Using iTunes 10: Converion from MP3 to AAC

I'm working in a named playlist of many MP3s that I would like to convert to AAC. The problem is when I
convert these files they do not return to this playlist but show up in the Library.
My question is: When converting these files, it does not give me an option to convert to the same playlist.
Is there a way that this can be done so my new files that were convert show up in the same playlist.
Are must I lookup each individual file in the library which can take several minutes of extra time.
Thanks

Open the playlist. Select the files. Convert to AAC. Now go to the main Music list and click on the 'Date Added' column to bring them all to the top of the list (if you don't have this column add it in menu View>View Options).
Now you can delete the originals from the playlist and drag all the conversions to it, or open a new playlist and drag them to that, as desired.
Do you have a good reason for converting them? Experiments carried out by the BBC suggested that while opening and recompressing a file in the same format did little damage (as the bits that needed removing had already been removed), recompressing files in a different compressed format was liable to dregrade the quality as it applied a different compression process to an already compressed file, thus removing more data than it the file had been compressed from an uncompressed format.

  • Using itunes files for differnt MP3 player

In our household we have 2 iPods and a seperate generic MP3 player. I cannot get itunes songs to the generic MP3 player. It seems almost impossible to copy these.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

The DRM protected songs from the iTunes store (the ones that cost .99 and show up as "Protected AAC" if you sort by kind in iTunes) will only work on iPods, your computer and certain iTunes compatible cell phones. They won't work on other mp3 players.
The newer, DRM-free tracks (so far only music on the EMI label, which cost 1.29 and shou up as AAC when sorted by kind) will play on players that support eh AAC format. Some players do and some don't. Check your owner's manual.
Even if your player supports AAC, you won't be able to use iTunes to transfer the files. Again, check the owner's manual for your player to determine how to load music on to it.

  • Using iTunes to create an MP3 CD that can be used on a DVD player

I recently attempted to create what I believed to be an MP3 CD from iTunes that my DVD player would be able to play. My DVD player was unable to read the CD (No Disc message). Come to find out that it creates the CD in a Mac format instead of an ISO 9660 format. Has anyone been able to create an MP3 CD from iTunes that a DVD player will load? If so what settings did you use?

The problem is solved. My new Sony DVD Player seems to handle whatever format my MP3 CD is created in even though the manual says nothing about a mac formatted CD. So I can now use iTunes or Toast to create MP3 CDs. My old JVC CD player is about 5 years old and even though the manual says it will read MP3 CDs and VCD CDs it never worked well on anything I created on a Mac

  • Converting from MP3 to AAC

Several thousand of my songs are in the MP3 format. My question is twofold: first, is there that big a difference in sound quality between MP3 and AAC? I do not care about space restrictions, as I have plenty of room on my 80GB. Second, if I do begin to cnvert these songs to AAC, is a second copy put on my computer as well as in iTunes? If so, where can I find it, as I cannot find duplicates of the ten or so that I have already converted. Thanks in advance. Just want to know if it worth the time and effort to make the conversion.

Converting creates a second file in the format you are converting to. The original file is not changed so you end up with two copies of the song, once in each format. However it's always preferable to re-rip from the original uncompressed format rather than converting from one lossy format to another.

  • Can I Use iTunes to Restore from iCloud Backup?

When I try to restore my phone (iPhone 4, current iOS) to a prevous iCloud backup using itunes, it won't let me choose my iCloud backup.  When I try to select the iCloud option under "Backups" it won't let me select my iCloud back up (which was created minutes before) but instead, it makes only gives me the ones I created to the computer.

You have to do it directly from iPhone.

  • Using ITunes to import from analog

Since buying an Apple laptop for my wife, I've been hooked to iTunes. In the "main" Windows XP PC, I downloaded iTunes. Other than some problems with remote Airport station (only from Windows), the program has exceeded my expectation. (My next main computer will be Apple.)
I would love to remove Music Match from my hard drive, except it has one function unavailable to iTunes? I have a collection of vinyl (remember those?) that I would like to convert to mp3 or mp4 and Music Match has that capability.
Does iTunes have that capabilty to import analog audio or is there a "plug in" available?

Sorry - but no, iTunes hasn't the capability to import/record from line in.
For that you have to use an application like "CD Spin Doctor" (that's included in Toast) or another similar application.

  • Using iTunes with paypal from Canada

    Hi!
I heard on my google reader feeds that iTunes now accept Paypal.
I looked on my iTunes account, and I didn't see any link about it..
Could you tell me if it is possible?
    Thanks a lot!

Only iTunes in the US accepts PayPal! Here's the thing. I don't think there is a way around this if you want to buy apps, but for music there is. You can buy music online from HMV.ca. They not only accept PayPal, but you can also use Interac online for digital music downloads. They are a bit more expensive than iTunes and Napster, but at the same time, the files are NOT protected because they are already in MP3 format, and MP3 files cannot be protected, which means you can import them into iTunes without having to do any conversion.
There is also Napster, but I don't know if Napster has a Mac version. If it does then all you need is The Napster program and a Napster Canada account. Napster Canada accepts PayPal, but the files will be protected WMA format. This means you will have to burn the files onto a blank CD first. Burning protected files removes the protection. Then just import the cd into iTunes and let iTunes covert the files as it imports. There is also an app called Tunebite. This program basically does the equivalent of burning, but you don't need a cd. It does it all on your computer. Again, not sure if there is a Mac version. It will copy the protected file and remove the protection, then it will convert to the format of your choice. It does it all. Then all you have to do is add the files to iTunes once they are in a format that it accepts.

  • Used iTunes to restore from backup and the Apple ID that shows up is a very old one

I have an iPhone 4s. I recently lost all of my contacts for some mysterious reason. I personally think it's a conspiracy by Apple to force me to upgrade to a new phone. Anyway, I hooked my phone up to my computer (Windows 7) and from iTunes I went to Devices, Restore from Backup. I know that within the last few weeks that I backed it up onto  iTunes but I cannot figure out from the newest iTunes how to find it. So I restored the backup but it backed up from November of 2012 (I am only assuming this because the most recent pictures that are in phone are from that date). It did restore my contacts from 2012 but there are no recent contacts in there plus I lost all my photos from November 2012 on. Which is no big deal. My problem is that the Apple ID that is showing up is from a very old account. The e-mail address is no longer even valid.I tried to delete iCloud from my phone so that I could put it back on with my new Apple ID but I cannot remember the password of my old id. When I go to reset my password for my old id and the security questions come up the first thing it asks for is my date of birth. When I put my date of birth in it says:
The authentication information provided does not match our records. Please verify your personal information and try again.
I know that I did not enter the wrong birth date when I first set up that account. So now I am stuck because I cannot get any further without that date of birth. I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP. PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
PS-Not sure if this matters but I also upgraded to iOS 8 directly before I did the Restore From Backup.

    Hello risenhauer,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To reset your Apple ID password without knowing your security questions or have access to the email account, you will need to contact Apple Account Security in your country.  Links to contact can be found in the article below.

  • Use iTunes library file from old account

Earlier: Lion on Macbook Pro, one SSD drive for system and one for media. Moved iTunes library to the Media drive, and told iTunes, worked like a charm.
Now, after having formated the system disc and reinstalled system (Mountain Lion), I replaced the new "emtpy" Itunes Music Library xml and itl files in Users/Me/Music/Itunes with the ones from the backup I made before formating. Thought it would be this simple, but iTunes just starts upp with an empty library part from some songs on my desktop. Import playlist won't work either – noting happens.
Thank you in forehand for any helpful answer.

Oh , sorry about the confusion.
The actual audio files are in a directory I created myself on the Media drive long ago. But, according to the clone of the old system that I made as a backup before formatting, iTunes still keeps its index files in Systemdrive/Users/Me/Music/iTunes, regardless of the actual location of the songs. So the songs are exactly where they always been on an untouched drive. Therefore I believed that if I copied the old xml and itl files to User/Music/iTunes on the new system drive, iTunes would use these on startup, and present the library exactly as it was on the "old" system.
I hope this was a bit clearer. Thank you for your help.

  • Converting from MP3 to AAC not working

When I try to convert any of my songs in iTunes I get an error message saying: "An unknown error occurred (0x77686174)." This only happens when trying to convert to AAC. • Converting MP3 to AAC in iTunes 8.0.1

I heard about how Walmart is offering MP3 tracks for 94 cents through their MP3 downloading site that is now compatible with Mac OS X, Safari, iPod, and iTunes. The MP3 sites has no restrictions for backups, playlists, computers, etc.
So I'm wondering, how do you convert an MP3 file into AAC file?
    Sincerely,
    Stu "the1macnerd" Carpenter
P.S. MP3 is okay (MPEG-3 Audio layer 1) but AAC (MPEG-4) is a lot better and sounds better in both 128 kbps and 256 kbps, even though 256 kbps takes up twice the space with no DRM, iTunes Plus. However, buying from iTunes Store is a lot better cause Walmart only has 3 million tracks available compared to iTunes' 8.5 million tracks. The iTunes Store is also worth it for people who don't want to buy the edited versions of music because iTunes Store sells both versions, and Walmart is more selective in that they don't sell certain artists based on religious or moral objections, such as Marilyn Manson and other artists.

You won't get any benefit converting from MP3 to AAC, both are lossy compression formats and you could even end up with a file of lesser quality by converting from one lossy format to another. Converting to AAC won't add any more information to the MP3 file than is already there. However to convert any type of audio file in iTunes 8 you first have to change your import settings in iTunes>Preferences>General, choose the Import Settings button. Once you have chosen your setting (AAC for instance) highlight the track you want to convert and go to Advanced>Create AAC version.

  • ITunes playlist - Muvo NX (mp3 on

I use iTunes to organize my mp3 files. What's the easiest way to copy all the songs in an iTunes playlist to my Muvo?
Right now, I have to manually go find each file and copy it, which takes forever. Has anybody made a utility that will do that automatically?
Better yet, since I use my Muvo for the gym, I'd like it to do what the iPod Shuffle does: just fill itself up with a random selection of tracks from my "workout" playlist. (The playlist is too big to fit in 256MB.) Any ideas?

    Answered my own question:
In iTunes (4.6, Windows) open the playlist. Then just drag & drop the songs you want to the Muvo. Not quite automatic, but sure beats finding each file one at a time.

  • Can I use iTunes Match on an ATV without a TV attached?

I've got an Apple TV2 that I use for music-only playback, attached to my hifi (using Toslink output, with nothing connected to the HDMI output). It works well with airplay and home sharing, but I'd like to use iTunes Match (airplay from an ios device seems susceptible to glitches, and the Mac with the iTunes library on it is normally suspended if I'm not working).
However, I can't see a way to control playback from iTunes Match without a screen attached. The Apple Remote app lets me play music using home sharing, but you can't really access the menu portion without a tv attached to the ATV2 to see what's happening.

    Hi,
i'm just following this thread and have the same problem as the first poster.
I would love to go to my IPAD with ICloud match enabled and listen to music, but on a proper AV-Receiver system without having a cable attached to the IPAD  and WITHOUT turning the TV on and WITHOUT running my laptop all the time.
If i understood this correctly, there are 2 options:
1.) buy the Airport Express and connect it the to the AV-Receiver and use Airplay.
2.) buy the new Apple TV 2 and enable/sync it with ITunes Match.
As far as i understood the main difference is, that on option 1 with Airport Express, the music is still downloaded to my IPAD (16 GB) and then using Airplay to stream it via the Airport Express to my AV-receiver. .  So i have to cleanup space after listening to music, otherwise i might run out of space some day....
Also there is another drawback of this method, the battery consumption, because the IPAD streams all the time while listening to music.
Using Itunes Match on Apple TV 2 doesn't download the songs to the ATV 2 , but streams it, because it has no HD capacities..The IPAD is working as a Remote using the latest "Apple Remote App".
This would not consume any battery on the IPAD, since the music process is running on the ATV 2.
As far as i can see, it is possible with the latest firmware of ATV2 and latest IOS enabled.
However, i din't manage to find a statement of how the remote App looks like. All the youtube videos i found show the IPAD/Iphone,/IPOD actually remote controlling the ATV2 software on the TV screen.
Open the Remote app on your device (in this case iPhone). Select the Apple TV you want to use iTunes Match with. You'll see a number of icons in the bottom of the screen. The music related ones (Playlists, Genres, Artists, Albums etc) show your iTunes Match library. If you start playing one of these, it will be streamed from iTunes to your Apple TV. No need for a computer with iTunes to be on.
When i open the Remote App on my IPAD i only get a selection of "enable home sharing" or "add media library". I can't find the Apple TV icon or any icons in the bottom of the screen. Only these 2.
I guess, this is just because i don't have an ATV 2 yet.
Does the Remote App show a screen like my music library on my IPAD ? With all the nice album art etc. ?
If not, i would rather go with option 1 with all the drawbacks of space, battery, etc...
Please reply, if any of you has made any experience with it.
Thanks for beeing patient, but i need to know which streaming device i should by.

  • ITunes conversion of Apple Lossless to AAC not working

    Hello:
I have all my CD's ripped to Apple Lossless. I then use iTunes to convert to 192 kbs AAC for use on my iPod. When I do this, though, the size is barely changed. Instead of taking a 23 MB lossless file down to 1 MB, it rips to about 20 MB. Has anyone else seen this? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks.

Even if it is working correctly, it does not shrink it by that much. AAC at 192 with constant bit rate uses about 1.5 MB per minute of music, or 6 MB for a 4 minute song. If you use VBR, it will be higher.
As Kay suggests, make sure that your import settings are correct. Also, note that conversion creates a new file and leaves the original in place, so make sure you are looking at the new file. Its Date Added will be the date of conversion, and its "Kind" will be AAC.
