Using Itunes Match with Apple TV 2 - Problems

I've subscribed to Itunes Match, and want to use it on my Apple TV 2.
When I select the 'Music' tab it shows me a screen saying that it's preparing my itunes library.
It seems to be stuck on this screen.
I've forced sleep, and it still shows this screen.
Am I being impatient? (Bear in mind, yesterday it showed me my itunes library in Icloud but wouldn't let me play anything).

Update - fixed this with a full restore. Working perfectly.

i did the add a computer function and it says that this computer is already associated with an apple id...if you use itunes match with your apple id etc for 90 days...please explain.  is this going to screw my wifes account up?

If you both have seperate iTunes Store accounts then basically, yes, it is going "screw up" your wife's account.
iTunes Match is designed as a single-user service which is associated with one and only one iTunes Store account ID. If you have subscribed on your account and want to activate the service on another computer that is already signed in with an account the present account must be signed out and then iTunes signed into your account. This means the other computer will have complete access to your account and will only be able to make purchases on your account. iTM is not designed to be signed in and out at will. If she has apps purchased with her iTunes Store account they will not be able to be updated.

Not really, no. I suppose in theory, but there is no way to manage the library, or retrieve the match contents for back up or other purposes.

  • HT2204 What is the best way to use iTunes Match with two Apple ID's that have purchased content?

    Hello.
In my early years of using iOS devices i have unwittingly made the mistake of creating a second Apple ID for my second device.  So now i have two Apple ID's with purchased content associated with them.
I have turned on iTunes Match with the account that has the bulk of my music linked to it.  But my second account has maybe 150-200 songs (and lots of apps) that i really like and don't want to loose.  Activating iTunes Match for the main account wiped these 150-200 songs off my iOS devices and replace them.  Is it possible to have content from both my apple id's on my devices at the same time?  Is it possible to combine the content from both of my accounts?

I'll try to help a bit.
ITunes match space is different to icloud space. With iTunes match you get storage for 25,000 non iTunes purchased tracks and other than a limit for individual file size, there is no memory limit.
You can turn match on individuallyon each device (I have it turned off on my iPod but turned on on my iPad and iPhone). When you turn it on then you get access to all the tracks, and in my experience any playlists I create have transferred over very well. I understand that some people have had trouble with playlists though.
I'm not quite clear with exactly what you mean regarding cleaning up your library, but be careful about using Match for this. There is no guarantee that matched songs will be exactly the same version as your own copy, due to some mismatches, so you could find some problems there. Personall, I am cleaning up my library before matching, but I am rather particular about keeping my library the way I want it. If you aren't as fussed then match could be the answer.
    Hope that helped.

  • What's the best way to use iTunes match with 4 iPhones and an ipad2

Currently have iPhone 4 (2), iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G (used as touch-no sim), and iPad 2.  We use one apple id to purchase with. We use a windows 7 pc and iTunes 10.5.....latest ver.  My questions are  kinda multi faceted, but I'm thinking iTunes match can help.  Ok....
Is iTunes match cloud space the same as iCloud space?
I have ~15000 mp3's.  I'd like to use iTunes match to "clean up" my library.  So, once I get my matched tunes up there will all my devices see that library?
What about playlists?  Do they just stay the same and locally reside on iDevices?
I don't have a Mac yet, well I don't have a new one.  I currently have a iBook g4 1.0 ghz with 1.25mb ram and osx 10.5 on it.  I would like to move all my music to a 1tb nas drive that I have.....iTunes does see it.  Then do all my iTuning from that machine for the next couple of months until I save more money and by an iMac.
However, it seems as though this ITunes might be able to this better.......
I'm terribly confused...I have 10+ years in IT, albeit mostly all PC.  That being said, I am ready to switch, I just feel like I'm so deep into a mess it seems impossible to do any of this cleanly.
    Thank you,

  • Accidentally bought iTunes Match with Apple ID instead of iCloud/MobileMe e-mail.

I bought iTunes match with my Apple ID instead of my mobileme/iCloud account and now my iPhone 3GS won't let me use the itunes match because it says I need to have an iCloud account to use it, which I do, but it's not connected to my iTunes Match, my apple ID is.
My general question is why can you buy iTunes Match with an apple ID if you can't even use it on iDevices?
Is there any way for me to fix this problem?
Or did I just waste 25 dollars on something I will never be able to use on my iPhone?

You did it right. Your iCloud account is not necessarily the same thing as your iTunes Account ID. Since you were able to successfully enable iTunes Match you used your iTunes account ID, which is the properly ID to use. To enable iTunes Match on your iPhone log into the iTunes Store using the same iTunes Store ID you used to enable iTM in the first place. Go to Settings > Store and enter the correct ID.

  • Use iTunes match with iCloud

(I don't want to but) need to get iTunes Match so I can keep songs that have not been purchased on iTunes. Can i still use iTunes Match if my iCloud storage is only the basic one and my iTunes library is greater then my storage plan?  Or do i have to upgrade and pay more money...

    Hey Missg789,
Thanks for your question about whether songs in iTunes Match count against your iCloud storage capacity limit. The following article describes what counts against that limit. iTunes Match songs are not part of it -

  • Using iTunes Match with an external hard drive

    Hello.
Over the years, my iTunes library has got rather large. Now, I'm about to buy a new MacBook Pro with a smaller SSD than my current hard drive, so in order to make best use of the space, I'm going to move my iTunes library to an external drive.
The plan is to have this drive connected to my home braodband router, and available wirelssly on ymhome network. That means whenever I'm at home, my library will be available to me, and I can sync whatever I like to my iOS devices etc.
When I'm on the move, I'd like to have access to my music, so I have subscribed to iTunes Match which is working well. My iPhone and iPad stream my music no problem.
My question is about how this will work on my new computer. The ideal situation for me would be that when I am at home with my external drive accessible via my home network, that I can play my media content locally within iTunes. When the drive is not connected (because it is off, or I am away from home) will the computer realise the music library is unavailable, and allow me to stream via iTunes Match?
Will this setup confuse the use of iTunes Match on my computer when I'm away from home?
Any advice on how to best set this up would be appreciated!

    Hi,
You will need two itunes libraries, one giving you access to your external drive and the other to allow you to stream your music.
When you get your new Macbook you can create an new blank library which will let you access your music in the cloud - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589.
You would use same procedure to reconnect to your main liabrary on the external drive.

  • Using iTunes match with two different ID's

I have 1 iMac and need to have two users establish their own iTunes match enviornment.  The iMac has 2 seperate G-raid external drives with each drive having an operating system with a different computer name.  When I use the computer, I boot from g-raid-1.  When my wife uses the computer, she uses g-raid-2.  I was able to setup itunes match on each drive using our sperate ID's.  my wifes config, worked for about an hour.  Mine works fine.  I'm suspecting a mac address capture is preventing what should be a perfectly legit and legal implimentation of apples products from working in a normal way.  It does not make sense to me that I have to go out a buy another iMac, just so that each iTunes match environment will have it's own mac address.  I know i can run a terminal command and change the mac address, or use one dirve via airport and the other via ethernet wire, but perhaps there's a basic issue at play here that has nothing to do with the seperate drive images and seperate user accounts.  any thoughts?  thanks

iTunes Match is associated with one, and only one, iTunes Store Apple ID and country-specific store. The service cannot be shared between Apple IDs.

If we sign up for iTunes with the one account with the majority of the songs, is Home Sharing no longer available to the other two accounts?
Of course it is. iTunes Match has no affect on Home Sharing.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    A.  What happens to the songs on the other two libraries?  Can we never use them?
It is possible to consolidate the tracks from the other iTunes libraries into one and use that for iTunes Match. Make sure the one computer that hosts the library is authorized to play any protected content.

    C.  If we purchase songs/albums while in iTunes Match, and then decide not to use Match in the future, do we lose all our music?
Of course not. Any purchases go to the purchase history for the Apple ID that bought them and as long as the tracks are downloaded and backedup you'll have them as long as you maintain them. Keep in mind that iTunes Match is a service; you don't do anything "in" iTunes Match. It simply "is" in the background.

Yes, parental controls should continue to work as they have. Although I do not use them, perhaps someone else with experience will weigh in.

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • How do i use itunes server with itunes match?

I am using itunes server on my synology NAS. On my desktop i've always used itunes with match. How can I combine the two? In other words, how can i use itunes match with itunes server?
    thanx

I don't know if you've already solved it yourself, but I had this problem too. Try signing out of iTunes Store under 'Settings', then signing back in with JUST your iTunes user name, with no '.mac' or '.me' suffix. If, for example, your usual sign-in method is '[email protected]' try using 'joebloggs'.
    Worked for me.

  • How do i keep my apple lossless files when I use iTunes match?

When I started using iTunes Match, my Apple Lossless and aiff lossless files were converted to lower quality 256 files in iTunes on my mac.  How do I stop this from happening?  I want to keep the Lossless files as they are.

    Sorry ......  but .....
Would it make a difference when I used iMatch ....  I started the service the day it was made available.  Was it an original issue and has since been corrected?
-iTunes and the music files were on my iMac internal Hard Drive.  Only 1 iTunes Library.
-No alternate iTunes libraries were created ergo match not turned on to an alterante.
-The original files were added to the iTunes Library from an external hard drive ... which were copied to my internal hard drive by iTunes.  (Advanced tab feature)  The external backup drive (4TB Seagate Mac Drive) is only connected when I use it to backup physical files.  I do not use a backup program.  Everything is copied its own folder.  Most files were ripped from my cd's i.e. to the external Drive using XLD.  Not one pirated file. a few HD albums purchased from HD Tracks.
-I even tried re-adding some of the Original FLAC files to iTunes again.  They were physical in my iTunes on the internal hard drive.  They were also replaced.
The fact is .... The Original Files were altered.  They had not been deleted and replaced, they were altered. They were the original files on my internal hard drive.  Only 1 copy of iTunes is on the computer.

  • Can I use iTunes Match on an ATV without a TV attached?

I've got an Apple TV2 that I use for music-only playback, attached to my hifi (using Toslink output, with nothing connected to the HDMI output). It works well with airplay and home sharing, but I'd like to use iTunes Match (airplay from an ios device seems susceptible to glitches, and the Mac with the iTunes library on it is normally suspended if I'm not working).
However, I can't see a way to control playback from iTunes Match without a screen attached. The Apple Remote app lets me play music using home sharing, but you can't really access the menu portion without a tv attached to the ATV2 to see what's happening.

    Hi,
i'm just following this thread and have the same problem as the first poster.
I would love to go to my IPAD with ICloud match enabled and listen to music, but on a proper AV-Receiver system without having a cable attached to the IPAD  and WITHOUT turning the TV on and WITHOUT running my laptop all the time.
If i understood this correctly, there are 2 options:
1.) buy the Airport Express and connect it the to the AV-Receiver and use Airplay.
2.) buy the new Apple TV 2 and enable/sync it with ITunes Match.
As far as i understood the main difference is, that on option 1 with Airport Express, the music is still downloaded to my IPAD (16 GB) and then using Airplay to stream it via the Airport Express to my AV-receiver. .  So i have to cleanup space after listening to music, otherwise i might run out of space some day....
Also there is another drawback of this method, the battery consumption, because the IPAD streams all the time while listening to music.
Using Itunes Match on Apple TV 2 doesn't download the songs to the ATV 2 , but streams it, because it has no HD capacities..The IPAD is working as a Remote using the latest "Apple Remote App".
This would not consume any battery on the IPAD, since the music process is running on the ATV 2.
As far as i can see, it is possible with the latest firmware of ATV2 and latest IOS enabled.
However, i din't manage to find a statement of how the remote App looks like. All the youtube videos i found show the IPAD/Iphone,/IPOD actually remote controlling the ATV2 software on the TV screen.
Open the Remote app on your device (in this case iPhone). Select the Apple TV you want to use iTunes Match with. You'll see a number of icons in the bottom of the screen. The music related ones (Playlists, Genres, Artists, Albums etc) show your iTunes Match library. If you start playing one of these, it will be streamed from iTunes to your Apple TV. No need for a computer with iTunes to be on.
When i open the Remote App on my IPAD i only get a selection of "enable home sharing" or "add media library". I can't find the Apple TV icon or any icons in the bottom of the screen. Only these 2.
I guess, this is just because i don't have an ATV 2 yet.
Does the Remote App show a screen like my music library on my IPAD ? With all the nice album art etc. ?
If not, i would rather go with option 1 with all the drawbacks of space, battery, etc...
Please reply, if any of you has made any experience with it.
Thanks for beeing patient, but i need to know which streaming device i should by.
