi there,
I'm looking for an affordable iPod speaker that does not charge or gives you the option of not having your iPod charge.
I know people who keep attaching their iPod to the dock speakers that they have, and it constantly keeps charging and that literally killed the battery on their iPod's.
I know there is the Logitech MM32 (connects through headset jack), but not sure if that is compatible with the new Nano 3rd Generation.
Does anyone know of any other speakers that does not charge your iPod while connected (when connected to the wall outlet -> AC) or gives you the iPod not to charge the iPod?
    Thanks in advance!

Constantly charging does NOT kill the iPod battery, it is a myth.
Once the battery is charged the main charging stops and it is switched to 'trickle' charge which means it get a slight charge every so often.
There is not problem at all in keeping the iPod topped up, just make sure you discharge it fully approx once a month as per Apple's instructions here :-
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
And general battery advice here :-
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
The key is the number of full charge cycles you o through, if you only ever keep topping up the battery then you will not go through full charge cycles very quickly. If you only ever top up the last 5% of the battery then you can do this 20 times and it will only count as 1 charge cycle. Based on the 400 they say you can get from a battery before the capacity drops to 80% that would mean you could top up the battery that last 5% over 400*20=8,000 times.
