Using iTunes on new iMac

Yesterday I received my new iMac, which replace a 2009 model.  The transfer of data and reinstalling my apps went flawlessly until I tried to synch my iPhone.  Before I tried to synch I deauthorized the old iMac and authorized the new one and I backed up my iPhone.  When I connected my iPhone nothing happens.  iTunes recognizes my iPhone and the synch last about 2 seconds and the meessages pass so fast I cannot tell what is happening.  The only message that I was able to read stated that the iPhone was synched to another library and if I synch it will erase all old content.
Obviously, I must do something more than just authorize my new iMac but I cannot figure out what.  I copiedx the library content from my old Imac to the sam directory on the new one which I thought was all that was required.
Here I thought everything was going so well.  HELP!!!!

Open Advanced in iTunes preferences. Be sure to change the path to the new location on your computer.
I assume you have no other iTunes folder in the /Home/Music/ folder?
Be sure to also copy the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.itunes.plist file to the same Preferences folder on your new computer.
There is also the /Home/Library/iTunes/ folder that you copy to the new computer's /Home/Library/ folder.
The Home/Library/ folder is invisible. To change that do the following:
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
     chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN.

Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.

If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins.

You can use the same installer, if you kept it, and the same serial number, if you still have it, and the old serial number, if it was an upgrade.

  • Can't open iTunes on new iMac

After migrating all my documents from a ProMac to an iMac I can't open iTunes in new iMac.  "iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  When I select "Download iTunes" I get "No Updates available" and an unknown error (-42408)

Since it's brand new I'd call AppleCare and let them walk you through it. They will have you try things and you can give immediate feedback and they will take you to the next step. That would take us too long here. Apple's service is very good.

  • Multiple Issues with iTunes on New iMac

    Hello Apple Community,
I recently bought a 27" iMac with 3.1Ghz i5 processor running on Snow Leopard and finally set it up.  I have owned many Macs in the past and currently have been using a 5 year old 15" MacBook Pro on Snow Leopard that has been running flawlessly but I needed something with a bit more processing power.  When I first took my iMac out of the box I went ahead and used the Migration Assistant to move my applications and files over from my MacBook Pro but after multiple attempts I had to stop and simply move the music, document, and photo data on to a portable hard drive while I got the Migration Assistant to move the applications.  I simply moved the old iTunes music folder over to my new iMac and replaced the iTunes folder on my iMac.  The new iMac has already been authorized through my iTunes account and the music will play.  Now here are my current issues.
When I play a song on iTunes, there appears to be a random amount of fade-in and/or crossfade when I switch playing songs.  I have checked the playback preferences and crossfade is not checked.  Some songs the crossfade will take a second while sometimes it will be as much as 10 seconds of crossfade.  On my MacBook with the identical library and settings, it does not have these issues.
The other issue I have been experiencing is if iTunes has been open and my computer sits for a little while (usually after awaking from sleep or even listening to a few songs without touching the keyboard, the songs will stop playing on their own and when I press the play button, it begins to "play" the track but there is no sound coming from iTunes.  I have checked the volume slider in iTunes and it is still at max volume while all other applications still work and output sound.  iTunes will only work properly if I close it and re-open it.
The final issue is similar to the last one in that when I try and play previews in the iTunes Music store it will not play but when I hit the play button iTunes will then appear to be "playing" but no sound from either the store or any of my songs from the Library.
iTunes works perfectly fine on my MacBook Pro and it does have any of these issues.  Both Macs are currently running iTunes 10.4.1.  All songs in each library are checked and will play to a degree.
I have deleted iTunes and all corresponding library files, (basically anything with iTunes in the name) and tried to reinstall iTunes and used multiple methods to replace the music files including using Home Sharing, a portable Hard Drive, and dragging and dropping the music files from the shared folder and no matter what I try, I still cannot get iTunes on my iMac to work properly.  I have been searching around the support forums for others who might have had this issue but I cannot seem to find much.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had not tried that before, but from your suggestion, I went ahead and did it and it seems to have gotten rid of the crossfade issues I was experiencing but whenever I try and listen to a preview in the iTunes music store it still does not appear to be working.  Also, I was testing a number of tracks and it seems like there are a few tracks in particular that will make iTunes stop playing when I click on them and then if I attempt to play something else, iTunes says it is playing but no sound is coming from it.
What I have found that is interesting is the first time I ran the Disk Utility it repaired a HUGE number of misc. files.  After running it and still experiencing problems I tried to run it again but this time the files were not as numerous and were all within the /Library/CoreServices menu.  Each subsequent time I ran the Disk Utility and rebooted, I tried to run the Disk Utility again and the same files seem to still be having the same issues.  This is just an example of one of the files I have been having an issue with.
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/zh_TW.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib" , should be drwxr-xr-x , they are -rwxr-xr-x .
    Repaired "System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu/Contents/Resources/zh_TW.lproj/RemoteDesktopMenu.nib" .
One in particular gave me a Warning and said it could not be repaired.  I'm not sure if it is important to repair but I still seem to be having some issues here and there.  Here is the message from the Disk Utility regarding the file in question.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

  • IPhone not Working with iTunes on New iMac

I recently upgraded a family member's iMac from an early Intel iMac to a new i5 iMac. Both the old and the new were running 10.6.4 and had iTunes 9.2.1.
I used the simple transfer functionality when setting up the new iMac to transfer everything over from the old iMac
When I loaded up iTunes on the new iMac and connected the iPhone (3GS, iOS 4.0.2), nothing happened. I checked System Profiler and it was there.
After trying a couple times, restarting, etc, I followed the instructions here to entirely remove and reinstall iTunes and its files from the new iMac: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1224
(I did everything, including the "Additionally..." instructions at the bottom).
This did the trick - The iPhone was recognized by iTunes. However, the next time I restarted the iMac everything went back to the old (no iPhone recognition by iTunes).
Any advice on what I might be missing?

It seems I only need to reinstall iTunes, not delete everything first, to get iTunes to recognize the iPhone until restart.
What in the restart process could cause this to go away?

  • Importing purchased iTunes into new iMac home computer

My son had a lot of purchased iTunes songs and videos on his iTouch. We recently moved and are now using a new iMac. His purchases were through our iTunes account, and the iTunes library that he was syncing with was on a laptop that we no longer have. How can I get access to those purchased iTunes songs and videos so I can transfer them into my new iMac?

When I called and spoke to an Apple service technician he told me that there is one re-grant per account per lifetime.
Apple is usually pretty good about it but it's the exception and not the rule. The -> iTunes Store Terms of Service specifically states...
"10. Purchase or Rental of Apple Content
    a. Products Requirements. You acknowledge that use of Products may require the use of other hardware and software products (e.g., the ability to make copies of Products on physical media and render performance of Products on authorized digital player devices), and that such hardware and software is your responsibility. Products may only be downloaded once; after being downloaded, they cannot be replaced if lost for any reason. Once a Product is purchased or rented (as applicable) and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."
We would like to request this one-time "re-grant"
Then send an email to the link that Niel posted above but don't look for something about a one-time "re-grant".
Explain what happened and that you did not have your items backed up.
Then make sure you backup the items after you downlaod them.

  • Best wat to set up itunes to new imac from two EHDs.

My mac mini recently died, I had a clone of the internal on a EHD with iTunes data and another EHD with over 500GB of music.I would prefer to run iTunes music from an EHD. Can I just use Carbon Copy Clone  and copy over the EHD content with the iTunes data? If I were to copy over both external hard drives to the new imac, would it setup my iTunes, or do I have to tell it what to do. Also, does the name I give the imac affect my data from the previous mac mini?

You could clone but you could also simply drag the iTunes folder to the Music folder on the new internal.  Replace the existing, presumably empty, iTunes folder there and start iTunes.  Alternatively drag it to a different location and start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the new library location.
If you want to move media from one drive to another let iTunes do the copying, do NOT do it in Finder or it will break all the links.  Change the media preference in iTunes advanced preference and "consolidate" the content.  This will copy all media files in the library to the designated location.
Your new Mac name should have no effect.  However, do not rename your hard drives if you continue to store media on them or it will break links.

  • How do I use iTunes with new iPod

I have my own video iPod, and use iTunes without a problem.
However, I bought a refurbished iPod for a relative, and am now trying to download music onto this new iPod. When I go into my iTunes with the new iPod connected to my computer, I can't get the new iPod to show up on the task bar -- so I can't download music onto it.
Do I have to create a separate account for this new iPod, or somehow download iTunes again for this new iPod in order to get music onto it???
    Thanks.

Using a second iPod is normally just a question of connecting it to your computer choosing how you want to update it and using your existing iTunes. You don't need a separate Windows account unless two users want to use the one computer and maintain separate libraries. You don't need two instances of iTunes for separate accounts. Have you had look at either of these troubleshooting pages?

  • My iMac was stolen in a robbery - no files via iCloud (long story).  I have a new iMac which is set up and being used - how do I recover old iMac files from what looks like back-up files showing on my Time Capsule (also being used for this new iMac)?

My iMac was stolen - but I think there's a backup on my Time Capsule (which wasn't stolen). I have a new iMac which I've been using normally; I didn't use the 'Restore from...' option at the start because I thought the Time Capsule had nothing on it.  So how do I now recover files from the Time Machine?  I can see various back-ups on the Time Capsule, from various machines - laptops, etc. - but it's not letting me open any of them to see what they contain. Does anyone know how I access this information?

    Use migration assistant.
    See http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
Although this is only up to Mountain Lion it is still relevant to Mavericks.. only expect Mavericks to kick and buck a lot more.

  • USB Hub to use with my new iMac

Here is a quick question, looking for some opinions.
I just got my new iMac and I am switching from my Macbook Pro. since all the USB (and the other connections are all in the rear of the iMac, obviously makes it difficult to plug and unplug devices. Do may of you use a separate hub or some other solution?
Looking for some ideas to set it all up right. Thanks!
    Mark

You have tons of options, the only real question is if you need your hub to be powered or not.  (ie: plugging external HDs, etc.)  If not, it's up to you & your preference of functionality & style.
For my desktop for example, I use a long single USB extention cable which ends in a stand so the port is sticking up.  This makes plugging items in & out easy since it's an up & down motion, not forward & back.  Most of my perifs are already plugged in so I only need one.  For my laptop though, I have a smaller footprint item with x4 slots on it (unpowered).
I say go shopping & have fun.
