Using iTunes movies in iMovie

For a school project, I have to make a movie trailer for a book (specifically Ian Fleming's You Only Live Twice). What are the legal grounds as far as stripping a purchased previous James Bond movie of DRM and using clips in the trailer, providing I am just presenting it to my class, and not distributing it or anything.

Jack,
Stripping DRM is illegal under any conditions.
The legal terms for iTunes Store purchases can be found in the Terms and Conditions.
In the USA, the legal terms regarding the use of copyrighted information are slightly different in eduactional settings than they are for the general public.  This is a result of the TEACH Act (Technology, Education and Copyright Harmonization Act), which was passed by Congress in 2002. Many schools have posted the TEACH rules online; for example see this.

I recently downloaded iMovie on my iPhone 5 and it is telling me to connect to wifi or use itunes to download iMovie well I have done both and it is still not working can someone please help me?

    Hi troy157,
I'm sorry you are having issues with the iMovie app you purchased for your iPhone5.
The first thing I would suggest is to log out of your iTunes Account on your iPhone, turn the iPhone off and then on again, and see if app finishes downloading/updating.
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Tap on your Apple ID account > Tap Sign Out
If the issues persists, the article below will give you a few more troubleshooting steps:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
Try the following steps to resolve your issue, testing the app after each step.
    1. Update your device software
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
    2. Check for app updates
Ensure that your apps are up to date:
Open the App Store and tap Updates. If updates are available, tap Update All.
When prompted, enter your iTunes Store account information. App Store will then download and install the application updates.
Note: Some applications may require a Wi-Fi connection to update.3. Install another app from the App Store
    4. Restart the application
If the issue affects only a single app, try closing just that app:
Press the Home button to return to the Home screen.
Double-tap the Home button to display recent apps.
Tap and hold the affected app until the red minus appears.
Tap the red minus to quit the app.
Press the Home button, then restart the app.
    5. Restart your device
Hold the Sleep/Wake button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.6. Reinstall the affected application
Remove the application from your device and reinstall it.
Touch and hold any application icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the application you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the application and all of its data from your device.
    Press the Home button.
    Go to the App Store.
Search for the application and then download it again.
Note: If it is a paid app, ensure you are using the iTunes account you purchased the app with originally. If it is not, you will be charged for the app again. For more information regarding downloading previously purchased items, see this article.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Import iTunes movie into iMovie or Motion

I am a teacher and I wanted to show the movie Hocus Pocus to the kids at my elemtary school. But the school doesn't allow movies with ANY language. I would like to be able to import this movie into iMovie '11 or Motion 5 and block out the cuss words. This is a protected MPEG 4 video, so, none of these programs will let me do this! Any suggestions? (Please don't recomend any video convertors unless they're free, don't have a time limit, and will work with protected MPEG's) THANKS!

You cannot edit the movies and you cannot legally remove the DRM.
You can't show movies in school unless it is part of the curriculum (the movie actually pertains to the studies). Simply for entertainment is not permissible (without copright owners permission).

  • Apple TV 3rd Gen - Won't use iTunes Movie Start Time

I've went into the info options under a movie in my iTunes library, and changed the start time. But when playing back on my Apple TV from the beginning, it does not start at that time? Is this functionality not transferred to the Apple TV? I have a 3rd gen, and I would like to know a way I can either chop the beginning to this film off without re-encoding, or if there is a way my Apple TV will recognize my start position set up for specific iTunes movies..?

AFAIK? is that iTunes conversion? I tried earlier to create an Apple TV format video from the video source in iTunes and had a set in point, it did not clip the beginning...
I do know that if you do this same process with audio it will clip the beginning, I do this for ringtones... If anyone finds a solution besides having to re-export, would be great!
I love my Apple TV I just wish it all worked more fluidly, has some glitches here and there and these things should go both ways..

  • How to use iphoto movies in imovie?

I called apple customer care but they were unfortunately not helpful.
I have imported pictures and videos into iphoto and I would like to use the videos there under imovie.
Some videos (both taken on iPhone and a digital camera) appear in the imovie "iPhoto" section. but some just simply dont appear there.
When I called Apple Care, I was told that only Iphone movies were compatible through iphoto and imovie, but I can see videos i took on a camera in imovie under iphoto.... but only some...
On the apple website, it says that you should be able to access videos on iphoto from imovie.
I have looked up other support forums etc.. but I dont seem to find the right solution for me.
I did try to uninstall both iphoto and imovie, and re-install, but that made no change.
I imported videos into imovie separately, but I assume that takes up twice the space on the SSD. Since its only 256... i would rather avoid any extras...
If anyoneone knows a fix around this issue, please help! Thanx.
Also, is there a way to migrate the whole imovie library onto an external drive as it wil take up a lot of space?

    Hello All,
I found out what happened. For some unknown reason, when I imported the movie clips into imovie they were copied within the iphoto folders. Before the import they were just in the Originals folder. After the import they were located in both the Data and Originals folder in the iphoto path. I was speaking to an Apple Care rep when we found them. At first he was sure that imovie would not copy thm and asked me why I thought that my disk space had been reduced by 8GB. I knew because I watched my free space dwindle during the two hour import and noted the space available before and after the import. He said that this was very odd and imovie should not have not have copied the files and he will report it to Apple. Thanks,

  • Cannot use share movie in iMovie menu

Since I've installed OS X Maverick, I cannot share Movies to iDVD.  Once I put the mouse over the share file it shows nothing.

if you can get it open by any method, Save As... to another project.

  • I just created a movie in iMovie 10.0.5 and shared it to iTunes but I cannot copy to my iPod touch

I just created a movie in iMovie 10.0.5 and shared it to iTunes but I cannot copy to my iPod touch.  It says the movie was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod. My iPod was bought in 2009 and has the latest iOS 4.2.1.  I also tried sharing in all the different resolutions but none of them worked.
    What should I do?

iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
iOS: Unable to import photos to computer
You have a 2G iPod and the can play/sync only SD videos.
If necessary use a converter app to convert to compatible format. I use the free HandBrake

  • Can I use iTunes in iMovie?

Can I use songs I have purchased at the iTunes Store in my iMovie projects? This would be strictly for home use, not for any commercial purpose.
Would I have to do a file conversion?

    Hi
    A. How can anyone find out and tell ?
    B. Never ever .mp3 or other alient formats (I use AudaCity to convert to .aiff - free from Internet)
    C. I use iTune audio (done by me e.g. readings) - but the deep insight of Apple put's copy-protection and no: of copies  limitation on this too - even if I not asked for it - so
    D. In all my movie projects I only use .aiff audio 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CDs (still .aiff) but at 44.1kHz
    E. In iTune I collect needed audio into a New Playlist - Burn this as an .aiff Audio-CD - Use the files on this in my movie projects. I ALSO - declare exactly what audio I use in the final text of my movie and on the DVD cover if I make one. So that if it goes commercial (not one chance on a Million) they responsible for this can pay up to right inst.
And Please respect Copyright laws - people are trying to live on the Music they make - And You have not payed for the right to spread it - via iTunes - You need to get into contact with the owners/composers.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Im trying to bring a movie from imovie to a pc using a flash drive, but the movie file (.mov) will not play on a pc

Im trying to bring a movie from imovie to a pc using a flash drive, but the movie file (.mov) will not play on a pc. help!

I would like to offer you some additional hair, but I've pulled mine out as well.  I have created a slideshow of my daughter's new house (a very nice place indeed) as a house-warming gift, took all the pix myself with a throw-away camera made into CD's, imported all of the photos, cropped and enhanced with Iaza online free photo editor, re-saved the new ones to a folder, imported the selected ones into iPhoto, had the best thematic photo printed in 8x10 format, bought the black DVD's, made the MPEG-4 movie as well as the suggested exportable to iPhone, created a folder with the slides, crafted a nice playlist in iTunes, merged it all in iPhoto, but cannot successfuly export it into iDVD. The technical documentation and writing for some of this stuff is sloppy and sometimes unintelligible. The instructional videos are incomplete. The One-on-One fellow was most helpful the other day and said Apple doesn't really have or support an functional DVD creation tool and suggested I choose one or another "app" at the "app store", but the reviews for the two major ones are shallow in depth and I haven't yet sprunf for the $20-$40 download so I can re-experience the difficult learning curve. The Macintoshs I once used were incredibly intuitive; the iMac requires some study. The slideshow I have is imperfect becauae it keeps reverting to custom slide-specific choices I have decided (several times) that I do not want, but it keeps slipping back into "Ken Burns" mode and some of the photos don't work in that mode because of their format. But I will settle for less-than-perfect if I can figure out the best way to export the MPEG-4 I have created into a Maxell DVD-R some time before my daughter's toddlers aged 4 and 2 get into kindergarten.

  • I feel I must move beyond iMovie, what program should I use ?

I have been happily using iMovie and iDVD from versions 1 through 6.  iMovie 08 was so bad that Apple made iMovie 06 available as a free download for buyers of iMovie 08. The newer iMovies were better, but they seemed “dumbed down” (even for me).  Now, I am shocked and horrified to learn that the latest iMovie does not even set chapter markers!
So, I have continued to use iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 (they seem to work fine under OS 10.9.4).   iMovie 06 is now 8 years old!  I feel compelled to move forward. A lot of my work is DV.    In the past, most of my source material came out of S-Video.   I used a Canopus ADVC300 analog-to-digital converter that gave good results.   Going forward, I will have more video utilizing Component Video, or HDMI.
I am looking into 2 possibilities,  Adobe Premiere elements 12, or.........Final Cut Pro X.
The final result of my work is almost always a DVD.   It is hard for me to move from iMovie and iDVD.  I never read the manuals for either program, yet,  I was able to produce DVDs with nice menus and overall quality close to Hollywood.
It looks like Final Cut Pro X 'can' make a DVD directly without other software.  However, from what I have seen on YouTube the result is primitive compared to what iDVD was doing 10 years ago.
Adobe Premiere elements 12 can make nice DVDs and Blu-ray's directly.  I have no problem with using a separate program to make DVDs but I haven't got a clue how to do that with Final Cut Pro X.   I suppose I can still use iDVD, but now I'm back to using discontinued software.
I do not need any of the high-powered affects capability that Final Cut Pro X  possesses.  My “movie-making” is mostly confined to simple editing (the old iMovie 06 did all I needed).
Frankly, one motivation for choosing Final Cut Pro X, is the excellent, compassionate and understanding support that the kind people on this very forum provide.  So, what program should I use?

to turn perspective for a second by 180°:
Why do you want to switch to a new editor anyhow?
    • iM-a never did discs - that was iDVDs job = no big change in your workflow
    • iDVD is still working, and aside obsolete, complex and $$$$ DVDSP (part of obsolete FC/p) or Encore (part of Adobes CC rent package) your only option left to create disks on MacOS is indeed iDVD (...ok, there's Toast and Burn and some weird 'shareware'-stuff...)..
    • iMovie-b supports the new HDef formats (AVCHD) - you mentioned converters and DVDs = no HDef in use, in your habitat, correct?
    • if you don't need FCPX' bling-bling (I can't imagine that ) - why not using FCPX-lite = iMovie? 15$ ...
    • chapters could be done in iDVD - just to mention that ............
    • AP and FCPX are following very different concepts in usage - my personal preference is 200% on FCPX, … I was one of the loudest nay-sayers, when iM08 araised, meanwhile, FCPX is my dream!! AP (tested it) is way too complex, crowded, 'optionalized' and did I mention 'complex' for me. A bit like Windows vs. MacOS: 'everything goes' (incl. getting lost) vs. 'convenience' (incl. restrictions) ... After 2y of practice, I'm editing my weekly hobby-projects with 6-cam-Multicam, incl. tons of  custom graphics, slow-mow, effects (soccer games) in less than 2h ... awesome!
    summary:
    • why switching?
    • use iMovie10 + iDVD
    • Premiere (or Premiere Elements!) and FCPX are both avail as fee trial ... test  it - but you need iDVD anyhow
    • 'disks'  is a dwindling niché, for years!- consider to switch to 'other' distribution options
... what are 'chapters' anyhow??... (kid din'!)

  • As of the Yosemite upgrade, I can't watch movies or tv shows using iTunes or Safari.

As of Yosemite upgrade, I can't watch any movies or tv shows using iTunes or Safari.  I have not previously had this problem before, and I have not changed anything with the monitor.  Here is what I get...  (This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP)  However, I can still watch Netflix using Firefox and Google Chrome browsers, but not with Safari.   (Using a Mini Mac with an LG Monitor Display)  Using HDMI to DVI Apple adapter.  I also tried a straight HDMI cable connection, which made no difference. My Apple TV plays just fine on this monitor.  LG Monitor Model #DM2350D

Never mind i guess. The iTunes parental controls changed randomly to restricted certain ratings even though i've never touched those in my life. fix your **** apple.

  • How do I move my iPhone back ups to a new computer which is already using iTunes for a different device?

I have backed up my children's iDevices to my work computer. Now that my wife has a new computer, she wants to be able to manage their devices from home. Of course, she is already using her computer to manage her iPhone.
Is there a way to move my iTunes library files to my wife's computer so that it will recognize both her iPhone as well as our children's iDevides, without losing any data, playlists, etc.?
    TIA

No. You cannot join the two libraries. She can make a copy of your iTunes library on her computer, then switch libraries when opening iTunes if she needs to handle the other devices. Note that everything you have downloaded for your kids on your computer are connected to your Apple ID. Your wife cannot transfer anything to her Apple ID.
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

  • How can i use Ipad's ITunes movies with Samsung 52 inch LED HDTV LN52B750U1F

Hi there and happy holidays!  I have a LN52B750U1F 52 inch TV and for the first time ever want to play iTunes movies from my iPad on the TV.  I tried reading the manual but it is all gibberish to me - I am a tech idiot.  I plugged the USB into both of the USB ports on the TV from the iPad and the TV recognized the iPad and the pictures, but had No Contect for movies / video.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks!

You can not connect to the USB port on the TV. You need to purchase an AV cable or use a WiFi network and Apple TV to stream the content using AirPlay.
    Here's the HDMI adapter http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD098ZM/A/apple-digital-av-adapter?fnode=3a
Or the composite cable for an alternative conection http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748ZM/A/apple-composite-av-cable?fnode=3a

  • Can I move my iTunes music to a device with a different Apple ID using iTunes library on desktop?

I'm going to be getting a new iPhone real soon and I'm going to create a new Apple ID. The one that I'm currently using now will be handed over to another with respected agreements. I was just wondering if I could still move the music purchases with this ID to my phone that will have a different one using iTunes library on desktop.
    Possible?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. No "yeah, I have this problem too" posts because that is completely unhelpful, thank you.

You can move the song files into a different iTunes library and sync them to a new device, but they will remain associated with the original Apple ID.
