Using iTunes on Mac

Hi this will be my first Mac. I really like the 13" Retina MacBook Pro but the low storage space available on the base model is somewhat irritating. With regards to my music library, which is always growing, I am worried that my music will take up alot of space on my Mac. Let's say I don't want to have my music saved on my computer's hard drive and only want to play the music on the computer when my iPhone is plugged in. Is that possible? I know an external hard drive is always an option, but is there a way to be able to play the music on my Mac when my iPhone is plugged in without having the music sync to my computer's internal hard drive?

Unfortunately, you can't listen to songs from the iPhone. If you purchased all your songs in the iTunes Store, iTunes 11 has got a feature that allows you to listen to all your songs without having them on your Mac, but it requires to have the Mac connected to the Internet.
Another thing you can do is to store your music on an external disk

Where can I find a detailed tutorial on how to use iTunes for Mac?

I need to get a really good tutorial on iTunes for Mac 12.0.1.26.
I am really hung up on being able to download artwork for 2 Albums that I have recently purchased. I have been using Macs since the 128K Classic. However I never got into using iTunes until just now with version 12.0.1.
Any help appreciated.

After using iTunes my Mac doesn't shut down!

My MacBookPro doesn't shut down after using iTunes. I have try anything and the apple support can't also help me.
I can only stop my Mac with the power button. If I don't use iTunes I have no problems to shut down the Mac.
Have anybody a similar problem and can help me? Thanks

Wma conversion to use iTunes for Mac

Does anyone know of freeware I can download to comletely convert my wma music files to mp3 so that I can use it in iTunes for mac? ( Switched from PC to mac, now i'm just struggling with my wma files i transferred from my PC - tried the new Windows Media Player 11 on my PC, but it only converts if the Device it syncs with requires it, you cannot set it to convert all files to mp3...) So far i'm really really impressed with the Mac, but the fact that i have to now convert all my music files that are still wma to mp3 to use in iTunes is QUITE annoying...

Macs don't have the WMA codec used to read these files.
EasyWMA is only $10.
Or just use your Windows machine.
Open iTunes, set your iTunes prefs -> Advanced -> Importing to what you want and drag your WMA files to iTunes.
It will convert them (using the WMA codec in Windows) and put them in the iTunes folder.
Copy these files to the new computer and Add to iTunes.

Using iTunes on Mac and Bootcamp/Vista

Hello out there,
I use Paragon NTFS for MacOSX and plan to migrate the entire iTunes library to the ntfs partition so I can use iTunes on either platform without duplicating the entire library.
However, as I understand it, both iTunes installations have their own admin files, so adding new music on one platform doesn't mean it's listed and accessible on the other.
Does anybody know if it is possible to migrate the admin data, too, and if the win- and mac-iTunes use the same file format?

Using iTunes w/ Mac AND Windows via Dropbox

I'm doing my best to move my life to "the cloud" and the final missing piece is iTunes. I'm currently using iTunes on a Sony Vaio, storing all of my music and video on a 1TB external hard drive.
I recently got a MacBook Air and want to have access to at least my favorite music from anywhere via Dropbox. Can I copy my music (there's nowhere near enough room for the video) to my Dropbox account and then point the MacBook Air iTunes installation to my Dropbox account?
It seems that all of the library info is kept in a separate file, so I think this should work--but I would really appreciate it if the experts here can point out any problems, issues, or "gotchas" associated with this plan.
Of course I want to be able to enjoy my music anywhere, but I'm planning to make the MacBook Air primary at some point in the future so that I can sync my iPod Touch and my iPad to it.

From the discussion I can see on the Dropbox Forums, there are people using it for iTunes backup, but no success using it as a source for streaming music. Take a look at this thread, for example.
Somebody else here may know more, but also you may want to post a very specific question on the Dropbox Forum.

Using itunes with mac book pro and mac mini

I have had a Mac book pro with all my music on external hard drive, and running to my through my network of 1 apple TV, 2 airport expresses. Working great.
Now I have got an old Mac Mini and hooked up the external hard drive that has all my music on it and hook it up to my network. I want to use the Mac Mini as a Music Server. The music plays on the mac mini not the Apple TV or the airport expresses.
I think it's something small but any help whould be great.

Dreamweaver CS6 is not retina ready. Dreamweaver CS6 Cloud I believe was patched at 12.1 for this. However, I do not believe Adobe sees this as a patch but rather as a new feature thus if you are using Dreamweaver CS6 you will not get this release until Dreamweaver CS6.5 or CS7.

How do I manage my music that's on my iPhone using iTunes on MAC?

When I connect my iPhone onto iTunes, I can't delete or manage my music that's on my phone. It's not clickable (?)...
And when I autofill my music in my library onto my iPhone, the songs won't load fully on my phone and I can't delete them either.
Help?

Not exactly sure what you mean.
You can delete Songs directly from you phone by sliding your finger across it and tapping the red Delete button
Are you saying you don't have enough space on your phone for your whole library?
You can choose what music get synced by clicking on your phone > music tab > Selected Playlists, artists, albums, genres > then chose just what you want to sync

Transferring iTunes for Mac to iTunes for Windows

My son currently uses iTunes for Mac to store all his music he for his iPhone. His iTunes is on a PowerBook G4, running OS X 10.4.11, which he now finds can not be upgraded to Leopard or Snow Leopard which would give him the latest version of iTunes. He is now thinking of purchasing a PC laptop that will run the latest version of iTunes. BUT, all of his music is on his Mac PowerBook. Is there way to transfer his music on iTunes for Mac to iTunes for Windows?

HT3281 I downloaded an audio podcast on iPad2 using iTunes and can't find it

I've used iTunes on Mac, on PC on iPhone. I downloaded a single episode of an audio podcast over wifi on my new iPad2 using iTunes. progress bar finished but there is no obvious place to tap to play the file and in fact I can't find the file to play it. Podcast icon at the bottom of the home screen on iTunes just leads me to the main page of featured Podcasts. I can't find my way to my Library or this particular file that I just downloaded.
Can someone help an iPad newbie find a single audio podcast file that I just downloaded? Where did iTunes put it?? Not in music, not in podcasts not in audiobooks. It's all "featured" and "charts" and if I go to "Downloads" there is a single link to "ITunes Store Terms and Conditions" . ***.
This is so non-intuitive and honestly coloring my new iPad experience very poorly. Why Apple makes the layout and interface so different on devices is part of my problem but not my question. I listen to a lot of Podcasts and wanted it to be an easy to version of iTunes like I'm used to on my Mac and PC. Why is it so crazily different looking? So frustrating as I evaluate whether I keep this gaget.

That is exactly where you go to watch a video podcast. Since that thought struck you after I told you where the audio podcasts are - doesn't it seem to make sense to you? Audio in the Music app - Video content in the Videos app?
New users want to play their music and videos in iTunes on the iPad because that is where they play that content on their computers. That's a natural assumption and that is where the confusion starts. iTunes on the iPad is simply a link to the store - not the media player like it is on the computer.
After two years of using iDevices every day, I am used to the way that they work - but I tend to agree that knowing how iTunes, the Music App and the Videos app work - is not the most intuitive design for a lot of new Apple device users.
And to top it all off - The iPad keeps changing with every new iOS release. In the previous iOS - the Music App was the iPod app. When it changed to the Music App, it confused new users even more.
There is a free iPad user guide book available in the iBook Store that is a fairly comprehensive manual. It is certainly worth downloading. Honestly, I have picked up tons of knowledge on this support site, by fumbling and fooling with the device by myself, and by relying on one of my best friends - Google!

Export video from multiple iOS devices to a Mac without using iTunes

I am tasked with importing video files from multiple iPads to a single Mac to aggregate for editing.
The file sizes on each device are many gigs large. I don't want to use iMovie on the Mac or iOS.
I don't want to use iTunes (since there are many iPads not owned by me to import video from).

I recently sold my Mac Air to a friend, he wants to use iTunes Match, but it says he can't for another 40 days because it was attached to my account. How can I get that turned off so that he can use his account and turn on iTunes match.

I reecntly spold my mac book air,to a friend, when he tries to use itunes match it says the computer is registersed to another user and cannot be done for another 40+ days. How do i get that to turn off. I have unregistered it under my account.

You either have an incredibly complex computer setup or I think you are confusing terminology here. If you have iTunes set to share your library with others in your iTunes preferences then other computers in the area will see it as an item when they are running their iTunes and have it set to check for shared libraries. Your husband is probably seeing this when running iTunes on his computer. You can disable this sharing on your computer and/or he can set his not to pick up shared libraries.
By the way, an iTunes account is something you log into when you want to buy something from Apple. On your computer it is simply your iTunes collection or your iTunes application. So you need to turn off sharing in your iTunes application preferences.
Your husband is seeing "his" iTunes collection when running iTunes, but it is possible he doesn't have anything in it if it is a brand new computer.

Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...
