Using iSight with Mac Messenger ?

I was just wondering if anyone knew a way to use the iSight with Mac Messenger, and, or view someone else's webcam? I've been told by friends that it's not possible but I just wanted to check here incase there is some 'backalley' way to do so.
Thanks for your time

Thanks, but i was just really looking if it was possible with Mac Messenger. I've tried aMSN in the past and it gave me a lot of problems so i don't want to go down that route again.
It doesn't really matter if it isn't possible i just though it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks anyway

  • Isight with mac messenger

    Hi
I was wondering whether you could use isight with the mac version of msn messenger?

... Mercury Messenger which logs on to the MSN network and lets you use any camera as a webcam.
But NOT for Mac OS X video conferencing. The fourth bullet in "<big>Notes : </big>" on this Mercury help page says:If you have a webcam, Mercury supports sending video if you are on Windows or Linux. Mac OS X does not have a full JMF library so for now, it will not workThe second bullet item there says:... Mac OS support will start in 1709 Beta 1.

  • Using iSight with MSN Messenger

I have MSN messenger 5.0 for a Mac - I cannot seem to figure out how to use the iSight with it . Has any1 been able to do this or are the 2 not compatible?
    Thanks

    Hello Alefiyah,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Grant it right. No video in MSN for Mac.
If you are interested, see the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ for info on how to use iChat AV with MSN Messenger for text chat.
Has any1 been able to do this or are the 2 not compatible?
Not currently. See Peter Tulipan1's recent Can iChat have video chat with Windows Messenger? thread for info about the development of video via the MSNM Server by using an application called Mercury Messenger on the Mac. Note that their Support Info says two-way video does not work at this time, though.

    (P.S. You really

    Hi
Because MSN messenger for mac does not do video
Have a look at aMSN http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14200
    And Mercury http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14970 For video.
If your talking to PC's you might be better off trying Skype http://www.skype.com/download/skype/macosx/20beta.html and the PC needs Skype as well.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, flowerlove
The answer here will depend on the specifics of what you want to do.
Both Microsoft Messenger for Mac and the older MSN Messenger for Mac are text only apps. You can not use iSight with either. Please let us know if you mean some different "Messenger" software.
This Windows Messenger does not appear to offer video, even for PCs. If this is the application your friends are using, no video work with it.
For a built-in iSight video connection with PC contacts who only connect via Windows Live Messenger or other clients of the MSN Messenger server, you can select from these alternatives:
    (1) Because your MacBook can use Boot Camp or Parallels to run Windows XP software on your MacBook, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows instant messenger application that your contacts are using to do video.
    (2) and (3) In addition to Niel's good "aMSN" suggestion, you can also try Mercury Messenger for Mac. Either can work with OS X for video and text chat. They offer the same features, but neither offers audio connections.  Use whichever one of these two you find more reliable or easiest to use if you do not want to add Windows XP to your iNtel Mac,.

  • Using isight with two different OS

I have a G4 running OS10.2.8 and I want to connect to my son who has a iMac G5 running 10.4. I want to buy 2x iSight cams, one for each of us, and want to know if this set up will work.
Thanx a bunch for any help.
    Lan

    Hello Lan,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
In addition to Bill's good comments, I offer the following:
If you currently have iChat AV 2.0 for Jaguar, you will be able to chat with your son provided he meets HIS requirements and you have broadband internet service. You can be sure about which version of iChat you have by issuing the
    b iChat > About iChat
    menu command.
The link Bill cites shows Apple's System Requirements for iChat AV 3. This would require that you upgrade your 10.2.x system to 10.4.2
See this page for System Requirements for iChat AV 2.1. This would require that you upgrade your 10.2.x system to 10.3.9
Mac OS X 10.2.x originally came with iChat 1.0. iChat versions earlier than v2.0 will NOT do video. If you do not already own iChat AV 2 for Jaguar, you will need to upgrade your Mac OS to get video capability.
At one time, Apple sold an iChat AV 2.0 upgrade for the original (non-AV) Jaguar iChat, but they stopped selling (or supporting) it in October, 2004.
My Mac OS Panther install disks include the Panther version of iChat AV 2.0. A free iChat AV 2.1 Updater is available from Apple to bring the Panther version of iChat AV to the most current
    b Panther
version, which offers one-to-one audio and video capability. (This is an Updater ONLY. It requires iChat AV already be installed from your Panther installer disks.)
The only way to buy iChat AV from Apple nowadays is to buy Tiger, Mac OS X 10.4.x, which includes iChat AV 3. iChat AV 3 is capable of multi-party text and audio conferencing for those who meet the System Requirements for iChat AV 3. Tiger's Mac OS X 10.4.2 Update upgrades you to the current iChat AV 3.0.1.
If you need more info on iChat AV, see the iChat AV Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) or the iChat AV Discussions.
You may also be interested in the the iSight Tips and FAQ. As implied in the How To Ensure Your iSight Is Functional FAQ, new users may want to consider buying iSight at a brick and mortar store.
Ask for a demonstration of the very same iSight you will take home. This will let you see how easy it is to connect, let you verify that it works, and give you an opportunity to ask any questions where you can
    b see
    the responses applied.
If you have a Mac notebook, heed the magnetic mount warning in the What Mounting Hardware is available for iSight? FAQ.
This response has grown longer that I thought, but once both you and your son are using the same Mac OS, you can eliminate all the other possibilities described above.

New to using Firefox with MAC: How does one save a single jpeg from the internet, similar to using the right mouse click on a pc?

If your question comes about because you have a single button mouse, it's time to visit your local computer store and get a ''real'' mouse for that MAC. I don't "get" Apple, they sell their hardware for almost twice what a comparable PC would sell for - and then they leave out what is probably the most important time saving control, the right-button.

  • Any way to use webcams with Microsoft Messenger?

    Hi everyone,
Because all my friends are windows users, I use Microsoft Messenger talk to them. Is there a way to use my inbuilt iSight camera with MSN? Also, is there a way to have MSN running through iChat?
    Thanks,
    Charlie
p.s. Do you have to have an account with .mac to use iChat?

    Hello Charlie
Here are some thoughts you can consider in addition to the good suggestions you have already received.
    (1) If you want to run an Mac OS X client for the Microsoft Messenger Server on your iNtel Mac, you can use either Mercury Messenger or aMSN. Both can do text and video (but NOT audio) with your Messenger contacts, so use which ever you find more reliable easier to use.
    (2) As an alternative, because your iNtel Mac can use Boot Camp, VMware Fusion™, or Parallels™ to run Windows® software, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software to your iNtel Mac (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows® Messenger application that your contacts are using to video chat with them.
The Windows drivers for your built-in iSight and your other Mac hardware are on the disk with Boot Camp so, after you have installed Windows, you can install the iSight driver and use your built-in iSight if you like. If you need more help on this, search or post in Boot Camp discussions category
    (3) You CAN "have MSN running through iChat" via Jabber, but ONLY for TEXT chat. Here are some help sources:
    iChat to MSN Through Jabber,
iChat Jabber Tutorial (site is currently slow or perhaps off-line), and
    Jabber Servers
There is a blog summarizing the above at HOWTO - Use MSN, Yahoo!, or ICQ in iChat
The Jabber connection can allow you to connect for video or audio with other iChat (Mac) uses, but, at least the last time I tested it, it offered only TEXT connections to MSN, Yahoo!, or ICQ users.

  • Any way to use iSight with 2 apps at once?

I just got my new iSight, and it worked beautifully, right out of the box, with Yahoo Messenger (version 3.0 beta for Mac) and with the website Webcamnow. I am so impressed!
However, if I'm broadcasting on Webcamnow, then dare to launch Yahoo Messenger -- WITHOUT cam, mind you, just Yahoo chat -- the iSight image freezes up in the first app. Somehow, it seems that Yahoo Messenger, even without the cam enabled, interferes with the iSight video stream going to the other application.
I'm obviously a newbie at this. Does anyone know how I might get Messenger to work alongside the webcamnow broadcaster? Or should I accept that I can only run one cam-related app at a time?
    Many thanks!
    Skylar

Are you connecting the iSight directly to your mac or are you going thru a hub. I'd recommend connecting it directly to your mac.
Only one application can use the iSight at a time. I.E. iChatAV and not yahoo, or vice versa, but they both can be running.
    Best of Luck!

  • Can't use isight with Facebook

    Hello there,
For some reasons the Isight on my Imac does not work anymore on Facebook. It's an Intel based, and the problem appeared let's say six month ago maybe after some update, can't remember. I'm on maverick now, everything works fine ( skype, facetime) but cannot shoot any vids or pics to post directly on my page wich is very very bothering me at the time...
    Any Ideas??
    Thanks all

I don't use Facebook.  Apparently, however, FB Video Calling works via Skype.  Therefore, you may find that you need to update to the latest Skype for proper FB function with Mac OS X 10.9.
Yours seems to be a known issue: Video calling option not available after OS X Maviericks update for Mac? | Facebook Help Community | Facebook.
If your problem continues to be with FB only after properly updating Skype, follow your application specific problem in the FaceBook Help Community.
You may also want to report the specifics of your problem to the FB developer for possible update or technical support directly from them:  Give Us Feedback | Facebook Help Center | Facebook

  • Original iSight with Mac Mini

I'm trying to hook my original iSight camera up to my Mac Mini. I have a couple of questions...
Of course, the iSight uses the Firewire 400 cable. I have a 400 to 800 Adapter that came with my iPod 3G. Unfortunately that adapter does not seem to fit the Firewire 800 port on my mini. My question is, what adapter do I need?
Since iChat AV is no longer available, will the camera work with other applications? I specifically need to attend 2-way Video Conferences using Cisco's Jabber Application.
I have to be on a conference call in 5 days, so any information you can give would be very helpful.
I live in a rural area of New Mexico and there are no webcams available locally that work with Mac. Finances prevent me from traveling to a large town to purchase one until after the first of the month. Which is too late!
iSIGHT Cameral: Model A1023 circa 2003 (Silver Camera Body)
FIREWIRE ADAPTER: 6 Pin Female Firewire 400 to Male Firewire 800, came with iPod 3G 10B whenever that came out
COMPUTER: Late 2012 Mac Mini, 2.3GHz, 8GB Ram, 1T HD running OS X 10.9.4 (internal HD) and Yosemite for Public Beta Program (External HD)

I myself and other as discussed in this forum could not get the iSight camera to really work on a 2012 Mac Mini. It works but you get no sounds and only one frame every 20 seconds or so.
I also Googled and that showed the same.

Any UVC compatible camera should work with the native Apple drivers but not all features of the camera will be available
