Using iSight as a streaming security camera

I have a strange problem. My husband and I just adopted a new dog - 9 month old Belgian Malinois. He's too smart for his own good. The crux of the problem is that he's getting out of his crate. The crate is LOCKED and stays locked. Our trainer suggested that we use a security camera to monitor him while we're at work so we can at least learn HOW he's getting out.
Immediately I thought of my awesome MacBook Pro with built in iSight. I have a few small problems. My work blocks AOL Instant messanger, so I can't see the video feed through iChat. I've tried a trial of Timbucktu but for some reason my work computer can't communicate with my home computer.
AND I'll need a program that will run on both Windows and Mac if it's a program that I'll need to use.
HELP! I've got to be able to see what this dog is doing when I'm not home!!! Is there a way to automatically "videoblog" it?

Can someone help me i know i need my ip address i have that but when i hook everythign else up where do i go when im somewhere else when i want to look at my live streaming from work to my house? please can someone help me thank you if you can. : )

    Hello, keith28
Until we hear back from juanorfrankie, here is my suggestion for your question:
I would like to access the isight using my iPhone.
     Can anyone make some suggestions?
If iPhone will can support viewing a streaming webcam page, use EvoCam with your iSight to publish a webcam with streaming video. That would probably be the simplest way to do what you want, but, because I do not have iPhone, so I cannot test this.
See the instructions and FAQs at EvoCam for system requirements and details on how to set up your webcam page.

  • How can i use isight camera to broadcast to web with Mac OS 10.4?

I am using an iBook G4 running OS 10.4 as a printer server.  I have to do this to be able to print on my HP DeskJet 882c printer from computers running OS 10.6 and above (although I have not been able to get it to work with 10.8).
I can connect an iSight camera to the iBook via FireWire.  Can I set that up to broadcast a video feed to a web site so I can visually monitor the area near the laptop and printer?

jrmnewtonma wrote: How can i use isight camera to broadcast to web with Mac OS 10.4?
You could use compatible older versions of QuickTime professional extensions for your Mac OS X version.
This professional quality software is very powerful, and it will certainly stream any video you need.  However, it is not simple to use, so be prepared to do some research and study to get it configured and working.
To use your iBook with its OS X 10.4, you will need QuickTime Broadcaster 1.5.3
and Darwin Streaming Server (v5.5.5) (if you need streaming server functions.)
Although I have never used it, QuickTime Streaming Server 4.1.1 might be a useable substitute for Darwin.

  • Isight Camera as a Security Camera

Is there any way in which I can log into my iMac at home from work and run my iSight camera, essentially using it as a security camera? Is there any software that does this? I would appreciate any specific information you could provide. Thank you.

    Yes.
All you need is the appropriate software:

  • ISight as storefront security camera

I'm curious as to whether anyone can recommend (or advise against) any software programs that would allow me to use my iSight camera as a security camera for a retail store. My goal is to be able to request a near-live feed into the store at any given time, and for footage to be compressed down and stored on a web server for retrieval for about 48-72 hours.
Are there programs that are compatible with Mac OS / iSight to accomplish this?
    TIA.
Edit: I suppose a web video chat through iChat would accomplish the 'on-demand' goal here; not to muddy the waters, but is there a way to have iChat automatically accept incoming video chat requests?

... software programs that would allow me to use my iSight camera as a security camera for a retail store.Scroll down to the links in the iSight as a surveillance or Nanny cam: section of Some Applications You Can Use With iSight. One of those may do what you want.
... is there a way to have iChat automatically accept incoming video chat requests? In iChat AV 3, the answer is yes, but it requires editing your iChat AV preferences folder outside iChat AV.
According to "LHS", who posted in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1348622&#1348622, it also works in his 10.3.9 iChat AV 2.1.
The "Terminal" method is explained in 10.4: Automatically accept video chats in iChat
Another way is to use an application like the "Property List Editor" included in the Apple Developer's Tools (if you have installed that.) You can use Property List Editor to edit the AutoAcceptVCInvitations value in your com.apple.ichat.plist file.

  • ISight as security camera?

New user here. I need a camera that can work outdoors (I will provide birdhouse cover) that can connect with my iMac G5 either wirelessly or wired. Problem is, the camera and computer will be about 100 feet apart. Can iSight do this? If not, anyone have suggestions for a good, simple camera for this use?

    Hi Susan,
I don't think iSight is practical if the camera and Mac are going to be so far away from each other. Here's what I would recommend for a remote camera:
    SecuritySpy software:
    http://securityspy.com/
This app is powerful! It has a lot of great features.
    A network camera:
Security spy will connect to many different kinds of cameras. Network cameras join your network just like computers do, either wired or wirelessly:
    http://www.bensoftware.com/ss/installationmanual/networkcameras.html
The camera I use is the Toshiba IK-WB01A, which is weather-proof and connects using either wifi or ethernet cable. It's discontinued but it may be available on eBay. Toshiba has replaced it with the IK-WB11A:

  • CCD Security Camera publishing Live FLV stream?

    sweet hello to all,
I can publish my 'Live' flv video to my RTMP Server using my
webcam(USB), because flash player easily detects my camera and
    publish live stream.
Problem is that, I want to use a Security Camera for this
pupose because I can get Good Picture quality and Lengthy wire of
    course.
I want to stream flv video using my CCD Security Camera. But
Flash Player does't stream/show live video when i select this
camera from Flash Player camera names list. This security camera
works fine when i use it with my webcam software or Windows movie
    maker.
please tell, Do i need to install some software or the issue
    is something else?
Also tell me how can i check that my Security Camera is using
WDM Video capture Driver or Not??
    Regards,
    Waqas Tariq Dar

Looking at the SecuritySpy web site, it seems that remote viewing feature uses port 8000.
You will need to configure the router you use in your country home so it forwards port 8000 from the internet to your iBook G4's port 8000.
How you setup port forwarding depends on the make and model of your router in the country home. Some Google searching for "make/model Port Forward" will most likely find instructions for your router.
If you do not have a router, and your iBook G4 is connected directly to your broadband modem AND your broadband modem is not also a router, then skip the Port Forwarding setup, and go to the next step.
To make your life easier, you may want to get a Dynamic DNS name which will make finding your country home's internet connection much easier. You can get a free Dynamic DNS name from No-IP.com and DynDNS.org. You also download a Dynamic DNS updating utility from the service you get the Dynamic DNS name from. This utility will run on your Mac and keep the Dynamic DNS name updated with whatever IP address your ISP assigns to your router.
If you have the firewall enable, you need to allow port 8000 through to the SecuritySpy software. NOTE: If you are behind a router, and this system never leaves the home (that is it does not go to coffee shops or other public WiFi access points), you can turn off the firewall and allow the home router to be your hardware firewall.
Once you have that all setup, you can then access your security camera/SecuritySpy software using something like:
    http://yourDynamicDNSname.DynService.net:8000

  • When I take a photo it goes to camera roll and my photo stream. This doubles the memory being used. Can I delete the camera roll?

When I take a photo it goes to camera roll and my photo stream. This doubles the memory being used. Can I delete the camera roll? This seems pointless to have the same pictures twice. My Photo Stream pictures upload to my PC, so why should I have the same photos in Camera Roll?
Am I supposed to delete pictures in camera roll after they go into My Photo Stream? Why can't I just take a picture and it go to photo stream on its own? My camera roll AND My Photo Stream go back to March 11, 2014

You're misinformed and have asked several questions that I'll try to tackle.
No it doesn't double the memory. The Photo Stream image is simply a pointer to what you have in your camera roll.
If you delete pictures from your camera roll, leaving them only in Photo Stream, you will lose those images forever if you don't then pull them out of Photo Stream on another connected device. Photo Stream is meant to be TEMPORARY cloud storage for your images. Read about it here: iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
You should ALWAYS offload your images if you want to keep them. See how to do that here: iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

when recording a video using quicktime and my built in camera (isight) how come the program wont let me use my audio interface rather than the built in mike?
The basic answer is that Apple has not programmed the capture routine with this capability. As such, you can always send QT feedback requesting this feature be added as a future enhancement.

  • Can I use iSight as a still camera?

    Hello!
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 17". I wish to know whether I can use iSight as a still camera or not.
Actually, when I was setting my MacBook up and came to the setting where it asked for my display picture, I hastily clicked a very unusable picture of myself and proceeded with the rest of the settings. I thought I would change it later. I then installed Microsoft MSN Messenger and it displayed that stupid picture as the display picture. I changed my User Account picture after that to a better one but MSN Messenger still is displaying the same picture as the difault picture. How do I change it? I don't even know where Mac stores the User Account picture. So, I wanted to click another picture of myself with the iSight camera and store it in the pictures folder so that I could change MSN Messenger's display picture. Is it possible? If not, how else can I change MSN Messenger's picture to the User Account picture on my OS?
Sorry for the huge rant and please do reply ASAP!
    Thank you!

    Hi Cool 'n' Casual,
    Sort of.
You have PhotoBooth on there which will give a warning before it click the pic and flashes the screen to improve lighting when it does.
It can be a "normal" pic rather than any of the specials.
iChat itself can take a snapshot. It can be done from the Buddy List and clicking on your current Buddy pic and following the buttons. Or from the menu bar in Video.
Photobooth stores the pics and can link directly to iChat to post a pic.
Your Recent Pictures are stored in Users/(your account)/Library/Images/Recent iChat Pictures.
It is likely that you will have to navigate to this folder if you want MSN to display the same pic.
By default iChat will display the Pic you selected for your Mac user account when you set the computer up as seen in the Address Book for your Me card. It is probably this one that MSN is displaying.

  • Can I use iSight as a remote camera?

I'd like to use iSight as a remote camera and record the video to a miniDV camera in a safer location.
I don't have a nearby Applestore to go check this idea out, does anyone know if it's possible? I have a powered FW hub, so I can power the iSight w/o a computer (I think)

You're welcome, Mark. Have you driven an iSight from a Dazzle before, or do you know someone who has?No.
Although I have no technical data to quote that proves this, based on reports posted in Apple Discussions, I believe that iSight is less protected against shock, vibration, dust, and humidity than my "walking-around" cameras.
I use a camcorder or the movie setting on my digital still camera for recording movie clips when I will be moving the camera. I do not mean to imply that iSight is inordinately delicate, merely that it is not as shock resistant as cameras designed to be carried. I would be surprised if iSight would withstand the rigors of aerobatics.
Based on what you want to do, iSight's seemingly modest shock tolerance, and the price of GL2s, I would look for a device more like the sports camcorder mentioned earlier.
Perhaps others can offer some first-hand experience that will be relevant to what you want to do.
    Jim

  • How can I view and convert .264 files from my security cameras for use on my Mac and the web?

My security cams record in a .264 file format HD.  I want to view, edit, etc on my Mac, what software will do that and are there any easy tips to do this?  I'm new to Mac's so I'm not sure what is the best format to convert to?  mp4?  Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.  I do love the Mac so far.

I have downloaded the trail....and it won't recognize my .264 files....not sure what the deal is?  Here is a screen shot-they files are "grayed" out....and won't highlight.  Do you see anything wrong?  I'm pulling the files off of a Lorex DVR security system.  LHD200

Hi all. I want to set up an outdoor web/security cam and a wireless model would be ideal, as I want to be able to put it in different locations.
There seem to be many PC-compatible wireless cameras, but are there any which are compatible with the Mac OS? I don't really want to get into Boot Camp / Parallels territory if possible.
