Using iPod while riding a bike

Does anyone have any good tips on using an iPod while biking in an urban area? I ride my bike to work and would love to listen to music. The problems are that my iPod's earbuds fall out while I ride and, even if they don't, wind noise drowns out the music. I don't want to deafen myself by cranking the volume all the way up, nor do I want to drown out all the surrounding noises -- cars approaching behind me, sirens, etc. Are there any good compromises? Or should I stick with riding iPod-less?

While riding with headphones is somewhat dangerous, I'd definitely suggest picking up some kind of over the ear headphones instead of the stock head phones. I'd like to reiterate the safety issue. A friend of mine was hit by a car while running with the headphones and volume all the way up.

  • Using ipod mini in a bike

Is possible to use ipod mini fixing it in a mountain bike. I will make a mountain route in holidays and i want to carry ipod mini together with a mini speakers in front of my bike. Any problem with the vibrations?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

I don't know about the operating range of the iPod but I doubt fixing it to a mountain bike would do it any good.
Best to have it loosely but securely attached so it doesn't get knocked but any vibration would be absorbed. a good protective case for the iPod should do the trick then have that housed in a carrier on the bike. With the cables for the speakers coming out of it.

  • Is it safe to use iPod while it's charging?

Just wondering if it's safe to use the iPod while it's charging with an adapter?

Not only is it safe, using it when charging prevents using up the battery. The battery has a finite number of charge/discharge cycles...

  • Using iPod while charging..

Is it okay to use my iPod while charging? Does it not affect my battery? Thanks.

    Yes, it's OK.

  • Using iPod while recharging

Sometimes I listen to my iPod while it is recharging...
Is this bad for battery consumption? Am I messing up the battery? Maybe I am shortening the life of the battery?
    Thanks

    Oh Cool!
Heh...then I can keep watching movies on and on...nonstop for a whole day.

  • Using ipod while running

    Hi,
I listen to my ipod while I run but have it just sitting in my pocket while I do my thing. As a result it swings around a lot throughout my runs. I've noticed that at about 25 mins in, it starts to skip a lot which I'm sure is a result of the skip protection memory running out. However, I've also noticed the ipod battery seems to drain faster than usual after one of my runs too. I am thinking that skip protection drains a lot of battery power. Is this true?
    Thanks
    Mike

The iPod loads 25 mins of music onto flash memory before playing. This shouldn't drain any extra batteries because this is the normal way that the iPod plays.
Your battery problem may be the battery slowly dieing. You will get more play out of a single charge if you dont change songs to often. Uninteruppted play makes the battery last longer.

  • Using ipod while connected

can I use my nano while it is connected to the computer. I get a "do not disconnect" message on the screen and can't seam to use the ipod itself. I want to be able to use the itrip whilst it is connected to to the computer charging but as soon as the usb cable is plugged in it stops playing.
    nano   Windows 2000

    Hi sam,
The "Do Not Disconnect" message is normal. You can play songs from your iPod through iTunes, but you cannot control through the iPod itself. If you want to charge and play at the same time, consider buying a wall charger.

looks like the gtk theme is not the problem. didnt really think it was, but the documentation was worth posting. the guys over at ubuntu look as though they have dealt with this in great detail, and have produced a few solutions, which may or may not work. i have decided to post these for anyone else who may have these problems.
Solution 1 - new user creation:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/104521
Solution 2 - config file delete:
    http://ge.ubuntuforums.com/showthread.php?t=724439
post number 6 here features the config file delete solution, as well as a link to another post which may be useful.
judging by a google search on this problem and the number of responses that came up, the bonobo/daemon error is quite a common curse for the users of gnome, although much more common in distros such as ubuntu or fedora.
i hope that this proves useful and if anyone has anything to add, please feel free. the more documentation the better.
    EDIT:
another solution would be to remove gnome and reinstall it from scratch. (some please tell me if i am doing this correctly. thanks )
    1. clean your catch:
    pacman -Scc
    2. remove gnome, gnome extras, and whatever other gnome files you might have installed
    pacman -Rscn gnome gnome-extra etc...
    3. reinstall gnome and gnome extras
    pacman -Sy gnome gnome-extra
    4. reconfigure your desktop the way you want.

  • Is it recommended to not use your ipod while charging it?

We'll I've heard that using your ipod while charging decreases the batteries life, is this true?

I have not heard that. Doing so will increase the time reqired to fully charge the iPod.

  • Can I use my iPhone as an iPod while overseas?

I was just wondering if there will be any charges if I were to use my iPhone as an iPod while out of the counrty. Also, if I was WiFi, can I iMessage?

Just put it in Airplane mode and turn WiFi on. That should avoid any cellular roaming charges for voice, messaging, and data.

  • Music stutters riding a bike

Riding my bike I get music and video (listening only, not watching!) skipping. I thought it was location services updating itself every few feet, so I turned it off and put it in airplane mode to turn off push, but it still stuttered. I also have shake to shuffle turned off.
I'm listening to music purchased from the iTunes store, not ripped MP3's.
I have not had this problem while jogging, only when on a bike.
I'm using Etymotic hf2 headphones. This didn't happen with the iPhone 3G, just with the new 3GS.

i believe the problem is in your headphones. the other day, my iPod app was starting/stopping a LOT, and it was the headphones. the mic button was buggered up. instead of spending another $30 on apple headphones that last me 3 months, i decided to buy a set of blackberry headphones. when i had my blackberry, 1 set of headphones lasted me about a 9 months to a year. i would try to return the headphones and get a new pair.
i've also seen where extreme humidity can cause playback issues, which is odd cause again, my blackberry never had that issue.
the problem can also be in your headphone jack. check to see if there is anything that might have fallen in there. if anything is in there, use EXTREME caution and see if you can remove it.
